New iMac set-up stuck in VO, can't complete set-up

Hi, just got my new iMac (converting from PC - yeah!), but it is stuck in this VO thing. It won't allow me to use the trackpad to click on any items on the screen, and I have difficulty selecting anything on the screen. Haven't even been able to complete registration/set-up. Any suggestions?

Have you checked the applications folder?
To quickly find it on the top right press the spotlight button it looks like that image
and type in Mail it should appear in the spotlight list, click it to launch mail or alternatively right click it and press open enclosing folder to find out where it has vanished too

Hi,
I do not understand your problem. iTunes Match does not change the way iTunes looks. When match process is complete, the match screen tells you how much music you have in the cloud.
Across the top of screen you have options to select songs, albums, artist, composers etc.
Suggest that from main menu, select view>show sidebar.

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

New iMac set-up

We're finally getting new iMacs at work and, with no IT department, I need an idiot's how-to guide to A) move files from old to new (do we want to use Migration Asst?) and B) "scrub" old so they can be donated and none of our info can be seen. Some SS #s, financials, etc.
What about re-setting up our network? I seem to recall it was fairly easy years ago and expect the iMacs to be even simpler.
Any other tips or hints would be appreciated.

That is easy enough, put the original Install DVD that came with the old machine into it's drive. Then restart the machine while holding down the Option button. Shortly it will ask which volume to boot from, choose the Install Disc. Next choose the language, then click the Utilities menu and open Disk Utility. Next choose the internal hard drive on the left pane then click the Erase tab. Click the Security Options and choose Zero Out Data. This is more than adequate unless you have the launch codes for Obama is carrying around. . Click OK, then click Erase and after it's done exit Disk Utility and continue with the Install to do a fresh install of OS X. After it's done you've got a pretty fresh machine and all your information has been securely wiped off.

If you have transferred or Downloaded iPad Apps on your Mac you will find them in iTunes on your Mac....
Open iTunes and in iTunes on left hand corner where Music is return you should see a drop down button next to it and once you click on that drop down button you will see Movies/Tv Shows/Applications, you need to select Applications here and you will find all your downloaded iPad Applications. And as they are made only for iOs devices that cannot be run on your Mac.

New iMac - set up question

I'm just about to take delivery of a new iMac.
At the moment I use Logic 8 on a Core Duo Mac Mini with all the Content (Loops Jam Pacs) stored on an external Hard Drive, which I also record to. My interface is a MOTU 896.
The Mac Mini runs fine in every respect - no crashes or glitches - recording with Logic is fine. I play classical guitar so the silent Mini has been great. I usually have 2 audio tracks for the guitar and a couple of midi tracks for strings etc - keeping it all simple.
Questions:-
a) given that all is OK on the Mac Mini - could I simply Migrate my account and applications to the new iMac using the Migration assistant? Will this also move my MOTU and M-Audio(keyboard)Drivers?
or
b) If I opt for a clean install of Logic 8 onto the iMac, how do I access the content from the External Hard Drive, or should I re-install the content as well as part of the installation?
c) I was planning on daisychaining the MOTU through the hard drive to the iMac. This works fine on the Mac Mini. Would I be better off having Logic and the Content stored on the iMac (now that I will have plently of space) and also record to the iMac - or should I keep the set up as is with the Content stored on the External and also keep Recording to the External Drive?

Go into your system preferences and click on the sharing, up top you will see the computer name click on it and change it.

That kind of sounds like, improperly or not fully seated ram module(s). Try reinstalling them again, pushing with both thumbs real hard.

What do you mean it doesn't have sound? If it's a new machine call AppleCare, you have 90 days of support via telephone and can find the number in your owner's manual.

Aperture... how do I get my new iMac to notify me when my export is complete?

Hello! I've been an Aperture user for years. I just loaded it onto my new iMac (with Lion) and notice that it no longer notifies me when my exports are finished. The Aperture icon used to hop up and down along with a button would appear that told me the export was complete. I also notice the folders with my images no longer tell me how many images are in the folder. Any clues? Can't find a thing in my preferences to fix this. Thanks for any help you can offer.

In Aperture 3.2.2, the option to alert when the export is complete is available when you are choosing the export destination (the box will stay checked for future exports):
You can see how many items are in a folder or album or project either by hovering over folders albums and projects in the sidebar, or by choosing the option to display the number of items in Preferences > Appearance:

Just wondering I got a new imac yesterday, love it so far but just got my internet sorted and when i did the inital registration I couldnt complete it, how can I get back to complete it?

When I came out of the registration, it said if you want to go back and finish there is an option in the mac somewhere you can go to....not a website you can visit

New iMac set-up problem

Just bought 1 iMac & have 2 more ordered to upgrade from OLD G4s. Tried Pondini's how to to set up from the old Mac but we get a message that the old does not have an OS X installed when trying to use firewire. What other options do we have? Need step-by-step for an idiot (me) instructions as we have no IT people.

Ensure that you've repaired the disks on the Tiger boxes and are running 10.4.11. If not, download and reinstall the 10.4.11 COMBO. I don't recall anyone not having success using the setup assistant. See Best Practices for more info, although Pondini's tip should have everything you need.

New iMac too slow to use Word - can it be fixed or should I get my money back ?

Just bought an iMac to replace my PC and find that it cannot run Word 2011.
Even the most basic things -such as transforming key strokes into text on screen take seconds. Formatting takes an age.
I see numerous other postings with the same problem - but no solutions - only other 'users' saying that they have no problem.
It seems to me that this is such a serious defect that the computer is not actually fit for purpose. Before I take it back to the shop and ask for it to be replaced has anyone out there got a solution. ?

The only sultion is to Wipe the drive and reinstall Mt Lion as sometimes the factory install isn't right.
But in the end you should not have to do that on a NEW system. So If it were me I'd take it back for a refund and either get another or something else.
