New Installation CS6 - New PC - Upgrade

Hey all .. I have been trying in vain to open a support case in order to ask this question but can't for the life of me find where to go to do that.
So I thought I'd post in the forum and see how we go.
Story is, I originally purchased Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 back in the day and over the years I have purchased upgrades. I'm currently at CS5.5.
I am about to build a new PC for video editing and I would like to install CS6 on the new PC.
So, do I need to start at the beginning again and install CS4 on my new PC or can I simply purchase and install the CS6 upgrade fresh on my new PC without having to install any of the previous versions?

Personally I'd recommend you sign up for the creative cloud membership. You can use your CS4 license key in order to recieve a big discount on the monthly pricing. If you simply provide your cs4 licnese key during sign up you'll only have to pay 29.99 per month and you'll get access to adobes "latest and greatest". You'll be able to use the Master Collection. So any app you want to use you can just download using your creative cloud account. I personally feel this is probably the best option for you. The other great thing is that you never get stuck with old out of date software again. Because as soon as they realease their new Suite you get access as long as your membership is still going. So if you do the math 29.99x12 months =  359.00USD which is much cheaper than paying 2500 USD and buying the master collection. Plus you have to remember with creative cloud you won't ever get stuck with a old version... So IMO this pricing plan works great for me, another reason I like it is because it's more affordable for me to spend 29.99USD a month instead of spending several thousand. However it all comes down to what you want to do.  You have to access the internet once a month though, so it can verify you made your payment, but everyone has internet these days so that isn't a big deal for most people.
(All you have to do is sign up a creative cloud account, then from there log in to your creative cloud account and start to download the apps you want to use. Then install them and you're ready to roll)

  • How to mesure/benchmark performance of a new database on new server?

    Hi there
    I have two oracle servers with following (same) details:
    RHEL 5.8 64-bit
    Oracle 10gR2 - 10.2.0.5.8
    ASM 10gR2 - 10.2.0.5.8
    Server A: RAM 32GB, 8 CPUs @ 3.00GHz
    Server B: RAM 128GB, vCPUs 16 cores
    Server A (physical server) already has a database A. Server B (on VMWare - yes, my client is moving all Oracle servers to VMware for whatever reason) is a new installation and new database B with exact same init params as databas A. I expdp the data from database A and impdp into database B.
    As per the hardware team, the hardware is better than the old server B. I did a very basic test to check if new DB performs better than that on physical server. Here is the results:
    I ran a simple query to create a new table. The original table (say, table_a) contains 1.7+ million rows and size is 2.2GB.
    create table test1
    as
    select * from table_a;
    It took 3:28mins on database B while it took only 1:55mins on database A. So the new database B seems to be performing poor (apparently). Then I looked at the explain plan (not sure if it means much because it s a very simple query) and here it is from both databases:
    Database A (physical server
    Plan
    SELECT STATEMENT ALL_ROWS
    Cost: 14,052  Bytes: 2,161,302,003  Cardinality: 16,250,391
    1 TABLE ACCESS FULL TABLE table_a
    Cost: 14,052  Bytes: 2,161,302,003  Cardinality: 16,250,391
    Database B (virtual server)
    Plan
    SELECT STATEMENT ALL_ROWS
    Cost: 59,844  Bytes: 2,161,302,003  Cardinality: 16,250,391
    1 TABLE ACCESS FULL TABLE table_a
    Cost: 59,844  Bytes: 2,161,302,003  Cardinality: 16,250,391
    Questions:
    1. Why is the cost different? Should I "compute statistics" on database B (virtual server)?
    2. How to investigate further and find out reason for the time difference?
    3. What other benchmark test can I run to make sure that I have the right database configuration?
    Not sure if this is enough info - if not, please let me know what else should I provide.
    The team I have to hand-over this server is refusing to accept it by saying that it is slower than the existing one.
    Please advise!
    Best regards

    Wow... I am really thankful for everyone's input - this is really really appreciated!
    I will try what you all have suggested. In the meantime, I did some simple test on both databases and here are the results:
    Create table t1
      (1.7million rows)
    Create index on
      two columns on t1
    Create table t2
      500000 rows
    Create Index on
      two columns on t2
    Delete from t1
      (500000 rows)
    Insert into t1
      500000 rows
    Drop  table t2
    Drop table t1

    Now, the database on Server B (VMware) seems to be outperforming that on Server A except for the "Create index on two columns on t1" column.
    Any clues why index creation is consistently taking longer on the database B (on VM) as compared to that on database A (physical server)?
    @jgarry: I am not in a position to try SLOB (no doubt a good tool with lots of reputation) because it requires to create a new DB (which I cannot do on the existing server). I did try "HammerDB" but unfortunately it crashed on each attempt to test the load.

    please any advice

    Hi,
    I would never recommend doing an OS upgrade of a domain controller.
    The preffered method is to:
    1. Build a new 2012 R2 Server
    2. Install the Domain Controller role
    3. Promote the server to a domain controller - this will extend the schema of your AD to support 2012 - whilst generally fairly safe to do ensure you have relevant backups in place for your domain / forest
    4. Transfer FSMO roles to your new 2012 DC
    You can then go ahead and demote the 2008 DC, rebuild it to 2012, and re-promote it do a DC again. Keep doing this for all your DC's
    Also you would need to upgrade your exchange first as Exchange 2003 isn't supported with 2012 domain controllers.

  • Satellite L500-126: Win7 upgrade -can I re-activateit after new installation?

    I successfully upgraded Windows 7 from my OEM Vista yesterday.
    What if in the future, I need to reinstall the whole system?
    Can I re-activate Win 7 after the new installation?
    PS. My OEM Vista is 64 bit version and my win 7 is the ultimate 64 bit upgrade version
    THX

    I hope I understand your question right so here is what I know about it:
    When you upgrade original preinstalled Vista you don't need to activate Win7 but if you make clean Win7 installation then you must activate preinstalled version.
    With other words to have activations-free Win7 you must install Vista at first using Toshiba recovery DVD and then upgrade it to Win7.

  • Differents between upgrade installation and new installation

    Our processes have some misbi
    Our processes sometimes misbehave. We don't know the cause. We have a DR site so we moved everything there and then everything worked with no issue. The applications are using SQL 2012
    SP2.
    All the servers are the same in the DR site as the primary site, One of the things we know to be different is that the SQL server installation in the primary site is an upgrade from 2008,
    and the one in the DR site is a new installation of SQL 2012.
    Do you think there could be a different behaver that is related to type of installation?
    Does it make scenes to reinstall the SQL in the primary site as new installation rather than upgrade?

    Hello,
    Adding to Shanky response, do the DR SQL Server instances were configured the same (about parallelism, memory, tempdb,
    etc.)?
    Hope this helps.

  • New installation -v- upgrading

    Would I be better off doing a clean install of Snow Leopard instead of upgrading on my iMac and MacBook Air, both 6 weeks old. As I am new to the world of Mac I already have my documents on a 3rd party disk drive, so I have no issues other than installing a few programs such as iWork.
    Would I benefit more to clean install?

    akcarrington wrote:
    Would I benefit more to clean install?
    You should know that Apple recommends the default install method, which is not what most users call a "clean" install unless the target volume has no OS on it -- for instance, if it is erased or reformatted. Among experienced Mac users, there is no consensus of opinion if a 'clean install' is better or worse, prudent or a waste of time, or whatever.
    My own opinion is that among those that recommend a clean install of some sort, many are basing their opinions on the old (& no longer entirely applicable) install methods of pre-Snow Leopard installers or on vague ideas about "old bits & bytes" that should be purged from the drive that would otherwise somehow cause problems with the new OS. Some just seem to prefer a "hands on" approach or trust their own skills & understanding about what to install more than they trust the programming built into the new installer. Many just don't like the idea of any unused files taking up hard drive space.
    However, some reasons are more specific, suggesting a clean install is necessary in certain circumstances, for instance when the HD has formatting or file system problems, & that in effect it is better to be safe than sorry, since users might not know these problems exist.
    If this was all there was to it, then it would unquestionably be the best general advice. But it isn't.
    For one thing, the new installer has built-in features that depend on a previous installation to decide what to install, such as Rosetta, QuickTime Player 7, & some print drivers. For another, the installer will move certain incompatible applications from an existing installation to an "Incompatible Applications" folder. It also checks the target disk (much like Disk Utility's "Verify Disk") & "phones home" for Leopard-to-Snow Leopard compatibility updates. These steps can be done separately by knowledgeable users & to some extent can be considered no more than conveniences, but that is what many users like about Macs vs. PC's, so that should be taken into account on a user by user basis.
    More importantly, a clean install requires recreating or migrating existing system & user settings & such, sometimes manually, & this is both time consuming & potentially a source of errors or unnecessary hassles, especially among less knowledgeable users.
    My advice is to consider both the pros & cons of a clean install & decide what is best for you.

  • Re-installation on new formatted drive. How to de-activate previously installed CS6 Master Collection?

    Greets.
    I had my entire CS6 Master Collection installed and activated with Adobe servers - but main drive died.
    Now I have a newly formatted drive with a fresh Win7 installation on it. I wish to re-install my entire CS6 collection again.
    As far as I recall, we have to DEACTIVATE all our installed softwares BEFORE activating any newer installations?
    If so, since I did not de-activate the softwares from my dead drive (which I cannot access now anyway) - how can I de-activate it now? I see no option to do so on my online account.
    Can anyone advise please.
    If a Customer Service Rep is reading this - can you please DE-ACTIVATE all my CS6 Master Collection softwares please - so I can re-install them again.
    Many thanks.

    You need to contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations - you will need the serial number.
    Chat support - For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...
    Serial number and activation chat support (non-CC)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service1.html ( http://adobe.ly/1aYjbSC )
    You are allowed to have two activated installations, so if you are waiting for the weekend to pass to get their attention, you can install and activate as long as you only had the one activation used so far.  When they reset the activations you can reactivate again afterwards (or deactivate the new one yourself ahead of chatting with them).

    I had the same problem with my BPC 7 installation yesterday and followed all the proposed solutions in this thread with no luck. When I checked,  the OSoftResSvrZFP_EN.dll was missing - you might be missing this too. Anyway, I solved it by running the BPC 7.0 server installation exe and then selected 'Repair'.

    The Adobe XMP Team

    Hi,
    i used the previous version of the java XMPCore. I tried to upgrade however i got the following exception (using java 1.5 and 1.6):
    java.lang.AbstractMethodError: javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory.setFeature(Ljava/lang/String;Z)V
        at com.adobe.xmp.impl.XMPMetaParser.createDocumentBuilderFactory(Unknown Source)
        at com.adobe.xmp.impl.XMPMetaParser.<clinit>(Unknown Source)
        at com.adobe.xmp.XMPMetaFactory.parseFromBuffer(Unknown Source)
        at com.adobe.xmp.XMPMetaFactory.parseFromBuffer(Unknown Source)
    On further investigation the problem is, that you are trying to call a method
    factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
    on an abstract class however you are not catching that error, as you propably intended to.
    The code has been introduced into the new version:
    class XMPMetaParser.java:
    try
                // honor System parsing limits, e.g.
                // System.setProperty("entityExpansionLimit", "10");
                factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
            catch (Exception e)
                // Ignore IllegalArgumentException and ParserConfigurationException
                // in case the configured XML-Parser does not implement the feature.
    The exception is of the type "Error" and thus won't be catched by the "catch (Exception)" block at this point. If you change the following to:
    try
                // honor System parsing limits, e.g.
                // System.setProperty("entityExpansionLimit", "10");
                factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
            catch (Throwable t)
                // Ignore AbstractMethodError, IllegalArgumentException and ParserConfigurationException
                // in case the configured XML-Parser does not implement the feature.
    or to
    try
                // honor System parsing limits, e.g.
                // System.setProperty("entityExpansionLimit", "10");
                factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
            catch(Error e){
                // Ignore AbstractMethodError in case there is no implementation at all
            catch (Exception e)
                // Ignore IllegalArgumentException and ParserConfigurationException
                // in case the configured XML-Parser does not implement the feature.
    Everything is working as aspected again...

  • Can't start UCM server after new installation of 11.1.1.8 on Microsoft server 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit EE

    Hi All
    After new installation of WCC 11.1.1.8 on Microsoft server 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit EE UCM_server1 can’t start. (Please see trace below). WCC 11.1.1.7 run without issues on this environment.
    Steps:
    1. Installation of jrockit-jdk1.6.0_45-R28.2.7-4.1.0
    2. Installation of WLS 10.3.6
    3. Installation of WCC 11.1.1.8

    6. Run Admin - (success)
    7. Run NodeManager (optional) - (success)
    8. Run UCM_server1 – failed
    Still not works after patching MLR 1 for WCC 11.1.1.8 or upgrade from 11.1.1.7 .
    From log files we can saw that problem caused by JniNativeOsUtils.dll file in “<Middleware Home>\Oracle_ECM1\ucm\idc\components\NativeOsUtils\lib\windows-amd64\7.2.1.1”
    I replaced JniNativeOsUtils.dll with same file from 11.1.1.7 version and UCM_server1 starts work
    I got errors during startup (syNativeOsUtilsNotLoaded and UnsatisfiedLinkError - you can foun them in trace below), but WCC up and works.
    I also get error when trying to start SystemProperties or ComponentWithard utility:
         Activation context generation failed for "C:\Oracle\MIDDLE~1\USER_P~1\domains\WCC_DO~1\ucm\cs\bin\SystemProperties.exe". Hi All
    Cause of the problems was the missing of "Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package"
    Environment works fine after installation of both versions (x86 and x64)

  • What can I remove from a new installation to free up space

    I use Retrospect to backup 10.4.6. I only use the Mac for Logic Audio - and I've got 20GB of files on a new installation.
    This seems a bit high?
    Is there a way to cut down the total size of the files by 5GB - or some significant amount?

    Hi Les,
    Is you HD partitioned? If so, then non-Apple apps could be moved to the other partition. For example, I have Quicken and M$ Office on the 2nd non OS Partition. If Upgrades or ??? ask you where to put them then the other partition is safe. Apple apps should stay in the OS part or they won't upgrade properly.
    Putting them on a bootable FW HD may be possible but I have no exprience w that.

    Hello
    I transfer all my data iMac to my new iMac. Creative cloud is damaged. Download a new installateur but it can't work

    Transferring applications between machines will not work.  You need to install using installations files.  Uninstall and Try using the CS Cleaner Tool before installing.
    Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
    helps resolve installation problems for CS3 thru CS6 and for Creative Cloud

  • Fonts not available in new installation of Illustrator

    Just installed Creative Cloud Illustrator and there are no fonts. Photoshop installed fine, but there are no fonts available in Ai - the font menu is completely greyed out. New installation of both so no existing font library. Running Windows 7.

    Did you receive any error messages when installing Illustrator?  You can verify by following the directions listed at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html to review your installation logs.
    You may also want to try following the steps listed in Fonts don''t appear in the Font menu (InDesign 2.x, CS, and CS2) - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/fonts-dont-appear-font-menu.html as they could be relevant.

  • New installations

    I'm planning out a new installation of Sun VDI using VirtualBox as the desktop providers. If we deploy before 3.1 is released does anybody know what the supported upgrade paths will be? Would I have to install 3.0 and then upgrade to 3.1 when it's released, or is there an upgrade path from 3.1 EA? 3.0 is not sufficient so I would either have to postpone, which I'm not sure I can do, or go with a different solution.

    Upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1 will be supported but there won't be an upgrade path from 3.1EA to 3.1.
    Geoff.
