Okay, before you say it, yes, am asking about LOGIC users here to see if they noticed an increase in FPU or DECREASE with new UPDATE, with first LEOPARD, there were spikes, and it used more CPU than TIGER (some are still waiting for Pro Tools)..
Anyway, what is the best way to update to Leopard and still keep my emails (10 different accounts) and just update to LEOPARD ? MBP is my lifeline and I don't want to back up, just install my NFS then go to update, will that work!

There is none. Whatever you do to get rid of the older versions will inevitably do damage to shared components and other stuff of the new versions as well. That's just how it is with this approach... Uninstall the older versions, run the cleaner tool then reinstall CC 2014.

Backup the old iPad first, either to itunes or iCloud.
Once that is done, setup the new iPad from the backup. Choose the Restore from Backup option when setting up the new iPad.

When that is done, wipe the old iPad clean and set up as new.
Settings->General->Reset->Erase all Content and Settings
You can create a new Apple Id when you set up the iPad again.

Erase and Install upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6- Novice User!!

I am planning on upgrading from Tiger to Leopard soon and had some concerns. I plan to use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup all data to an external drive. My concerns at this time are:
1. Will my old saved email messages in Apple Mail carry over to Leopard?
2. What about my Office for Mac which I just installed on my MBP, will I have to install it again?
3. How would I keep my Safari bookmarks?
I know these might be really simple things for most users out there, but I am not a very technical person despite having used a mac for a couple of years!
Any replies (or suggestions for upgrading) would be greatly appreciated!!

You seem to be very knowledgeable on Mac: I´ve been using it fro quite a few years but upgrading to Leopard has been a nightmare: first install and archive did not work because it had problems creating a "unknown user",etc. I decided to Erase and Install and now _I´m getting a message that the Install disk is damaged_ (which is not really , because in the first installation it gave me the same message, and worked OK after repeating the operation). Would appreciate if you know something about this problem, and any other friend on the forum giving me some advise.

I would use this. I use it on my MBPs and it does an excellent job. I cannot say with authority that it will remove your hair spay residue.

Many movies from one project...best way?

I’ve got about an hour of clips imported into a single project. Now I want to assemble these into a half-dozen short vids drawing from the large bin of clips, like chapters, but not going into iDVD. I just want separate QT movies. I’ve sorted the clips into groups representing each video (none are used more than once) and finished a rough edit of the first video; now what do I do with the project? Saving As... seems very slow and cumbersome. Is there some other way to create different projects for each little video, so I can keep editing them without having to duplicate the whole first project 5 times, then delete the not-needed clips.

I think exporting to tape would be a good option for your project.
You said that you have made a only a rough edit of the first video so far. If this edit doesn't contain transitions/titles/effects, the export to tape option will preserve the scene breaks, meaning when you re-import, the clips will be in your timeline just as before, ready for the final edit. In this case the clips can be deleted (if you are sure that you don't need them anymore).
On the other hand, you state that you want to create a number of Quicktime movies. If the editing for one movie is completed, you can export via Quicktime to the desired format (full quality DV will give best results). As you export only the edited clips in your timeline, you don't have to create different projects. Simply edit one movie, export, then delete all the clips in the timeline and start editing the next series of clips.
The best way is probably a combination of the two:
Rough edit > export to tape > final edit > export to QT movie

I have written some import routines for a customer which import invoices and other documents into SAP from an ascii file
These can take some time to run depending on the size of the file
What's the best way of allowing the user to cancel the program ?
I have tried adding application.doevents but it doesn't seem to help when I try clicking on the cancel button on the form

Hello Andy,
1.st Use transacation to roll back when user presses the Cancel Button
2.nd You may run the import file in a different thread from the addon, with a static global marker that the import must be cancelled or not
3. Rigth now, because of a different thread, the addon will keep alive and wait for the cancel button event.
4. when cancel button event raises, you send join into the separated thread, and stop it (eg cancel the thread).
5. You can rollback the transactions done by the thread.
I think you must do a multi threaded addon to handle this case.

A few battery tips...
You can start using it out of the box, or charge it, whatever you like, doesn't matter either way.
You cannot overcharge the device, thus you can leave it plugged in as long as you like.
You can and should charge as often and as long as possible... deep discharges are hard on lithium batteries. Normal mobile use will usually result in the one charge cycle/month that Apple recommends although it's OK to fully discharge and then recharge to 100% every once in a while to recalibrate the battery meter.

New UC560 and 3 ESW-540-24P Switches, best way to wire them

We are installing a UC560 and 3 ESW-540-24P switches at a client in a couple of weeks. I have installed many of these but have never installed one with multiple switches. What is the best way to connect these together physically. They will be all in the same rack. Was just wondering the best way to "series" the switches together and what ports to plug them into. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Question about upgrading to Leopard (MBP) from Tiger (PB G4)

Hey everyone, I got an imporant question, which actually will decide what would I buy/do, hope some of you can help me please!
Ok, so first of all, this is my situation:
I got a Powerbook G4 12-inch (bought in December 2005) and I never bought any upgrades of iLife to it...so it still has iLife 05. Now, this mac is not working anymore for me cause I need more speed/room and besides I want Leopard and this thing can't do Leopard (it has 1.5GHz, 512MB). So I already got my buyer and I also bought an external HD from the Apple Online Store (the iomega with 500GB) so I can clone the HD of my current mac.
My plan is to buy a new MacBook Pro in Januray, right after Macworld, that is 15th and then when it is in the setup for Leopard mount this hard drive that has a clone from my old computer to the new MBP.
So my question is: If I mount and setup Leopard from the clone of my powebook, would I lose the extras such as iLife 08 (maybe it would make me go back to iLife 05?) or Front Row and that sort of stuff? and also, can I erase later the whole external disc so I can use its 100% capacity in Time Machine?

Yes that is all you can do today.

No. The new MacBook Pro will already have Leopard installed. You will simply be going through the "Welcome to Mac" process because it is a new Mac and you are powering it on for the first time.
oh, and would it make go back to iLife 05 or it will keep the iLife 08 apps?

Won't install OS from Tiger disk.

MacBook 1.1 667MHz Intel upgraded to OS X 10.4.11. Need to downgrade* to OS X 10.4.10. Took out trusty Tiger install disk (legally purchased from Apple, black, grey X, version 1.4) pop it into MacBook and MacBook won't boot up from disk (option, command-., "C", nothing works.)
So, I read "Help" that says to double-click on installer icon. Dialog box pops up: "Mac OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this machine...."
Question: How can I "Archive and Install" OS X 10.4.10 on my OS X 10.4.11 MacBook?

Perhaps I have forgotten, but I don't recall - and can't find - any Intel/MacBook-specific install disks that came with the computer. Should I have had these? If I can rummage through the attic and find it/them, can I "Archive and Install" just like a PPC machine?

New install - migrate from Time Machine stuck at Transferring Information

Just got a new MBP and hooked it up to my USB drive to let it run overnight migrating my old settings and Applications.
The bar's full, it says "Less than a minute remaining", but appears to be stuck. It's transferring my Applications folder apparently, or so it claims.
It's about 40 GB of data all told.
Any ideas? I'm going to try Firewire next, or copying my Documents folder manually so the amount of data is smaller.

Same issue transferring via FireWire 800 cables form an older iMac to a new one. Stuck at 1 minute for a very long time until the new Mac gave a message that the other Mac had stopped responding. It gave me the option of terminating the transfer, which I did. Then, it congratulated me on a successful transfer. Unfortunately, things are working poorly. For instance, iPhoto can't find my library. iMovie can't find my movies, etc.
Transfer help welcome.

The "Get Messages" button is grey, cannot send or receive. New install, import from Outlook 2007.

Tried importing Outlook data during install and later (after uninstall and reinstall)
No option to receive mail showing anywhere, and shift-f5 does nothing.

Your MacBook shoul NOT be too old to run Leopard. (10.5) Snow Leopard, maybe, but not Leopard.
When you go to the Genius Bar, MAKE SURE the genius knows you are NOT up to date with your OS. If they try to update your phone, you could find yourself unable to sync at all...
That said, if you're nice to them, they might just give you a copy of Leopard so you can get current with iTunes and iOS. It's been known to happen.

New Install - Best Way to add users

Disclaimer: 100% New to Macs!
I need advice on setting up a new Mac Mini Server. Our intent is to use this as an e-mail/calendar server for a small business, replacing a Lotus Domino server that is being retired. Our computing enviroment is based on a (don't laugh) Windows NT4 domain and as such we do not support Windows Active Directory.
Since I was not be able to import users automatically (presumably because of the lack of Active Directory) during the install, I selected "Create users and groups" and started adding users once the install was done. After doing that I then logged off of the Admin account and tried to log on as one of these newly created users and was unable to do so. I tried several others and had the same result.
So I guess my questions are:
Should I have chosen to "Configure manually" for the creation of users? or how should I go about adding these users to this system?
Any thoughts/recommendations on a OS X Server for Dummies type book?

When you say log on, do you mean log on as a user of the Mac Mini running OS X server?
I don't think server users can log on to the server itself unless they have a user account on the computer running OS X server, in this case your Mac mini.

Not at all. Your users should have access to the services you allow for them
