New iPad still restoring(setting up) 24 hr. later...

I just bought a new iPad Mini 3 which I set up yesterday to restore from an iCloud backup of my old iPad.
24 hours later, it is evidently still restoring. All the apps are on and loaded; nothing seems amiss.
Could it be photos that are taking so long? I see that some photo albums in my Photo app (not iPhoto) are still empty.
I have the iPad mini plugged in and on wi-fi.
Will it keep restoring even when it locks itself down? Or should I disable the lock for now?
Any wisdom would help.
Thanks!

Hello PatsyKB51,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. iCloud restores can take up to 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte being restored. Since photos and videos are fairly large, they may take longer to restore than other types of content. Having your iPad mini plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi is perfect, and it does not matter if it is locked or in use. For more information, see this resource:
Get help restoring from an iCloud backup - Apple Support

The restore process is taking a long time to finish
The amount of time needed by the restore process depends on your geographical location and the speed of your Internet connection. Even with a fast Internet connection, the restore process might take 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte to complete.
If the restore process still seems to be stalled, you can erase your device and start again:

Whats my next move as I CANNOT use the ipas at the moment!!!!!!!!

Your iPhone's iOS must be same or newer than the one in backups. In your case it is older so you need to update your iPhone and then recover it with backup.

  • Just purchased second ipad.  first one lost.  Do I "set up" as a new ipad or restore from old ipad

Just replaced lost ipad with new ipad.  Do I sign in as "new ipad"  or restore previous ipad.?

Do you have a backup of the old ipad that you can restore too?  IF you do then do a restore, if you don't thne set up as new ipad.

  • Sync as new iPad or restore from iPod?

I just bought a new iPad (16GB). When I connected it to my four-year-old MacBookPro running 10.5.8, I was asked in iTunes whether I wanted to set it up as a new iPad or restore from my second-generation iPod. I have sime new apps on the iPad which I do not want overwritten, but I also would like to have many of the apps on my iPod on my iPad as well. Which option should I select?

Not sure if I'd do it from an iPhone, but the clear advantages would be (same for ipad wifi to ipda 3G) that your saved passwords and other app-specific info is brought over. Otherwise, while it's easy to re-sync all apps etc, their info (logon, customizations etc.) would need to be setup anew as well.
Why not try it? You can always restore-mode and start from scratch if there are ANY issues.

  • Will my new iPad still arrive on march 16?

Will my new iPad still arrive on march 16? I heard they changed shipping dates, so does that affect me since I places it before they changed the date?

    Sigh.
Bitter people like you, who troll around support forums in order to attack other users with their verbal bile need to get a life.
If you cannot express your opinion in an even remotely friendly or constructive matter, why bother replying? But I guess this kind of antisocial tendency is why you are responding this way in the first place, so I shouldn't even bother suggesting that.
Fact: Apple is short of supply- this is not a problem for anyone.
Fact: Apple is processing orders accepted at a later date preferentially while pushing back delivery dates for orders accepted hours or days earlier. That is indeed bad practice, but if you have another term for it, please, feel free. And this is a problem.
As for a company that regularly screws over their customers and yet is successful, I don't know what bubble you live in, but there are tons ranging from PC manufacturers to certain delivery companies (one of which Apple happens to use), so not only are you unnecessarily out of line, your argument is also void.
    People like you are sad.

  • Why the new iPad still has no Flash

I wonder why the new iPad still has no flash. I love to take photos with my iPhones and iPads, sometimes a flash could be handy when it's dark.
I know it could be another nightmare for the Apple case makers.

Apple has never said why, and rarely does explain decisions like that... my guess is that it would have taken space and power away from something else, it's a pretty tightly-packed product. :-)

  • I purchased an iPad mini on October 10th.  I want to return it and get the new ipad mini retina when it comes out.  How do I do that if the new ipad mini release date isn't until "later in November", which is beyond the 14 days from my purchase date?

I purchased an iPad mini on October 10th.  I want to return it and get the new ipad mini retina when it comes out. I am currently still within the 14 day return/exchange window but how can I exchange it if the new ipad mini release date isn't until "later in November", which would be beyond the 14 days from my purchase date?  If apple announces a new version of a product you just purchased but won't actually release it for more than 14 days, how can you possibly exchange the one you just bought?  Is my only option to return the one I bought on the 10th (so return by 10/24) and then not have an iPad until the new one is available for purchase?  Or would it make any sense to return the one I bought, get a new one, which would presumably have another 14 day return window, and then exchange THAT one for the new ipad mini w/ retina when it comes out (hopefully within that second 14 day window)?

Call the apple store you got it from and ask them. Sometimes in the past they've extended the 'no questions asked return' but only Apple can tell you for sure.

  • I have a new ipad which needs itunes 10.7 or later to download my music onto it... but my ipad is not compatible with this as it is too old... can i use itunes with this ipad and apple laptop?

I have a new ipad which needs itunes 10.7 or later to download my music onto it... but my apple laptop is not compatible with this as it is too old... can i use itunes with this ipad and apple laptop?

To use itunes 10.7 you need to have Snow Leopard operating system installed
    These are the system requirements
    System Requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
If you can run Snow Leopard you need to purchase it

  • Itune forces to setup as new ipad or restore from backup?!

I have 3 ipads and 2 iphones in my house sharing the same apple ID, but when I tried to connect one of the ipads to itune on my PC, it only gives option to set up as new phone or restore from backup, either option would wipe out the data I already have on the ipad. All other devices can connect to itune without problems. Found another thread with the same problem, but the solution of logging on windows with different user does not solve my problem. Can anyone help? Itune has to be the worst and dumbest product from apple!

I too have this very frustrating issue. It worked fine 2 weeks ago.
I have two devices setup, and they have the same name, but that has never been a problem as one is a 5G 80GB iPod, and the other is an iPhone 3GS.
Now, everytime I plug my iPhone into my PC, iTunes comes up and asks me to restore.
Grrr... I have restored 3 times. I have also performed a complete iPhone reset and a restore... same thing, and I have no idea why.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    S.

  • I can't get a new ipad to restore to my previous ipad's last point

I bought a 3rd generation iPad.. I am trying to set it up using my ipad 2's last cloud restore, but when I try it says no backups available! Thankfully I just restored my ipad 2 so I dont lose anything right now! How do I get this new ipad to update?!?! It worked fine with my husbands new ipad from his ipad 1

    I had this exact problem.
My icloud backup would not restore to my new iPad.  Easy solution:
Update your new iPad to iOS6 (they are not updated out of the box).  Likely your old iPad is on iOS6.  The backups are not compatible across different iOS platforms.
After the update, you will find that your most recent backup will show up as a restore option.
    Hope this helps...

  • How can I restore an app and its data from an old ipad to a new ipad without restoring from backup?

When I purachsed and iPad 2 to replace my old iPad I did not want to restore it from backup for obvious reasons.  However, there are apps that have data stored in them that I have lost the data for, what can I do to get the app and data back on the new iPad without losing the data that was already in the app?

The reasons may be obvious to you, but it makes no sense to me. I would think that you would want all of the content that you had transfered onto your new iPad.
However, there are apps that have data stored in them that I have lost the data for, what can I do to get the app and data back on the new iPad without losing the data that was already in the app?
If you lost the data in the apps, you can't get it back unless you restore from a backup - assuming that the backup DID have that data in the apps..
The only way that you can get the apps PLUS the app data onto the new iPad is to restore the new iPad from a backup of the original iPad and sync the apps back onto the new iPad if necessary.
