New iPad/iPad 3 charging time = 12 hours+

My new iPad took 12 hours ++ to charge from 0 to 100%, is this normal? I can't recalled how long my iPad 2 took, but it's definitely much quicker.
I'm aware the new iPad comes with a bigger battery, but charging more than 12 hours doesn't sound quite right to me. Any1 else experiencing the same?
Btw I'm charging it with my iPad 2 charger because I see the new iPad comes with the same 10w charger.

I charged my new third-generation iPad for the first time today (I had drained it all the way down until it turned itself off). It reached 100% in just over 5 hours. I used the charger that came with it. The iPad was turned on, but not in use, while it was charging. It also wasn't in Airplane Mode - WiFi was active, but not cellular.
12+ hours sounds like a lot to me!

  • IPad 3 charging time

My new iPad 3 was charging for 9 hours and the charge went from 9% to just 54%. The iPad was switched on but not being used so the display was off. Do iPad 3's normally take so long to charge.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • IPad 2 charging time?

I am using the wall charger - not the computer. And I'm not using the iPad 2 when it's charging. (Sorry to reply in this way but when I click on reply I get an error message.) so 3-5 hours is normal? That seems like a LONG time to me compared to iPhone and Kindle....

  • IPad 4G charging time

    Hello,
I'm going to buy an iPad 4G WiFi the next week. But I'd like to know the charging time, because the six hours that the 3G takes is too long!
Does it takes 4 hours like the iPad 2 or longer?
I mean charging time without using the iPad.
    Thanks and greetings from Spain!

Two hours! It takes my iPad 3 about 5-6 hours for a full charge from about 5% on the battery indicator. This is using the power adapter and plugged into a wall socket.
You have the super iPad3 power adapter I suppose.
Believe it or not, my iPad 3 doesn't take more than 2 hours to charge. I bought it on Oct 3rd, perhaps Apple gave me a lemon
I can even post a video if you're curious.

  • Ipad 2 charge time

My wife had had her iPad 2 since Christmas 2011, however I am soon to "inherit" it and I've noticed that it takes much longer to charge than I believe it should.  I've searched the net and these forums but no one seems to have such a severe case as I'm experiencing.  Last night the iPad 2 was down to 18% charge and was plugged in to charge at approx 22:00.  This morning at 08:00 the iPad 2 is still only at 90%, after 10 hours charging!  For the record I'm using an official Apple plug and charge cable and this is in UK.  Can anyone please tell me if this is normal?  All my searches on the internet seemed to indicate that from 0% to 100% should take anywhere between 5 and 7 hours.
    Thanks

I'll give that a try thanks, however it's not reporting the wrong battery status (I know about that particular issue as it happns to my iPhone every now and again). The iPad 2 is still charging and is now at 95% after another hour or so.  I'll let it get to 100% then will let it totally drain before recharging and I'll see how long that takes.  At the moment it's frustrating that even an overnight charge doesn't fully charge it!
Also, my wife uses the iPad 2 a lot and she tells me that it regularly has the battery run down to 0 (turns itself off) before then being recharged.

  • IPad 4 charging times

    HY everybody
I Have bought a original iDevice power adapter 12W from Apple store and lightning cable certified with these accessories my iPad4 retina take 2 hours to charge from 68% to 96% (28%). Its normal or not?

Yes, that's normal but, as the battery gets a higher voltage, the charging slows down.
Don't over-analyze this.  Your device is functioning properly.  Leave it at that.

  • My ipad is takes a few hours to save the sync changes.

My ipad is taking a few hours to save the sync changes.  It goes through all the 1-5 steps OK, but when it hits the final step, it stays there forever!  I finally have to turn the ipad off.

The iPad 2 & 3 came with a 10W charger, the 12W didn't roll out until iPad 4.  But if the OP is using an iPhone charger, or anything that delivers less than 2A DC then that would explain the lengthy charge time (9 hours does seem rather long).

  • My iPad 3 seems to take forever to charge. It will easily take 6 hours plus to fully charge to 100%, it has always been like this so thought it was normal, however my friends point out it isn't. Does anyone else have similar charging times? Thanks, Claire

    Hi All,
I have had my iPad 3 since Feb 2012 and have always commented on it's slowness to charge. I was just wondering if it's meant to take 6 hours plus to charge to 100% or if this is a bit excessive?
As it has always done it, I have never really thought of it but a lot of my friends are now commenting that it's a really long time and it shouldn't take that long.
    Thanks,
    Claire

  • HT4060 I have a new IPAD I started charging it 3 hours ago when it had 29% power and it has not moved.  Any suggestions?

I having problems charging my IPAD.  It has been charging now for 3 hours and has not budged from 29%

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
Or - Recalibrate the battery. See link below.

  • HT5423 How many hours is the charging time of the iPad 4th gen?

I am charging my ipad, & noticed that its been 9 hours & still its 90 percent. I just wanna know, how many hours is the charging time of an iPad before it gets 100% full? & is it normal that the charger become hot? Hope someone can answer this question. Thank u.

Chargers, and the unit being charged where the battery is located, will get warm during charging...charging does work on the battery.  If it is hot or too hot to handle then you need to decide if it is too uncomfortable and needs to be checked at the Apple store genius bar.
Nine hours is a long time to charge, but if you discharged all the way it can take 4-8 hours to fully charge.
If the charger is getting very hot and taking a long time to charge you may want to take it to the genius bar and have it checked by the techs.
