New iOS 4.1 is a battery KiLLER!

As i bought my iPhone 3Gs I used the normal 3. ... iOS versions .Some weeks later i updated the iOS 4. Ok! nothing to say. But with 4.1 my battery is down on 55% after play 40 minutes, 30 minutes of music and 5 min at 3G internet. Also on Standby Mod, i lost 5% each hour.! ***????

Same here. But besides the battery drain (it's not constant, sometimes it behaves normally), there's an abnormal data exchange. Doing absolutely nothing, I can even have MBs of useless data downloaded; so annoying. Should we blame gamecenter for this? Time will tell (hoping it will be a short time, I think this is a widespread issue).

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

  • Bug in new WiFi sleep option may explain 'battery killing'?

Although the WiFi sleep option defaults to the supposed old behavior (WiFi stays connected), it doesn't have any effect. In fact, from what I can tell, WiFi always disconnects when you're sleeping, now, after a minute or so, regardless of the setting.
I've tried re-doctoring without any effect - this option just seems broken (and set to the new, less battery-friendly option permanently).
Perhaps this helps to explain why people are saying 1.4 is 'killing their battery'?

Previously, it seemed that the phone stayed connected to WiFi - thus, if I was logged into AIM, or waiting for email, and I was in a low coverage zone, I would stay connected to the network.
Now, regardless of the setting, after a minute or so the phone disconnects from WiFi. (I can't really tell if it's powering WiFi off completely - it doesn't seem to be.) So, I'm logged out of AIM, and don't get email. If I wake up the device, things reconnect.
That's definitely not how it seemed to behave in 1.3.5.1 -- or, at least, there's been some other change, since the behavior is quite different. I don't think I'm remembering wrong... it was only a few days ago!

  • The new iOS 6 is draining my battery so fast I can't believe it. Any ideas?

I can't believe how fast it's draining my battery. Seriously they have to fix this or let us downgrade. 4 s doesn't get 4 G like the i5 so we shouldn't have this bad of a battery drain. If I knew it was going to be this bad I never would of upgraded. Now I'm going to but the battery case but apple still has to do something about this. Anyone have any ideas or opinion on this?

Totally agree. My battery last 2-3 hours, even after I turned off location services, location services, auto-brightness, and a million other things. APPLE, PLEASE COME OUT WITH A FIX SOOOOON or else I'm switching phones. I need a phone to last at least a DAY for emergencies, etc. PLEASE, we're begging you! Any other ideas? My iTunes on my phone also doesn't play my songs right away...it takes like a minute to load and play a single stinkin song! So lame

  • A new iOS update and another new battery issue on the iPhone 5

Has anyone else contacted Apple support and been given te same old "solutions" on the battery issues?
    1) Turn off location services.
    2) Turn off background app updates.
    3) Restore as a new device.
These solutions turn a smartphone into a dumb-phone. I love my iPhone but with every new iOS update, the battery becomes incredibly unreliable.  Has anyone found a solution that does not kill the iPhone's functionality?

You can try a soft-reset of pressing and holding both the home and sleep buttons for 10 to 15 seconds so that it reboots, but you are likely to get the same screen. If it does then it will need to be connected to a computer's iTunes so that it can be reset back to factory defaults - do you have a friend with a computer with iTunes installed on it, or is there an Apple store nearby that you could try going to (if there is then preferably make a Genius Bar appointment at it, or don't go at a busy time) ?
Has she been backing up to the cloud ? If she has then she should be able to restore to that. If not then what she can redownload for free from the stores will show in the Purchased tabs in the store apps.

Downloaded new iOS for iPhone 5. Now the handset is running hot, keeps freezing on different screens, won't charge on official charger ( only charges on crap poundland one) and battery is loosing 1% every two minutes! I've closed all apps and reset the complete phone but no luck. Any one know what else I can try apart from a new phone?

I have done a factory reset at 45% battery. After the reset it's still hot and at 35% now

Hi! I'm just having a little trouble when it comes to battery charging of my iPhone 5 with its new iOS 7! It doesn't indicates that the battery is fully charge unlike the old version of iOS! I already read some reviews and discussion about this. They said that the lightning bolt should pulsate when charging but it's not!

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • New iPod Touch 5th Gen- iOS 7.0.6 major battery drain.

    iPod Touch 5th Gen, 32GB
Have all the major known drainers off: such as Reduce Motion, Location Services, Notifications, Bluetooth, etc.
    Was at 100% this a.m.
    Usage: 2 hours, 9 minutes
Standby Mode: 11 hours, 45 minutes.
It was at 65% 4 minutes ago. 4 minutes later, it's at 60 % battery, and it wasn't even on.
I always turn it off when not in use and turn wifi off.
Only used to send texts via iMessage and take a few photos today.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Is it preferrable to use iPhone 5 to accommodate the new iOS 6 than maintaining my current iPhone 4S? The battery life is not that good after updating my iPhone 4 S to iOS 6.

I've updated my iPhone 4S with the latest iOS 6 but battery life had never improved as I expected. A friend of my had recently replace his iPhone 3GS with iPhone 5 and both us compared our simillar daily usage of browsing, emails with attachments (work related), messaging (via iMessage, WhatsAppa, WeChat) games, facebook, tweet, uploading, etc, it seems that iPhone 5 last longer by 35-40% compared to my iPhone 4S. By. The time he hits 60-55% on his iPhone 5, my iPhone 4S Is less than 15%... My Questions to the community or any Apple Consultant, is it preferrable to replace my beloved iPhone 4S with iPhone 5 in order to accommodate the performances of iOS 6 and the "coming soon" iOS 7? Is it a practise to replace every iPhone when there's a new iOS update? Please advise.

It largely depends on how much money you are prepared to spend.
Your question is much like asking "I have last year's model car.  This year, the car has some new features.  Should I trade in last year's model and get this year's?"  Well, maybe.  It's your call.
Each newer generation introduces some new features and capabilities.

  • Battery iphone 5 new IOS

I sold my 3 months old iphone 4s becouse unusual Battery drain:(  got a new iphone 4 and is same..lossing %50 without use infew hours!!!
i search and everyone belive is new ios update causing this problem.
app store asked me to make a FRESH restore and install allapps again...(othe rhand loosing data, wasting time, ....,,...)
why have to pay $1000 for a phone when company do not care to fix the issue...I am really not happy with Apple amumore......
anyone else have same problem or find a solution without resore it fresh?
    Thx

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide has always been reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
For what insane reason would you sell an iPhone without first doing all basic troubleshooting to rule out the actual device as the cause of the issue?
Now, you're whining about being told to do basic troubleshooting and basically refusing to do it.
    That is just dumb.

  • HT1222 Hey, I've tried to install the new iOS 7.1 but it says that the installation cannot be completed and doesn't say why. I have more than 50% battery left but it still doesn't work, help?

Hey, I've tried to install the new iOS 7.1 but it says that the installation cannot be completed and doesn't say why. I have more than 50% battery left but it still doesn't work, help?

It probably means you don't have enough available storage on your phone.  It takes space to store the download - THEN unpack it.  Best method is to use a computer with iTunes (This allows you to back up on your computer as well).
PLEASE:  Do not purchase iCloud storage space - this will not give you more room for the iOS 7.1 installation.

  • With the upgrade to the new IOS 7, I can't figure out to close aps running in the background. Because of this my battery life is being agffected. Can anyone tell me how to close aps?

WWith the upgrade to new IOS 7, I can't figure out how to close aps running in the background . This is affecting my battery life.  Can someone please tell me how to close aps to reduce frequent charging of the battery?  Thanks

Double tap the home button and find the app you want to close. Swipe up or drag up on the app thumbnail to close it. Not the icon, the app preview thumbnail above the icon, drag up on that.
