New iPh 4s continuously Freezes unable to use for over several hours!!

ok only had the iPh 4s going on 2 months (Oct 14, 2011 received) brand new!!  we all know about the famous hot battery and draining (which will still occur if you do NOT turn off all unnecessary notifications).  However, my new issue which started at the same time as the hot, draining battery is that the iPh 4s Freezes and unable to shut down, or restart by sticking a pin to the small hole on the right side (where the battery is located) will NOT respond for hours.  Only thing displays is the twirling power down icon on black background and the only goes away until the battery completely drains to 0%!  this has happened to me 5 times within 1 month!! 1st time it occurred, i got a text from my husband and then took a photos of some notes.  Not knowing what happened, figured, the battery had drained down and needed to just plug my iphon 4s in the car charger.  Well that was NOT the answer and was left stranded without anyway to contact my husband to pick up our kid from her daycare for 3 hours (5pm is closing time)!  i was ****** not able to find anyway to contact my husband due to this crazy issue.  my last time and 5th experience of the freezing of the device is when i tried to add a photo to tripadvisor and the freakin device again, freezes, not able to shut down and i had to wait 4 hours before it drained to 0%.  Apple Support these are hints to fix the photo app in the 4s it is NOT working properly and freezes the devices.
So my questions is, has anyone had a similar issue like this and how did you resolve it?  this new iPh 4s has really made me very angry that nothing has been done to fix these CRITICAL (and health risk) issues..  Oh and yes, i am on the phone apple iphone support now (call started at 7:37p EST - it  has been over 40+mins for this young man to get me to the next level (tech support) to help on this issue... c'mon now; really; i have to wait until the phone mysteriously drops?!?!?!); i do not want the answer to be "we will send you a new iPh4s"!! i like my phone and a replacement is NOT going to fix the current serious issues that are occurring on this device.  so will they give me a new brain or ear or pay my health bill if later in the future it is discovered these issues are a TRUE health risk all because they did not FIX these critical iphone 4s issue??

Neither the upgrade to Mavericks nor the upgrade of Pages will have removed Pages '09 from your computer. If you have not manually deleted it, you shuld find Pages '09 in a floder named iWork '09 in the Applications folder on your MBP.
Both applications can coexist on your MBP, and you will need both to move back to Pages '09.
Any document that has been opened and saved using Pages 5 (the new one) cannot be opened in Pages '09 unless you open it once more in Pages 5 and Export it as a Pages '09 (or iWork '09) document. Features not supported in Pages 5 at the time it was first opened in that application will not survive the import/export, and anything that used these features will need to be rebuilt in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages '09, you need to be careful to not reopen the document in Pages 5, and if it is inadvertently opened in that version, to close it without saving (if you want to continue using it in Pages '09.
You need Pages 5 at least until you have exported all documents back to Pages '09 format, and you need Mavericks for at least as long as you need Pages 5.

Barry

recently when creating a new blank page, application freezes. have been using for years without a problem. Upgrade?

When something that used to work stops doing so, the most likely culprit is corrupt preferences. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences, delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist file & then restart Pages. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your user Library will appear about halfway down the list. Or you can choose Go to Folder from the Go menu in Finder & paste this line in the box:

  • Why is iTunes Match freezing at step 3 for over 24 hours?

I have subscribed and received confirmation of my subscription. I have tried three times to go through the three steps and am freezing up in step three for over 24 hours. There is no help shown any where. I am seeing many, many others with this problem but no solution. Is anyone from Apple out there? What am I and all other to do?

It's working for me (just tried it now) - it's showing that the status is currently green, but last night there were iCloud service issues.  I have no idea why it's not working for you.   It was a suggestion to restart the service, given the information at hand.
Other than restarting the Match process, my only other suggestions are ones I've mentioned here:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3626829.   Also, keep in mind that Apple tech support doesn't necessarily peruse these boards, it's a peer to peer service (I don't work for Apple - I'm a user just like you are).  If you need to escalate, I would also suggest that you call Apple directly.

  • Msg: You've connected a new Blackberry device, it's been initializing device for over 1 hour

I had Blackberry Desktop Manager Ver 5.x installed. I downloaded the BlackBerry Desktop Software v6.1 software from the link saying that this download was to upgrade existing desktop manager. The installation completed without issues. After starting Version 6.1 for the first time and being asked to connect a blackberry device, I connected my brand new Blackberry Bold 9930. A new window opened that said "You've connected a new BlackBerry device" "Initializing device", and it's been hanging like that for nearly 2 hours. The main window shows the Blackberry correctly seen by model, type and pin and as never synced and never backed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bruce

Although this is advertised as an upgrade to Desktop Manager 5.x, it is really a replacement. It does not upgrade anything, but merely installs the new one. So the first thing you may want to make sure of is whether the old version is still on the computer. Go to your Control Panel on your computer and click Programs and Features. If you see any other BlackBerry Desktop Sfotware version beside the 6.1 then uninstall it. This other version could still be attempting to communicate with your device, causing this issue to occur. Make sure you reboot your computer after this is done. let me know if this helps or if you need any more help.

  • Will apple ever acknowledge the issue with premature failure of iphone5 batteries? A lot of people have problems with them dying at random percentages. Mine just died at 33% restarted it now I've been at 1% with non stop use for over an hour!

My battery has been acting ridiculous on my phone. It shuts down at random percentages ranging from 60% down. I'll be using it with plenty of battery life left on the meter then I get the ring of death and it'll show a dead battery icon wanting charged. At this point I either have to plug it in or I have discovered I can hold down the home and lock button for a minute and it'll come back on still showing plenty of charge. I've read a lot of people have this issue. I've seen the recommendation of re calibrating the battery by fully draining and charging multiple times. I've done that with no results. I've also tried the recommendation of resetting the phone and doing a full restore which also doesn't work.
I believe it's either a sub standard battery or possible a software or other hardware issue.
Has anyone ever gotten apple to admit the Iphone5 battery has issue?
I have 9 total apple devices in my household as far back as second gen iPod touch. All of my devices still hold power like new except my iPhone5.

  • New partition, full back up, stuck at 45% for over an hour??

    Hi All
Just doing first full back up after upgrade from Tiger to snow L, using 400gb partition in external HD(usb2). and now backup seems stuck at approx 45gb of the 102gb total to do.
    Any ideas??
    Cheers K

Is your TM disk set up properly?
Check (you can do that while the backup is running) via #C1 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
If it's ok, there are a few things you can try:
Exclude the TM drive from any anti-virus scanning (which you probably don't need anyway).
Exclude it, at least temporarily, from Spotlight indexing, via +System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy.+
Verify your internal HD, per #A5 in the Troubleshooting article.

  • I have an old ipod that i have not used in a very long time, ive had it on a charger now for over an hour and i still cnnot get my ipod to turn on, how can i fix my problem, i just downloaded the new version of itunes aswell, so i know its not my itunes.

i have an old ipod touch that i have not used in a very long time, and im having trouble gettign it to turn on. ive had it on a charger for over an hour now and still nothing hs changed. i just updated my itunes to the current version they haev so i know its not an itunes problem its rather a problem with the old ipod touch itself. im leaving for deployment soon and im trying to get this fixed without having to send it in. If anyone has any ideas on how to get this thing turned on it would be greatly appreciated.

    Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.

    iPhone Service Support and Costs
    iPad Service Support and Costs
There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.
The flat fee for a battery exchange is, I believe, $99.00 USD.

  • Have a new mac desktop that I want to use for syncing i-pad currently synced with old pc which I will be sicarding.  How do I switch computers with my I-pad??

have a new mac desktop that I want to use for syncing i-pad.  Currently synced to an old pc that I will not be using any
longer How do I switch computers for syncing?

The absolute best way to do this is to transfer your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one. You can find a numbr of ways to do that here.
    http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=transfer+iTunes+library+to+a nother+computer&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
If you want to spend the money for a computer application that will let you transfer all of the content from the iPad to iTunes - look at
    Touchcopy
However, I have posted this many times over the past few months. If you follow these instructions you should be fine. This will transfer the purchased content from the iPad into iTunes on the Mac. You will still want to get your photo library and any CD's that you imported into iTunes on the new Mac. That is why transferring the iTunes library to the new Mac is the best way to go.
When you set up the new Mac - if you can import or migrate all of the PC content onto the Mac - this will all be a non issue, but I'm not sure how to bring all of your PC content onto the Mac. Going from an old Mac to a new Mac was a breeze, but I know nothing about transferring the content from a Windows PC.
The 3 basic things to remember - authorize the computer, (Launch iTunes on your computer and go to Store>Authorize this Computer) transfer purchased content and backup.
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your Mac, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your Mac and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your PC. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/13016026#13016026
This support site will help you with transferring iTunes music to your new computer - if you have an iTunes library of music on another computer or hard drive.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
The worst case scenario is that you can download all of your apps again if needed - but you will not retain the data or app settings - but it is always an option if everything else fails - but it won't fail!

  • Freeze up after using for awhile...

I am having issues with my iBook freezing up after using for awhile. It will start up just fine, programs run just fine, but when i've been on the internet for a while (or typing in Word or anything requiring a significant amount of memory)my iBook freezes up and there is a periodic clicking noise coming from the lower left hand side (by the vent). I've tried resetting the memory and that didn't seem to help anything. Once the computer is frozen it is down for a while. It will only start up after it has been disconnected from any power source overnight. Then everything runs fine for a while and then the clicking begins again. Does this sound like an overheating issue, harddrive issue or software? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    iBook G3 (white)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for all the help! Here's an update.
My iBook now refuses to safe boot but instead will boot up normally! I haven't had any issues with it freezing up but I have only been using iTunes to transfer music to my ipod.
The S.M.A.R.T. status of my drive is "verified".
When attempting to boot into "safe mode", the loud clicking happens immediately but stops after about a minute or two and then the grey apple and progress indicator appear. It will stay like this for a couple of minutes and then it automatically restarts and will boot up into the normal mode.
When attempting to repair my drive via the system disk, I get the error message that the underlying task reported failure on exit. Written in red in the message window is "Keys out of order".
Also, the archive and install feature is not working. It tells me that there was an installation error and to retry installation.
I will look into expanding the memory and additional disk repair software.
I connect to the internet via ethernet(cable modem) and/or airport.
Thanks again for all the help!

  • Fairly new battery not charging after not being used for a while

My computer (Elitebook 2530p) has not been used for a while, perhaps a month or two. The battery used to hold for over 3 hours of light use.
Now, the battery won't charge with the message "0% available (plugged in, not charging)"
I can't find a battery refresh utility in the BIOS, or any way to interact with the battery. Is there something I'm missing? Should the battery just go dead after not being used for a while?
    Update: fixed typo

I've run the HP battery check and got the code REOOW. Battery is dead, and I am out of warranty. I can't think of any possible reason why this should have happened.
What does this code (REOOW) mean?

  • HT201320 I have tried for over 2 hours in trying to set up an email accout and followed the directions. I keep getting same error message over and over again. Invalid use rid or password

I have tried for over 2 hours to get email on my phone. Shut off and on and tried to pick new password. Keep getting error message. Very frustrated

Since the title of your post says " ... invalid use rid or password ...",  I suspect the issue is some illegal mix of blanks and/or special characters (e.g., punctuation) in either your user ID, password, or both.
Be very careful you are following the rules for what constitutes a legal user name and a legal password.

  • My iphone 4S wont allow me to restore a bckup of icloud it has just rebooted the os and for over 24 hours i have been trying to fix it i use this phone for my job so i need help

My iphone 4S wont allow me to restore a bckup of icloud it has just rebooted the os and for over 24 hours i have been trying to fix it i use this phone for my job so i need help. when i try to restore it says "Your iphone could not be activated becuase the activation server is unavailable, If the problom presests goto apple.com/support"   It has done this for 27 hours now PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

    - Connect the iPod to the computer and see if iTunes sees it. If it sees it try to get the photos off the iPod.
    - Next let the battery fully drain. It will likely take days. After charging for at least an hour try again
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My macbook's performance is quite slow and it freezes I haven't shut it down in over a month. I shut it down yesterday for over 12 hours yet upon starting up again the slowness persists. Removed Google chrome application the speed arose slightly any tips?

I haven't shut it down in over a month. I shut it down yesterday for over 12 hours yet upon starting up again the slowness persists. Removed Google chrome application the speed arose slightly any tips? I contacted a support member but unfortunately my warranty has run out, he suggested that may be a result of putting the mac into sleep constantly, and not shutting down and that there may be files i can clear to remedy the issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
    Regards.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

Probably a PC issue, you can try calling AppleCare, you are covered for 90 days from the date of purchase and can find the phone number in the owners manual. Also please look over:

    Thomas,
It would also be extremely helpful to those trying to help you if you complted your Profile so we at least know what iMac and version of OS X is installed. Click Your Stuff in the upper right then click Profile and complete the necessary fields including what part of the planet you're located.
