New install of Lightroom 5.0 or 5.3?

I have just purchased Lightroom 5.0, but I understand that there are several serious bugs with it, so I am wondering whether I should just install 5.3 instead, and use the software key from my 5.0 Disk.  I do not have any previous versions of Lightroom installed.  I tried the "Chat" feature but I just keep getting an autobot response that no one is available yet to help.

I wonder if installing the RC version is better than installing 5.2? If RC is installed, will the released 5.3 install right over the top with no issue?
Yes, and yes.
The publish collection selection bug (which was bettered in 5.2) was finally fixed (knock on wood) in Lr5.3(RC). That's the main bug which springs to mind. If you don't use Publish Services, then 5.2 may be OK, otherwise beware: what seems selected may not be selected!

  • Why Won't A New Install Of Lightroom 4 Open?

I am running Windows 8 on a 64-bit HP Envy laptop.  The laptop is less than a month old so there are not a lot of programs installed.   I have a 1TB drive, 12GB of memory, and an i7 processor.
I purchased Lightroom 4 today and downloaded and installed it.  There were no issues with any of those steps.  When I open the program, a icon appears on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, but the program never opens.  When I hover on the icon, a small thumbnail appears.  When I click on the thumbnail, it goes away and nothing happen.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program with the same results.
I then tried loading the program on a 32-bit desktop and the program loaded and ran as expected.  I was able to start the program, open it and activate the software.
I tried (on the 64-bit laptop) uninstalling and reinstalling and continue having the same issue.
    Any suggestions

Try to open Lr from the <Start> button >All programs. Lr should be listed there as "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.4" (if that is the version you have installed).
When you install a new version of Lr the icons in the taskbar are not replaced. The taskbar is "personalized", i.e. only those icons appear there that you have manually put there.
The icon that you are seeing is most probably for an older version of Lr that does not function any more since you installed the new version.
Delete the icon on the taskbar and replace it with one for your version of Lr. To delete it, right-click it and select <Unpin ...>.
To put the "new" icon on the taskbar, first create a desktop icon and then drag that to the taskbar.

  • New Install of Lightroom 3.5 on brand new MacBook Pro Hangs on launch

I received my new MacBook Pro last week, and I installed Lightroom 3.5 promptly.  I launched the software and was able to enter my serial number and inport some photos without problem.  I have been trying to launch Lightroom for the past 2 days and it displays the splash screen and then stops repsonding.  There are no periphials attached to my MacBook at this time.  I uninstalled the application, then reinstalled again.  Same thing.  Any suggestions???

Look for a file ending in .lock next to your catalog (the .lrcat file).  LR creates such a file to keep more than one user from using the catalog at a time and possibly corrupting it.  If LR does not close normally, the .lock file is left behind and blocks you from opening LR.  If you find that file, delete it.  Do not delete the other files such as .lrcat or .journal.  If that doesn't work, come back and let us know.

  • When I try to move from one selected image to selecting a different image, lightroom (new install of Lightroom 5.5) will keep the previous image selected, so I always end up with two selected images - why?

For example, I will select the first image in my grid view, then let's say I want to work on the fifth image. When I click on the fifth image, Lightroom leaves image one selected, as if I have held down the Command or the Shift key to select multiple images.  This is not what I expect. Then I am forced to command click the image I no longer want selected - this happens every time I try to move to any new image - the previous one(s) stay selected.  I have tried a reboot of my machine but still this happens.  Also, as a further bug, if I leave my grid with no images selected at all, after a few seconds Lightroom automatically selects the first two images in my library and highlights them - without my even pressing a key!  This is really weird behaviour. It's really frustrating as I like to use my keyboard arrow keys to move through my library of images, but when Lightroom keeps two images selected it just ping pongs between those two images.  I deselect and try to move on, and it again leaves the previous image selected!  By the way - I am not in Compare mode while this is happening - just in standard browsing of the library...  Help please!
    kind regards,

    Hi,
thanks for mail. I now tried again to activate lightroom by copying the serial number on Adobe webside/my account. Unfortunately same result: I got the following message:
The serial number is invalid. Please try again: if the problem persist, please contact customer support.
Unfortunately the could or would not help - only referred to this chat page.
I have serial numbers for both version 4 and 5 and of course downloaded the latest, which is version 5.
    regards

    Hi Kaj,
firstly this is a user to user forum so it's not our website, nevertheless I'm sure we can help you.
Firstly, are the serial numbers you're using for the same version of Lightroom?
If they are, then I'd suggest copying the serial numbers straight from your profile on the Adobe website to the Lightroom screen rather than retyping.  It's easy to mistype even when you're sure you're not (we've had several such instances in the past).
Can you five us the exact wording of the error message (or a screen grab as long as it doesn't reveal the serial numbers as this a public forum)?
If the reply above answers your question, please take a moment to mark this answer as correct by visiting: https://forums.adobe.com/message/7271945#7271945 and clicking ‘Correct’ below the answer

  • How do I install my Lightroom on a new system

Last year I purchased Lightroom and installed it on my older laptop. I recently bought a new desktop system and a subscription to Adobe CC. I'm trying to find out how to transfer the install of Lightroom to my new system.

Don't transfer... install it just like you did originally on the first machine. You can have it installed on two machines. If you need access to download...

Mostly because you are not using any capital letters or paragraph returns and your post is difficult to read.
