New iMac using supplied Mac Mouse
When I was using my iBook with Tiger, I used a Logitech Mouse which had left and right clickers and scroll wheel. Now I'm using the supplied white Mac mouse (single click with scroll) that came with my iMac, and Leopard. With the Logitech, I could highlight a word holding down the left click, then move the cursor to the highlighted word, and hold down the right clicker, and a scroll down had dictionary. When moved to dictionary, and let go, the dictionary would show that word. Also, if I held down the right click on a blank area of a web page, the scroll down had "back" and "forward" etc., thus I could go back a page. Now I have to move my cursor to the arrows at the top left of the page to go backward, or forward. Do I have to get my old Logitech out again to do this, or is there some kind of set up that would enable the above shortcuts? Thank you for any help. pdm
The Apple mouse does have left and right click, but you have to enable it in the "Keyboard & Mouse" system preferences. (If right-click is not enabled, you can press Control while left-clicking.) When using right-click on the Apple mouse, be sure your finger is lifted from the left side of the mouse.

you don't need OS X install-disk, but I strongly recomend to burn a Win 7 disk. You may have some problems with installing it from a USB Flash :)

Installing windows 7 on the NEW iMac 21.5inch mac

im thinking on buying the new iMac 21.5 mac (link Below) but im wondering how would you install windows 7 on there through bootcamp.
The Mac doesnt have a disk drive and Apple USB Super Drive connects via USB which the Mac will not read well trying to install windows.

I transferred about 400 gigs of data from my MacBook Pro to my new iMac using Migration Assistant, but can't find any of my data on Finder. I'm thinking that the data got transferred but not cataloged. Finder shows about 400 gigs of my hard drive being used, but the files it shows don't come anywhere close to 400 gigs. How can I find out what is really on the hard drive and how can I access my MacBook files I transferred?
I suggest that you start over, boot into Internet recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, erase and reformat the HD with one partition and GUID option, quit Disk Utility, restore the OS, and on first boot, use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the MacBook, following the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide. If that doesn't solve your problem, contact Apple's Support. If they recommend the same steps, I'd opt to return the machine and get another (you can do that the first 14 days you own it, no questions asked).

How can I increase the speed of importing audio cds into my iTunes library? On my old Dell PC cds imported at 30-35x, but my new iMac (using the Apple Superdrive) is trudging along at 8-10x. Any suggestions?

Not sure you can do anything about this. I get vaiable import speeds - a lot depends on the actual disc. The Read Write spec is 24X but I rarely see speeds close to this.

Does the new iMac use the same memory as the previous?
Right now i have the 24" 2.16ghz iMac and i am considering selling it to buy the newest 24" 2.4 ghz version. My question is, do they use the same ram? The apple specs page for the new imac says it uses 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) which is what i thought i had in my current iMac. For some reason though on crucial's website it says the new imac uses 800mhz ram, i would likely trust apples specs but i just wanted to confirm if it is the same so i know if i can keep a 1gb stick or not to put in the new one. Thanks!
By using the manual method (Apple > iMac > 2.8 GHz) I only got PC2-5300 (667 MHz) RAM (although I do get PC2-6400 RAM for the 2.4 GHz model - but you probably won't benefit from the performance boost, just like my Mini has now 1 GB of 400 MHz DDR RAM running at 333 MHz). And yes, the new iMac uses the same RAM as the older one.
I'd suggest you visit an Apple store and see the new iMac for yourself though. Your iMac still seems like a pretty good computer, and the 2.4 GHz processor and/or Radeon HD 2600 card may not warrant the upgrade price, especially if you don't like the glossy screen (which is reportedly much glossier than the MacBook's display). -
Porting CS3 from old Mac OS 10.4.11 to a new iMac using Mac OS 10.8.4?
I had been using CS3 on a Mac Mini running it on OS 10.4.11. The programs had been installed on one of my two external HD's. I upgraded my computer equipment to a new iMac running OS10.8.4, which also has both of my HD's connected to it. I also am running Acrobat Pro 11.0.03 as a separate, stand-alone program because I was initially under the impression that CS6 had some problems with Mountain Lion that did not include the latest version of Acrobat Pro. So I purchased that program separately and did not purchase CS6.
When I tried to run the other CS3 programs, I first received a message that Java JRE was not installed. I followed the instructions on the Adobe website and installed Java for my current OS. Now when I attempt to run the programs I get a dialogue box message that says "you cannot use the product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT administrator (that would be me) or Adobe customer support for help."
Before I go through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling from my disks, I have a couple of questions:
1. If I go through the uninstall - install steps with my original disks, will the software work under the new Mac OS 10.8.4?
2. What is the problem that the uninstall - install step is supposed to be solving?
3. Since I have the newest version of Acrobat Pro already installed, can I avoid installing that particular program if the answer to question #1 is affirmative? Will installing the other components of CS3 corrupt any of the support files for Acrobat 11.0.03?

You can buy CS6 but not at an upgrade price or move to Creative Cloud.

I turned on my new iMac for the first time today and set it up using a backup on Time Machine from my old Macbook, which is running OS X 10.9.5 and has iPhoto version 8.1.2. When I went to open iPhoto on the new computer, it said I had to update the photos to work with the new version. Now, my photos from part of July 26, 2014 and onwards do not show up in the new iPhoto. The albums and spaces for the photos are there, but only a gray triangle with exclamation point shows in their place. Every other photo from 2003 to half of July 26, 2014 appears to have updated without issue. None of the fixes/rebuilds I tried worked. When I open up TimeMachine, it has no backups that I can use for the new computer (perhaps, because I wanted to still have access to use my old backups for my old laptop so told it not to use them for the new computer). My most recent half a year's photos are the ones I need the most. How do I make them appear on my new iMac?
Do you still have the old Mac? Then check, if the iPhoto Library has the newer events from July 26 onwards.
If yes, copy the iPhoto library from the old Mac to the new mac by connecting both computers. And then try to upgrade the copied library.
If you no longer have access to the old mac, you could try to inherit the backup of the old Mac and try to restore the iPhoto Library from it.

Brand new iMac 21", freeze. Mouse movies, but does nothing
We just opened a brand new iMac 21" literally yesterday (purchased within the last three weeks). It was on for about an hour with no problems whatsoever. Then, while transferring photos to iPhoto, the system interface randomly froze. You can move the mouse around the screen, but it does nothing. You can't click anything. Hard resets/shutdowns result in the system rebooting back to the desktop like normal, but the mouse stays in this semi-frozen state. You can movie the pointer, but you can't actually interact with anything to fix the problem. Nothing brings it out of this state. We're not terribly experienced with Macs (new owner) and also snowed in to boot.
Has anybody encountered problems like this before? How do I fix this freeze?
Message was edited by: ThirdMarioBroMy suggestion with a new Mac that is having those problems is to take it back to the Apple Store and ask them to fix it. Beside allowing them to solve the problem that will also give them the chance to document the problem with your Mac just in case it should happen again.

I am trying to install Windows on a new iMac w/3TB Fusion drive. The system crashed on my first attempt but appears to have partitioned the drive correctly before crashing??? So, what size partition does Windows 8 need to operate effectively? Is "more" better??? or just over-kill? And, has anyone installed Winodow 8 on an iMac...and how did it work? Would apps like "Parallel Desktop" or "VM Ware Fusion" be a good idea and troubleless?
I will try again but not too confident that it may get worse before it gets better.

P.S. I configured this iMac with the i7 processor 3.5GHz with Turbo Boost to 3,9GHz. When I select "About this Mac" it diplays my i7 processor as a 3.4GHz instead. Do you think they ran out of the i7 3.5GHz and shoved a i5 3.4Ghz in the iMac to meet deliver schedule??? I there a way to check the real-time speed of my processor??.It depends on your uses. here is what happened, this morning when i started the new iMac I realized that i had in fact managed to complete the migration
upon start-up, the new iMac gave me the option to choose whether to log-in as the old Me (i.e. previous account in old iMac) or the new me
If choosing the old, I can access my old iPhoto and iTunes material
If I log-in as the new me, I am in the new iMac and do not know how to access neither iPhoto nor iTunes libraries
Question 1: Is there a way to access both libraries (iPhoto and iTunes) logging-in using the new credentials?
Eventually I would love to get rid of this double users accounts as I do not find it too convenient, I would rather consolidate the important data (i.e. pictures and music) in the new account
Question 2: Alternatively, if I were to follow the tip you gave me and forget about the migration altogether, can you help me locate the iPhoto library in the old iMac so that I can drag it as a single entity from the old Mac? could you also explain what I need to do to move it to the pictures folder of the new iMac?

Hi All,
I only can get stock computers in COMPUSA or authorized resellers in PR.
Which one do you recommend for Aperture, the new iMac 24" or the Mac Pro? It looks they both use the same video card...Sadly I have just asked Apple to take back my mac book pro 17" 2.16 because aperture was just to slow and it became annoying, after any adjustments to a photo the loupe tool would jump and jerk across the screen or the patch tool would do the same after around 3-4 patched dust marks, I came across to a mac purely for aperture, which incidently I think aperture is a great tool, if it would only run faster. If the MBP 17" 100gb 7200rpm HD 2 gb Ram and Radion X1600 with 256 mb memory has problems running this software what hardware setup was this programme actually built for.
I will have to stay with my steam driven dell pc until I can make my mind up what to do, I must admit I am impressed by the mac itself and I found the service from apple outstanding, this laptop is my second machine in 3 weeks, first one had a warped top apple took it back and sent another one immediately, having also explained my problem and dissatisfaction with the second they have taken it back with full refund without any hassle whatsoever.

Trying to transfer data to new imac using Pondini
Just bought a new iMac and I'm trying to use Pondini's instructions to transfer my old 10.5.8 data to Lion using Firewire.
On the new iMac, when I select Transfer from Another Mac, it doesn't give me a Firewire option. It only gives me a wireless option?

To use FireWire target disk mode
Make sure that the target computer is turned off.
If you are using an Apple portable computer such as a PowerBook or MacBook as the target computer, plug in its AC power adapter.
Use a FireWire cable to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer can be powered on.
Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
When you are finished copying files, locate the target computer's hard disk icon on the desktop of the host computer and drag it to the Trash or choose Eject (or Put Away) from the File menu.
Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
Unplug the FireWire cable.
