New Imac - not sure if this is the right thread, sorry!

Hi there, my mother has just purchased a new Imac, (not sure which one sorry) and it is missing IMovie, although it seems to have all of the other i life applications...I have searched applications and hard drive, but it does not seem to be there - any ideas??? Thanks in advance.

It should be installed. If it got deleted accidentally, find Disc 1 of the discs that came with the Mac.
On the disc, there should be a link for +Install Bundled Software Only+. Double-click that icon to launch Installer. Go through the initial screens, and click the Customize button when it comes up. De-select (uncheck) everything except for iMovie HD.
Then click the Install button.

...but I need some help with Star Office. (If there is a Star Office support newsgroup somewhere please let me know and I will post there). But in the mean time I have a question:
The company that I work for has decided to support Star Office (yay!). And it is my task to redevelop the relevant parts of their existing codebase. Currently we have a DLL (developed in VB) that is run via an Excel macro (the macro is really just a collection of stubs that allows access the the DLL).
I have developed a Java application (which does the same sort of things as the existing engine), and I have compiled it into a JAR file.
I now want to be able to access classes in that JAR file via StarBasic. Is this possible? Am I on the right track? I have been reading about UNO. Do I have to wrap my classes up in UNO interfaces? And if so, are there any good examples/tutorials?
As you can see I am a little lost at the moment. So any help that anyone could provide would be GREATLY appreaciated. :)
    Thanks! :)
    Ben

    http://www.openoffice.org/ is the open source
developer that twins Star Office; they hava a number
of mailing lists that are active.Yep, I've had a look there. I even downloaded Open Office to see if the examples would give me any insight.. though no luck :(
I'll just keep searching aorund I guess...
But this seems like something that should be fairly easy to accomplish. Perhaps I am missing something simple?

Ok, so I can NOT find an address to send my iPod to ANYWHERE.
My iPod has been "broken" for about 2-3 months, the iPod its self works fine, but I can only get sound out of the left ear phone, (and no, I am not so stupid as to not think of the headphones, I have tried several different pairs of head phones). It will work well on my stero though, (one of the one's that the iPod "docks" with. So can any one give me an address to send my iPod to?

Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk

  • Not sure if this is the right place...Recovery or Finding missing files

    Hi,
Again, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but its worth a shot.
so i've been transcribing video all day using microsoft office for mac, and was saving the project (i thought) to an external hard drive. at one point the HD came unplugged, and i plugged it back in. no big deal. i continued to save, to type, save, type, etc until finished. so when i finished and saved the project, seemed okay. when i closed word, it kept asking me if i wanted to save changes...i said yes, and it would just ask me again, did this a few times. i assumed it was asking me to save it to a new location, which i didn't think i needed so finally said no.
i then find out that somehow when the HD was unplugged it erased Words ability to save to said location. so my last save was really before the HD was removed, which is odd, because i kept saving and never was prompted the path was interrupted or anything.
so my question is two part...
    1. where would i find in the depths of the computer the saved files? if i was saving, they had to have gone somewhere, but i dont know how to find them.
    2. also, assuming it wasnt saving, my word prefs say it autosaves every 5 minutes, so those files must exist somewhere also, yet can't find them...
does this make sense, can anyone help me?
    thanks
    austin

    Hi there,
In Finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists.
See if it may be in one of those with a 1 or 2 added to it.

    Hi everyone
Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, however any redirect is appreciated. Where can I get the download for the latest old mozilla browser. The one with the dinosaur icon before the browser turned firefox. Thanks, Jen

Phoenix and Firebird were what Firefox was called before Firefox was settled on in 2004, and both used "birds" as the logo. IIRC, the dinosaur was used in the Mozilla Suite.
Here are the earliest versions of the Mozilla Suite. <br />

I hope this request for a historical purposes of where Mozilla came from, because those old versions aren't safe to use on the internet any longer.

  • Changing date information (not sure if this is the right version)

    Hi guys,
I'm not sure which version of iPhoto I'm using. It came by default with my MacBook Pro a year and a half ago, so perhaps someone whose switched on to those things will know which version that is.
The problem is that I recently added a group of pictures to iPhoto that have the wrong date on them. Apparently the camera was set to January 2007. This now means that these photos are in the wrong order in the library. How do I re organise the files so that they appear in the right order (i.e. at the bottom)? I've already tried highlighting all of the pictures, cliking 'batch change', and changing the date, but that only changes that date that they were added, which doesn't seem to change the order. Is there some sort of re organise button I need or something similar? Is there a way to change the date that the pictures were created? This is really only a small thing, but it is annoying all the same. All help is greatly appreciated.

    iPhoto Menu -> About iPhoto
will tell you which version you have. It's important because the solutions vary according to the version.
    Regards

  • AME - not sure if this is the right way to proceed

I'm not sure where to post this or if AME is even the right place to start. However, if you point me in the right direction, I'll take your advice and move right along.
I am one step shy of a novice. Please understand and respond accordingly.
I have been given a task to complete a video for a conference. I am receiving video footage from all over the place and in all kinds of formats. I am using Adobe Premier Master Suite CS4 Windows 7 64 bit. My pc is more than suitable - exceeding all Adobe standards and built by an Adobe recommended vendor. I have no problems with the pc when working with DV tape. I use it all the time creating all types of projects.
The project is SD 720 x 486. The output will be to DVD. NTSC, not PAL.
    I have recieved so far....
    .mod 1280 x 720
    .mod 720 x 480
    .mpg 640 x 480
    .avi 720 x 576
    .avi 1920 x 1080
    .avi 720 x 480
    I've even received Hi-8 tape!
Most everything else is DV tape and I'm having absolutely no problem capturing, editing, etc etc Everything here works just fine. Audio - great. Video - great. Yes I'm importing the files via firewire. Wish everything else were so simple!
So, is there a reference that I can use to find out how to "convert?" all these things to a standard SD 720 x 486 .avi file that Adobe will love and cherish?
Thanks for reading all of this. Hope someone can help me.

    Thanks
I didn't think so but I didn't want to mess up the Touch.

  • I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question...

The hard drive icon has mysteriously disappeared off of my desktop and I have NO CLUE how to get it back! I also added another hard drive and that icon as well, does not show up on the desktop. If I load a cd in the drive, it will show up - but my hard drive(s) won't.
    HELP!!!!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Not sure if this is the right place but......."noisy iMac, whats the deal?"

    Hey,
I had recentely been having problems with my first gen iMac G5 (distorted video, noisy fans e.t.c), but after sending it in for repair ,courtesy of Apple Extention Repair Program, I am still having problems. I don't get the distorted video anymore but I am still getting the noise coming from my computer. Should this all have been taken care of when I put it in for repair or is the noise a seperate issue? Also, is there anyway I can fix this because it is driving me crazy?!?!?!
    Thanks
    Ian

Since it was in for repair, I certainly would have mentioned it to the techs when I brought it in.
There is no way for you to fix it, as the parts are no longer considered user serviceable.
Since you just sent it in, I would call them and tell Apple that you are still having noise issues and see what they will do.

  • Not Sure if this is the right forum but took a chance

I need to know the following information about the 3D tools used in photoshop.
How can it be used? What are the tools used for?
I need an example of how it can be used.
Where can the tool be found specifically,
I am taking a class and this is one tool I haven't a clue what it is or where it is. Please email me at [email protected]
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I am assuming you have Photoshop CS3, CS4, or CS5. If so, the 3D tools are only available in the Extended version of Photoshop.
Here is a link for the Photoshop forums. Select the forum that supports your OS.  If you ask on the Photoshop forum, be sure to say which version of Photoshop extended you have as the 3D tools have been updated each year.

I personally would not be a best one to give you the workflow as I have 3D applications that are designed to do this type of thing. I can ,however, pass along a tip that I figured out while working on a contest using a trial of CS5 Extended. (Make a folder and put the 3D object and the texture files in it together. If you don't put the texture files in with the 3D model, the texture doesn't come into Photoshop applied.)
Adobe help document and how to access 3D tools...
If you have CS5, look for a header that says 3D in your menu bar. There you will find the 3D options. 3D tool icons also appear in the tool box.

If you have CS3 or CS4, there isn't a menu item. You have to open a 3D object file. 3D tools only appear if a 3D object layer is selected in the layer's palette.

  • Not sure if this is the right place...but is there any aggregate data repository/dictionary out there?

And what I mean is...Is there any aggregate data dictionary out there that tells you how long and what type a data column should be?
For example...Medical Provider Name...what is the normal length for something like this? Provider ID? Tax ID? Address Line 1? City? State?...Etc...
Is like EDI X12 considered the Bible of Data Dictionaries? Yet you have to pay for that don't you? Is there anything else I can reference???
Thanks for your review and am hopeful for a reply.

    Provider ID is well defined:
    "National Provider Identifier Standard (NPI)
The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Administrative Simplification Standard. The NPI is a unique identification number for covered health care providers. Covered health care providers and
all health plans and health care clearinghouses must use the NPIs in the administrative and financial transactions adopted under HIPAA. The NPI is a 10-position, intelligence-free numeric identifier (10-digit number). This means that the numbers do not carry
other information about healthcare providers, such as the state in which they live or their medical specialty. The NPI must be used in lieu of legacy provider identifiers in the HIPAA standards transactions."

  • Videos from websites wont show up....not sure if this is the right forum.

Videos wont show up from any websites.
The place where a video would be just isnt there.
Music from myspace will not play as well.
    Any suggestions?

I experienced the same thing with my Safari after the 10.4.11 upgrade. However, the following procedure worked for me:
Go to - System Preferences > QuickTime
then click on the 'Streaming' tab. Make sure the Enable Instant-On is checked. Set it to Play immediately. Re-start Safari. Videos should now work.
Somehow after the upgrade, the streaming setting on my safari was set to a long delay. Thats probably why the video wasn't showing.
    Hope this helps.

  • Not sure if this is the right place, but I need help working with wtmpx

I am trying to write a program that collects data from the /var/adm/wtmpx file and I would like to use the structures and functions provided by the utmpx.h file in /usr/include. I can read the utmpx file with no problem, however I would like to read the wtmpx file. I think the way to do it is to use the function utmpxname(). However, this appears to be the one function that doesn't seem to work. The compiler complains that there is no function utmpxname(). I am mainly a C++ programmer so this code is a little confusing to me. Where can I find the actual implementation of the utmpxname()? PLEASE HELP!!

This is a Solaris question. You should post it to that discussion.
Items in section 3 of the manual are not part of the compiler. They
would be in libc or some other system lib distributed with
the OS and not maintained under the compiler collection.

  • Putting Windows back (not sure if this is the right area for this)

I have an Acer Revo that I'm trying to return to Windows status (in order to sell/give away).  I backed it up before first boot with FSArchiver and installed Arch (32 and 64 at different points) and Unity Linux on this machine in its time of use.  I used gparted to recreate the original partitions and FSArchiver to reconstitute the original files.  No errors in returning the files or partitions at all.  But when I try to boot it, I'm getting Grub error 17.  I'm unsure as to why I'm experiencing this.  As far as I know, I did a complete format of all linux partitions.  I deleted them all, one by one, then created the ntfs partitions.  After that, I dropped the backups into place.  Everything should have worked, unless I'm missing something.  Any help on this is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

don't have an install CD... pre-installed wiith purchase of the system... which I believe means that the smaller partition is a recovery partition, but grub is the first thing to attempt to do anything.  I figure I need a lower level formatting tool (could possibly use arch setup to do the formatting that I need to get rid of grub, wherever it is) but what could I actually use that I can run from a livecd or something (this is a nettop, so I am not in the mood to open it back up again in order to remove the drive and connect it to another system).
On my laptop, I had a recovery partition, but I blew it away when I installed Linux. I believe you can get disks from your computer manufacturer if you ask them.

  • Not Sure if this is the right Section

Could some one please help me. I've got a G5 running 10.5.8 and using a wireless network from Airport Extreme with 802.11n, version 7.4.2, which is connected to the standard Virgin media hub.
The problem I am having is every time a laptop connects to the network and finds the internet, it freezes my computer by a gray overlay telling me to restart my machine.
This happens every time, even when laptop wakes up from a sleep. Its not only my wifes laptop which runs Windows 7, but a friends laptop running Vista.
Is there a setting that I'm missing or could this be a question for Virgin.
