on the ebay page above there is Cas Latency = 4
thanks

Ok, I can see it where you pointed it out. The auction also states:
"IMAGE FOR REFERENCE ONLY" and "Unsure - email us for compatibility"
What it is, or whether they say it's compatible or not, doesn't really change anything. It still should be 5, not 4.
These same numbers appear on original equipment Samsung, Micron, Hynix, and Nanya RAM pulled from various Intel-based Mac models (and, I've never seen anything different):

  • Powerpoint on a new iMac-- memory issue

Using 2004 Office/Powerpoint on a new iMac with 8GB RAM...continue to get 'not enough memory' message when trying to make a large Powerpoint file...so far, 200 pp of photos, with 100 to go.  Why?  Solution?

Office 2004 will not run on a new iMac. Only Office 2008 or 2011 will run under on a new iMac.
Yes, you may be running out of RAM. Launch Activity Montior and see how much free memory is available.
What resolution are the photos? It's wise to reduce the photo resolution to a more manageable size by exporting them from iPhoto before creating a Powerpoint slideshow.

  • I didn't notice an optical drive on the new iMacs. If this is true then how are customers to insert a dvd from a new peripheral purchased?

Where is the DVD player on the new iMacs?

I'm only guessing but it is no coincidence that Lion and Mountain Lion can only be bought be download from App Store.   Apple may well only want to sell this way in the future, via the App Store.   So no need for DVD facilities.

  • NEW IMAC MEMORY

Well, I've done it!  The new iMac has been released in Australia and I have ordered a 27", 3TB drive, biggest graphics etc.
My problem is that I have previously used PC. and I don't know much about memory. The cost of extra memory in Aussie is prohibitive!
In the order it said 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM,which I have only ordered 8GB and wish to purchase additional ram.
Could somebody please explain in English exactly what I need to order. I know that I want 16GB (2x8GB), but I don't know how to explain it.
Also could you please advise the best place to purchase.
I have been advised that the iMac will be delivered in the Christmas week. Thanking you in anticipation, yackem

    Hey down there!

They do ship here, no idea of the cost, but you can find that out there also... & ask them about it!

  • Turned on brand new Imac, than saw this message in my emails.

A few minutes after getting the new Imac with Mavericks running, I looked at my yahoo email and found this message from Apple Support:
    Dear XXXX,
Your Apple ID xxxxx..yahoo.com was used to sign in to FaceTime, iCloud, and iMessage on an iMac 27" named “iMac14,3”.
If you have not recently set up an iMac with your Apple ID, then you should change your Apple ID password. Learn more.
    Apple Support
I am not terribly familiar with Icloud.....what could be happening here?   Is someone on the outside getting my information...do I need to be concerned about this....btw, I don't know anyone in particular with a 27"Imac, I only have 21.5" Imacs, two of them.  Both were up and running when I was doing all this and transferring my docs etc from one to the other.....so...what do you all think?

I recieved the exact same message after I installed OS X on my new IMac.  "Your apple ID was used to sign in to FaceTime and IMessage on an IMac 27" named "iMac14,3"."  Since I have a 21.5" IMac that does not have a name, I changed my Apple ID and Password.
The whole thing seemed very strange so I looked up the warning on this site and came across this post. Seems I changed my ID for nothing. This issue should be fixed, it is confusing. I don't use Facetime or IMessage so I have no idea why I got this message.

  • New iMac memory configs

    Hi folks,
My wife is about to retire her G4 15" iMac, and get a new 20" 2Ghz model - I will add extra RAM from Crucial, but I was wondering whether I need to keep the chips in pairs: ie default is 1Gb - should I add another 1Gb, or would a 2Gb be ok? - I am assuming that since it ships with a solitary chip anyway, I can configure them unevenly without any issues!?
    Cheers
    Adam

    Good morning,
Most likely your iMac will ship with dual channel memory, meaning two chips.
    As for your other question...
*Q: Do I have to install memory in matching pairs?*
    *A: No.*
No, you can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. But if your computer supports dual-channel memory configurations, you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance.
*Q: Will I notice the difference in speed if I use non-matched memory?*
    *A: No.*
The performance difference between matched pairs of memory versus non-matched pairs is insignificant in the overall performance of your computer. Apple Discussion Forum Experts generally agree it is better to install the maximum memory possible in your system over a lesser amount of matched memory.
    Hope this helps! 

  • I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures.  How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old?  Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?.

I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures.  How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old?  Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?
I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem.  Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos?  Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

  • Upgrade eMac or Buy New iMac

I've got an obsolete ol' eMac running Mac OSX 1.3.9, as I never upgraded to Tiger. Well now that Leopard's come along, I figure I might as well go for it. However, my eMac's only got 512MB of memory and I'd need to spend like $100 or more on 1GB of memory alone just to run Leopard. On top of that, I need another external hard drive, and my eMac's fan is loud (though I guess there's nothing wrong with it exactly, it's just being loud and weird).
All that said, would it be worth it to even bother upgrading my eMac and everything, or should I just get a new iMac? I mean eMac's are already obsolete as it is, and it'd be a waste of money if I upgraded it now and in a year or so just ended up having to buy a new computer for some reason anyway (such as if this one dies, like if the wack fan leads to it's demise or something)...

Obsolete! Older, yes. No longer sold, yes, but gosh dag nabbit, my old eMac is still my primary machine and does the job very well with everything I need it to do (video editing, iTunes, iPod, etc.). That said, I have been drooling over the new iMacs lately, but this eMac still has a lot of life left in it.
But back to your eMac. First thing I would do is invest in a nice external hard drive if you do not have one. Get one that can be connected via Firewire so you can take advantage of Firewire speed if your eMac is an older model without USB2 ports. Then back up everything important to that external.
An external is not a bad investment at all, even for an old machine, because it can go with you when you upgrade so there is no risk of "leaving it behind" if the eMac dies. If and when you get a new iMac, the drive can simple be moved to that machine and you keep using it. So regardless of which way you go, keep the eMac or move to an iMac, the external hard drive is still a great idea to protect your irreplaceable data (family digital photos, home videos, etc.).
As to the eMac, if you wanted to upgrade the operating system, I would look into getting a copy of Tiger. It is a nice upgrade to Panther (10.3.9) and with Leopard (10.5) out, will should start to see copies of Tiger for very affordable prices. While more would be better, under Tiger, you can probably do fine with the 512MB RAM you have now if you don't do any sort of heavy processing.
So like the others, a new iMac would be fantastic and you wouldn't regret it. But if you want to stick with the eMac for a bit more, get the external hard drive anyway as you will want it to backup even if you get the iMac. Now either continue to use the eMac as is (10.3.9 & 512MB) or find a cheap copy of Tiger and upgrade to that and stick with the same RAM and just turn off some of the memory hogging eye candy in Tiger like the Widgets. I bet if you looked around you might be able to find Tiger for $50-ish so your total upgrade cost is $50 (the external hard drive I don't count since it will go with you to the iMac).

  • What is the best CD and DVD to use with my new iMac Intel?

Guys, please help. I am not great on the computers and need a bit of help and advice. Just brought a brand new iMac Intel G5. This is to replace my older but much loved iMac G4, which is very simple to use. Have had nothing but trouble with the new one which was especially brought to copy CD's and DVD's and to have a good play with. After much head scratching have just been told by Apple help desk that the new intels may not like CD-R. These disks worked fine on my old Mac, brought a new pack (100). I can copy information and burn to these disks using Disk Utility. BUT they can only be read on the Intel iMac, not on my old mac or PC at work. This is only simple word and pdf files, nothing complicated. Copying and burning DVD's even more of a nightmare. What makes and formats do you recommend that I use? I can copy to DVD+R. Your advise would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Townie1978

Thats the full spec of my iMac Intel duo core, plus added memory. As per the sellers website. The bit about the superdrive is pure fantasy. Have tried to copy and burn to DVD -R, +R and -RW all go through the motions and keep you in suspense. Then you put the disc in another player and disc not recognised. Really, really upset by this.

  • Video Card on New iMac 24"

I just purchased one of the new iMac 24" 2.4GHz. After purchasing, I upgraded from 1Gb to 4Gb of RAM. I purchased this machine solely to use for video editing. I'm a professional graphic designer, and I have owned several eMacs and iMacs over the past 5-6 years. I've always been impressed with the performance and price point of these "non-pro" machines.
Up until this latest purchase, I have been doing most of my work on a 20" white iMac 2Ghz Intel with 1Gb of RAM. I have been very impressed with this 20" machine. It runs all the pro apps very well, with great speed and performance, and super stability. I guess I could say that this 20" 2GHz machine is the best Mac I have ever owned.
Because I was so impressed with the 20" 2GHz model, is why I decided to invest in another. I really needed another machine to use as a standalone video editing machine, to run Apple Motion, Final Cut, and Cinema 4D.
So, far this newest 24" 2.4GHz 4Gb RAM model has not overly impressed me. It is a very nice looking machine, and it runs Illustrator, Photoshop and the other graphics programs great, with no lag. But, for video production using Apple Motion, it has not been as stable as my previous 20" (with only 1Gb RAM!). I thought with the addition of added processor speed, quadruple the the amount of RAM, and a so called "better graphics card" that this new machine would run Motion like a dream. I do want to note that my video projects are not HUGE. Most of them are under 3 minutes in length, and standard resolution.
As I read through discussion forums, I am slowly learning that the new graphics card may be a bit lacking in these new iMacs. For this reason I ask, is there any way to upgrade the video cards in these new machines?? If so, please advise, I have many video projects coming up in the future and I need a good solution. If it is not upgradable, what Mac machine would be the best, (cost effective) route to running motion graphics software?

jalapi, Welcome to the discussion area!
...is there any way to upgrade the video cards in these new machines??
No the video capability is part of the motherboard and therefore not changeable nor upgradeable.

  • How can I import photo's from an older iPod to my new iMac ? I can do "import" in iPhoto, but the system does not "see" my iPod, even if it is connected to the iMac

I bought a new iMac. All photo's from the old iMac are on my iPod. The old iMac had a problem, due to which I could not transfer photo's. So I am trying to import the photo's from my iPod to my new iMac. But this does not work. The new iMac suggests to replace the content of the iPod with the content of the iMac, but I want to do just the reverse. When the iPod is connected to the iMac, the iMac seems to ignore the iPod. Probably because the iPod was first used on the old iMac ?

Photos on the iPod are not stored in standard formats, but in formats that are optimised for the space annd screen size of the device. So, unless you have specifically chosen to save full size images on the iPod - and have set up disk access for the job - then it's not going to work.
There are apps that will recover photos from iPods. Have a search on MacUpdate
But the best solution is to get the pics from your old Mac somehow.

  • I just purchased new iMac, how do I get data from my MacBook to the new iMac?

  • File transfer from eMac to new iMac

I plan on transferring files from my eMac (10.4.11) to the new iMac with mountain Lion. Since the new Mac doesn't have a firewire port, here is my plan:
    1) buy a 400 to 800 firewire adapter cable
    2) buy a 800 firewire to thunderbolt cable
    3) daisychain them and run migration assistant with the eMac in target disk mode
    Will this work?

If your old iMac has Firewire, you can use the migration assistant that comes with the new iMac described in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
If your old iMac has no Firewire, networking the two machines has differing instructions depending on which operating system is installed on the old iMac. What's the newest operating system you have installed on the iMac G3, if this is the case?
Speaking of operating systems, the iMac G5 does not come with Mac OS 9 preinstalled. Nor is it able to boot into Mac OS 9. However, on its installation disks is a program to "restore" Mac OS 9 so that it can be used in Mac OS X's "Classic" environment. The Classic environment allows most Mac OS 9 applications to work, though many drivers that previously worked under Mac OS 9 may not work within the Classic environment for specific peripherals, and graphics drivers for specific games. If you were only using Mac OS 9 previously, you may want to keep around the iMac G3 for those Mac OS 9 applications that don't work in Classic. One of these three articles explains how to load the Mac OS 9 system folder from the iMac G5 disks:

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42929

I'm not sure which one is appropriate.

  • Purchasing New iMac?

I have plenty of money to purchase a new iMac for school this year. I am going to buy a 24', 500gb HD, 4gb ram with the nVidia graphics card. But I have heard that a new refresh of iMac is coming out soon. I need this for school in the next few weeks, so if the new refresh is coming out in 1-2 months then i'll wait. But if it will be any longer then that i'll just buy the iMac now.
Also if you bought an iMac and then Apple refreshed it a couple of weeks or perhaps a month later would they let you exchange it for a small upgrade fee or something along them lines?
Thank you for any help offered, i'm curious on your opinions on when I should get one.

But I have heard that a new refresh of iMac is coming out soon.
This is an unsubstantiated rumour, because Apple don't announce new models in advance.
I need this for school in the next few weeks, so if the new refresh is coming out in 1-2 months then i'll wait. But if it will be any longer then that i'll just buy the iMac now.
No-one outside Apple knows and Apple aren't telling. This is always the situation; whenever you buy a new computer there is a risk that a newer model will appear after not too long. That way you could put off buying one for ever.
Also if you bought an iMac and then Apple refreshed it a couple of weeks or perhaps a month later would they let you exchange it for a small upgrade fee or something along them lines?
    No chance.

  • How can i get that wallpaper picture in the new imac ad

The new Imac ad has this AMAZING picture of a multi-colored flower as it's wallpaper (maybe).  Is that picture downloadable from Apple or is it part of an app/

The best I could suggest is this.  It's close to what you're looking for, but not exactly:
    Go to http://www.apple.com/imac/design/
Click "View the Gallery" near the top.  Go to the fourth picture in the gallery.  Control click, and select "Use as Desktop Picture" if you like it.
