how can i buy lion software? do they still sell it

Lion can be purchased if you call Apple > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 If your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion, I recommend you to get it unless you have to use an application that requires OS X Lion. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
Make a backup before upgrading and check that your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • Bought new iMac, how do I get Lion on a second computer

So a week ago I bought a new iMac which came installed with Lion. Now I'd like to put it on my aluminum MacBook. Can I do that without buying Lion? When I sign into my account at the App store on the iMac, Lion is noted to be Installed, but if I sign in on the MacBook $29.99 shows up.

The Lion installation that came preinstalled with your new computer is tied to your new computer. You do not get to download the Lion installer and install it free on other computers with that license. You'll need to pay the thirty bucks.

  • I have an iMac running version OS 10.6.8.  I bought the desktop in               2009.  Short of buying a new iMac, how can I upgrade to Lion?

I have an iMac running OS 10.6.8.  I bought the iMac in 2009.  Short of buying a new iMac, is there any other way to upgrade to Lion?  Thanks.

I don't believe anything prevents you from upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion. See:
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • OS X 10.5.8 won't update to a newer version, how do I get Lion without having the App Store?

I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a), Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory. Why won't it update to a newer version with App Strore and how can I get it upgraded to Lion?

Apple - OS X Lion - Sign up to be notified when Lion is available.
Apple - OS X Lion - Get Lion in July. Only from the Mac App Store.    Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM. The Lion upgrade can be installed on all your authorized personal Macs.

  • How can I install lion without internet ?

I have Lion installed on an old Mac mini.  I have created a DVD from the downloaded installer, as a backup in case of hard drive failure.  But, if I disconnect the ethernet cable,  the install from the DVD hangs, waiting for an internet connection.
How can I bypass the internet requirement to get my system back running and get the OS re-installed ?

I tried this again.  I believe the first time I disconnected the ethernet cable AFTER the install had started.  It expected to be able to check for updated modules, and when it couldn't it hung.
The next time, I disconnected the ethernet cable -- and made sure Airport was off, too -- and then started the Install from DVD.  It ran through to completion without pausing for the internet.  Problem is sequence of disconnection, not in the install process.
    Thanks.

  • How can I download Lion without the app store?

My friend bought his Macbook pro summer 2009 so whatever operating system that it came with (10.5 lepord I believe) did not download the app store when it updated. Now he wants to put lion on his macbook pro. Is there a way to download it without the app store? If not, how can he get the app store?
    Any help would be great!

Yes, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard before upgrading to Lion. You can purchase Snow Lion from the online Apple Store, a brick-and-mortar Apple Store, or from Amazon.
Then you will have the App Store application and you can upgrade to Lion.

  • I have a ipad with all of my songs on it, my old computer recently shut down and now i want to download all of my songs on my ipad to my new itunes. how can i do this without erasing all of my music?

my computer recently shut down and all of my itunes was lost.  My ipad still has all of my songs on it. How can i download all of my music onto my new itunes. would i need a different acount?

    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • I have a mac book and I want to transfer my pics in iPhoto to my new iMac how do I do this without migration

Can someone please help me? I just purchased a new Imac and I need to transfer my iphot pics from my macbook to the Imac

All the Photos in your macbook are in iphoto Library. Navigate to PICTURES FOLDER then, right click "iPhoto Lib" then select SHOW Package Contents. your photos are in the MASTERS Folder.
Or you can copy the entire iphoto Library in the Pictures folder and place it in your new imac pictures folder.
you can use an external hard drive, SD Card or burn to CD.
Another option is to connect macbook to iMac and boot macbook in target disk mode so that you can access your laptop as an external drive.

  • How can I reload Lion without Snow Leopard?

    Hello,
My early 2008 macbook pro had a hard drive failure and I had to buy a new drive. I have a full system back-up on an external drive.
My problem is, I only have the OSX Leopard disk, and cannot find the Snow leopard disk that I upgraded to before Lion. Without Snow Leopard, I cannot use the App center to get my system back up to date.
My other issue is that Leopard will not allow me to re-install my system back-up, possibly due to it being out of date.
Is it at all possible to load Lion some other way without Snow Leopard on my computer? Does Apple even sell Snow Leopard anymore?
I know this is a lot of questions, and I thank you for any insight.
    -Steve

That's good news. Yes, you want to first erase the drive using DU:
    Drive Preparation for Lion
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives.
    3. Select your OS X volume, usually Macintosh HD, from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button.
Quit DU and return to the main menu. Select the option to restore a Time Machine backup and click on the Continue button. Follow instructions.

  • New iMac: how can I get the internal mic to turn off?

I always have Facetime cameras and internal mics disabled for privacy. Cameras are easy to block, but the Sound pane doesn't allow me to disable the mic, only turn the input down to the bottom. Supposedly, its off, right?
Poking around in Prefs, I saw that my supposedly "disabled" microphone showed a response in the Dictation & Speech pane VU meter when I would snap my fingers around the bezel. Even worse, it showed a response to conversation in another room, the refrigerator starting up in the kitchen 25 feet away, and even an increase in ambient noise. Going back to the Sound prefs, the mic input is still turned "down" and doesn't show a response when I snap my fingers.
So... how is it that this supposedly defeated mic is working normally, and in fact exceeding expectations, despite being effectively turned "off" in the Sound pane?
Basically, this iMac is a very expensive bug sitting on my desk. Is there a way to properly disable the mic in the system? I can't even find the thing to block it physically, like with bezel cameras. There is no place for an external mic to plug in either, which would physically bypass any internal mic on my previous Macs.

Interested parties may want to know...
I went to the Apple Store two weeks ago for a replacement Airport Express. While I was waiting for it, I struck up a conversation with one of the store staff, and brought up the mic issue. We spent a good ten minutes going through the few ways of securing the mic, and we determined that every iMac made has the ability to continue listening evne though dictation is shut off. Unlike old Macs, you can't disable the mic in the Sound prefs. You can't turn off listening in the Dictation prefs - even though turning off "dictation" means the dictation part of the OS stops listening. The only way to definintely shut off the "listening" part is to keep the Audio Devices panel open, select Built-in Microphone, and make sure the master mute button is checked. Also, you have to leave the Dictation & Speech pane open in Preferences to watch the mic display.
Even so, going to any other preference panel and then back to Dictation & Speech means that the master mute will uncheck itelf and the mic goes back to listening mode.
The staff member was quite frustrated by this and said it appears the only way to stop the iMac from listening with any certainty would be to block the mic, just like millions of users block the Facetime camera with a piece of tape.
I suppose I should admit defeat at this point, and maybe I should have long ago recognized that no matter what the system tells us, we shouldn't trust it. Simply clicking on a radio button to disable what in all actuality is really a room bug shouldn't have us letting out a sigh of relief and saying "Wow I'm glad I was able to stop that security issue by trusting the machine to let me know when it was listening."
In another year my Apple Care will run out. Then I'm going to take this iMac to my local authorized service center to have a hybrid drive installed and the internal memory maxed out. While they're in there, I'll have the mic physically removed.

  • How can I buy music without iTunes software?

Is there a way to buy music from the iTunes store without iTunes software?

I don't understand why they force users to install their software.
Because most record companies require the iTunes Store to have copy protection and that requires software to process and verify, i.e. iTunes.
iTunes works fine for many, many thousands of users, so perhaps if you would start a thread with details as to any problems you're experiencing (the only thread I see gives very few details and was apparently abandoned), someone may be able to help you sort them out. Otherwise, you'll have to look for some other source of music that's legal in Germany.
