how do I create a second instance of DS 5.2 using /usr/sbin/directoryserver ?
I simply want another ldap server on the same host (on a different port)

The configuration suffix is o=Netscaperoot. Creating a seperate config server on the same machine is a bit overkill, IMO. I could see doing this in a large environment, 10+ LDAP servers, lots of replication agreements etc. But in that case, the config server would manage all of the DS instances on the various machines. In my fairly small environment, I just let the installer create a config tree in the DS instance I initially setup.
I'm nervous about creating cross-server dependencies. What happens if my config server machine dies, now all of my LDAP servers are potentially hosed. By having each DS have its own config, a problem on one machine doesn't affect others.

All your assumptions are correct. Create a new instance and database and install HTML DB into that. Create a new DAD based on the one that was created by the installer and modify its settings to point to the newly created HTML DB install. The URLs you use to get to running applications on this new install depends on the name you use for the DAD.

Installing Oracle TEXT and XML DB Components on New Instance

I was told this may be the best place to ask my quesion
I have set up a New Instance or Oracle on a Solaris Unix box that already had Oracle 10g installed.
The instance was created fine, however I need the Oracle Text Component and XML DB Component installed as well.
Those are not installed with this instance. They are installed on the other instance on the box that was setup when oracle was first installed.
How can I add these components to this new instance?
DBCA was not used when the instance was created. The DBA here does not care for this tool.

1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

Internet Shortcuts saved on Desktop open new instance of Firefox 3.6 using clean profile--how can I make it open all shortcuts using current profile?

I rely heavily on Firefox's profiling ability to assist me in my web design projects. Lately, using Firefox 3.6, I have run into some problems with how it opens Internet Shortcuts that are saved locally (i.e.- shortcuts that reside on my Desktop). When I double-click on one of these shortcuts, a new instance of Firefox 3.6 is loaded with the saved website from the shortcut, but it's also initialized a fresh profile (i.e.- my bookmarks are gone, no add-ons, etc.--it's as if it uses some sort of "hidden" clean slate to load the shortcuts).
Is there any way to force Firefox to load all shortcuts into whatever profile I'm currently using at that given moment? I think the reason this has happened to begin with is because of the fact that I did some stuff to Internet Explorer awhile back that caused some problems with the Internet Shortcut associations and it all led to this eventuality.
I'm running Windows XP Pro and have the following profiles with my Firefox versions:

"Application" is "shdocvw"...
"DDE Application Not Running" is blank...

Again, I think the root problem here is to do with the profiles and how they're handled when being opened with Firefox but I can't discern how to apply a fix with all this as I've obviously goobered this up a bit. I would really appreciate some professional knowledge on this and would prefer to avoid any reinstalls of anything if possible.

To save your sanity with this issue, my advice is to find a method other than desktop shortcuts to open those URL's.
1. Desktop shortcuts are going to open the Default Browser.
a. With multiple versions of Firefox installed that would be the last version that was installed when you have Firefox set as the Default Browser in Windows..
b. The Default Browser is going to use the Profile that shows a Default=1 in the profiles.ini file.
c. The Default Browser with the Default Profile isn't going to open if you have any other versions of Firefox already running, and the -no-remote command line parameter doesn't work in this situation.
2. The use of multiple Profiles and multiple versions isn't officially supported by Mozilla, and all the Bug reports that I have ever read about Requests for Enhancement have been WONTFIX'd by the developers. Basically we have to work with the limitations in Firefox and maybe improvise work arounds by ourselves. I've even seen a few threats about removing Profiles altogether in RFE Bug reports about Profiles.
I have had so many problems over the years with this Default Browser / Default Profile thing over the years that personally I find it easier to just set Opera as the Default Browser in Windows rather than have a Profile get b0rked because some other program I am using decides it wants to open the Default Browser unexpectedly. I don't use Opera for much, but it is a lot better than IE for purposes of being the Default Browser, considering the quirks I have seen with Firefox and multiple Profiles.
I have written a number of postings over at the MozillaZine Builds forum over the years about installing multiple versions of Firefox and using multiple Profiles. There's a lot of tips and comments provided by other multiple Profile users in one of those threads. Why don't you read those threads and see if it gives you some ideas or solutions I haven't thought of.

How can we open a new instance of Firefox without URL bar and any other control (except PREV, NEXT and RELOAD)?

I am looking for a solution for Firefox Win App and Mobile Apps where on click of a button from the website page, we should be able to launch a new instance of firefox instance (like a popup box) with following features:
a. It SHOULD NOT have any URL bar to display.
b. It SHOULD NOT show any plug-ins or any other functionality except Previous, Next and Reload.
c. This instance of firefox should always be on-top of all other application.
Please advise, how firefox can be customized to offer in all platforms by default.

You would need your visitors to install some kind of add-on, since web pages do not have permission to block the display of the page address and users do not need to allow a new window to be modal and block other Firefox windows, much less other OS windows.
Over the years, people have developed extensions for kiosk-style displays. You could investigate those for ideas.

ORA - 01034 : ORACLE NOT AVAILABLE Error while creating new instance.

I was trying to create new instance in unix environment. I have configured all my shell scripts to run and install but while performing the install I get the
following error message and fails.
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
I have previously installed an instance using same scripts but fails this time when I copy the scripts and modify them in new folder. Pointed out the path in the scripts correctly.
I am a junior DBA and I would appriciate your help.

First get a Telnet session on your platform.
In the following, foo is the name of the database to be created. Obviously you will replace this in your script names and script contents with the name of the database you are about to create.
The values of parameters, filenames, distribution of files across filesystems, numbers and sizes of rollback segments and redo logs contained in these scripts should not be considered to be "recommended" in any way. Whlie creating a new instance, listener doesn't work

I got some problem while install a new instance.
Maybe listener configured incorrectly
please help me out.
I created a new instance(SID:BUS) by myself.
I didn't use DBCA or anyother tools
There's legacy instance on my NT server.
That's why I have to add a new instance.
Here's list of command I've issued
1. set initBUS.ora
2. register as a service
3. startup with nomount
4. issue create database command
5. run those script
@C:\oracle\ora92\rdbms\admin\catalog.sql
@C:\oracle\ora92\rdbms\admin\catproc.sql
@C:\oracle\ora92\sqlplus\admin\pupbld.sql
6. restart
The problem is I can't connect to new SID(BUS) even though I add new sid to listener.ora(legacy sid works fine)
I am sure that my new instance's listener works fine with this command
c:\>lsnrctl status
but it has unknown status ( I don't understand what stands for)
when I try connecto sid(BUS), system back this msg
SQL> conn sys/oracle as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adaptor error
what is the problem?
or which file or configure do I have to check?

Hello . I want to install a NW7.3 based BI system. I found reccomendation to start with ABAP instance an then start of Java central server installation
However I have checked option BI Java and additionaly I had EP, AS, EPC, and BASIC.
however on next screen I am asked about SAP system ID(I entered the ABAP installed one i.e. BI4)
However this gets recognized that BI4 is already existing after ABAP.
SAP system BI4 exists and is not suitable for this installation option. DIAGNOS: Valid instance type for this instalation optiion are SCS, ER2, j2eedi, J2eeci , but instance ASCS01 has different type
Solution: Choose a different SAP system ID or unistall the existing one
What to do?

Now when I have suceesfully installed both (java @abap systems) I wander how to connect them.
I red somewhere I should establish a JCO connection but I wander where
I found new netweawer administrator http://<host>:5<sysnr>00
JCO can be established via http://<host>:5<sysnr>00->configuration->infrastructure->JCO RFC provider.
But which programID to use and..
Is there somewhere some guide how to build BI out of this 2 (java @abap) systems. I only during java instalation entered users to get user communication between java@abap

SharePoint 2010 creates a new instance for SharePoint server.

I have installed SP 2010.My env is Windows server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 r2 (10.50.1600). When I install the SP 2010,
configuration wizard (Start the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard) directly goes to configuration wizard and installed SP 2010 server successfully.
It skips the below Manual configuration.
1. Specify Configuration DB settings
2. Specify Farm Security settings.
3. Configure CA Web Application settings. etc...
So I get the new SQL instance with the name <MachineName>\sharepoint.
This new Instance is looking SQL 2008 version(10.0.2531).
Now I face the below issues,
1. When I restore DB backup, i get the compatability issue
2. Unable to restore the SP2010 site which is backuped from SQL 2008 r2 (10.50.1600) has 9GB size.
3. Unable to extend the DB size from 4096 MB.
How to avoid create new SQL instance with the name <MachineName>\sharepoint and install in SQL server default <MachineName> instance?

thanks for the help. Now I have another Two questions. I'm search service application in SP 2010. It works fine when I search data from home sites it works fine.
1. When I search from within sub-sites i don't get any search results. What mistake I have done here?
Second question from Restore spsite...
2. When I restore the site in 80 port, the search service does not crawl and pick the new properties from the restore site. But when I restore the same site in another port<8080/8099/etc> the search service does crawl and pick the new
properties from the restore site. Why the service not working in 80 port.?
Note: I have checked with 3 test env my bak file. but all the 3 env gives same result.... 80 port does not crawl and pick the new properties.

Unable to create a new instance in Hyperion Conf Utility

Hi,
I have installed Planning 9.3.1 on XP Prof. Everything is configured correctly except for the instance. I try to create a new instance and system gives out the following -
"System failure : Error while retrieving xml from database"
I have re-installed and configured Planning thrice to check that error isn't on the installation side.
Guru's, please provide your insights on this. If the instance is created, I can start working on the applications..

I have two laptops - XP Prof and Windows 2003 Server. I am encountering the same problem on both. I have configured everything correctly with Shared Services. Only options that show pending are - Product Instance Registration and Deregister from Shared Services.
I have even started the services in the Same Order mentioned but to no use.
