New iPad Verizon Hotspot Failure/Solution - Tech Support Please Verify

Potential Problem:
Upon initiating the New iPad's Verizon Hotspot, other devices initially see the iPad's SSID, then you receive an "Unable to join..." message and/or the SSID disappears, never to be seen by devices that you are attempting to connect to the iPad.
Apparent Cause:
The characters used to name your iPad are the default, unchangeable characters used to name your iPad's Verizon Hotspot's SSID (the network name).
You cannot change the SSID, unless you change the name of your iPad.
Apparently, when it comes to naming the SSID, certain characters, maybe including spaces, are not allowed and subsequently corrupt any connection.
In my case, my iPad's name, and therefore it's SSID had a space and an apostrophe in it, one or both of which (probably the apostrophe), would not allow proper broadcasting of the SSID and the connection to the hotspot.
Preliminary Solution:
ename your iPad using alphanumeric characters without spaces or special characters; stick with letters and numbers.
To rename your iPad, connect it to iTunes, and before doing anything, allow it to sync.
Then, with the iPad's name showing in the left-hand column of iTunes, double click it's name, which will allow you to rename the iPad.
Reboot the iPad, and hopefully, the hotspot SSID, which is your iPad's new name, will reappear among the visible networks on your other wireless devices.
Apple Tech Support should verify this problem/solution, then provide guidance as to allowable naming conventions that won't trip up the hotspot.

Having the same issue...
After I get the "unable to join" message on my laptop, I turn off, then back on the Person Hotspot and then the second attempt to join from my laptop works...
I did rename my ipad, however i didn't use special characters or spaces...   maybe just renaming is causing problems?
It's stupid that you can't use your own sid!
I really hate these crazy issues.    Why can't it just work!

    Why are you using Windows print sharing with your nice network printer? This mode only supports printing, not scannning or faxing. The better way to do this is to attach the printer to your router with Ethernet or wirelessly so that all PCs (regardless of how they connect) can use all of it's features. Disconnect the USB cable and run the Wireless Setup Wizard (if you want to connect it wirelessly, otherwise, plug the Ethernet cable in to the printer and router) from the front of the printer (Setup >Network menu), then run the HP software to "Add a Device" on each PC.

  • New iPad, side switch failure?

    About 1-2 days ago, I started having problem with the side switch, I am no longer able to unmute or unlock rotation by using side switch.
    If I choose side switch to Mute, no matter how I toggle switch button, it stays at Mute status, no system sound, no lock sound, no keyboard sound, no notification sound, no game sound... but Video/Music/YouTube are OK.
    If I choose side switch to Rotation Lock, no matter how I toggle switch button, the "Rotation Lock" icon always appears in status bar.
    Usually when you toggle side switch button, the screen will show a big icon to tell it is now muted/unmuted, or rotation locked/unlocked, but now the big icon does not appear any more.
    Looks like my iPad sets side switch's default as Mute & Rotation Lock, and does NOT allow to change from the hardware button.
    I tried reboot, reset all settings, restore as a new iPad, nothing worked.
    Does that look like a hardware failure?

    If it's still an issue after a restore, then it most likely is a hardware problem which you can't fix yourself.
    Replacements can be refurbished, but you won't be able to tell the difference. If it's not 'as new' they'll replcae it again for you! Even so, if you ask nicely, they may offer you a new one!
    Restoring from a backup does take a long time, and I fully understand that the drive to the store is a long way, but there's really not much else you can do. Make it a day out, go shopping while you're there, find a restaurant for some lunch, and then that 1 1/2 hour journey won't seem to pointless!

  • New iPad shared hotspot disconnects

    Hello,
    On my "New iPad", if I launch the Hotspot option and connects my iPhone, it disconnects once my iPad locks itself.
    Anyone knows why this is happening?
    P.S.:  Reason why I'm doing this is that I receive lots of data when in the office and I have an unlimited plan on my iPad.  This way, I could use my iPad's connection to save my iPhone data.

    Does the carrier you would be using in Colombia use SIM cards to access their network? If so, get the AT&T model. All iPads are unlocked so you can use it in South America.

    My phone is not working.  I have tried turning off and on.  I looked online how to remove the battery but there is no instruction to be found anywhere.  Every place I go to they keep telling me to call tech support.  If I was able to call tech support then I would not be complaining about my phone not working, would I?

    I'm assuming you have a phone with a non-removable battery?  You can try holding both volume buttons and pressing power, this will do the same thing as a battery pull.  A little more insight into what is wrong with your phone (as well as which phone you have) may help get you a solution.

  • Apple Tech Support, Please Help

    About a month and a half ago my 20g black and white screen iPod decided to stop connecting with my computer, and then stopped working all together. On december 7th I sent in the repair request, Apple told me that my warranty was up and it would cost 380$ for repairs, or I could fax a proof of purchase into them. On december 11th I went to the place I bought it at and got them to print off the proof of purchase (my warranty was still good for another year.) On december 18th I faxed the proof of purchase to the number supplied by apple. It is now January and the status of my repair still says "Pending on review of proof of purchase." It has been more than a month and i have gotten no word form apple yet. Has anyone been in this situation before?

    I had (and still have) the exact same problem with the exact same system. Do NOT call 1-800-MY-APPLE unless you want it to count as your ONE free technical call. I myself can not call this number, because after that one free call, I don't feel like spending $60 to talk to tech support
    I don't really know what to do, personally. My hope is that somebody else will know what to do, because I too am in desperation; I haven't had my iPod nearly as long (or for as long) as you.
    Won't somebody please think of the Children?! (US?!)

    I have the new ipad with retina display and it had that new smaller charger as you probably already know, well I've only had this ipad for about three months and I've already gone through two chargers for the same problem which is When I plug it in it does not charge unless I unplug it and plug it in about 40 times and then it starts to charge! Do you think it may have something to do with the ipad itself or am I just getting faulty chargers? It's not that cheap to keep re-buying these chargers ):

    Since your iPad is quite new, why are you "re-buying" chargers?  Are you not using the charger that came in the box -- the original Apple charger?  If you were doing that, and did not mishandle the charger (e.g., tug on the cord to pull the charger out of the wall socket), Apple would take care of the charger under its warranty.
    So I suspect you're either mishandling the charger (not likely), or using some third party charger (more likely).
    If it's the original Apple charger, and you're not mishandling it, contact Apple for assistance.

  • Failure in Tech Support

    Your installation agent installed our new service incorrectly.  As a result one of our set top boxes was turned off by your office.  You insisted on Mailing a new box so we had to wait.  The box arrived and doesn't work because you guessed it you shut the line off.  I was then lied to by a rep and supposed supervisor who claims to have no one above him in all of Verizon.  They are{edited for privacy}.  They told me they set up an appoint with a 12 hour window from 8 am to 8 pm on 5/17/13.  When I told Javon I wanted a call from your "closed" dispatch office miraculously it now  doesn't open until 9 am.
    I want a tech here no later than 10 am tomorrow to fix what your install tech did wrong.  I want a call at 8 am to confirm this.  To think I used to hope for Verizon to come to Somerville.  Now I miss Comcast.
    If you cannot get this fixed I will cancel all  your service and have Comcast installed.

    (Well, it seems my title got truncated; originally it read: How to transfer iBooks books & PDFs from old iPad to new iPad?)
    I've recently gotten an iPad Air to replace my previous iPad 2. I have a bunch of books and PDFs in iBooks on the old iPad, and want to transfer them to the new iPad.
    A search of Apple Support informs me that anything I've purchased from iBooks can be downloaded at any time to any of my devices (works like Amazon's Kindle system, apparently), but nearly all the content I have in iBooks on the iPad I've downloaded from other sources, so it won't be in my iBooks Store account (I might have bought one book there).
    I've also seen several instructions on how to copy all my data from the old iPad to the new via Backup & Restore, but that seems to require restoring the new iPad to factory setup, which would delete everything I have on it now – including a bunch more books I've gotten since I started using the new iPad. And I don't want to copy everything, only the books/PDFs (the new iPad has everything I want, except for the books).
    Since there seems to be no way to transfer files directly from one iPad to the other, it seems it must be done via iTunes on my MacBook Pro (and I want to copy all the books/PDFs to the computer anyway). So I connected the iPad 2 to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) and opened iTunes (11.3.1). Then clicked on the iPad's name in the sidebar to the left, and on Books below it. I see a list of the books on the iPad. I check the little boxes by all their names to select them (not sure if that's necessary, but it seems like a good idea), then click on the Sync button at the lower right, to the right of the bar at the bottom of the window with colored bands showing memory usage on the iPad. A message appears saying "The app 'iBooks' was not installed on the iPad '[name]' because the app could not be found."
    But iBooks is already on the iPad; I have it open and see the list of books in it, which matches the list shown in iTunes. The message has a "More Information" button; I click that and it opens an Apple Support article titled "iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open": "Learn what to do if you see one of these issues with an app you downloaded from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: The app unexpectedly quits; The app stops responding; You can’t open the app." But none of these apply; the iBooks app is on the iPad, and works fine there.
    The article suggests: (1) Restart the App. I've done that, no help. (2) Restart your device. Done that, no help. (3) Update your device software and your apps. The iPad is running iOS 6.1.3, iBooks 3.1.3; not the latest versions, no, but I'd rather not update it to newer, bigger, more power-hungry versions if I don't have to. Is it that iTunes 11 doesn't work with iOS 6? I haven't seen this stated anywhere.
    So instead I click the OK button on the message, but nothing further happens, so far as I can tell: None of the books/PDFs on the iPad (about 380MB) appear in iBooks on the MacBook Pro.
    I click on "Books" in the row of words across the top of the iTunes window, and it shows me the single PDF presently in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I click the box by "Sync Books", and a message appears: "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPad and sync with this iTunes library?" Well, no, that's exactly what I DON'T want to do. I don't want to erase the 380MB of books and PDFs on the iPad and replace them with the single PDF now in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I want to copy the books from the iPad 2 to iTunes, so I can copy them back to the new iPad Air (if, God willing, I can figure out how to do that without erasing the books now on the iPad Air).
    I've been working with Macintosh computers for over 26 years. It's always been a fairly simple process to copy files from one computer to another. I don't want to "sync" all the data (address book, email, God knows what else) on the iPad with the corresponding information on the MacBook Pro – especially if that will erase everything on the iPad (which has information not on the MacBook Pro, e.g. 380MB of books). I just want to copy the books and PDFs in iBooks from the old iPad to the MacBook Pro, then to the new iPad, adding them to the books on the new iPad, so I don't lose anything.
    Can anybody give me a clue?

    Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service.
