New image appears on desktop then keeps flashing- see atached shot

When browser opens a large square box with a shaded fox appears and a small image at the left says "Click me" as it keeps flashing. The screen itself keeps flickering and when I try the help section it too keeps jumping. I scanned for malware but this did not make a difference. I deleted then replaced Firefox but got the same results.

If there are problems with the snippets on the about:home page or you otherwise do not want to see those snippets then you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page.
Delete the storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set.
You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder.
You need to close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Desktop screen keeps flashing black and dock has disappeared. iMAC X Yosemite 10.10.1

Recently I updated my iMac to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. All was operating smoothly for a few weeks until one day i started up and logged in my dock was nowhere to be seen. The desktop screen started flashing black replacing my desktop image. None of my desktop icons disappear when this happens. screen keeps flashing black every few seconds. Also the dock has disappeared.
I have restarted in safe boot and it makes no changes.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

Can Disk Utility make a "New Image" from a desktop copy of a DVD?

I have not been able to get Disk Utility to make "new images" of a couple of DVDs. For one of the DVDs, it may have something to do with a hyphen in the title. I haven't a clue why I'm failing with the second of the two DVDs. (Previously, I've had no trouble with about a dozen DVDs so far.)
Several members of this discussion group recommended me to copy&paste or drag&drop the files from a DVD to a new folder (say on the desktop), and then to drag the resulting new folder into the box in Disk Utility, and then to make a disk image using Disk Utility.
(Note: While I believe the original DVDs are not encrypted, I ran an experiment to make double sure, by using MacTheRipper first to produce folders containing clean files.)
However, when I drag the new folder into the box in Disk Utility, and let go of the mouse button, then the folder does not stay in Disk Utility window, but instead springs back to the desktop.
How can I get Disk Utility to make new images from the new desktop folders?

As a partially successsful work around:
For one of the two original DVDs - which has only about 3.7GB on it - I can sometimes (only sometimes) succeed in doing without Disk Utility simply by dragging the audio and video files from the new desktop folder onto a blank DVD, and then burning that DVD. However, in an average of about two out of every three attempts so far, my Mac rejects the new disk as unusable during the burn process.
For the other original DVD - which has about 4.36GB on it - the contents of the new desktop folder won't fit onto a blank DVD. It then gets messy - shrinking the files - so I'd like to avoid all of that by getting DIsk Utility to work properly.

For the answer, see the following excerpt from my own posting dated 2 May 2006, i.e.:
"I finally found out for myself (from Disk Utility Help) that to make a new image from a file/folder, rather than dragging the folder to the Disk Utility pane, in the top menu bar in Disk Utility you select Images/New/Image from Folder."

If you have a POP3 account this means that another "client" email program has retrieved the messages and deleted the messages from the server. You need to change the server settings on that device to leave the messages on the server.
If you have an IMAP or MS Exchange account this means that someone read the messages on another device and either deleted them or moved them to another folder. Or there is an automated script that moved them to another folder.

After updates, new icons appear on desktop

I have minimal knowledge of computers and their processes. Except for minor issues like this one, my new Mac works beautifully.
SITUATION: Three icons -- carrier.ram, carrier-1.ram, and reference.exe.download -- have recently appeared on my desktop. I don't know where they came from or what they do or what they are. I suspect that they appeared during weekly updates, but I didn't notice them then. The reference icon appeared first, several weeks ago. The carrier icons appeared yesterday, I suspect, but I don't know for sure, because I don't routinely inventory my desktop.
Question 1: Would an update leave such things behind, on the desktop?
Question 2: What should I do with them? At this rate, my desktop will eventually be filled with icons that, so far as I know, I won't use.
- Throw them into the Trash?
- Move them to a folder somewhere?
- Allow them to accumulate?
Question 3: Where can I go to find out what these icons represent?

1) Nope. Update wouldn't leave such things behind.
Those are probably files that your browser put there. I think the default location (at least for Safari) is to save downloaded files to the desktop. You can change the download location in the browser preferences so your desktop doesn't get cluttered.
The .ram files are Real Audo Media.
The reference.exe.download is an incomplete downloaded file.
2) Delete them. Since you don't know what they are you won't miss them. I have my downloads all going into a folder called 'Browser Downloads.'

PDF icon images appear on desktop, but not in folders?

I just updated to Windows 7. Before the update I could only view pdf icons on the desktop and inside folders would be a screenshot pdf icon image of the file. This was very helpful when using a lot of pdf files.
NOW, after installing Windows 7, I have the exact opposite. I can see PDF image icons on my desktop, but when I go into a folder, I get the standard Adobe pdf red-white icon (no image).
Has anyone experienced this? Ive googled this and Im not the only one with this problem. Has anyone found a fix for this?

Update: I forgot to add that PowerPoint files, jpegs and bmp files still work and you can still see the preview images. Just not PDFs.

graffiti - thanks for the reply. I did as you suggested but it didnt work. Now some icons are showing up but I dont know why nor do I know if this is a adobe issue or a windows 7 issues. While googling it looks like each side is blaming the other. Here is a screen shot. Some icons appear and one does not. I opened it and re-saved it but still doesnt show a thumbnail.

Deploy a image by Task Sequence - then can't see it in software centre after a rebuild.

i've made a task sequence for installing an OS, that works fine, i've created a collection, added my machine in there gone to the software library --> task sequence --> created a deployment and targeted the collection.
Log onto the machine in that collection open up software centre, i rebuild the machine using that task sequence, but then when i log back into the machine the TS isn't there anymore.
i've checked to see if the machine is still in the SCCM device collection (it is) i've checked to see if it's the right machine and not some duplicate (it isn't) i've made sure there is only one machine with that name in the all systems collection and they
have the same SCCM ID.
I want people to be able to rebuild their machines whenever they want to.

How do you make an image appear by clicking on a link?

I have a div set up as a box for my images.
Underneath I have put a several divs, each of which have numbers in them...01.....02....03....04
I would like to know how to make it so that when you click on 01, an image appears in the box, when you click on 02, the other image disappears and then new image appears, click on three....etc....etc
What's the best way to go about this?

This isn't quite what you've described but you could alter it so it works.
On the div give it an attribute class="rollover"
Then in the stylesheet
.rollover {
display:inline-block;
cursor:default;
.rollover:hover img {visibility:hidden;}
A way you could alter this is to nest a div inside (over the top of your image) that has a solid fill (background-color) and on the rollover:hover
get rid of the background or hide the div....
Hope you follow... I've not really spent time explaining this in detail, presuming you've some knowledge.
(I so hate how the i beam doesn't show in Adobe's topic reply widget.. or intermittently... it's appeared again... Firefox.)

When editing externally (Smart Photo Editor) , LR5 does not stack, show or updates the new image in the catalog

I am using the latest version of Smart Photo Editor to edit in external editor from LR5. On LR4 the new image appeared in the catalog, not so with LR5. I have to go to the folder and Sync it so the image appears. Then all my other images are compiled and i will only see that one image which is the "latest import". MAybe something on the settings?

i found LR5 the most bug infested LR version ever.
i "use" it only as test setup.
real work i still do with LR 4.4.

nope.. in this forum you will only hear that this is not such a big issue and will be fixed soon.

DW can't find new image?!

Hi all,
I'm making changes in a website using DW, which include
adding some new images. I edited the image using photoshop and move
them into the file where all the images for the website are.
Strange thing is the new images appear in the assets (also other
places while I was trying to insert them into the page), but
there's no preview and when I click insert, the image appears
broken in DW.
I tried anyway to upload the page, together with all
dependent files. The new image appear broken online too.
Weird thing is this seems only affect new images, the old
ones on the page are unaffected?!
Can anybody help me?

Makes no difference. If you have defined a default images
folder, DW will
copy it there without prompting.

My finer keep flashing or flickering

I don't know why my desktop finder keeps flashing / flickering every 4 mins after I upgraded to the 10.9 system on my laptop. It makes me anoying.

It sounds like a failing graphic card circuit. Take it in to a Genius Bar and let them evaluate it. The eval if free, and if you're under Applecare they'll fix it.

I've had a problem installing Adobe Flash Player; also with Firefox. Tried to download a new FF; it goes crazy! keeps repeating an opening page! Now I don't have FF installed, or Flashplayer, and I think these problems are connected. Help!

Mac OSX 10.5.8 system. Problems have been ongoing with the Firefox I had installed a while ago: would open browser in Safari, and FF would take over; keep asking me to personalize my browser program. In truth, Firefox was kind of "taking over", and I wasn't happy with it. Usually open the internet in Safari.
Present problems started with trying to download, install and open a few new games. Kept telling me I needed to install Adobe Flashplayer. I could download it, but it wouldn't install. Downloaded both the Flashplayer installer AND the Flashplayer uninstaller a number of times. Today, I decided to get rid of the Firefox on my hard drive and download a newer version - then try again to download Flashplayer and install. The new FF download just kept opening a new browser page.

When browsing a new library that I created and exported onto an external hard drive, the browser shows dotted lines around grey rectangles, no images. When I double click on a rectangle, the image appears, but all the other rectangles remain empty - no image. How do I get images to appear in the browser rectangles? I am viewing this on a second computer (an older intel duo iMac), not the one I created the library on (a MacBook Pro). Both computers have Aperture 3.2.4 installed. When I return the external to the MacBook, all images appear in browser rectangles. What's happening on the iMac?

You may have a problem with the permissions on your external volume. Probably you are not the owner of your library on the second mac.
If you have not already done so, set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag on your external volume. To do this, select the volume in the Finder and use the Finder command "File > Get Info" (or ⌘I).
In the "Get Info" panel disclose the "Sharing & Permissions" brick, open the padlock, and enable the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag. You will have to authentificate as administrator to do this.
Then run the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" on this library and repair the permissions. To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the ⌥⌘-key combination while you double click your Aperture Library. Select "Repair Permissions" and run the repair; then repeat with "Repair Database". Do this on the omputer where you created the library and where you can see the thumbnails.
Then check, if you now are able to read the library properly on your iMac.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Has any of this been tried?
