New install not accessing existing library on D: drive.

My iTunes library is much larger than my entire SSD I use as a boot volume, so of course I keep it on a second internal hard drive labeled D:.
I just had my system corrupted and all backcup images not read by restore discs, so I had to wipe my C: SSD and re-install my Windows 7, 64-bit OEM from scratch.  Now, with a new install of iTunes, I can't seem to get it to recognize my existing library on my D: drive.  I've pointed it there in preferences both to the iTunes folder and the iTunes Library folder inside it on the drive.  I can open any individual item with iTunes separately and add that to my library separately, but no matter what, this thing just seems to ignore my existing content completely.  Nothing shows in my library within the program but the few nonsense songs that came with some software somewhere.
I at first thought it was finding my TV shows, but it turns out that was only on the cloud.  I don't want to depend on some cloud server for my content I've bought and paid for when I have it stored in redundant hard drives of my own.  I need this to access my content on the drive I've selected for it, including my existing content already there.

OK, I got the menu  bar open and found an article in "help" that said to drag the existing library folder into the iTunes window and that got my stuff into the software, but how can I be sure that new purchases go into the proper folder on my D: drive rather than into some C; drive location.  I have a terrabyte D: drive that is already red in Windows Explorer and still has more space left than this SSD I'm using as a C: drive had blank.

  • I can not access existing library folder when editing a previously saved book, please help

    Hi
I am a 3rd year University student, brand new to lightroom and am creating (trying to) create 3 books for my final university assignment.
I have created and saved "RABBET FINAL", and then carried on with the next 2 books, I now would like to go back and add more images to "RABBET FINAL", but when i select the the library folder I used previously called "All that i have", it automatically opens a new unsaved book. I then try to click on my saved book "RABBET FINAL", and it changes a library folder to a folder which only the images which are already in "RABBET FINAL"
When I hover the cursor over the library folder at the bottom, it says "ALL that i have + unsaved book. Is this the issue?
The BOOK also has a "+" next to it, is this causing it not to allow me to select from a different library?
    I hope this makes sense.
    [email protected]

A saved book behaves like an ordinary collection.
In the book module click on RABBET FINAL in the left hand panel. It will have a double page book icon if it’s a saved book. Now right click on that saved book and choose Set As target Collection. A plus sign will indicate it is the target.
Now return to the Library and the folder with the images you wish to add. Use shift-click to select (highlight) the images you want or Ctrl+Click for individual non-consecutive images. With all of them selected press the B key and you should see confirmation that they have been added to RABBET FINAL.
Return to the book module and click on RABBET FINAL and you should see your extra images in the film strip. Click on add page and drag each image from the film strip up on to the new page. Be careful to click in the center of each filmstrip image and not one of the thumbnail icons.

  • HT1364 How to install iTunes, but access music library from external drive?

I tried to install iTunes (11) on a new computer with Windows 8.  I keep the iTunes library on an external drive.  I tried to move the media files over to the newly installed iTunes within the hard drive program files, but it doesn't seem to work.  The relevant threads in the forum are a bit over my head (I am brand new to Windows 8, having leaped over from XP).  Is there some simple way to straighten out the paths on iTunes so that it will properly play songs from the external drive, show my old songlists, etc?
I've now uninstalled iTunes from computer.  Would like to reinstall without too much headache ...

    Hello there FunkyMuzak,
iTunes can be set to use the library on the external drive, and save new content.
To have iTunes open the alternate library on the drive use this option:
Steps to create or choose a different iTunes Library file
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you are using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu and choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you are using the Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
You should see one of the following screens:
From: iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1589
And to tell iTunes to save your new media when you buy songs or movies, etc., use this part of our article named Where are my iTunes files located? found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1391
Discovering and changing the iTunes Media folder location
Note: You would usually only change the iTunes Media folder location to share music between accounts on the same computer. See this article for specific steps on how to accomplish this. Also, see this article if you want to know how to move your music to a new computer.
Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences.
Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Advanced pane. iTunes displays the location of your iTunes Media folder.
    You can then:
Note where your media folder is, such as for backing up your media.
Use the Reset button to reset it's location to the default (which is the iTunes folder).
Click the Change button to select a folder for a new location. Once you change this location:
If you make a new or alternate iTunes library, the new location will be used by that library.
Existing files will not be moved unless you choose File > Library > Organize library and choose the option to "Consolidate files."
    Cheers,

  • New ipod not syncing to library - error message -69?

Just bought new ipod and it begins to sync with my existing library, but once it gets to the "K"'s it says it can't sync a particular song and then only syncs a tiny fraction of what it was syncing before the error message.
I thought it was a particular problem with the song, so I deleted the song. Then I deleted an entire artist. Then it had the same issue with the next artist in line alphabetically.
    Help!

The message is saying that iTunes can find the file for  "Stuff you need to know part 3" can't be found.  Does (what ever it is, a song? podcast or what) play in iTunes?  Try deleting and redownloading.

  • Can see but not access shared library

I have a PC running Windows XPsp3 and the latest version of iTunes, and my husband is on a macbook using the latest OS and iTunes.  We both have Home Sharing enabled and he can access my library, but I can not access his.  I can see his shared library but when I click on it, it thinks for a while and kicks me back to my library.  I checked to make sure we were both using the same account info and that we both had sharing enabled.  I checked to make sure our respective firewalls where allowing iTunes through. We are using an AirPort for our router; I'm wired in and he is wireless. I've been looking in the community and can't see where anyone has successfully resolved this problem.
BTW, before I recently reformatted and rebuilt my PC, when I encountered this problem I would get an error stating I needed to check my firewall.  Reformatting my PC did not correct the problem, only removed the error message.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

  • [iTunes11] New songs not appear in library

    Hi everyone,
With the new itunes 11 I can't see new songs or new movies in my local library (adding from iTunes Store or finder)
I have a macbook unibody with snow leopard.
I found a workaround : disable iTunes Match => new songs (or other itunes files) appear instantly.
I'm very surprised that this bug was'nt fixed before the release of the iTunes 11, am I the only one with this bug ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Have a nice day

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that the external list not display the new item button.
When we have created a new external list, by default, the new item button would not appear in the form.
However, we can first create a new item using the new item button in the Ribbon.
Then, after we have created a new item in the external list,
the new item button would display in the form as below.
You can create a new item using the ribbon, then check whether it works.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Can not access existing iWeb 3.1.1 on MBP

I created a web page using iWeb on MacPro (repeat MacPro) and it is now in storage. Sad, huh?
So I start using a MacBook Pro, iWeb 3.1.1 (latest version) and cannot access old webpage.
I read info on using different computers and different versions of iWeb.
Am I just stuck and unable to update my old webpage?
This is the old page and I can not access or update it. Can you give workaround or help, please?
    Message was edited by: Host

Well, if you don't have the domain.sites file for your old website and did not save it from your other Mac before using the new one, then unfortunately, there are no workarounds.
You will have to re-build your site from scratch - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open published pages.
This question is asked almost daily on this forum, so do a search and you will find the answers - which is re-build from scratch if you can't access the old domain file.

  • New Movie not showing in library

i Movie is simply distressing at times. I just created a Movie. It shows under my projects but not in the Library. Other movies show in the Library but not in the projects. So I'm stuck. When does a project show in the Library. There is no save function. Is there any place other than apple with good instructions for the app?

That has been reported here a few times, and clearly is not how it is supposed to work. If the tracks show in a playlist, they should be visible in the main Music listing of the library as well.
One guy said that when he restarted his machine they appeared correctly. Give it a try.

  • Access iTunes library from External drive after OS upgrade

Because of its size I have recently kept my iTunes library in the 'Media Library' on an external hard drive and accessed content from there without any problem. After upgrading to OS 10 Lion, iTunes has created a new library on my internal hard drive. Now I'm trying to re-access the old library on my external hard drive.
I have tried two things so far:
    - Gone into the iTunes Advanced Preferences and changed the Media folder location to my external hard drive location. That didn't work.
    - When I open iTunes holding the option key (as was suggested here) I am given the option of choosing a different library. But when I click on the iTunes folder in MediaLibrary I get the following message:
An iTunes library file could not be found in the folder "iTunes". Please choose a different folder.
All the content is there on the external drive but I'm assuming there are some .itl or /xml files missing. (I can see those as part of the new iTunes folder on the internal drive.) I have a floder named Previous iTunes Libraries on the external drive which contains some files with dates in them, two of which have the extension: .itl
Should I perhaps move those files somewhere...?
    Any help is appreciated!!!

  • No artwork when new Pc 'pointed' at itunes library on network drive

I've got my itunes library stored on a network drive. I'm now setting up a new PC (Windows 8.1). I've installed the latest itunes and pointed it at the network drive. I can see all the music and play it but I don't see any album artwork? Any ideas what I need to do?

Is the whole library on the network drive, or just the media folder? Is it a NAS or a shared folder on another Windows machine? A USB connected drive as your primary library with the network drive as backup may be a more robust solution. If you library files are on the system drive see Make a split library portable.

I had the entire library on the network drive.  At one time I used it with just the movies on a drive that was plugged into my router but that was a hassle.  So I bought the 4TB network drive hoping this would be an easier solution and I could store everything on it.
It had work fine for a while but I do not know what happened.  Nothing I tried worked.  I successfully moved my library to my USB 3.0 drive and it is working just fine.  I am able to download from the iTunes store now.
Now, I did discover that some movies were missing but I can re-download them easily.
What I don't understand is that if I view my purchases in the iTunes store and tell it to show only movies that are not in my library it shows a whole lot of things that ARE in my library.

  • How To Move Existing Library to External Drive

I have my Aperture library on my main internal drive. I have just purchased an eSATA drive (CalDigit's SVR Duo) and want to move my library off my internal drive onto the new external drive.
How can this be done? The only way I can figure out how to do it is to create a vault, backup the entire library, then restore with a new library referenced onto the external drive.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

A little easier is merely to move the Aperture library in Finder (Aperture Library.aplibrary) to its new location. Then double-click it to launch Aperture. Aperture will use this library and reset the Prefs. (came in in 1.5.0).
What I don't know is whether the Vault will still see the new location as the original library and continue providing incremental updates. Hopefully so.
The other big option is to leave the library "as is" on the internal drive, and using File/Relocate Masters for Project to relocate masters to the external drive leaving a small library. Note that Vault does not back up referenced masters.

  • New Keyboard Not Compatible With All USB Flash Drives

    Hi,
I've noticed that the new super-thin iMac keyboards are not compatible with all USB Flash Drives. Here's an example.
I have 2 USB Flash Drives. One is a ByteStor 2GB USB 2.0 High Speed Dataferry Flash Drive, the other is a Kingston DataTraveler 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Neither of these drives used to work with the previous design of iMac keyboard, giving me the "low power" warning.
However, the ByteStor works just fine with the new super-thin iMac keyboard, but oddly enough, the Kingston DataTraveler doesn't. Does anyone know why this is? What's the difference? When buying a new USB Flash Drive, how do you know if it's compatible with the new iMac keyboard or not?

Thanks. Yeah the Kingston DataTraveler works just fine if I plug it into one of the USB 2.0 ports on the back of the iMac. But if I plug it into the new thin Apple Keyboard, it gives the low power warning.

Anyway, I'll try that new keyboard software update and report back.

  • New Install - Can access the internet but not with Web Browser

I just installed Solaris 10 11/06 with my new Ultra 20 M2 workstation. I can ping, complete NSLOOKUP commands on public domain names and can telnet; however, when I try to use the browser it says it cannot connect to the internet. I made sure of the following:
    - Web Browser is not using proxy
    - resolv.conf is accurate
    - defaultrouter is accurate
    - hosts, hostname.. are good
    - netmasks is fine.
Any thoughts? thanks for your help.

Is there a firewall between the server and the internet, try telneting the fully qualified domain name again but on port 80 (or 8080) (i.e. telnet www.yahoo.com 80), do you have another machine on this network that can access the internet through a browser (if so check it's settings) also if you have an intranet see if the browser can access that, if these don't work then the problem is settings\config in your browser.
also try a traceroute and see where the packets are routed and how many hops it takes.

  • Will re-installing itunes lose existing library

Last year I had to install another program to record on a DVD disk. Since then, I get a message stating,
"The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I have not reinstalled iTunes fearing that I would lose my existing music library and album artwork. Much of the library and artwork were taken from my old vinyl collection and some are purchased recordings. If I reinstall, will I lose all this?

    cgmclellan wrote:
Rather poor advice. Not helpful because reinstall article doesn't seem to work.
I tried to reinstall, but could not because the iTunes on my computer was newer than the one on my disk. The disk title was iPod + HP (the apple logo is in fron of the script). It came with an iPod purchased in 2004. OK, I had to uninstall iTunes and iPod. After attempting to reinstall I could not get either iTunes (4.6) or iPod to load (2004-08-06) or work. I now have a useless iPod and music that I can not longer access, if it is still there.
How can I get iTunes installed alone and how can I get the iPod to work again. Both the iTunes on the my computer and the iPod stuff were updated, so this old disk doesn't seem to work right any more.
    Any other advice?
Yes, backup your library (the entire iTunes Folder) uninstall your existing iTunes, download the latest version from Apple and install it, if there are problems with the library after that, restore your backup.
