New iMovie & PSE 12 Running Painfully Slow
Have iMac 27", mid-2010, 3.2GHz Intel Core i3, 12GB memory.
Recently installed OSX Mavericks; and new version of Photoshop Elements (12).
Both the new version of iMovie and PSE are running very slowly (5-8 sec. delays when scrolling; moving clips in the timeline, etc.) Did not have this problem with previous version of iMovie or PSE 9 (was running Mountain Lion). At suggestion of Apple Tech. Support, I cleared the Cache file, and added 8GB of RAM, to a total of 12GB. Still running slow.
Anyone else experience these problems? Any suggestions for fixes?
Thanks Much,
Rick

After Effects CS6 running painfully slow
I am working on a composition in Adobe After Effects CS6, and it's running painfully slow. I've tried to mess with some of the settings in the preferences, and lowering the quality of the preview. But I still feel like I'm running terribly slow considering the speed of my computer. Here's what I'm running:

The composition I'm working with does have 1 camera, and about 45 small 3D comps built into it. No lights. And all of the footage and data is on the Mac OSX hard drive. Which has tons of space available as you can see. I've played around with the settings in After Effects. But nothing seems to significantly speed things up. Any ideas??Hey PJ,
I've been using CS6 since it was released, and while it's got a bunch of great new features, it's basically made Multi Processing unusable unless we're talking about the simplest of comps. I'm working on my second short using AE as the total animation package, and render times for complicated 3D comps (NOT using ray tracing) have tripled. MP used to take forever to spool up, but was fast once it got rolling. Now, disabling MP gives me 3 or 4 times faster rendering, which is still MUCH slower than MP is CS5.5. SOmething has deflineitly changed for the worse, as i'm using the same machine with the same settings and virtually the same comps.
I acutally just yesterday had two animators quit on my because they couldn't meet their deadlines.
I think After Effects is the hydra of programs. They kill one feature and two more fill its place. Unfortuanly we traded functional Multi-processing for falloff lighting and etc... The puppet tool was it 3 version of after effects before it was stable. I'm hoping we don't have to wait til CS7 for MP to sort itself out.
I really don't understand the "deal with it" aspect of the posters here. Surely a functional program that delivers on it's promises is the goal of this forum. We're not asking it to make us a sandwich. -
Smart sharpen runs painfully slow
Hello,
On my current system and on my previous system smart sharpen runs PAINFULLY slow. It happened in CS3, CS5, and now with CC it often causes the Photoshop to stop responding and I have to force quit.
I currently have:
MacBook Pro Dual 2.5 GHz i7
8 GB 1333 DDR3 Ram
dual SSDs running Raid 0
OS 10.8.4
The rest of Photoshop seens to run OK, it's just Smart Sharpen that bogs down I'm usually working on 16 bit files that have gotten to be around 800MB-1.2GB by the time I get to sharpening.
Any pointers?????
ThanksI did a test on my machine to simulate your 60 megapixels image for the square root of 60 megapixel I came up with 7746x7746 Pixels. So I opened a new document 7746x7746 Pixels 16bit ProPhotRGB 300DPI. made it 25.82" square/ I added a spectrum gradient ant the added a lot of noise. my machine is 2Ghz dual 6 core xeons. It took Smart Sharpen 28 seconds to sharpen the image. Only CPU was being used no disk i/o little RAM user around 5GB for Photoshop all CPU during the 28 seconds used by Photoshop 30% of all 24 Processor threads.

Macbook Pro running painfully slow
Hello,
I'm working on a MacBook Pro that's suddenly started to run painfully slow. I've repaired permissions, reset the PRAM, updated everything to Mavericks, and even though it might be running slightly faster, I'm still encountering the pinwheel every time I start anything up or really try to click on anything. I'm pasting my etrecheck info below. Any guidance is most welcome and appreciated!

I tried to update the latest software update for my MacBook pro (which was on 10/12) and after it started to update it restarted like normal but when it started back up it was running painfully slow and none oft programs will open. They all quit unexpectedly. iTunes microsoft word all of them quit unexpectedly. Help!
Exact same problem with my 2010 MBP 2.4ghz 4gb ram 10.6.8. iTunes said update was needed, Software Update ran with various updates including a security update, truthfully didn't pay much attention, I always install the Apple updates. After the restart it took 3-4 times longer than normal to get to the login screen, same to get to the desktop but I'm familiar with that occurring on update restarts. Unfortunately it got worse from there. Performed a full shutdown and startup. Same long boot. After the desktop finally loads every mouse button press received a 2 minute beachball. I use menu-meters and both processors are under 10%. Waited a few minutes for disk utilities to launch, repair permissions estimates 3 hours for a typical <10 minute process. Activity monitor shows nothing over 10% CPU most of the time however ReportCrash pops to the top often. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. BTW zero problems until this update.

New iOS 5 software running super slow
I rencently installed the new iOS 5 software onto my iPod Touch. I love the new features it has to offer, but it runs very slow at times. Whether I'm opening an app or just turning it off, it takes longer then it did with the previous software. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks!
Yeah, not only from my iTune client but my iPad and iPhone 4. Is it because App Store server is flooded with too many people using it or this version is buggy?

I just bought a mac book pro a couple days ago. It was fine the first couple days, but now it runs really slow.
what antivirus are you using?
that might be the one causing your issues - uninstall it and see what happens.
do not install any antivirus software in your Macbook Pro -
After new OS Update system runs extra slow!
After OS Update to lates OS, runs super slow. I have tried every tip in the book and it is running extra slow.
Hello wkerns
It is well known that some desktops and notebooks as well will determine a drastic performance loss after the installation of XP SP 2.check also this article http://www.dvhardware.net/article3135.html .
I have the same situation with My Satellite P10. The unit need about 20 seconds longer before I am able to use operating system. I really dont know what can be done to make it better. I have read that the processor driver should be exchanged with processor drivers used before SP2. I didnt try it yet. -
I am running Mac OS X 10.75 on my MacBook Pro, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4gb ram (late 2011)
and when I open iPhoto it runs so slow plus it slows the rest of my system. After 10 minutes or so it gets better yet it does tend to crash while moving photos, running the facial recognition component.
Any idea how to fix this?Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and apply the fix below:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.

internet connection running very slow. I have a cable provider. how to troubleshoot
This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Apple is not here. You can find contact information from Apple by using the Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page.
iPhones do not have international warranties. The only place in which you can get Apple service on your phones would be Hong Kong. Unless you have AppleCare, neither of these phones is under warranty. It is likely that the best Apple could offer you is an out-of-warranty replacement. -
Hi there,
I just bought my Macbook Pro two weeks ago specifiacally to use Photoshop CS and Lightroom together. It worked fine for the first few days but
has slowed down considerably since then. I live in Taiwan which makes it difficult to go to a store to have it finxed due to the language barrier
so online help would be fantastic! If the problem continues would it be possible to exchange it for an Air (if that's a wise choice?)
I look forward to a quick reply!
Thank you
CandiceHi Clinton,
Thanks for that super quick reply!!
I wasn't expecting this to happen with my new computer! However photoshop and lightroom are running ridulously slowly, even while scrolling through pictures the beachball appears!
Ill give you some information that may help you understand this problem better.

New Pages V5 is running very slow
I was using the previous version happily for 6 months, using the shapes and shadows, dimensions etc to create great looking and very fast design plans. The features were surprisingly good and the process very quick and easy.
As soon as I downloaded V5 all this stopped . Whilst it seems the feature are still available, the speed has become so slow, I can't use ANY of the original files, and creating new ones is far too slow.
I was & still am using a MacBook Pro (1 year old )
Can anyone help/suggest anything to speed things up ???
ThanksNo, Geoff, the features aren't the same. The list of missing features is in the high 40's in length. Apple have announced that they will restore 4 of them and make changes to two others, in 6 months.
There are other reasons for slowness that have to do with the Mavericks upgrade and iCloud syncing that could be contributing to your problems.

New-ish Macbook booting/running extremely slow after 10.6.3?
Hi all,
I bought a refurbished Macbook in March 2010. A few days ago I installed the big updates along with 10.6.3 and everything was fine. I was then trying to play an .avi with VLC media player with some other programs open (Firefox, iTunes I think). VLC started not responding along with the other programs and I got the spinning wheel for a little while. Eventually I forced quit everything and restarted. Upon this restart (and, incidentally, this would have been the first restart after the initial install/restart of the above updates) my Macbook was running really slowly. Extremely long boot up times (like 10-15 minutes), constant spinning wheel in OS X (takes about 1-2 minutes to load the system drop-down menu, longer for apps like disk utility). Everything runs fine, just massive load times and spinning wheels when doing anything.
I hadn't installed any new programs, widgets or any other stuff aside from the update last week.
The laptop's memory usage seems pretty normal (about 1.2/2.0gb free RAM, no page-outs) and nothing seems to be bogging down the CPU. All my processes are Intel. I have about 40gb free on my 120gb hard drive. Checked my Font Book and I have no duplicates.
I tried resetting PRAM (no change) and I verified/repaired the disk with DU (no trouble found).
I ran the Apple Hardware Test and everything came up without problems.
I ran repair permissions from the OS X CD and it repaired a whole bunch of Airport stuff and I got a ton of "Open Error 1" for keyedobjects, etc but the latter is normal?
What should I do next to resolve this? Is it an Airport issue given the repaired permissions? I'm guessing it's likely software/update related, since all my hardware SEEMS fine... Any help would be very much appreciated. Please let me know if you need more info.Hi again.
So after my above fiasco I decided to completely reformat (zero-out-data) my drive and do a clean install. After doing this, I began reinstalling all my previous software, and everything was back to normal, very fast, smooth, etc.
Today I decided I'd grab all my music and other files over from my PC's external hard drive to put it on my Macbook. I copied all my separate, misc. files like photos and .psd files and text documents first (about 5gb), and then copied my music folder next (70gb or so). After copying exactly 48gb, the computer froze and I got a spinning wheel. I couldn't click the X to stop the transfer and I let it sit for a good 30 minutes spinning away before trying force quit, and Ctrl - Option - Command - Eject to restart. Nothing worked. Eventually I just gave up and held down the power button.
Macbook restarted fine but then trying to resume the transfer of the rest of my music files kept giving me errors. The first time it copied an album or two and then hung up, this time allowing me to hit the X on the transfer. I tried one more time but it hung up after the first file, and more spinning wheel. Again, the computer was completely unresponsive with the spinning wheel, so I was forced to power button.
Now I get a similar experience to the first time (OP comments), but the start up is much faster. Still spinning wheels, but not as frequent. More importantly, I can't move any data currently on my macbook back off of it, using FAT32 USB sticks or anything. I tried once but I got another transfer hang-up so I don't want to try again. I can hear the hard drive "slip" or whatever, when I try, and then it just churns and spins around trying to find itself. I get similar sounds on start up, but eventually it seems to kick in and be fine.
(For the record, I had this same inability to write data from my macbook the first time this happened.)
Is this just because I had to force shut down the computer? Again, the computer was running fine until the freeze-up + force shut down.
Is it possible that the files I'm copying over were the cause? I had copied the same files over from the same NTFS hard drive right when I got the computer back in March, and they were working fine on the Macbook up until the first issues started a few weeks ago.
It seems to me like a hard drive issue, but Repair and Verify still comes up clean.
Thanks in advance! -
Flash CC is running painfully slow and quitting on me, also have sound problems
My Flash Creative cloud application is running very slowly. I am not sure whether it is to do with my file size, the file size is 310MB and i have been told this isnt that big.
I have recently brought more ram so my computer runs faster, this has helped my computer generally but not with flash.
I am also getting a buzzing sound when I press play for my sound. It doesnt stop even if i press stop or pause in the timeline. I have to quit flash entirely for it to stop. I have tested to see if it is that individual sound file but i am getting the same problem with all sound files.
HELP IS NEEDED QUICKLY PLEASE!!!It's a known issue that Adobe says will be fixed soon. It's really a problem though. We are now back to CS6 for our current project, and it's got it's own issues with streaming sounds.
They have made some pretty amazing progress with Flash and Air in the last couple of years. Unfortunately, it feels like new and old problems come and go with each update. Hard to complain too much though, we'd be sunk without these tools.
Hopefully the next update will be relased soon.
