venjomizer

Is model number different than part number, because the part numbers DO still start with M.
The new models are part numbers MB417LL/A, MB418LL/A, MB419LL/A, & MB420LL/A which you can see if you scroll down to the chart section on the bottom of this page... http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html

  • How to downgrade a new iMac (model 12.1) to SnowL

Hi I just got a new iMac with the latest version of Lion but I want it to run under SL, since many of my prgrams won't work on Lion.
I got the original SL instalation disc as well as a Time Machine Backup HD (with Leopard from my old iMac).
    Regards

Your new iMac may not be able to boot into Snow Leopard. Although the currently-shipping models were first released with Snow Leopard, and so one might assume that they can boot into Snow Leopard, those being sold now might have received minor changes to their hardware or firmware which prevent Snow Leopard from fully functioning or booting these machines at all.
I know that I've had mixed success with recently-purchased iMacs and Snow Leopard. So I suggest that you do not remove the Lion installation, but instead use an external hard drive or a partition of the internal hard drive for any attempt to install Snow Leopard.
If you have a "full retail" Snow Leopard installation DVD, just pop it into your iMac's optical drive (after formatting the external drive/partitioning the internal drive using Disk Utility, of course), restart while holding the C key on your keyboard, and be sure to choose the external drive/correct internal drive partition on which you want to try installing Snow Leopard.

  • Are you going to sale new iMac model on 2014?

I'm gonna buy an iMac this year but I don't know if it's better that I wait for a new model or buy the actual model.

The newest iMac was just released in October. The new one supports all the Wi Fi connections
a,b,g,n, and apples new ac, the ac is 802.11ac and works with the new Airport with time machine. This allows you even safer backup's than before. If you by chance get an USB External Hard Drive it gives you yet another back up that allows you to have a redundant backup. So if I were you get one NOW>

  • Multiple monitors on new iMacs?

    Hi all,
I have had the same 2003 iMac for the past 10 and a bit years and I'm finally in a position to afford an upgrade. I'll be getting one of the new iMac models shortly.
I also have two 'spare' non-Apple monitors that my ex-flatmate left me with a year ago and has finally admitted he's not coming back for and I can have them. I'd really like to be able to connect these either side of my new iMac and have a three monitor setup. But I'm afraid I don't understand thunderbolt at all and after a bit of research into multi monitor setups on Macs I'm even more confused.
The monitors are a Samsung and a HP in good condition, both have DVI and VGA connections. Will I be able to connect both of these to a new iMac? I assume I'll need some extra cables or adaptors, but I'm not sure what to get.
    Thanks for any help!

    Regarding the Bug in 10.9.3:
One of my colleagues (Wjosten) has suggested:
"If you use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X, it installs the version of OS X that originally came with your computer."
So if this is a deal-breaker, the suggestion is to invoke Recovery_HD and use it to Re-Install [the old version of] Mac OS X over the Internet. Once complete, very selectively search for the individual updates that take you back to the last working version.

I was transfering files from WD My Cloud to this new iMac. but suderly started the Kernel Panic, I didn't know what caused the first but then I try to use WD as my Time Machine too but again, a new Kernel Panic, I rebooth my WD My Cloud and tried to do it again, and after 3 hours of backing up another Kernel Panic, this is what I got.
In addition I have a Time Capsule, in which I was able to do a backup before, but I am trying to have another backup because my TM is 2 years old and I don't want to lose information if my TM fail.

Can anybody help me please?. I am in the time frame where I can return either the iMac or the WD my Cloud.
    Thanks.

A new iMac should not experience a kernel panic. Contact Apple's Support, formerly Apple Express Lane and let them deal with the problem. Do note, that, at least in the US, you can return any Mac the first 14 days w/o any questions asked.

  • New iMac Display Sizes

I'm ready to buy one of the new iMac models but when looking at the current 20", 24" monitors, I think the 24" is the largest I can comfortable accommodate on my desk.
I note that the newly released iMac is available as a 21.5" or a 27" in a 16:9 ratio. What was the old ratio, or better yet, is the viewable screen size of a new 27" the same as the old 24" or is it larger?
If the new sizes equal the viewable sizes of the old iMac screens then I can accommodate a 27" model on my desk. If it is larger, I'll have to get a 21.5".
    Thanks
    kayjh

Again, the important thing is pixel count. A 50-inch HDTV may have a physically larger display, but it only has 1920x1080 pixels (the same as the 21.5-inch new iMac). Larger pixels does not let you do more with your computer, MORE pixels does.
You can figure out the pixel density this way. Using the [Pythagorean theorem|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem],
    !http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/1/4/5/1455314a78f39a594485adbaf74d63f9.png!
figure out how many pixels go along th diagonal. You know a (2560) and b (1440), so you can figure out c. I get 2937 pixels along the diagonal. That diagonal is 27 inches, so the pixel density (pixels per inch) is 2937 divided by 27, or about 109 ppi.
For the 24-inch display, using the same math, it is only about 94 ppi.
So objects on the new display will look about 10% smaller than they would look on the old display. The new display will also look more sharp for the same reason. And as I mentioned above, the new display has 60% more pixels to work with compared to the old display.

  • New imac open i am not able to on, just bought two day before what would be problem

i have just bought new imac model no Mc306 i am not able to make it on, what do i am confuse

I don't have a WSJ account to test... Here is some general advice:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
This will open a window listing the site's cookies, which you can remove individually.
Then try reloading the page and logging back in. Does that help?

Screen sharing setup in 10.5, 10.6 are described by the links by operating system.  10.7 is fairly similar to 10.6.
And if both Macs have Firewire, you can setup a Firewire over IP network for fast communication between machines.  Note if you have two different Firewire ports a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable does exist.  There are no Firewire to USB cables.

  • Burner not working, 8.98 GB free, can this 2003/2004 imac model be cleaned for better use or will I continue to have problems?  Do I need to just buy a new one?

You could buy an external dvd/cd drive.

You need to delete some files.  Many posters to these forums state that you need much more free space: 5 gig to 10 gig or 10 percent of you hd size.

Be careful when deleting files. A lot of people have trashed their system when deleting things. Place things in trash. Reboot & run your applications. Empty trash.
Go after large files that you have created & know what they are.  Do not delete small files that are in a folder you do not know what the folder is for. Anything that is less than a megabyte is a small file these days.

Monolingual is a program for removing unnecessary language resources from Mac OS X,in order to reclaim several hundred megabytes of disk space. It requires at least Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and also works on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). It worked for me on 10.4

  • Which new Imac 27inch model is better?

I was looking to upgrade from a MacBook Pro to the new Imac 27inch. I was looking online and saw that the lower 27inch 2.9 ghz model runs the same or a little better than the 27inch 3.2ghz model. Does anyone know if this is true and does anyone have some suggestion on which model to get?

Both are Intel i5 CPUs so, the 3.2Ghz CPU should be faster.
If the 2.9Ghz i5 CPU model was tested with the Fusion drive, it may have been faster, but that would mean that the 3.2Ghz CPU model would be even faster with the Fusion Drive, too!
Purchase the best and fastest iMac you can afford.
Plus, with the 3.2 Ghz CPU model you get the faster 1GB VRAM GPU.

  • New iMacs slow to open programs compared to previous model?

    Hi all,
I have noticed something while looking at the new iMacs on display in store:
While a previous-model (just superseded) 24" 3.0g ghz dual-core opens iMovie in 4 seconds, the new models repeatedly take 40 seconds or more to do the very same thing. On different machines...in different stores...same thing happens.
When questioned why, the assistant looked at me uncomfortably and said "Yes, I have learned Apple has supplied us with demo machines installed with the incorrect display drivers..." Huh? Demo machines? Wrong display drivers?
I think he was trying to have a lend of me...surely (a) Apple doesn't supply demo machines to the outlets and, (b) they wouldn't install graphics drivers separately to the rest of the system software.
Anyway...has anyone else noticed the slow performance of the new iMacs when opening programs?
    Cheers.

myhighway, what's your point in relation to my original observation?
What I was saying was that it was interesting that the new models were - in my experience - quite a bit slower than the older model. I had experienced this in two different stores. Had anyone noticed/experienced this and what could be the reason? I just thought the sales guys explanation was a bit flaky at best. I was making a simple observation...no biggy.
Whatever the reason for whatever Apple does (who cares?) it was interesting to note that the newer models appeared slower than the old.
Oh and by the way, I have been a very proud Mac owner since my first in 2003. Will never buy anything else but a Mac now, unless I really have to. So I am already - well and truly - a mac convert.

It's also possible that the heat damage, if that's what it really is, was caused by overheating while you were using it.
Get iStat Pro widget to monitor the temps and possibly prevent overheating of the new drive. You want to keep the drive temp as close as possible to 45C. 45-50 probably still OK, but constantly or very often above that will shorten the drive life.
    http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/12/hard-drive-temperatures-be-afraid.html
If there was noticeable heat damage to the drive, and it might not have been that, the temps would have had to have been extraordinarily high. Don't know about your model, but the thermal shutdown temp for some older Macs was 85C.

    Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem
How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • New iMac (2013 27" Model)

    Hi,
Currently I'm deciding if I should get a new iMac 27". I am using a 17" Macbook Pro (2010 17") and it's not handling what I use it for (Video Editing).
If you have a new iMac and use it for video editing, could you please leave a comment below and tell me what you think of it. I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks

    Thanks for both your responses.
I'm going to be upgrading the RAM for sure, because that does make a HUGE difference in speed. Thinking of fusion drive, not sure about it however. The upgraded video card would be great, but it's an extra $1000 that I don't have. Processor I have heard dosn't really make a difference because if RAM is upgraded it's just as good?
If I was to buy just the 27" iMac, would that do good for me for a while in video editing?
I would love something fast and have used a basic iMac with no upgrading and it worked pretty good.
    Thanks
