NEW INSTALL OF LION

Good morning to all,
Well I could not delete one of my 16GIG USB sticks and only saved LION on my IMAC not on my stick as I have been told to. What I want to do is also load it onto my MBA and MBP, just wondering as I have installed this already on the IMAC how does one transfer to the other two macs.

After you download the installer it will start automatically. DO NOT click the Install button. First make a copy of the installer - CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Duplicate from the contextual menu. Move the copy somewhere safe outside of the Applications folder. You can then proceed to install Lion on that computer.
Refer to one of the two links I provided earlier that tells you how to make a bootable flash drive. You need to partition and format the flash drive as follows:
Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

I installed Dreamweaver CS5.5 today on OS X Lion 7.3. I am unable to edit any site. The edit dialog doesn't show. It gives no error when I create a new Site but again there is no edit dialog.

Open up the Disk Utility and run the repair permissions function. If that doesn't work you may have to backup the site definitions from the Site Manager screen where the Edit button does nothing. De-activate (help->de-activate) Dreamweaver. Run the cleaner ( http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html ) and re-install. If it still does not function at that point it could be a more serious issue with the installer and 10.7.3. My version was installed prior and if Apple changed something where the installer fails, you would need to contact Adobe at that point. They do provide installation help: http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/contact.html .

Restore files from time machine after new install

In my office one of my iMac's suffered a complete system crash. I am reinstalling OS X Lion as I write this post. The iMac was backed up to an external hard drive using time machine. After the new install of Lion how do I grab my user files from the machine backup?
I appreciate in advance your help.

When you complete the installation and boot into the Setup Assistant use the opportunity to restore from a TM backup which will appear in the Assistant. Just have the backup drive connected. You can then restore from the most recent backups of your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences.
Restore will take a while, but when done just restart.

How can I install Mountain Lion into a VM on a New Macbook Pro running YOSEMITE from APPS
I have it in my apps purchased but It tells me the system is to New to download/run it

I think the problem is that you can't install an older OS X version onto a system running a newer OS X version. So I would try the following:
     1. have an external disk or create another partition on an internal drive to use for the Mountain Lion install (you might have to shrink an existing partition to make room for another)
     2. Create an external bootable USB thumb drive with the Mountain Lion OS on it (do a search on the web for this - for example see http://www.macworld.com/article/1167857/how_to_make_a_bootable_mountain_lion_ins tall_drive.html
     3. Reboot Yosemite and then boot from the USB thumb drive by holding down the option key
     4. run the mountain lion installer and install on the new disk/partition you created in step 1 - it will also create another recovery partition from this same part of the disk
Now your Mac system will have both a Mountain Lion install as well as the Yosemite install. You won't be able to use Migration Assistant to move things from Yosemite to Mountain Lion because it will see that you're "going backwards" and won't allow you to.
Have a good backup of everything before starting in case there are problems.

I too am running xp spiii on my mac with lion. However I installed xp while running snow leopard then upgraded to lion and both are running fine. If you have the support disc that came with the imac all the relevant drivers are on there. The only other thing i would suggest is that you get spiii and upgrade to that.

Install 10.6 and 10.8 onto the new drive exactly how you did it on the old drive, except that you won't need to pay to redownload 10.8. Alternatively, if you kept a copy of the 10.8 installer, you can just rerun it.

Hi, I have a late 2008 iMac with a new hard drive. How do I install Mountain Lion from my bootable USB flash drive.

How do I install Mountain Lion to a new hard drive without having the recovery partition on it.
I have the USB flash drive with software on it but when I switch my Mac on all I have is a white screen & a flashing question mark.

Did you use LionDiskMaker or DiskMaker X?
Boot the machine with the option key down until you see your bootable USB stick. Select the latter, and reboot.
When the installer boots up, you will first need to choose Utilities and Disk Utility. Select the target HD device name and then the partition tab. Select 1 partition, name it Macintosh HD. Format is Mac OS Extended, and option is GUID. Apply. Exit Disk Utility and return to the installer, which will now show your newly partitioned HD as available for install.
When OS X is installed and all updates applied, press shift+command+U and run disk utility again. Verify/repair permissions and verify the boot disk.

New boot drive and a clean install of Lion

I have a Mac Pro with multiple internal hard drives. My Lightroom catalogs are on one disk, my actual photos are on another, and my OS is on a 3rd. I recently decided to upgrade my 7200rpm SATA boot drive to SSD. In the process, I also did a clean install of Lion. None of my data was moved, as it was all on separate internal drives.
I have the new OS installed, and I reinstalled Lightroom 3. I should also mention that whenever I import files from CF cards (using a card reader), I import as DNG. I only shoot RAW.
When I launch Lightroom and look at my previous work, or the shoot that I was working on prior to the upgrade, I notice that (at least) the following is missing: flags, ratings, edits. I think I can live without the flags and ratings (though I would love to get them back), but I thought the whole idea of DNG was to store the sidecar "edits" file with the RAW file in one package. Shouldn't I be able to see my crops, treatments, localized brush edits, etc.?
What am I doing wrong and what can I do to remedy the situation?

You need the original catalog file. You should have copied this over to your new instillation and then just opened it, rather than reimporting files.
If, as you seem to be saying, your catalog is not on the OS disk then all you need to do is open this after reinstalling LR, rather than creating a new catalog as you seem to have done. Just find the original catalog and open it from LR, or double click on it from Finder when LR is closed.
If you have not kept a copy of the catalog file, then you could use your most recent back up of the catalog, hopefully you made regular backups using LR's backup system and did this to a separate drive.
However if you have re imported the files then any edits that have been actually saved to the files will be read by LR. You do have to actually write the edits to the files, either by choosing to do this automatically in LR's preferences or by clicking on the update metadata in LR, otherwise these edits are not written to the files (or as xmp files when using propitiatory file types. If you didn't write the changes to file then LR has nothing to read.

SMART is a technology that monitors the drive for signs of impending failure. You can verify that SMART is indicating a problem in Disk Utility. Select the hard drive and look at the bottom of the window. It should look like this:
If the SMART status is not "Verified" then you should back up your drive and start shopping for a new one.

Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

Since I installed the new OS X Lion, the iCal syncing through iTunes is not working properly.

Since I installed the new OS X Lion, the iCal syncing through iTunes is not working properly.
When I sync my MacBook Pro with my iPhone and iPad, the events set in both devices (iPhone & iPad) are not transfered to the iCal on my labtop. Events created in both devices are transfered and copied betwen them when I sync them with the iTunes app (through the MacBook Pro) but they are not trasfered/copied into the labtop (iCal). The events created in the iCal (on my MacBook) are tranfered to the devices as two events on same hour. One, with the description created on the iCal, and the other as a New Event (no description). This is happening since I installed the new OS X Lion last week.
I file a report and talked with an Apple Support Representative, but they could not help me. They have not receive any other reports on this matter. Do someone has confronted this issue. I need to find out how to solve this problem.

Thank you very much for your help. It just worked fine. I have 4 macs in my company for 25 years (one is updated each year), and it is the first time I could not solve a problem for weeks. It gave me the opportunity to join this great community.

Cant install mountain lion on a new hard drive 2011 mac pro 17"

for some reason I bought the infamous 2011 mac pro, and the hard drive kept having IN/OUT problems and after it destroyed half day of work, I decided to get a new hard drive, *blue WD 500g" but i have tried EVERYTHING and i just cant install mountain lion on it.
1.- i tried forcing the recovery mode so It would connect to the internet and download mountain lion but after 10 min or so i trows the -2002f error at me
2.- I tried to use the old hard drive that i put on a external hard drive reader so I could get the recovery partition but i just keep restarting the installation no reason given
3.- downloaded the mountain lion and tried to installing it on the system hard drive of the laptop trough a computer running snow leopard but dosn't let me.
4.- tried the same thing on target mode without success
5.- using the recovery partition I used disk utility to se of the partition was locked but it was not
6.- created a different partition to see if it would install it there didn't work.
i just don't understand why
any toughs?

Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button.      sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
     /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

Brand new Mac, had to erase drive through disk utility as time machine back up failed. Now disk utility only has the option to install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow. Anyone any ideas as my Mac won't load anything up but disc utility!

Brand new Mac, had to erase drive through disk utility as time machine back up failed on initial setup, USB cable popped out Now can only access disk utility as won't load to log in screen. The only has the option in disc utility is to re-install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow or loading another time machine back up but after an hour of it processing, that didn't resolve the issue either! The time machine back up is the latest back up of my Mac Book Pro which was using OS X Maverix. I'm guessing I'm going to have to take my Mac to the store but that would be a hassle so does anyone have any ideas?

Follow this guide using another Mac.
Insert your newly created Mavericks USB into you Mac, press the power button and then hold down 'option,' until it gives you an option to boot from the USB. You will then be able to erase the internal disk with Disk Utility and reinstall Mavericks straight after.
After that you should be able to use Migration Assistant to restore your applications and user data.
