New install on Mac, won't run

Just received and installed LV / Lego Mindstorms on a Mac running OS X 10.7. The installation seemed to proceed normally with no error messages. However, the software seems partially dysfunctional.
I began the first tutorial where you create a Robot Project. Entered a name, and saw a "path preview", clicked "Create" button. No further progress past this point:
The "Robot Project Center" window did not appear as expected. It appears that no new files were created, and there is no folder called "Projects" in the NXT Robotics folder. The app then returns to the Getting Started window, and behaves as though I have done nothing.  I can't get any further with the new tutorial project.
There is no uninstaller on the disc, and the instructions in "uninstall.txt" are complex, time-consuming, and perhaps dangerous. (I get nervous trying to make a lot of manual deletions in my root directory and system folders. I'm afraid of screwing something up accidentally.)
I'd appreciate help fixing this. I think I've gone about as far as I can.

Hi Dennyc,
Sounds like the Robot Project Center is functional, but there must be an error creating the project on disk. Do you have write permissions to the NXT Robotics folder?
The default location is Documents\LabVIEW Data\NXT Robotics\Projects.
The Projects folder should be created the first time you create an NXT project.
As a workaround, I have attached a blank robot project you can use as a template. Just double click the lvrbt file and it should open in the Robot Project Center.
Hope this helps.

  • New install of ARD won't run

I just purchased a copy of the unlimited ARD and it appears to install fine from the CD. Then when I clik on RD in the applications folder, it says "Remote Desktop is installing required components" and then quits RD.
Then, if I clik RD it does the same thing. From the discussion I've looked at the logs and there is this, and quite a few of them apparently indicating an image is not found,
    Contents/Support/ARDSelfInstall
    2007-03-28 10:05:17.522 Remote Desktop[2504] CFLog (21): Error loading /Library/QuickTime/LiveType.component/Contents/MacOS/LiveType: error code 4, error number 0 (Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LiveType.framework/Versions/A/LiveType
    Referenced from: /Library/QuickTime/LiveType.component/Contents/MacOS/LiveType
    Reason: image not found)
    2007-03-28 10:05:17.616 Remote Desktop[2504] CFLog (21): Error loading /Library/QuickTime/DivX 5.component/Contents/MacOS/DivX 5: error code 4, error number 0 (Library not loaded: /Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks/liblame3.92.dylib
    Referenced from: /Library/QuickTime/DivX 5.component/Contents/MacOS/DivX 5
    Reason: image not found)
So, where do I go from here?

The "image not found" in the log portion you posted appears to have nothing to do with ARD. Those are being generated by a QuickTime error, possibly an obsolete version of the DivX component and/or an corrupted installation of LiveType.
For the ARD problem, first, are you logged in as a user with Administrator privileges? If not, log in as an admin and try again. Try this:
    • Insert your ARD CD
    • Open in Finder
    • Right click on the Remote Desktop.mpkg and show contents
    • Navigate to contents/installers
    • Drag the RemoteDesktopAdmin.pkg file onto the workstation and install
    • Run Software Update
    • Upgrade to 3.1 admin
Otherwise, you may have to completely uninstall ARD and then reinstall it. Follow these instructions for the uninstall:

  • New Install Contribute 4 won't run

I am doing some work from home for my boss. She gave me her
version of Contribute 4 to use so that I can update our website
whenever I have the time. I have tried 2 times to install the
software and run it. Both times, the installation wizard told me
that installation was successful, but neither time have I been able
to open the program to enter the serial number and get started. Any
    ideas?

Never mind. After 4 hours, I came back to my computer and it
    was running. How strange...

  • Java JDK 7 u17 won't install and Eclipse won't run past boot logo.

Java JDK 7 u17 won't install and Eclipse won't run past boot logo. Eclipse Classic used to work fine for awhile. I haven't used it for a month or two and tried to boot it, Eclipse won't run past boot logo. It looks like JDK is not even there anymore. JDK won't install successfully. I have Mac OS X 10.8.3.
I tried removing Java, re-download JDK multiple times.. same results.
    MyComputer-MacBook-Air:~ MyComputer$ java -version
    java version "1.7.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_17-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.7-b01, mixed mode)

Paul Adare is correct in saying that you cannot "upgrade" from 32-bit to 64-bit. You can, however, backup your files and reload them onto your PC.
Given that you are able to boot Windows 7 after the failure to install Windows 10 Technical Preview, it is apparent that you are not formatting the drive during your clean installation. There are a number of potential issues an existing configuration can
cause, such as preventing Windows Setup from registering boot files, modifying partitions, or moving an existing installation and data to the windows.old folder. I would recommend removing the partitions from your drive (note: this will erase any data remaining
on the hard disk) during installation to ensure that Windows Setup has a fresh hard drive to install to. If you continue to experience errors, two other factors to take into consideration are:
Does your system use a storage controller that requires loading a driver during Windows Setup?
Is the hardware malfunctioning? Do the hard disk and memory pass testing software like Windows Memory Diagnostic or chkdsk?

I am on Windows XP. Updated to latest iTunes but it would not install. Tried again and the system hung. I did a restart and iTunes had completely vanished from my system. Tried to do a new install but it won't finalise. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

OK, lets do a complete overhaul to make sure it's working ok.
First to check your Windows system file for any corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.
If it doesn't, will have to go through the whole process of uninstalling and installing acccording to the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
(Referenceinstructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components)
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • New install of CS3 won't open NEF (Nikon RAW) images

New install of CS3 on my new PC laptop won't open NEF (Nikon RAW) images. Same PC product opens them on my older desktop, and CS5 for MAC opens them on my iMAC.
What am I missing? CS3 has been registered and activated. Thank you

    Hi, Again, John,
I followed the instructions to the letter, and nothing worked. I still got the wrong kind of file message. After I tried to use the plug-in, I could no longre open pages in IE or Firefox. I have to wipe my new computer and reinstall everything. This time, I made CS3 the first thing I installed, and followed the instruction again as follows:
    "Windows
    ®
    1. Exit Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open My Computer.
    3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
    4. Navigate to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats.
    5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to anot
her location (for example, a new folder on your
desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, fr
om the download into the same folder as Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge."
Still unable to open RAW images in PS. I did notice that the two files I copied to the desktop folder were the same, although one was slightly larger than the other. I chose to keep both.
Why is CS3 working on my desktop from the same disk with no plu-in, but not on my new laptop? Is it Windows 8.1 instead of XP? That doesn't make much sense. PLEASE help. This is insane.

  • Updated my 2008 MacBook Pro to Mavericks. Tuneup for Mac won't run w/10.9.  what do I use for housekeeping?

Updated my 2008 MacBook pro to Mavericks.Lost some programs that won't run on Mavericks.  One being Tuneup for Mac. Used for housekeeping and cleaning up the machine.  Can't figure out how run maintenance on drive w/o this.  Seached for scheduled maintenance in help, nothing.

"Scheduled" maintenance is all done by the OS - there's nothing you should run for "housekeeping". DO yourself a favor with the new OS and read...

  • New version of Firefox won't run

I updated from an earlier version (using Firefox Setup 2.0.0.14) to the latest version (using Firefox Setup 9.0.1) but then Firefox wouldn't run. (It ran in the background, but no window would open.) I tried several times, including a complete uninstall with deleting all personal data and Firefox-related folders etc. and then a new install. Finally, I decided to reinstall the older version and now Firefox works fine again. Windows Vista.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • JAVA !! I've un/re-installed, updated- done everything and even though my MAC says it's installed, it still won't run.  This is a recurring problem, I wanna scream!!

Why won't JAVA run even after uninstalling, reinstalling, and my MAC says the latest version is installed.
    What is the blasted problem??
    Thank u

To do what you want, you need to download and install the Oracle Java web plugin from java.com.
Before doing that, please see below.
Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was always a bad idea, and Java's developers have proven themselves incapable of implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style virus affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful.
Fortunately, client-side Java on the Web is obsolete and mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice. Forget about playing games or other non-essential uses of Java.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it — not JavaScript — in your browsers.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a task on a specific site, enable Java only for that site in Safari. Never enable Java for a public website that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, login-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site.

  • O.T.  New Macs Won't Run Tiger

    For information :
Over on another Adobe Forum I came across a thread which pointed out that the latest Mac incarnations will not boot up with the Tiger software. So, if you or your software don't like
Leopard, now installed as standard, you can't go back to 10.4xxxx

This is true of all macs, Malcolm. They can never successfully boot from any version of the OS earlier than the one they ship with. So if your mac came with 10.4.7, it is iffish whether you can boot from a retail disk even of Tiger (which would have 10.4.0, of course.)
That's always been the way. A mac that came with system 9 couldn't run system 7, either.

  • CS4 Soundbooth Mac won't run

Installing the CS4 Soundbooth goes fine on Leopard/Intel, then on 1st run it says needs to download some codecs and that fails after about 25% or so. Then it starts normally and a few seconds later when the full SB interface is open, it just hard crashes closed. You can not click anything on the menu bar. I have tried two different source discs for the install and it has the same result. I have no such issue with photoshop cs4, acrobat etc. Anyone else ever see this on a mac install? Any ideas what else I could try? Thanks.

    Durin-
    Thank you.
I think I fixed the problem.
I ran Soundbooth with all startup programs turned off and it worked.
I then checked the applications loading on startup and
saw that the application "Hear" was one of those automatically
    loading.
I eliminated "Hear" from the startup list and Soundbooth then
    worked properly.
Thanks again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I solved the
    problem for good.
