New imaged machines fail to complete reboot after install

New imaged machines fail to complete reboot after install of 10.4.9 image
Running off both 10.4.9 Server and a 10.3.9 Server machines imaged from the same disk image and different disk images fail to reboot after imaging is complete. All machines go through various stages of reboot some initial most all the way to waiting for finder to boot up on desktop. Nothing is wrong with the items, installed the entire image is installed if you looking at the machines via firewire. All .nbi sets were created under 10.3.9 (to avoid 10.4.9 problems) all disk images with Disk Utility all .nbi with 10.3.9 Network Image utility.
Anyone any clues been driving me nuts for about a week and I have 500 ibooks to image.
Also the reference machines for the images are same ibooks that will be imaged, so its the same platform.
various   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

All is the same for me except I used a 10.4.9 server only to create the disk image using Disk utility, and all other work ison a 10.3.9 server. Greay or blue screen on reboot otherwise machines look fine.
I am having this same issue....
Order of events as follows...
Build image on source mac (10.4.9)
Create image on server for netinstall from source mac
(10.4.9)
Set Netinstall image on server via netboot (10.4.9)
Install Netinstall image on target mac via netboot on
server (10.4.9)
Installs fine and says successful.....Apon reboot all
i get is the grey screen with the apple and spinning
icon....Sits there and doesn't change....
On further inspection I notice that there are things
that are missing off target mac
very strange....Sounds like a broken System Image

  • Fix for continuous reboot after installing Service Pack 3 in Windows XP

After contacting HP Technical Support and speaking to a supervisor we were able to solve the problem of Windows continuously rebooting after installing SP3. Here are the steps that fixed the problem with my HP Pavilion running on an AMD processor. The steps are actually fairly straight forward and easy....
Issue: The computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3
Computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3 on AMD systems. The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.
    Cause:
On HP computers, the same Windows installation disc image for Intel processor based PC's is deployed for the AMD processor based computers as well. Because the original installation image for both Intel and AMD is the same, all have the intelppm.sys driver installed and running. That driver provides power management on Intel-based computers. On an AMD-based computer, amdk8.sys provides the same functionality for power management.
    Symptoms:
Ordinarily, having intelppm.sys running on an AMD-based computer appears to cause no problems. However, on the first reboot after a Service Pack 3 installation, it causes a big problem. The computer either fails to boot, or crashes with a STOP error code of 0x0000007e.
You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. In order to get the error message, you need to set an option during startup. To do so, open the windows advanced menu by tapping the f8 key on startup. Then select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option.
    Solution:
If you have an AMD-based computer, however, you do not need the intelppm.sys driver and can disable it. There are three methods in order to do this.
Step 1: Please try to log on the system in safe mode.
    1. While using Safe mode open the command prompt....  Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
Run the following command in the command prompt just like it's typed: sc config intelppm start= disabled
    Step 2:
If the issue persists, please try to log on or boot the system in recovery console (refer to the web document)
    2. Using recovery console:
If you booted into the recovery console, from a command prompt, type: disable intelppm
Step 3: Please check in registry.
    3. Using windows registry:
    1. Run regedit
    2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    3. From the File menu, select "Load hive"
    4. Navigate to %systemdriver%\Windows\System32\Config on the dead system and select the file name System
    5. Name it something you can remember, such as "horked"
    6. Navigate to horked\ControlSet001\Services\IntelPPM
    7. Double click the Start value and set it to 4
    8. If you did what I did and completely messed things up by running a disk check previously, navigate to ControlSet001\Control\SessionManager. Open the BootExecute value and clear out the autochk entries.
    9. Repeat steps 6-8 for the other control sets.
    10. Reboot

For future reference: Service pack 3 Installation steps:
Before installing the service pack 3 update, please follow the steps listed above and save yourself much time and effort.
To uninstall service pack 3, I suggest that you uninstall it from add/remove programs.
    Step 1:
Uninstall service pack 3 from add/remove programs:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Select Run.
    3. Type appwiz.cpl in the run field.
    4. Click OK.

    8. It will pop up the message stating that "Are you sure you want to remove the programs".
    9. Click Yes. It will help you to remove or uninstall the installed programs from add and remove programs.
Step 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform system restore and then try to install the service pack 3 after performing the steps mentioned above in regards to removing the intelppm.sys Driver.

I hope this helps someone who is having this problem. It sure took me a minute to get it all figured out. :0)

Still useful as of 12/30/11. Have ten Lenovo 5042 computers with downgrade licenses to run XP and have a ghosted image from another Lenovo 5042 having and Intel cpu. My target computers all have AMD cpus in them and the image would continuously reboot on
    the AMD computers.
Used method 1 and it cleared the problem instantly, many thanks for the post and the time and effort it took to dig up the answer..

my new imac won't operate youtube even after installing the latest flash

    Problem solved!
I had downloaded and then installed Flash, and restarted.
The problem?  I was expecting Youtube to work as on my old PC, where you get a little pop-up menu at the bottom of the TV screen to play. pause etc.  That won't happen on a Mac until  you click on the oblong that says Flash in the middle - I didn't know that!
    Hooray!

  • Time machine fails to complete/maintain a backup

Time machine is driving me nuts!:
The last successful backup was one month ago.  Since that time it seems to have been stuck in a perpetual loop of trying but never successfully completing a backup, no matter what I try.  Here is the history:
I bought a new iMac 6 months ago with OS X Lion (1Gb HDD).  Set up Time Machine over wireless network with a 1Gb WD MyBookLive attached to a new BT Homehub 3 router (UK).  Lion successfully backed up my system (total size approximately 159Gb) over a two day period, but every 4-6 weeks Time Machine would tell me it needed to create a new backup. Frustratingly, this meant that the backup history never stretched very far in the Time machine 'starfield window' but at least I had a backup of some sort.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion 3 months ago, in the hope that it would fix the error and, briefly, things were going well.  Time Machine didn't need to create a new backup from scratch after upgrade, and continued to add to the existing backups & history for 2 months.  Then i got the dreaded 'Time Machine needs to create a new backup' message and, 1 month later, it hasn't been able to finish the process yet!
After about 6 days it was about 30% complete (just over 50Gb) which didn't sound right given how long it previously took.  I stopped the backup using the TM dialog box , reset my mac, router and MyBookLive and started again.  Time machine automatically started again, and after several days of crawling I got the message that the 'sparsebundle was already in use'.  I followed the suggested tips regarding unmounting the drive, reset everything and tried again.  TimeMachine took about another 4 days to get to about 30Gb, then stopped itself with the message that the backup had failed.   I tried deleting the preferences files for TM as several sources suggest, but this doesn't seem to have helped, TM just takes days to crawl along and then terminates saying either simply that the 'backup has failed' or that the sparsebundle is already in use.  About 5 days ago I used the WD browser-based administration tools to create a new, separate, share for TM (presumably because this ensures that there can be no record of any previous backups on the backup device which TM sees) and set up TM from scratch.  All seemed well, it took only 23 hours to back up 103Gb - then it failed, saying that the 'sparsebundle is already in use'.  I set the backup away again overnight and it managed about 12Gb before the same message appeared.  TM now estimates 5 days to backup the remaining 40Gb.
Somebody please tell me what is going wrong and how to get TM to actually complete a full backup then maintain it without constant intervention!!!
    Some further points worth mentioning:
    1) My iMac is located too far from my router to backup using ethernet cable.
    2) I have used iStumbler to determine that the signal strength is 36% (surely strong enough?) with only 3% noise. (802.11n Gigabit Ethernet).
    3) WD MyBookLive plugged into the GigE port on the router, and firmware is up to date.
    4) I've searched Pondini's tips, from start to finish looking for a solution, as well as the Western Digital and BT forums, but none of the common solutions seem to work.
    Help! and thanks.

Thanks, Linc, for your response.  I will also seek advice from the manufacturers of the other devices, however, I fear that every party will foot the blame at the door of others.
I don't agree with your suggestion that this shouldn't be my only backup, given the marketing literature of both Apple and Western Digital.  Apple state on their website:
"Connect the drive, assign it to Time Machine, and start enjoying some peace of mind. Time Machine automatically backs up your entire Mac, including system files, applications, accounts, preferences, music, photos, movies, and documents."
Similarly, Western Digital state about their MyBook Live:
"Mac users can utilize all the features of Apple Time Machine backup software to protect their data."
So where, I wonder, does the fault lie?  At the end of the day I am a home user and 'consumer' - just your average Joe looking for a robust home computing solution, not an IT boffin with an in-depth understanding of the nuts and bolts.  I expect both products to do what they say on the box.  Not surprisingly BT (the supplier of the router) state "The wireless 'N' technology in the BT Home Hub ensures you get a more reliable wireless connection throughout your home at all times."
To me, the advantage with my set up (should it ever work) is that, should the unthinkable happen and my computer is stolen, the likelihood of my backup device disappearing with it (as might be the case with a locally attached device)  is greatly reduced because the NAS is hidden away elsewhere.

  • 10.5.2 Feature causes machine to shutdown upon reboot after upgrade.

After upgrading to 10.5.2, the machine reboots, then after
a lengthy spinny gear on the up swing, it promptly turns itself off. Boot up several
times, same result. Boot into single user mode, run fsck, after clearing
the boot disk, fsck gives me an error of some non existent drive. New in 10.5.2:
"the computer will now shut down if an automatic disk repair does not succeed during startup."
Turns out i had an old entry in the /etc/fstab file ... silly me.
Anyway just passin that one on for all other forgetful folks.
    -miles

    OK,
I at least got the repair to work and it said there were no problems. I remember when I was waiting for the reboot after the 10.5.2 install that the fans went all crazy in my iMac and then settled down. I remember an issue a while back where this happened and it was because of the SMU... or System Management Unit. In older Macs it is called the PMU (Power Management Unit) so do a search for that if SMU doesn't bring anything up.
Resetting this usually resolves power related issues.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733
The above link describes how to do it on the iMac G5... you may need to do a search in Apple Support for your particular Mac. Be sure to use the search field on the left of the screen, not in the Apple.com navigation bar at the top right.
Did you also try resetting your PRAM? You do that by restarting (or starting) the Mac. Press and hold CommandOption+PR all at the same time. Keep them held down until the computer restarts again. I just did this (and still haven't reset my SMU) and the Mac has not shutdown on me yet.
If it does start to shutdown randomly again I will reset the SMU and let you know how it goes.
    Good Luck!!

  • Time Machine can't complete backups after upgrading to Yosemite

I use Time Machine to backup my 500GB MacBook Pro and a 500GB external HD to a 1TB Time Capsule (the laptop and external HD are no where near full). It worked fine until I upgraded my computer to Yosemite. Now I'm get an error message, "Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Time Capsule'. The backup disk needs 425.12 GB for the backup but only 134.74 GB are available. Select a larger backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding files."
How do I get Time Machine working again (without having to exclude files, of course)? Is there a better way then just wiping out the content of the Time Capsule ad backing up from scratch? Thanks!

  • Error on first reboot after install

    Hi folks,
Hopefully someone can help me with this.
I am new to Solaris and unix in general, please bear with me.
I downloaded the ISO images for 8 2/02 and burned the disks. I installed from Software disk 1. The install proceeded normally as far as I can tell (oddly the first time I attempted an install using the disk marked INSTALLATION (stupid me), the install failed, this time it worked, I think) but when the system reboots, and attempts to load the OS, I get this:
    "Starting Weblauncher....
Thye webstart launcher has terminated unexpectedly.
Press return key and a system reboot will take place on your machine"
I tried several reboots but, I continue to get the same message.
    Any suggestions?
This system has previously run both Win2000 server and Linux so, I am pretty sure my HW is ok.
    Thanks, Chris

  • T60 WLAN COMPLETELY GONE after installing latest Update Intel Wireless WiFi Link for Windows XP

I just reinstalled a T60 from scratch TWICE  to the point of updating  - Intel Wireless Wifi Link for Windows XP -
Just after that very latest Update (3.1.1.1 or so?)  there is no WLAN possible and I had to find out, that  a system restore is impossible either! (Simply does not work and asks me to get another point and try again)
I have a full backup done by acronis 2010 so that does not bother me so very much.
The point is that I like to WARN everybody to install that Update to their T60  e.g. 2008YWJ !!!
    (contains 3945AGB WLAN Module!)
After Updating U HAVE NO CHANCE TO REPAIR IT! U get always the problem signature
    szAppName: AcSvc.exe  szAppVer: 5.6.1.33  szModName: PfMgrApi.dll
    szModVer : 13.0.0.2  offset: 000d4912
and the System wants to report that stuff to MicroSoft...again and again...every time u
    start AccessConnections.
U can DEinstall AccessConnections and Intel Wireless Wifi Link for XP completely, reboot
and REinstall it....just 2 get the same messages and NO WLAN anymore.
I could not get out of this Driver Installation Hell until I did a complete Recovery Install and
I got back to Hell when System Update REinstalled Intel Wireless WiFi Link for XP
    automagically...;-(((
And again NO CHANCE to roll back, No chance to get rid of that annoying bug. This time I have an ACRONIS-Image so I can spare some time....
Somebody shoud really CHECK this, because it should not be possible to break down an completely NICE RUNNING Thinkpad THIS WAY just by updating it! As it took me abaout 12 Hours of Administration by now I
really would apreciate to help whomever to find out what the hell is responsible 4 this !!!
Why is XP System Restore not working on an T60 to roll back to Point b4 installation of this Update???
(I could  not use that Thinkvantage-System Recovery because it did not even get all its updates by the
time the system went in limbo during install! What i defintely can say is that it breaks at exactely
same point when Intel Wifi Updates is installed...
I do my Acronis Restore now and try 2 avoid this Update....;-(
if anybody KNOWS how to get that system 2 an earlier point of an install orgy i whould be thankful to get that information...
    I am keeping alive 12 Thinkpads here R40 R50 T42 T43 T60 T61p T400 T500 and  NEVER
experienced problems like this in many  years!
    cheers

    gal9000, welcome to the forum,
have you tried running windows system restore from safe mode? It usually works then because some anti-virus softwares will prevent it from running successfully from "normal" windows.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to reboot after installing Leopard

Unable to reboot, the fan keep on noising after the screen turns off for a long time, and the fan noise just keep on getting louder, and the computer did not start up again. This problem only happens after installing the Leopard.

    Good news!
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • Continues rebooting after installing system upgrade

    Hi
I have a HP voicetab 7. Today (10.02.2015) got a system upgrade. after installing the system upgrade, my tab is switching on but stuckup in the boot screen.
    what to do next.

    Hey @jagan_0018 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand after a failed update to KitKat your Slate 7 Voice Tab will not boot.
    Please try the following.
    1. Download the update.zip for your device and copy the file to the root directory of an empty micro-SD card (at least 1 GB, FAT 32 format). Do not unzip this file. You can find the update.zip for your device here: HP - Drivers & Downloads.
NOTE: You will need the exact model number to locate the correct package. There are multiple update.zip recovery images available. Ensure you select the correct download for your region. If your tablet does not boot after attempting to update you may need to try both the KitKat and JellyBean images. For information on finding your product or model number click here: Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
    2. Fully charge the tablet and then disconnect the power from the device.
    3. Power off the device.
If your tablets micro-SD slot is on the side or bottom of your tablet skip to step 5.
4a. Place the tablet on a flat surface, display panel side down, with the release notch towards you.
NOTE: Before positioning the tablet with the display panel facing down, make sure the work surface is clear of any foreign objects. Failure to follow this caution can result in damage to the display panel assembly.
4b. Remove the back cover. Use the release notch to remove the back cover.
4c. Insert the micro-SD memory card into the reader slot.
4d. Reverse the procedure detailed above to install the back cover.
    5. Insert the micro-SD card into the micro-SD card reader.
    6. Press and hold the volume up button and power button at the same time.
    7. When the HP logo appears on the screen, release all the buttons.
    8. When the Android system recovery menu appears, use the volume down button to highlight "apply update from external storage".
    9. Press the power button to validate "apply update from external storage".
    10. Use the volume down button to highlight the software recovery file, update.zip.
    11. Press the power button to select the update.zip file and launch the recovery.
NOTE: Wait until the entire recovery process finishes. The device might seem unresponsive at times (multiple reboots and black screens) when it is performing the update.
If this does not resolve the issue please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the following link to get the support number for your region: Phone Assist Worldwide.

  • My iPhone 6+ keeps rebooting after installing iOS 8.3

I have a 128Gb iPhone 6+. When I downloaded and installed iOS 8.3 via WIFI, it went through the usual download sequence and then started continually rebooting. After about 20 or so reboots, I got a white screen with a carrier signal on the top left, a location icon and a grayed-out bluetooth icon and the battery level indicator on the top right, and a curious "information" icon (a letter "i" in a circle) at the bottom right of the screen.
I tried tapping on the "i" but got no response. Then the iPhone went into the reboot cycle again. After several reboot cycles, I got the same white screen again. Then the iPhone again started rebooting and hasn't stopped.
My iPhone 6+ has been problematic since I installed iOS 8.1.2. Several random reboots (about 4 cycles, before the iPhone returned to "normal") and some other issues that I didn't document.
I brought the iPhone to the nearest authorized Apple repair center. They said that they could not find any problem and neither could they duplicate the issue I experienced. They recommended that the next time reboots happened that I should make a video of the error. Also, they recommended that I keep all of the apps updated (which I conscientiously do). So I decided to make a log of all the errors since the iPhone was returned to me.
Here are the entries to my log:
    iPhone 6+ Errors since March 30, 2015
    218 apps not synced
Failure to Sync - 0xE800002D - The app was not installed on the iPhone because of an unknown error
iPhone self reboot during reinstallation of 218 apps not synced
    Missing Google Authenticator settings.
AutoSMS app could not be reinstalled. Doesn't exist in App Store.
iPhone self reboot during phone call. Some apps reinstalling in background.
Could not download additional sound modules for Soundprism Pro. Still could not download modules after reinstalling app.
Noticed keyboard error when inputting Apple ID password. When pressing keys, instead of character pressed, a question mark appeared. Photo taken with another phone. Could not do a screenshot because iPhone screenshot would not work.
iPhone self reboot during text messaging. 9 apps updating (April 1, 2015, 11:30am)
Audible could not log in properly. Tried reinstalling app.
After manual reboot (cold reboot), screenshot functions works and no noticeable errors with keyboard.
Turned on full access for Fleksy , GIF and Symbols Keyboards. (April 1, 2015, 12:20 pm)
Noticed all 3rd party apps (Kindle, Audible, Dropbox, 1Password, YouTube) credentials need to be re inputted.
iPhone self reboot while testing GIF keyboard. Pasted an animated GIF on a test text message. Was able to paste GIF then phone rebooted. (April 1, 2015, 1:41pm) reboot took approximately 2mins.
GIF could not be pasted into Viber message. Also noticed screenshot function not working. (April 1, 2015, 1:53pm)
After cold reboot, screenshot function works. (April 1, 2015, 1:57pm).
iPhone self reboot while installing Ask Video9 apps. (April 2, 2014, 12:32am). Reboot time approximately 2mins.
Noticed standard keyboard error ("?s" when key is pressed) appeared. Also screenshot function not working.
After warm reboot (Home-Power key), all functions work. Reboot time approximately 1min.

Yeah my is the same. Ive had enough of it now...Its been a week of my phone crashing & apps crashing, camera crashing, call dropping out all the time. I've had enough. Apple have done nothing to help it. Ive an upgrade & myself & my partner are buying samsungs.
    P.S I've downloaded both ios 8 & ios.8.2 straight from my PC.
I have done all of the above & phone is still unstable & crashes apps all the time. Right now as we speak whats app wont work.
Waited to long now...Apple are doing nothing to help anyone anymore. Company is going down the drain fast.

  • Failing to load processes after installing patch 10.1.2.3

I have installed patch 10.1.2.3 after Oracle advised that it may resolve some database adapter problems I was getting in 10.1.2.0.2. However after installing the patch, many of the BPEL processes are now failing to load when I bounce the OC4J component and I am getting ORABPEL-05215 errors.
    I turned on debug logging and an extract of the log file is as follows, has anybody got any ideas on how I might resolve these errors;

  • My torch always reboot after install some application

Dear all,<br>I have problem with my torch always reboot and can not enter to home screen after installed some application, i had read this problem caused by new version of bbm which connect to application and give solution to delete cod with connect to bbm such as... Common.cod, plugin.cod... I had tried it by is not work... I try to do factory reset... It works but will delete all my data excluding application.. For sometimes it works but sometimes can not works and in the end i will wipe my torch and install new OS into my torch,<br><br>Please help if there are best solutions. Thank you in advance.<br><br>Regards

Your best bet is to reload the current OS to your phone.  If a newer version of OS exists and you wish to load it go ahead, but reloading your current one should do the trick.
To do this, plug your phone in to your PC and open BlackBerry Desktop Software.  Click Device at the top of the software then Update.
    I hope that helps you.
    - If my response has helped you, please click "Options" beside my post and mark it as solved. Clicking the "thumbs up" icon near the bottom of my response would also be appreciated.
