New iMac, iPhone sync help (previously on a pc)

My pc was hit by lightning and died, so as a replacement i ordered a new imac, updated itunes and plugged my phone in, signed into itunes (I don't have any music or videos on my phone nor did i in the pc hard drive of itunes, but I do have a list of apps i bought and use on the phone and on the dead pc itumes).
When I sign into the new mac with my iphone i see my phone and the apps but they are all greyed out, if i hit sync apps it tries to erase most of what I have on the phone so i hit cancel (got scared) hehe.
Since I don't have any music or video stuff only apps how do i get this new mac to work with my previously synched itunes off that dead pc so that I don't lose my apps?
I saw this home sharing thing and turned that on and entered my itunes info and that seems to have worked and says its on, but when i try to sync it still tries to erase most of my apps saying it will replace the apps with apps from this itunes library (which is a new computer so nothing basically).
Thanks for any help this might be super simple even but being day one new to mac and only used itunes on that one pc ever this is all new to me as to how to make it work.
Bill

If you sync contacts and calendar to a blank computer, then they will be erased.
Make sure you have copied everything from your backup copy old computer to your new one.  If your backup copy was fries as well, then enter at least one unique contact and calendar entry on the computer.  When you first sync, you should get the option to merge.

The way that Dropbox works is that it keeps a copy of all your files in your local Dropbox folder on your hard drive (which is, by default, directly under your home folder). Adding files to that folder will sync them to the Dropbox server.
You do of course have to download the Dropbox application to enable this (download link at the top right of http://dropbox.com ).

  • New imac to tv help:  mDVI to DVI cable, DVI to component video adapter?

I am getting my new imac tomorrow, very excited. I would love to be able to hook it up to my HD tv which has component video inputs.
It has two by the way, one says component video, one says component video HD. (that's the one my xbox is hooked up to.)
I think I'm getting like 1020p or something like that?
am aware of the lack of sound, but will have the imac hooked up to speakers so no worries on that.
will this chain work? mDVI-DVI cable, DVI to component video adapter? then what? component video cable to tv?
so I will need to buy two adapters and one cable right? Also, the cable is gonna need to be about 30ft long so will I be able to daisy chain cables?
PS, what kind of resolution will I be getting with the standard (none component HD) inputs?
thanks for the help. The info on the mac sight about adapters in not very specific to this hodge podge.

  • Brand new iMac want to install previous data from Time Machine back up, brand new iMac want to install previous data from Time Machine back up

I am waiting on a brand new iMac to repace my 2007 iMac. I have a Time Capsule and use Time Machine for auto back ups. What do I need to do transfer all data from my older iMac to my new one? I am not running Mavericks on the older iMac but have upgraded all along till the Mavericks free upgrade. Do I need to update the older Mac to Mavericks to make the restore easier.
    Thanks for any guidance,

PowerPC = PPC, this is the architechture of microproccors that Apple used prior to 2006 when they transitioned to Intel based microprocessors. Apple supported PPC based apps from 2006 to about 2012 when Lion (10.7.x) was first introduced. They gave users 6 years to upgrade all of their legacy apps to Intel based apps. Even after 6+ years some users still complained because their old apps would not run with new versions of OS X, that is technology though.
You might still have PPC based apps, if you do and you want to use them they need to be upgraded or replaced. I have noted a link to an article that will help walk you through to see if you have any PPC based apps. If you do then you can decide if you want to continue using them or upgrade.

  • Cannot download apps on new iMac! - please help

I just bought a new iMac for my boss yesterday and when I first set it up, it allowed you to set up without an Apple ID.  I had to do this because he hadn't emailed it to me yet.
Today (next day) I now have it and went to add the Apple ID to the store (iTunes) and to System Pref>Users>Apple ID
Did that and now when I try and download the Apps that come with the computer (Garage Band, Pages, etc etc etc) it tells me that I can't have access to it because the Apple ID belongs to "someone else" .  It doesn't belong to anyone else - it belongs to the owner of the new computer and I need this to sync with his existing contacts and iTunes purchases and Apps.
Any clues how to solve this?  LOL!!!!
    Thank you in advance!

Actually I found the solution - not sure why its not made obvious when someone first gets these App messages:
    1. Go to Apps Icon
    2. At top of window click "Purchases" tab
    3. See if you have Apps to "Accept"
It might ask for your Apple ID and password again as a prompt, put it in and voila!
Once you Accept them, they can then be updated and you won't get the message saying the apps belong to someone else.

  • New 4G Iphone Sync Problem

Just picked up a new 4G Iphone and when connected to itunes for the first time on my PC had to update the software, subsequently tried to sync my phone with computer but no contacts or notes have been loaded. Prior to changing my phone I sync my 3G phone and I don't understand why I am having difficult loading my new phone. Any ideas please?

    iPhone 4G??
Anyway, connect the phone to the computer then find it on the device list on the left of itunes. Right click on it and click restore from backup then choose the backup from your old phone.

  • New iMac/iPad sync?

    Here's my situation.
My old computer died, (HP p6310y) and all my music, photos, app and other stuff were syncronized with my iPAD on that computer.  I have no way of getting the hard drive to work anymore.  Planning on buying a iMAC soon and I was wondering, What do I do to avoid loosing everything from my iPAD when I connect it to my new iMAC?  This is probably a stupid question but I am totally new to apple.  Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You will need to let it resync and delete the old content, you shouldn't lose anything if everything on your old computer is on your new one.

  • Trying to sync info from outlook to new imac / iphone

I just bought an imac and an iphone. All of my information if currently on Outlook on my PC. How do I export it? Do I have to firsts sync with iphone and then sync iphone with imac? Ideas???

You can sync the info first to your iphone and then to your mac.
If you do it this way, make sure that address book on your mac has at least one contact in it.
Also, make sure ical has at least one event in it.
This way itunes will ask if you would like to merge the data.
Or, you can export your contacts as vcards and your calendar as an ics file.
Then move those files to your mac via burnt disk or network.
Then you can import them into address book and ical.
    Hope this helps.

  • New to iphone need help with entourage and tasks

    Hello,
Just got my direct fulfillment iphone today. i am trying to get my entourage 2004 info to my iphone. By following:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1670
I am using my personal iMac running leopard without mobile me. I can see my calendar and my contacts, but I can not figure where my tasks would even show up.
    So, here are my questions:
    1. Is there a better method for syncing this info?
    2. should my tasks show up and where?
    3. Do the same steps work with office:mac 2008? If not what is different?
    4. Any other helpful info?

Settings > Sounds > New Mail, make sure it's ON. Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Fetch New Data > set it to an interval such as Every 15 minutes. Your phone will check for new mail at that interval, and if there is new mail, your phone will sound an alert and vibrate.
You are accessing your account via POP (the only way to access Hotmail using the iPhone's mail app), so it cannot be 'linked' such that changes on one device are reflected on other devices - that's a function of IMAP email, and Hotmail does not support IMAP.

  • New work iphone sync to my wifes iclound account. How do i create an iclound account for my work phone?

Bare with me. My work phone, 5s, is sync to the apple id we use for the other apple device we have. My 5s is also sync'd to my wife icloud account which uses that id we use for everything. I have created a new apple id for the 5s and would like to create my own icloud account for this iphone. my wife has signed out of her account and that is where i sit. At this point do i delete the icloud account from my 5s? Then create a new icloud account using my new apple id for the 5s? My wife has a ton of pics and work thing in the now shared icloud account and i dont want to delete anything from it. I would like to back up before the ios 8 release. Please help. Thanks you in advance.

    Hi 11crv,
You can delete the iCloud account from your device without affecting the contents of iCloud whatsoever. All you are doing by deleting it from your phone is removing the link to that iCloud account, so Photo Stream will get turned off, Contacts will no longer sync, and can be removed from the device if you wish (you will be prompted about this when you delete it). But the only thing that will be affected by the Delete is your device.
Once you have set up a new iCloud account with your new ID, then you will be able to back up your device to your new iCloud account if you wish!
    Cheers,

  • ITunes/iPhone syncing help

I just transferred my iTunes to a new Mac and I on my old computer I used to plug in my iPhone and drag the songs I wanted to my "device" and it would add them. For some reason when I go to drag it to my device on the new Mac it never gives me the capability of dropping it in the music folder. Help??

Your iPhone can only be "synced" with one computer at a time. Regardless of authorization for iTunes content.
You need to transfer ALL content from the old computer to the new. Then, you can choose to sync the iPhone by clicking on it in the sidebar, and across the top going through the Summary, Info, Music, Movies, Photos, Apps etc tabs, and checking the boxes to turn ON syncing to this new computer. It should give you a message each time you do this that says that you will wipe off existing content and then add new content that came from THIS computer instead.
Simply de-authorizing the old computer will not solve your problem- that just tells Apple that you no longer allow the computer to play the content you purchased FROM iTunes. It does not affect syncing other than the transferrence of iTunes store purchases from the device they were bought on to the other device.

  • New PC + iPhone sync - does that have to mean I lose my app data?

    Hello all,
I've got a new PC and I've transferred my purchases & copied my library to it (from my old PC). When I try to sync my iPhone, it says it's going to erase all of the old content. With apps, does that mean I lose all of the data (game progress, Camera+ pictures, etc)?
Can I copy over my iPhone backups from the old PC and avoid this scenario?
    Cheers,
        Brent

    Hello Eric,
Thanks for the link - I'm already good for the music, it's the apps I'm concerned about.
For example, I've made a ton of progress in Jetpack Joyride - am I going to lose all of that progress (10hrs+ of gameplay) when I sync up?
Alternatively, in Camera+ I've got about 95 pictures that are in various states of editing. I'd rather not have to finish the edits on all of them before syncing up
It doesn't seem to make sense that I have to blow these apps away when I've transferred purchases & copied libraries to the new computer.
    Cheers,
        Brent

  • I can't backup my iphone with my last iphone sync help ?

I recently had a problem with my iphone 4 that went to the screen that showed usb cable and itunes logo.
After a lot I had to restore the whole thing so lost everything. Went to itunes to sync it with backup but in synced
with the info I had in my previous iphone 3. Not with my last sync, where did this info go and how can I get it back?

if you have a mac. you can check your device backups in the iTunes. here how, launch iTunes. Go to Preferences > device and there you'll see all the backups. you can delete the latest & leave your previous iphone 3 backup. Once you restore, it will get to your iphone 3 backup. i hope this help

  • IPhone sync help

My dad wants to load his CDs on to his iPhone, but he doesn't have a computer. He wants to use mine to do the upload. How can this happen without him getting my music or deleting my music?

The only way for you to do that is if you were to create an additional user for him on the computer. Then you could let him log into the computer, create his own iTunes library and download then sync the music from there. Question, if he does not have a computer, where has he been backing up his phone, importing his photos and the like. Without the backup and syncing, he could lose all of his data. I'm guessing this might be a new phone and he hasn't done anything else with it yet?

  • New Imac, has problem using previous portable hard drive

Been using a Seagate portable hard drive on various apple computers for 3 years. had a new one for school this year, and went to use it on our new computer. it does not recognize the hard drive, when you plug it in. did I forget something here?
    Scott

Illaass, yes I have used this drive on MANY apple compuers from Imac, to mac pro's and my laptop at home. it has worked flawlessly on all of them. It is formatted to Mac. appears to be in working order, and works fine when I transfer it back to my laptop. "problem" laptop does not hold Photoshop, and I have work to do.
It appears to be spinning, and cable apears functional.
noyt sure about the last question though? I do not find the drive ANYWHERE on the new computer.
