Restore to new iPad- iMessage phone number is wrong
I lost my wifes iPad 1 to the band of grey. Purchased anew iPad 4 for me, restored my iPad 2 with the iPad 1 backup .everything worked except that the phone number is not updated. How do I change the number in iMessage?
Hey michaelfromgreenwood,
Thanks for the question. The phone number that appears in iMessage settings is going to depend on an iPhone that is associated with your Apple ID. For more information, see this article:

Phone number missing on iPad or iPod touch
If your phone number is not listed on an iPod touch or iPad, follow these steps:
1. Update to the latest version of iOS.
2. Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you are using on your iPhone.
3. On your iPad or iPod touch, sign out of your Apple ID in the following locations:
- Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
- Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
4. Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage.
If your phone number is still not listed, follow these steps:
1. Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
- Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
- Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
2. Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
3. When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Receive At and also in Settings > FaceTime.
4. Now sign in to your Apple ID on your other iOS devices.
Thanks,

TS4062 new iphone lists wrong phone number when trying to sync with itunes
I received my new iphone 4s in the mail and when I try adding it to my itunes for syncing the wrong phone number shows up. The phone works and the number is correct but the one Itunes recognizes is a different number.
I received the phone by mail. I had ATT activate it with my old phone number I had on a blackberry. Everything works fine. The number under settings>phone> my number is the correct phone number.
It's when I try to add this phone to Itunes with a USB cable, itunes recognizes a different number. So i'm guessing the sim came with that number and when ATT activated the phone with my correct number, that this number is still in the phone memory somehow.
At ATT they say the phone is fine. My new number is recognized and works properly. It's just that when adding it to my itunes the new number is not recognized on the initial setup screen.
I'm not even sure this matters but itunes recognizes this phone with a different number than the one that works. -
TS3367 Ipad - facetime phone number
When setting up my new Ipad Air (wi-fi only) from a restore of my Iphone via itunes it is pulling in the wrong phone number for facetime (apparently from another family members iphone) but the restore for apps worked fine. Any way to change the phone#? I already tried erasing the Ipad and doing a fresh backup of the phone and had the same results.

I have just bought a new iPhone and gave my old one to my Mum. My problem is that even with a new SIM and phone number I seem to be getting her messages as well as mine on my thread. They are also being recorded as both sent and received so she must be paying twice for each SMS sent. Help please
Wipe iPhone/iPad/iPod touch clean
There are a few steps to do:
Switch off iMessage in Settings > Messages
Switch off FaceTime in Settings > FaceTime (iPod touch 4th Generation or later, iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later)
Delete iCloud in Settings > iCloud > Delete Account
Finally Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Un-register your device: https://supportprofile.apple.com
Now you can sell/give.
Now, you should get her a new Apple ID to sign in the options above. -

When I try to use iMessage on my iPad my phone number doesnt come up, only my email address does. HELP !!!!!!
It is OK to use the same apple id on multiple devices. That is how it was intended to be used. The phone number used must be a number registered on an iPhone. I receive imessages and face time calls on my iPad, iPhone and imac. Sometimes the email addresses and iPhone numbers don't properly register on all device. Logging out and back in on all devices can fix the issue.
Now with the release of ios 8 other compatible Apple devices can use the iPhone over a WiFi network to send and receive vioce calls as well. -
How do I change my iPads FaceTime phone number?
How do I change my iPads FaceTime phone number?
If your wife's cell number was listed on the iPad, you must have set up the iPad using her iCloud account (Apple ID) instead of your own. iCloud automatically populates the phone number to other devices with the same iCloud account, but you should be able to deactivate it.
That number that is assigned to your iPad is just an internal routing and billing number for your carrier. My carrier (AT&T) makes a clear statement in the legal documents that this number is not for phone calls or (SMS or MMS) messages, just for data delivery. For whatever reason, Apple does not allow it to be used in the iMessages system. -
Yea it's a debit card but I've always used one... I've just bought a new iPad and phone and had sim prob with phone...
I cannot pay for anything from itunes, I get a message saying I need to verify my account details... I continue to do so but I get a message say my payment method has been denied... I have tried several other cards all containing cash but none of those work....??? I have contacted my bank to see if any problems on their end but none....???

I got a new ipad today and when I signed in with my apple id and password my girlfriends number shows up. I have used my id on her phone before but its my id and my credit card
Ok so I figured it out you actually have to go into the device with the number showing on your IPad
Go to settings-FaceTime- logout and do the same for I messaging. But because I was no where near my friend I logged on to my apple account and changed my password this resets everything and well put your number on the I pad -
After iOS 6 update, iPad has wrong phone number for Facetime
I have my phone as well as my mom's on my iTunes account. She updated her phone today and signed into my account. When I updated my iPad this evening, it then associated my iPad with her number for Facetime and I've spent the last 2 hours searching for how to change it without success. It has my email--since it's the only one associated with the iTunes account, but I'd like to not have her phone on my iPad. Anyone have any ideas on how to get her number off of it?
Do you have the mute switch engaged? It's the little slider over the volume buttons on the side. If you can see orange, it's engaged. Slide it the other way.

IMessage has wrong phone number how do I change it
My iPhone 4S uses the correct # and so did my ipad up until about a month ago. That's when my daughter got her new 5C and it was set up. She's only 10, so they set it up under my appleID, now her phone # is showing up on my Ipad as the number to send messages to. She is receiving all my text and I hers.
How do I change the number back to mine on the ipad?
Thank youTry this on both you and your daughters iPhones:
1. go to settings>messages>send and receive
2. tap on the Apple ID and sign out
3. turn iMessage off and wait 10 seconds
4. turn iMessage on
5. this should activate iMessage with the iPhones own numbers
6. now only you sign into the Apple ID for iMessage
This should revert back to only your number and email showing as the contact info for iMessage and you both should not receive eachothers messages. Your daughter will still be able to iMessage but only with her number unless she creates another Apple ID just for iMessage.
Note: Only do steps 1-4 for the iPad -
I recently switched the sim card in my iPhone when I moved from one country to another. When I put my local sim card in iMessage would not activate (just staying on 'waiting for activation' forever). This has not been a problem before. When I went to send/receive I saw the phone number there is still on the old one from the country I left. This is not the case in phone settings when I look for 'my phone number' or in facetime, which recognise the new number.
Plus I keep getting text messages from 'SMS Info'. They are just code, except that in there my new phone number is included among the code. The only other discernible characters are the letters 'REG-RESP?'. Perhaps this is something to do with an error in registering my new number.
I have tried-
1. Turning it off and on again.
2. Turning iMessage off and on again. This results in the usual 'it may cost you to reactivate with an SMS' popup on my phone screen, then a popup saying there has been a mistake, then one of these coded SMS messages.
3. Doing the above in combination with logging in and out of my apple id (as suggested on another forum post here)
4. Removing the new sim card and replacing the old one. Then turning off iMessage, replacing the new sim card and turning iMessage back on (of course powering the phone down and up)
None of these remedies have worked. The iMessage problem is affecting all sorts of my messages. Windows keep popping up saying that I may have to pay for an SMS to activate iMessage, except that it doesn't activate. The SMS messages from 'SMS Info' keep coming and I can't seem to get any of it to stop an just work normally.
I have looked in these forums already and can't see the same problem elsewhere. If someone could figure this out I would be most grateful.Hi,
When a Mac is "registered" for iMessages account with an Apple ID the Serial Number of the Mac is used to create an Auth Token as it is called for the Messages app that allows that Mac to work.
I would guess a similar process of linking the Number of the iPhone to a Hardware fact about the device is also in place.
I would contact Apple Support and check with them. (you might need to speak to a Level 2 person as Level 1 people are script led and try to fit everything into Software or Hardware categories where as sorting and Apple ID (which the Number is in this case) is normally Free).
I did find this iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
It starts off about sorting SMS that is not working.

How to locate my iPad's phone number
I bought a WiFi-3G iPad here in Australia when they first came out and promptly bought a 12-month data plan from Vodafone. This plan is nearing its renewal period now and I need the phone number to purchase an extension. Unfortunately, it's been so long that I can no longer find the packaging that the micro-sim card came with and so I don't know the phone number, which is required in order to purchase the renewal.
Where can I locate the phone number? Under Settings>General>About, there is a lot of useful information but for 'Cellular Data Number' is states 'Unknown'.
- CDMHello guys I'm with the same problem trying to find out my sim card phone number on my iPad and neither of the suggestions above showed me the number. I'm I n Brazil
the only reason I'm searching for this info is that when trying to log in at the WAZE app it now asks for the cell phone number so they can send you a text message with a code to verify your account. Before they would allow us to log in using our account user id
my iPhone works as it received the code via text message and I want to be logged on my iPad using th same account , just the way I used to on the previous WAZE versions -
So I updated my iPhone5 this morning to iOS 7.03 right, then it asked me for my phone number to verify my iCloud Keychain. The problem with that is that I accidentally put in the wrong number. How am I suppose to fix that? How can I go back and put my actual number in?
