New iPhone 3g continuously dropping signal strength for no reason...HELP

Hello. My wife & I have been iPhone users since they few came out. Today I picked up our new 3g's and while her's always maintains a good, steady, strong signal...mine will continuously drop the signal down to one or no bars. This happens in areas where I've always had signal (ie: my house) & I compare her's to mine at the time & she continues to have full 5 bars. Any theories???

Hi - I noticed that, yes, she had 3g "off" & I had 3g "on." Once I turned off my 3g I had full bars. Does this mean that 3g hinders the actual cell signal for receiving calls? Or when 3g is "on" do the bars then only show 3g signal & not the phones ability to receive calls? Thanks!

  • My Iphone 5 keeps dropping signal (no service) in good service areas?

Help my iphone 5 keeps dropping signal saying no service then after a while it gets service again, sometimes this can take up to an hour. Also if i toggle airplane mode it sometimes comes back or if i switch the phone on and off it comes back. This is happening in areas of good signal. Back in January my phone did get wet but i dryed it off and its been faultless ever since apart from this recent problem of no signal. I have an Genius appointment booked for this Thursday to see what they will do about it, will they just blame it on the water eventhough i have seen this problem time and time again on the Internet and the best way seems to replace the faulty phone.?

Try restarting your iPhone. Press and hold the power and home button for 10 seconds and then turn your device back on. Otherwise, the place where you currently are may not have very good signal for ATT.

I was hoping it is just a software issue, but...
Saw may web sites discussing this same issue; many discussions point to hardware problems but there is no official word from Apple about it, which is disapointing !??  Few discussions point to software problem with solutions based on try and error, and they don't seem to work.

did not help at all; the problem continues the same

iMessage and Facetime won't activate on new iphone 5.  Both indicate "Waiting for Activation."  How do I fix?

I just activated a new iphone 4s and restored from a backup of my former iphone 3gs - had the same problem - Waiting for Activation on both facetime and imessage. I tried all the usual fixes, reset all, hard reset, turn facetime/imessage on and off, and on and on. 2 hours on phone with tech support to no avail.
I just found the fix on my own - no clue if it will work for everyone. But it's ridiculously easy and worth a shot so you don't waste hours and hours resetting/synching as I did.
All I did was go into settings>phone>my number - erase it by touching the ">". Then re-enter it making sure to input with the "+" and country code. For example in the US: +1(508) 569-9901
No hard reset necessary. I went into settings>facetime and imessage, immediately after inputting my phone number again and the dreaded "waiting for activation" message was gone. I tested sending a message - came thru to the other party fine and facetiming another device (my mom's ipad some distance away) and it rang thru with everything working properly i.e., video/audio.

Got a new iPhone that I've been using for about a month now, so the question is how can I get the pictures from my old iPhone and keep the pictures I have on the new iPhone?

Connect old iPhone to computer and save the pictures on computer.
Connect new iPhone and sync the pictures to your new iPhone.

  • I just buy a new iphone 4S, i wanna sync my data from 3GS to new iphone but i forget the password for the 3GS

i just buy a new iphone 4S, i wanna sync my data from 3GS to new iphone but i forget the password for the 3GS

Connect your 3GS in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

My iPHONE 5 wifi is NOT working when am 3 feet away from router while my iPhone 4s has full signal all the time. Please help.

The problem would seem to be in the firewall in your router.  Have you tried disabling it? I assume you've updated the router firmware, right?  Consider bypassing the ISP provided router (using it as a modem only) and unsing another device such as an Aiport Express.

My iPhone has started buzzing or beeping for unknown reasons.  It seems to happen when the battery is fully charged as well.

you cannot overcharge the iPhone battery.  You can leave it plugged in with a full charge for as long as you want.  It will not affect the battery at all.

  • Accurate cell signal strength for the iPhone

Is there a menu somewhere in the menu hierarchy that displays the current signal strength the pone is experiencing, in, say dbm? A typical number would be in the -80 to -90 range...

You can also make it permanently display the decibels. While in field test mode hold down the power button until you see the slide to power off... then hold the home button down until it goes back to the home screen... The decibels will now be displayed where the signal bars used to be. You can switch back and forth between the two just by tapping the signal bar area.

  • Brand new iPhone 4 - Nearly NO signal

    Hello.
I got a BRAND new iPhone 4 yesterday. Had **** much trouble activating it. Could not understand why, but i see now it's because of signal.
I got 1 bar in signal here. My 3GS lies beside it with full signal. Also my backup Sony Ericsson C702 got full signal. All on same operator. If i hold my hand over the iP4 i loose all signal, but 3GS and SEc702 is unaffected. I dont even touch it. Then i have to hold the iPhone 4 to the window and go slow in and lay it exact same place to hold the signal to 1.
This is in Norway, the dealer where i bought it would / could not help me. Apple said i had to talk to the dealer. The operator said they had no antenna problems nearby.
Anyone know how i can look this up? The dealer says i must order the "antenna fixing bumper" which is ********, because all that crap is build of is plastic! Which will not help the signal anyway.
Please? I would appreciate if i diden't have to wait any longer to use my phone. If i have to turn it back i end up at the end of the list of waiting persons. Dammit

    3GS = 5Bars (Full)
    I4 = 0 Bars / 1 Bar (DB: -113 when 1 bar)
    C702: 6Bars (Full)
    All on Edge.
    I4 is BRAND new yesterday.
    Tried:
    - Reset network
    - Reset all
    - Restore
    - Restore & restore backup
    - Download new ipsw and restore from
    - Jailbreak and unlock
    - Restore with other sim (other carrier)
    - Called apple (said it was the retailer's problem)
    - Called carrier (said it was no problem with the closest antenna)
    - Called retailer (said i either could get my money back or wait for the bumper since the antenna had a problem they said it had to be that!)
    - Restoring again with sim1 in
    - Restoring with sim2
    - Resetting all settings
    - Hard Reset
Still same problem. When i go outside i get 1 bar and edge (-113) can call and everything. But when i take it inside or puts it in my pocket i get "No Service".
If i return it i have to wait enourmus time to get it fixed. Since norway have to send it to apple repair to check it .. Norway only got 2000 iPhone4 and it's all sold out.
WHY apple? Why do you give me a defected device? Why dont you guys contact me and say "We'll send you a new phone directly NOW and you can just return the old to us!".
    Oh goood

  • Dropping signal strength

    hello,
recently I have changed from an AirPort basestation to an Airport Extreme basesation.
There are two iBooks (G3 and G4) and a PowerBook G4 using the wireless LAN.
Having now installed the latest (driver) software from Apple my iBook G4 (running on Panther) has four bars signal strength when booting or waking up. But within 20 to 30 seconds the signal strength drops to only two bars in the menu list.
This is strange to me because the PowerBook G4 (running on Tiger) has always four bars even if they are on the same table about 4 meters from the AirPort basestation away. Usually the PowerBook is further away and still has its four bars.
With my old AirPort both computers had always four bars.
Where shall I start searching to solve this?
If the signal drops even to one bar then sometimes the connection to the Internet is very poor (eg I had to click a hyperlink twice to get the page or I will run into a network timeout).
    thanks for your help
    ueli
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

the problem is solved, it had nothing to do with the change of the AirPort base stations. The iBook G4 had a broken antenna cable.

  • Brand new  I macbook continually drops wi-fi connection - possible solution

I know that there are many people looking for help on this, and no definitive solution. There are many (too many) LONG threads and a lot of "solutions" which may or may not work for you, including PRAM zaps, kext.cache trashings, router resets, encryption removal, password type changes, and on and on. The following I found on another site, and so far it appears to be THE ONE that has worked for me (knock on wood). IT IS VERY SIMPLE and I have no idea why it works, that's for the engineers and Apple to explain. I should add that in my case I am connecting to a third-party plain generic .11g router.
What you're going to do is TURN OFF IPv6. (If there's a penalty for doing this, I haven't noticed it, and it's far better than losing the connection all the time.
You go into your network pane of system prefs. and for the configuration that you're (trying) to use you look for where you can configure IPv6. Under Leopard it is harder to find, first you hit "advanced…" and then you choose the TCP/IP panel. It will show "configure IPv6" probably set to "automatically", the other choices are "Manually" and "Off". Set it to OFF. Once you hit OK, the change is NOT YET saved. "OK" will take you back to the previous panel where YOU STILL have to hit the APPLY button.
If you're superstitious you might as well save all and throw in a restart with a PRAM zap for good luck.
This is not my solution. A guy named JP posted it to a thread somewhere else. Here's the part of what he said that matters: " I also was getting frustrated and going out of my mind with my wifi dropping every 30 to 60 seconds, I reverted to what I learned in networking throughout my education, and I simply turned off IPV6 in my network settings, and VOILA, I have not dropped since, and I go from network to network. To disable IPV6, go to you airport settings,Open Network settings,Advanced,TCP/IP, and there you can simply disable IPV6, this is a quick fix that allows you to stay connected without getting booted, without having to modify anything, and if an update does finally become available, you have nothing to try to figure out, just install it."
Seems to have worked like a charm for me.

I have been having the same issue for the last two weeks. No real indication as to why it ever began other than I had turned off my router and Airport Extreme Base Station off for a weekend while I was away from my place.
iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, all have no issues at all with my Airport Extreme Base Station. Can stay connected throughout my living room, bathroom, bedroom, no issues whatsoever.
My 5 month old MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 Airport is sometimes perfect, able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue. Then, for no reason, I won't be able to join my wireless network, or when I can join, I can't pick up an IP address. And then it will connect, pick up and IP, and then it won't browse. No real rhyme or reason to when this will happen, or when it works.
I thought that it was an issue with my MacBook Pro, but then my sister visited with her brand new MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, and while a month ago she was able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue, this weekend she had all of the same issues I was having.
My XBOX 360 and MacBook Pro have absolutely no issues with the wired connection. Only my WAN seems to have this issue.
Did you ever find anything more to this?

  • I made the wrong choice when I connected my new iPhone 5 to my MacBook Pro for the first time (lost ALL my new photos because it restored settings that were 9 months old) - can I re-do this somehow and configure it as a new phone?

I connected my new iPhone 5 to my (now fully updated after two separate operating system upgrades!) MacBook Pro so that I could add my music to my new phone.  Rather than configuring it as a new iPhone, I chose to configure it as my old iPhone, thinking that this would make it easier for my music to be there.  WRONG.  Now my new iPhone 5 looks exactly like my old iPhone 4 did in OCTOBER, 2012 - photos, messages, contacts... anything done since then is gone (that was the last time I had backed up my old phone, which unfortunately was not connected to the cloud and is also lost somewhere in a New England lake :-().  What I could really, really use help with is finding out if I can have a do-over on my choice and at least get my new phone looking/acting like the new phone it is, and bonus would be to have the photos and videos I took with it this past weekend (it's only five days old!) restored.  Please help!

Look iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is a backup listed for your iPhone 5 dated BEFORE you restored your iPhone 4 backup to your iPhone 5? If not, your data is gone. If there is a backup, on your iPhone 5: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You should now be able to restore that backup, if it exists, to your iPhone 5.
