  • Oracle 10g R2 installation with ASM+RAC

    Gurus,
    Need some suggestuon on Oracle 10g R2 installation with ASM and RAC option.
    We have found many documents on the Oracle, HP, HP-Oracle CTC and third party web sites, but nothing that is specific to this particular combination of separate
    ORACLE_HOMEs, ASM and 10g RAC CRS. It is unclear for me from the documentation how this combination of ASM and 10.2g RAC may best be installed.
    The high level steps i got after reading lot of docs as follows - but i am not sure whether these are correct or not. if they are correct, can any one share their experience/notes please?
    1) Install CRS
    2) Install RDBMS for ASM HOME - create separater oracle home for ASM instance using OUI
    3) Install RDBMS for RAC Database Home - create separater oracle home for RAC database using OUI
    4) Create ASM database using DBCA -
    5) Use dbca to create database.

    Oracle provides 'paint by numbers' tutorials called 'Oracle By Example'. (Go to OTN, check under the Training tab)
    They have one for a Windows based ASM/RAC that you might want to review. Not your specific environment, but the steps will be dag-nabbed close.
    I recommend walking the path (http://otn.oracle.com >> training:OBE >> Database 10g Release 1:VMWare:Installation

    Hi Experts,
    I would like to install Oracle Database 11g R2 on Windows 2008 with ASM .
    Since I want to do it as a standalone database server , I did not confiugre any shared storage. I have a single disk on my machine with 1 TB space.
    There is a free space of 750 GB and want to use that space for ASM disks.
    Can someone guide me on how to configure ASM disks ?.

  • Migrating Non ASM, Non RMAN to New Server with ASM and RMAN - Possible?

    We currently have a database ( Oracle 10g R1 ) on a Sun Solaris server that is NOT using ASM or RMAN. The database is about 300GB. We are getting a new server and we want to install Oracle 10g R2 with ASM and RMAN and migrate the database.
    I have seen the documentation on migrating non ASM to an ASM server but the methods all use RMAN. Is it possible to migrate to an ASM database without using RMAN? Would datapump import/export work if I created a new database on the new server with all the same tablespaces? Or, do I have to bite the bullet, install RMAN on the old server and do the backup?
    Thanks.

    If you're not using RMAN that doesn't mean you can't use it to perform a single backup, rman is contained in every oracle RDBMS installation version 10G or higher.
    this is only a sample of how to do it
    RMAN> CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '<file_system_path>/%U.DBF';
    --first we allocate the channel default channel.
    RMAN>RUN
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL DEFAULTCHANNEL TYPE DISK;
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    STARTUP MOUNT;
    BACKUP DATABASE;
    SHUTDOWN
    }then once you have it, you can do what you want.
    It should also be possible to manually restore the database from the original datafiles but it's better to follow the solution involving RMAN.

  • Change in hardware key on new installation with same SID

    Dear Experts,
    Background:
    We installed SAP Netweaver 7.3 EHP1 on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and applied SAP License on it.
    So there was a specific SID, Hardware key and Installation No to our installation.
    After few months our Server machine got crashed and we formatted it.
    Problem:
    Now we want to install SAP Netweaver 7.3 EHP1 again on same Server machine.
    Here question is:
    1. Will the Hardware Key be same if I install SAP Netweaver 7.3 EHP1 with the same SID as it was before ?
    Note: We want to apply the same license that was there before the crash. But we can apply same license if and only if after installing with same SID as before, system generates the same Hardware Key as before Crash !!
    Other Information:
    Information that we got from SAP Note (94998 - Requesting license keys and deleting systems ) that :
    "  For the following data changes, you require a new license key:
    Customer hardware key - database - installation number - system ID.
    Thanks in advance for your apt responses.

    Hi Muddassar,
    With OS reinstallation , the HW Key will change.
    I suggest you apply for a new License with the new Hardware Key.
    Was this a Test System??
    You said after few Months , the system Crashed.
    Have you taken a Backup (Windows System State) ??

  • Database installation with ASM

    Hello,
    I just install a new RAC server with 2 nodes.
    Linux RedHat4 /oracle 10gR2.
    I have a disk RAID5 : /dev/sdc--->/dev/raw/raw1
    RAID5 : /dev/sdc--->/dev/raw/raw2
    RAID1 : /dev/sdd--->/dev/raw/raw3
    When I create my database I need to put my datafiles in RAID5 and my redologs in RAID1.
    How I can do this with ASM? I have to create 3 disk groups (+DATA,+FRA and +REDOLOG)?

    You dedicate disks to an ASM diskgroup in the CREATE DISKGROUP statement. If you have 2 disks (one RAID5, one RAID1) you can have only 2 diskgroups. The first one points to RAID5 (datafiles), the second one to RAID1 (redologs). Later on you have to put datafiles into group1 and redologs into group2.
    This document is a good description, how to deal with ASM:

  • 11gR2 Database Installation with ASM - NOT RAC

    Hi ,
    Im littel bet confused about the "Grid Infrastructure" in 11gR2.
    In oracle 10gR2 i had to install oracle software twice.
    1. one for the rdbms instance and the second software on for the ASM instance.
    2. Then from the asm home i run dbca and choose "configure automatic storage management" and continue with the installation.
    3. Finally i run dbca from the rdbms home and attached the dabs to the asm.
    11gR2 intreduce the "Grid Infrastructure" also asm with for non-rac installation .
    I would like to know if i still need to install twice the oracle software (once for the asm home and second for the rdbms home) and
    only then continue with the "Grid Infrastructure" , or the : "Grid Infrastructure" already contain the asm software , for the asm home
    Thanks

    Is that true that you have to install a separate set of binaries for ASM and one for the RDBMS. I don't think it is in either 10g or 11gr1.
    I do know that in 11gr2 you only need one home for the ASM_HOME and CRS_HOME which saves one installation.

  • Cannot Connect to new Installation with Admin Tool

    Have installed BPC 7.5 SP4 Patch 4 on Windows 2008 64-bit.  App/Web Server on one machine, SQL Server 2008 on 2nd machine,
    Everything seems fine except access via servername - servername used in all the settings.
    When trying to access the Administration to start installing new appsets, connect using ip address in admin tool and login using the software install user but will not verify user name/password.
    Does anyone have any idea of the issue?
    thanks
    Lesley

    In that case, I'd suggest you make sure both ethernet ports are unplugged from the RAID, power it off and on, plug a cable directly from a laptop to the RAID, set the IP of your laptop to 169.264.11.11 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0, then do "ping 255.255.255.255" and you should see a response from the IP address used by the RAID.
    This question is very common here... there are other threads where I've answered this so I won't clarify further here.

  • New installation with cable under carpet

    Just had FIOS installed last week.   Very happy with internet speed and quality of television.  BUT my wife was home for the installation and the tech installed the cable from the box to the router under the carpet.   This is in my den on the first floor.  About a 10 foot  cable run with 3  feet under the carpet at a heavily trafficked door entrance....this cable will be walked on all the time and I am worried about the wear on the cable.  Doesn't look that great either, but it is a den and I can live with the looks.
    I would have preferred running the cable up in the attic and then down or running the cable along the edge of the ceiling.
    Is it standard practice for Verizon to install cable under the carpet?  If the cable wears out will they be responsible for replacing?

    Verizon will run the cable in a "visible" way. running under the carpet is very common. Most tech's will not run it via the attic (unless you have a finished attic) and they try to avoid any drilling through walls, floors, and celings whenever possible. they likely did not even consider running it up the wall and along the edge of the celing as most people would have a problem with that.
    Your right to be concerned about it being under the carpet in a high traffic area. constant traffic pressure on the cable can evenutally break the copper wire in the cable leading to poor signal and picture problems on the tv. And no, they consider the wire on the inside of the house "yours" no matter if they installed it or someone else did. They will only warrenty the wire for 90 days after that, if it goes out you are responsible for the replacement. They will be happy to replace it for you but you will be billed for the material and labor to do it.
    I would do one of two things, Either call the FSC and see about getting someone out to re-run the cable. OR Employ an electrician or other certified cable installer to run the cables in the walls (Verizon cannot do this). This is what I did. I had an electrician run coax and ethernet to each of my rooms in the wall. It was a bit of money out of pocket to do, but it kept the girlfriend happy, and if the girlfriend (or wife as the case may be) is happy, we are happy.
    But if you are going to have Verizon do it, do it quickly as time is ticking.

  • 11gR2 installation with ASM

    Hi,
    I want to install a 11gR2 server that would use ASM to manage disks.
    It seems that in 11gR2 I must install grid infrastructure to install ASM even though I would not create a RAC database. Is that correct?

    Yes it is since now the ASM managment has been taken away from DBCA and is now done by ASMCA which runs only from the Grid Infrastructure's home. So you must need the Grid Infrastructure installed even when you are going to install a single instance database.

  • Installation with ASM question

    In reading one of the ASM install docs it says to install the OS and the Oracle home on the same drive. Is this really a requirement? The client is a windows shop, OS is Windows 2008 R1, Oracle 11.1.0.7. We want to install the OS on one drive and the Oracle home on another, will that cause issues for ASM?
    Thanks in advance.

    I do not think so. You should be able to install your ORACLE_HOME on a different partition or drive. Just out of curiosity: where exactly did you read this?

  • Installation of RAC with ASM on Solaris

    Hello Everybody
    I have to install and config oracle 10g RAC and ASM on Solaris, and as per my understanding network prerequisite is 3 IP's for each node,
    1) A public IP's registered on DNS and
    2) A virtual IP's registered on DNS, but NOT defined in the servers. can be defined later during Oracle Clusterware Install, And
    3) a private IP only known to the servers in the RAC configuration, to be used for the interconnect.
    The scenario is like
    The Servers & the Storage are in different Network and hence the public registered IP address & Virtual IP address is not possible. Only Private IP Address can be possible, But both the servers are accessible from to me Please confirm on the same.
    My question is
    Is is possible to build the RAC and ASM only with the private IP without the public and the virtual IP, if yes how?
    The setup is not going to be the part of any production or any development environment, I am new to this and just wanted to test the RAC installation with ASM.
    Your inputs or suggestion are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,
    for a 10g RAC you need:
    - a host-IP for every node
    - a private IP for every node
    - a virtual IP for every node
    Host-IP and Private IP must be assigned to both hosts and conenction between the hosts using either the host-IP or the private IP must be possible.
    Is is possible to build the RAC and ASM only with the private IP without the public and the virtual IP, if yes how?The term "private" and "public" does not refer to public IPs. It refers to the fact "private" is only for communication between the nodes and public for communication between the client and database.
    For a successful installation you need at least these three IPs on each system.
    So for instance your public IPs reside in the network 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 and your private interconnect network can be 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0. Both networks consists of private (i.e. non-routeable) IPs.

  • Problem in building an Eclipse installation with oomph

    Hallo,
    I am setting up an Eclipse distribution with several plugins needed to have a proper IDE for an Eclipse Project (GEF).
    When adding the plugins to Eclipse everything is Ok, until I install the Oomph Version Management Tool plugin.
    After installing the Oomph VMT Plugin, from the next startup I see the below error:
    Plugins contained in the Eclipse distribution.
    As specified in the GEF contributor guide, the GEF-IDE consists of
    Eclipse IDE for committers Mars R as base eclipse ( in my case is win32)
    API Tools Execution Environment Description v 1.0.1 from http://download.eclipse.org/releases/mars update site
    e(fx)clipse IDE - PDE version .2.0.0, from http://download.eclipse.org/efxclipse/updates-released/2.0.0/site/ update site
    m2e - Maven Integration for Eclipse - version 1.6.0, from http://download.eclipse.org/releases/mars update site
    Xtext Complete SDK - version 2.8.3, from http://download.eclipse.org/releases/mars update site
    Oomph Version Management Tool, from Oomph update site
    After installing the Oomph Version Management Tool plug-in, at the next Eclipse Startup I see the following error:
    An internal error occurred during: "Setup check".
    USER_HOME
    I was actually thinking my install was ok, but in bugzilla, I got that I did an "inconsistent installation" - see bug 473599.
    Indeed, I checked in the About eclipse features for the Oomph, and I saw the Version Management Tool version is not matching with Oomph Setup Core , but only for a small "delta"
    I tried to do an Update of the IDE using the Help > Check for updates, but I realized it is not a Complete IDE update , as suggested in the bug 473599.
    So, I have two questions:
    how to perform a Complete IDE Update ?
    how can I make a consistent installation, by assembling the five plugins above, including the Oomph version management ?
    Thank you very much for the time you're spending on my question.
    I hope my question does not seem impolite or excessively complex.
    Regards.

    Hi Patrik,
    The p2f file that you mentioned in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=473599 seems totally useless to me. It
    locks in specific versions of the listed IUs, no matter whether the identified repositories will provide those versions
    in the future or not. For example:
    <iu id='org.eclipse.oomph.setup.feature.group' name='Oomph Setup' version='1.2.0.v20150720-0925'>
    <repositories size='2'>
    <repository location='http://download.eclipse.org/oomph/updates'/>
    <repository location='http://download.eclipse.org/oomph/updates/latest'/>
    </repositories>
    </iu>
    A P2Director task in an Oomph setup model for GEF seems like a better alternative.

    I'm not 100% sure but I think you can't easily get out of this inconsistent state because the plugins that would do that
    for you are also impacted. I would recommend that you create a new installation with Oomph's Eclipse Installer.
    > how can I make a consistent installation, by assembling the five plugins above, including the Oomph version management ?
    I would suggest that you put pressure on the GEF people to provide a GEF project setup model, so that you can just add
    it to your install.
