New iPad running really hot

After getting my new iPad set up the way I want it I noticed that it runs really hot; never experienced anything like this with iPad 2. Has anyone else had this problem? Its hot enough that I am concerned.

Robin-
I would be concerned.  Some types of batteries have been recalled in the past because they start fires!
The most obvious problem is that a hot iPad suggests the battery will run down quickly.  Do you have enough experience to determine how long a full charge will last?  I would expect it to be similar to the iPads 1 & 2, which is about ten yours.  Someone mentioned that their iPad charge went down ten percent per hour.
I suggest you show your iPad to an Apple Store Genius.  If the Genius agrees, you may get a replacement iPad.
If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  There may be one in your city.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

Well I have a question. Why my New iPad is so hot within 30 minutes.i used internet from wifi and playing game 3d or 2d . It's appear after I upgrade to IOS6. Why?

It's normal for the iPad or any similar device to get warm when it's under heavy load. If it gets too warm, it will shut itself off and show a disabled message.
Take a look at this Apple doc -> Phone, iPad, and iPod touch (4th generation): Keeping device within acceptable operating temperatures
If you believe it's hotter than normal, make a reservation with a Genius.

  • Airport Extreme n runs really hot

My new extreme n runs much hotter than my old extreme base station. With the new flat shape, it promotes putting things on top, but that might be dangerous with how hot this gets.
Much warmer than my MacBook Pro.
    Anybody else notice this?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Ditto Smokerz.
Moreover, the AEBS(n) is definitely not intended to have anything sitting on top. Not only would it affect heat dissipation, but might also likely impede signal transmission.
And, I would add that, "...really hot" is somewhat of an overstatement... It's just more so than its predecessor.
    FWIW...

  • Photos makes MBP run really hot since update 10.10.3 (14D131)

    Hi
I updated to 10.10.3 (14D131) and each time I access the new Photos app my MBP now gets really hot, the fan runs constantly until the program is closed.
Any clues how to stop this or is it a wait for the next update to solve this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the attention mate.
It's clearly related to the update. And checking the support article +*About the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update*+ http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194 , it says there:
    AirPort
+Improves the reliability of AirPort connections, including improvements when roaming in large wireless networks with an Intel-based Mac.+
    _Time Machine_
+Fixes issues that could cause Time Machine to state the backup volume could not be found.+
+Improves Time Machine reliability with Time Capsule.+
So the two things I have were supposedly fixed by Apple. I'm still waiting for a solution before I go back to my backed up state.

  • Why are my pictures not saving on new ipad running iOS7

Latest iPad running previous or new iOS and pictures are not appearing in camera role or albums.  Some photos on there but definitely not working when using home button and pwr button to take screen shot.
I remember there being problems with flattened jail broken devices but theoretically this cannot be the case as a brand new iPad.
Is this a known problem in the modern day or an iOS7 fault, any input welcome

I had the same problem, after a long discussion with Apple one of their engineers came up with the bright idea of restoring from the original backup via WiFi rather than connecting to iTunes by USB. This should give you a pretty good idea as to whether the photos are there in your backup file, as for instance it said uploading 22 of 863 photos for me, left it overnight to restore from backup via WiFi, restarted the iPhone in the morning and all of my photos had been restored. I have since backed up all photos to a very helpful Dropbox "Camera Uploads" update.
To restore from iCloud via WiFi, on your device:
Open Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
Wait for the device to restart, input Time and Date Settings and Connect to WiFi.
Log in using your Apple ID and select Restore from iCloud Backup. (Ensure it is the iCloud backup with all relevant photos).
Leave device to Restore overnight and restart in the morning!

  • Macbook Pro Runs REALLY hot

I have had my MBP for about a week now and have noticed it runs very hot. I am using istats to check the CPU temps and they are exceeding 180F! Normally it will sit from 150 to 170F, and is always very very warm to the touch, when it hits 180+ its burning hot and only then do the cooling fans make a noticeable noise. Has anyone experienced the hot MBP for the 08 models yet?

Actually I had the exact opposite experience.
The new MacBook pro I got is cooler then any other mac I have (old pro, new air).
I can actually put it on my lap with shorts on without any problem. I would bring it back to the store and see what's up with it. Something doesn't seem to be right with it.
BTW - have you added any non-apple firmware changes like Coolbook?

  • My new IPad Air is hot after only 10 minutes browsing using cellular network and also wifi.

I just bought IPad Air few days ago, and start from day one very time I use the IPad for browsing internet, it turns quite hot and it is very uncomfortable. Please give me solution for this.  Do I need to bring the IPad to Apple service or I can do something in the device to fix this problem. Because the device really hot after 10 minutes. I used to have IPad 2 and still have it actually and never experienced the same thing, it works very good until now. Thank you.

The iPad Air battery is bigger, it has a more powerful CPU and GPU and a brighter, higher-resolution screen than an iPad 2. Warmer is normal. Too hot to touch is not.

  • New Ipad getting so hot

I received my new IPAD 2 weeks ago and it unfortunately overheats while i am playing with it.
Can anyone tell me what to do when such a thing happens ?

    Simple Solution,
1.)  Do a battery drain, recharge,
2.) Enter DFU mode and do a clean install of the latest OS. (DFU - Connect to iTunes while its on, hold both the power and home for 10 secs, or more, then release the power and continue holding the home,  "you would know it you are in DFU mode if nothing appears on the iPad yet iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode") - (don't do recovery mode because errors remain most of the time)
It worked for me, Apple has to recalculate the formula for calculatiing the battery on the new iPad.
*Also if Apple is reading, double check the multitasking, app switching  option, its buggy.

  • Running really hot from the start

Just set up my (new to me) refurbished MBP that came preloaded with Tiger and a Leopard upgrade DVD. Sitting in a new Higher Ground case that elevates it on four pads to keep air moving underneath. The upgrade installation took about an hour (half to review the disc and half to install). When that was done I turned it off and picked it up to move it. I could feel warmth through the bottom of the case, which is made so notebooks can be used without removing them, and was surprised how warm the bottom of the case felt. I touched the bottom of the MBP and it was almost too hot to touch. I would not be able to keep it in my lap this way. So before I venture forth, I'd like to know if this is normal. I have read other posts about fans running problematically and about running warm, but I didn't see anything about too hot to the touch.

They can get quite hot on the bottom. Install iStat Pro and let us know what your internal temps are running.

  • MacBook running really hot since 10.5.2 update?

Any one have any ideas as to why my MacBook is running so much hotter since I updated to 10.5.2? I know the MacBook has a rather warm operating temperature under normal circumstances, but I have definitely noticed an increase. Up until a week ago, I hardly used to hear the fan going or feel it being so hot, but now fan blazing all the time and my battery life is taking a pounding... I have a Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz superdrive, white, 2GB RAM, and as mentioned 10.5.2. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • 27in 2010 [Mid] Running Really Hot During Game Play

    Hello,
I've seen a couple other concerned users in here and figured I'd post my issue with my Oct (mid) 2010 27in i5 iMac.
    For starters:
    2.8ghz Intel i5
    16gb of 1333 ddr3
    ATI Radeon HD 5759 1024mb
    Mac OS Lion 10.7.4
During game play the temperature of the top portion of the iMac exceeds 120'F, I'm fine with the heat, It's a large sealed aluminum case housing lots of hot items. Here's the catch my graphics begin to deteriorate and pixel/hexigon away so gaming is no longer visible... Now I've got a desk fan running behind the computer and can get a few more minutes before the pixel/hexigonal phase hits and game play must stop or be tolerated.
I just downloaded iStat widget to attempt to capture some temperature and fan data. Could this issue not be the temperature and maybe my GPU? Is there a standard limit of temperature to determine maybe my fans are not functioning correctly? Is there a safe way to clean the iMac's innerds without damaging anything?
    Thanks -
    (1) At Idle
    (2) In game
    (3) Shut down from game and attempting to cool down
Here's a snap shot of the graphics deteriorating, eventually the entire screen fills with "lack of graphics"
*Game= Civ5 within Steam (for Mac)

  • SL Runs really hot on MacBook Air

SL arrived in the post this morning, so backed up and installed. All went smoothly, BUT the temperature of my machine is now showing 20degs higher (72deg) than previously with no additional apps running. The fans are running constantly - this is going to really kill the battery life.
    Anyone else seen this?

Take a look here, my investigations point to Spotlight being the culprit:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10074229#10074229
You need to run Activity Monitor, and make sure you choose to show "All Processes", not just "My Processes" - you will probably see "mds" and "java" hogging the CPU.

  • Am worried.  New iPad 3 gets really hot.  My first iPad never got hot.

I had an iPad 1 for a long time.  It never got hot and also, it charged up quickly.  Recently I purchased a new iPad 3.  This iPad gets really hot and also seems to take an awful long time to recharge.  Thoughts?

There is no escaping the engineering principles involved. Twice the battery capacity means twice as long to charge with the same 10W charger. Since the battery life remains the same at about ten hours, doubling the battery capacity also means that twice as much heat will be dissipated over that period of time. In simple terms "it gets hotter".
Or, you don't get something for nothing.
