New iOS 7 Safari bookmark menu colored icons

When a bookmarked website doesn't have their own favicon, how does Safari decide which color it will use for the default icon? In other words, why is one black, one gray, and one red?

When a website doesn't have a favicon, the default icon is the grey icon with the compass. If there is an "apple-touch-icon" (https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/AppleApplications/Referenc e/SafariWebContent/ConfiguringWebApplications/ConfiguringWebApplications.html) in the HTML, it shows that. If there is just a regular favicon, it picks the color from that. I'm not sure exactly how it does it (maybe the most abundant color). I haven't seen anything in the HTML of the pages to determine it.

Seperate text size modification is no longer available in Safari Reafer.
Use Settings.
Settings >General > Text Size

My new ios 7 safari defaults to chinese websites

When I want to look at the internet, safari has six sites with all Chinese wording. No yahoo or google. How to I get it back to the regular safari? This became an issue once I installed ios 7

The six websites include Wikipedia right? (: don't worry! This isn't a permanent thing. The only reason why it's in Chinese is because those websites are Chinese websites. First, go to the bookmarks bar (book icon beside cloud icon at top right hand corner of safari), go to your favourites, and start deleting the Chinese websites from the favourites! Then afterwards you can go to the different sites and add it to your favourites.

Export safari bookmarks menu

I just bought a new powerbook and would like to bring my current bookmarks to the new powerbook. Can anyone please tell me how to do that, thanks.

Your bookmarks are stored in a file called Bookmarks.plist and it is located in the Safari folder in the Library folder on Finder's Home Page (~username/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist). Copy the file onto a usb flash drive or something, or mail it to yourself as an attachment, and put it in the same location on the new computer.

I created a new folder in my bookmarks menu and it disappeared with all the links inside the next time I turned on my notebook.how could that happen?can I find those links again somewhere in the memory?

Import FF Bookmarks into Bookmarks MENU

Hi all,
Thinking about moving back to Safari 3.2 from FireFox. Wondering if there is a way to import my thousands of FF bookmarks into the Safari bookmark menu so I don't have to go to Show All Bookmarks or use Bookmarks as my startup page in order to access said bookmarks.
Also, any thoughts as to why, when I log into Discussions with Safari, it will keep my log in name, but not my password, while FireFox always keeps both my log in name and password so I can just click one button to log in?

move them all to the Bookmark Menu group, which you can do from the sidebar of Show All Bookmarks.
It seems like I remember one used to be able to do what you're suggesting, but my imported bookmarks are in a folder in the sidebar, and the Bookmarks Menu shows up as a blue icon, definitely not a folder. I'm looking for some way around opening every single address and then saving in to the Bookmarks Menu.
The other problem you mentioned could be any number of things such as your Security preference settings, your Keychain, AutoFill problems, etc.
Hmmm, as I said, it works fine with FireFox, and with any/all other protected sites I've tried . . . . I'm running 10.4.11 on an 867MHz TiBook with 768MB RAM.

Moving Large Safari Bookmarks Folder

Anyone else with this problem.
Using Safari on Mavericks. Trying to use Safari > Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks to move a large folder to new location in my Bookmarks Menu folder. I don't have a problem moving smallish folders. But, when I try to move the large folder (i.e., drag and drop), Safari fails and quits respoding (force quit becomes necessary) if I try to move it anywhere except the top of my Bookmarks Menu folder or into another folder therein. Any solutions/thoughts?
I am not interested in spliting the folder. I can handle things more or less successfully by moving the folder out of my Bookmarks Menu folder. But, I don't like this solution.

I dont see an Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari folder in my windows drive.
I think I may have meant to say the bookmarks are being placed on my Dell pc

The new Mountain lion Safari upgrade

this is maybe not huge topic but I am looking answers anyway. In the new upgrade of Safari in the iCloud icon on the top to the left of the Safari web browser it tells you that you can open and see all other active pages which is shown in your other Apple units. it doesn't show anything from my iPhone or iPad webpage.
How do I get this to work??

Just for those who are interested, this is what cleared the "bookmark menu" trbl I had.
Open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Bookmarks, then reselect it.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a bookmark again.

I have purchased a new iMac, with Safari 5.0.5, but it won't retain bookmarks, I thought I can download a new Safari from Apple. So I deleted Safari from the application folder.

Then I tried to download Safari from Firefox but after finish download, what I got was a dmg file, with a pkg icon (an opened box) and it can't be installed. Same with Google Chrome.
My question is: how can I download Safari? And will it retain bookmarks?

Reinstall Safari from the Optional Installs.pkg on your Mac install disc that came with your iMac. Or in your case, you use Pacifist to extract the Safari app from the .dmg file.
To bookmark a webpage:

In the future, rather then deleting an app, come here and ask for help first. More times then not, you will save yourself time and trouble.

SAFARI - Bookmarks Bar & Bookmarks Menu

I don't rember if both of these folders existed on my virgin phone or if they came down with the sync but how do yuo delete a Bookmark bar which doesn't exist on iphone safari?
Also how do you create folders on the iPhone?

Just been pondering this myself. I've decided not to sync my bookmarks (having checked the box to allow Safari Bookmark syncing when I first bought the iPhone). I'm creating a new folder structure for bookmarks on my iPhone. However, I'd really love to get rid of the Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu folders. Clicking on Edit brings up the round delete icon next to all the other folders apart from these two and the History folder! Actually I wouldn't mind deleting the History folder as well, as I never use it. I thought perhaps I'd be allowed to delete these folders once I unchecked the Safari Bookmarks syncing in iTunes, but I still can't get the option to delete them. Anyone know if it's possible? Or is it a feature?

The webpage icons database may be corrupted as a result of the upgrade.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Safari/WebpageIcons.db
Click Go then move the WebpageIcons.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari.
It may take up to a day for your webpage icons to re populate.

TS4001 How can I share Safari bookmarks between two iCloud accounts using IOS 7 and Mavericks?

Before iOS 7 and Mavericks, we were able to share Safari bookmarks between all of our devices. My wife had the primary iCloud account which was setup to share bookmarks, contacts, calendars and reminders. A secondary iCloud account was setup on my phone for only my email. Each phone had our private email accounts segregated and we shared all the bookmarks, contacts, calendars and reminders. When I saved a bookmark on my phone, I could see it later on our iMac or iPad. Now only my wife can sync bookmarks between her phone and the iMac or iPad. This *****!! This worked beautifully before we upgraded to the latest versions of OS & iOS. Is there a work around or a new way to set things up? I don't want to be stuck reading Safari on my phone when I have a 24" iMac sitting in the living room. I don't want to see all of my wife's email on my phone either. Do we need three iCloud accounts now? One main for sharing and two separate accounts for only email? Need help! Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for the reply. That's how I set it up originally. Although the new iOS 7 update lost some functionality. I found the following on the TUAW website. The Safari Bookmarks and Find My Phone options have been removed from the secondary iCloud accounts options. This is the problem. Everything worked great before we updated. I guess "new way" consolidates the iCloud accounts better with Maverick? Now I will have extra documents on my phone that I don't need. We will both have to share the same iCloud storage and backup space too. Have to try it out and see how it works. Thanks.

How do i fix my safari bookmarks so I can add new ones?

First off, I need to let you all know that i am not computer savvy! I noticed the past couple of days that I can no longer add new bookmarks to my Safari. I thought I had too many so I deleted a lot but it still won't let me add any new ones. Has anyone else had this problem? If you know how to fix it, please let me know. Also if you could explain how to fix it in plain English I would appreciate it. I googled my problem and the responses I read as to how to fix it I couldn't understand. The computer speak was beyond me. Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!
