New iMacs don't have a Mini Display
I just recently baught a new 27" iMac and I was wondering since there does not seem to be a MiniDisplay port, how would I turn my iMac into a Monitor for HDMi devices, like in previous Models which was possible through HDMi to Mini Display convertors.
Ok, found the answer.

Check out the wording though...
iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) support Target Display Mode via a Thunderbolt cable, when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
Looks like you can use the 21.5 as a target display monitor also!

Do I have a mini display port?
Hello - would anyone be able to confirm if I have a mini display port? I think I only have Thunderbolt but am really not sure, am clearly quite silly!
Would appreciate help. I have an iMac which I bought in Sept 2011 and it uses Mac OS X......but you will already know this. Oh, and it is 21"
Thanks
PandoraOkay - I have a feeling that the mini display and thunderbolt port are the same??

I have a new iMac. I have set up a user page for myself, for my wife and an administrator page. My question is my wife needs files from my user page transferred to her page. What's the easiest way?
I've done this by dragging files from my user page to her drop box. In Finder, drag the required files and hover over the hard disc icon in the navigation bar on the left. As you hover, it will open another finder window showing the contents. Work your way down these windows into <Her username | Public | Dropbox>. Drop the files into the dropbox. She can then retrieve them from her user page.
Good luck,

Why is there an arrangement button in Displays when I don't have an external display attached to my MacBook Pro?
I can't even get my pictures from iPhoto to my external hard drive I just bought.
Quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library to the external drive as an intact single entity - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and point iPhoto to the new location - test the library fully and then delete the library from the internal drive
I'm about ready to just get a disposable camera and call it good.
No problem if that makes you happy
My hard drive is so full I keep getting messages that it's almost full and won't work right if I don't delete something.
That is correct - you must have 10% or a minimum of 10GB of free space for efficient and safe operation
I'm TRYING but nothing is working. It's very frustrating, isn't it?
Maybe if you would give some details on what you are "trying" and what is "not working" someone could help - above is a specific answer to the specific question on how to move the iPhoto library
Not to mention, the CD drive has a disc in it that won't come out. I'm not anywhere near an Apple dealer, and my MacBook is under warranty, so I can't go anywhere but Apple.
I would post that in the MacBook forum rather than the iPhoto forum

I just bought a new IMac. I have photoshop elements installed on my old IMac and would like to move it to the new one. How can i do this?
Unfortunately, adobe doesn't have photoshop elements 6 available for download, as far as i know, so your best bet is to either get an usb dvd drive or use an computer with a dvd drive and copy the contents of the pse 6 dvd to somethiing like
a flash drive and then copy the contents from that drive to your new computer.
Do you still have your older mac and it has a dvd drive?
You can share files between the two using airdrop or an ethernet cable.

I have the mini display port cable to hdmi. When I connect I can get audio but on the video I get the display auro screen and can't get my actual display to show as that is not what shows on my display. How can I fix this?
System Preferences>Displays
There is a little white bar. When you have your TV connected, move the white bar to the other display. Your main desktop is now the TV screen -
Hi - I recently purchased a new iMac. I have a registered cs5 design premium package which is an upgrade - I have no disc for cs4 but have the qualifying serial number for it. I have installed cs5 via download onto my iMac but it is not accepting the serial number. Can anybody help. Does anybody else think that Adobe will loose a lot of customers by not providing any chat or call support for cs5 users??
You can support serial number and activation support.

When I try to play videos on Apple's website, "missing plug-ins" appears. The same happens when I try to play Apple trailers. Other "users" on the same iMac don't have this problem.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Your solution worked straight away. I've been battling with this for weeks'

I have purchased a newer mid 2011 iMac for my wife to replace her dead 17"iMac from 2006. It was running Snow Leopard. The new iMac has Yosemite and when I go into Migration Assistant it tells me that the OS X is too old, implying that I cannot get the data from it. How can I migrate this data to the new iMac? I have the hard drive removed and in an external enclosure connected to the new iMac.
Thanks,
Bill StratmanSince any OS since Lion does not support Rosetta or PPC applications, you may want to check her apps for compatibility.
Have you tried to follow all the instructions here:
OS X Yosemite: Transfer your info from a computer or storage device
Also, as a general note: when you got the 2011 iMac did it have the original OS installed as required by the SLA? The seller is to remove any OS version obtained at the app store since the license is not transferable - did he do that? If not, as the OS download is tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it, you will not be able to update apps or reinstall the OS, so may I suggest you do this step now before you start porting over all the files. Use Internet Recovery: Hold Command + Option + R while restarting/rebooting until you see a spinning globe and a progress bar. After 2 - 10 minutes, you'll be connected to Apple's servers and see a Utilities window. Go to Disk Utility and choose erase your drive; once finished, go back to the window and choose to reinstall OS X. This should install a fresh original OS version which you can then update and tie to your wife's Apple ID. -

I updated my 2nd gen apple tv and after completing the downloading and installing the software I got an itunes picture that means i have to connect it to iTunes,, can i skip this ? coz i don't have the mini usb cable
No, if you have that picture it means the update went wrong and you need to restore via iTunes.

Hi, As stated, I updated my iPhone 4s to version 6.1 and can't make any calls now. Restoring it to a prior state doesn't rollback the iOS version, so I'm stuck with a brick now. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thank you.
