New iPhone 4 from AT&T was actually used, hardware problems now

In August I bought the iPhone 4 32 Gb (brand new) from AT&T and had it shipped to me. Then the WiFi and Bluetooth quit working and are now grayed out. I called Apple support who told me that the phone was previously registered to someone else! When I looked at the liquid sensors, both were red/pink. How do I get this taken care of? AT&T sent me a refurb when I paid for a new one. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this?

Update:
I found out my 2 year old took my iPhone for a swim. The only damage (surprisingly) was the smoked wifi and bluetooth.
I took it in to the Genius bar, told them the truth and they helped me out and replaced my iphone for free. I totally got blessed.

If the iphone is locked to Orange in Israel then only Orange in Israel can authorise Apple to release the lock .No one else
However if you look here Orange in Israel appear not to lock iPhones they sell

  • HT1414 i had hooked my iphone4s up  to itunes, i didnt read it correctly and chose to sync it with my old iphone, which is the 3g. how do i put my new iphone back to how it was before. i dont have none of my old photos or text from my iphone 4s. HELP

I had hooked my new iphone 4s up to itunes. I did not read what they were asking correctly, which was to "set up as a new iphone": or "restore backup." i choose restore backup, and now it looks like my iphone 3g. I lost all my photos from my iphone 4s, text messages, bookmarks, notes, emails, basically everything important. So i want to know how to put it back to normal, how it was on my iphone 4s. Please help, i lost alot of information.

If you haven't synced again since this happened you may still be able to restore from the backup that was created at the start of the sync process.  First, without connecting your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to Preferences, on the Devices tab look at the list of backups and identify if your backup prior to this happening still exists.  You can hover your mouse over the name of the backup to reveal the IMEI, phone number and serial number of the phone that was backed up, allowing you to identify which one is your 4S backup.  If the backup exists, do the following:
Without connecting your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically"
Now connect your phone to your computer.  When it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar right-click on its name and choose Restore from Backup, selecting the backup you identified earlier to restore from.
When the restore completes you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing if you prefer this.
This won't restore everything as certain data such as contacts and all iTunes media isn't included in the backup but at least you'll be able to get much of it back.

  • HT201269 When setting up my new iphone 5 from another iphone 5 (different carrier) I omitted to click on - Restore from iCloud back up. Now I can't see how to do it automatically. Is there a way of doing it after already connecting to iTunes?

After connecting my new iphone 5 to iTunes, I did not choose restore from iCloud Backup or iTunes Back up. I just clicked on New iPhone, because I was installing a new iphone 5 with a different carrier and sim etc. Now I don't have the option to go back. I have backed up my old phone to iCloud, so should I click on - Restore iPhone to get all the saved data from iTunes?

I found the answer in another discussion group, so I have just erased everything through settings on my new iphone and in Backups on itunes, I have clicked on restore back up. So it appears to be working.

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created an app sync nightmare with iTunes

I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, downloading the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (erasing app data and adding apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps (when the phone is plugged in for the first time) will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be a less painful option for the simple task of setting up a new device from an old device iCloud backup. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.

Ok, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.

Edit: Yes, I have 10.7.2 and all available system updates as of today (10/14/11).

  • Inability to restore apps to new iphone 5s from encrypted backup

Hi, thanks for any advice. I recently upgraded to iphone 5s following significant slowown of iphone 4 which until the ios 7 update was a perfectly usable device. I am now simply unable to fully restore a brand new iphone 5s from a full encrypted iphone 4 backup using itunes. I have followed to letter the instructions on apple's website.
The restore process runs through but only restores text messages, contacts and photos. None of the over 20 other apps are showing up on the new iphone 5s. Perhaps I am misreading what itunes can backup and restore. I would appretiate any suggestions. Thanks.

Can you access other apps? Can you acess the internet? Can you access applications that use internet besides facebook?
If answer is yes to all of these; contact Facebook.

Mate, I'm trying to find out if it was shipped like that or not. If someone else has had the same issue then I can go back to Apple and have them look into it further. If not then as I said Vodafone is selling second hand phones and they will have to replace the phone.
Vodafone account manager is saying that he has never heard of anything like it.
So I'm left with one of 3 answers.
1: The phone was shipped like that so its a factory error.
2: The Apple genius doesn’t know what he's talking about then I can go back to the store and ask for a second opinion.
3: Vodafone is selling second hand phones as new.
I need to narrow it down so I can deal with the account manager appropriately

Sorry to read about this. A relative had a similar experience. Just a few things she was told to do. Hopefully one will get your content back. Make sure you are logged in to the same Apple Account the last iPad was. You should have a recent backup that can be downloaded to have your new iPad look like the one you replaced. When I changed from one iPad to another I used my last backup and all my apps and photos reloaded with no issues. This was done over wifi.
Another way is connecting your iPad to a computer that is logged into your iTunes account. It will show what backups you have available to download To your iPad. Again hopefully a recent backup was made of your iPad with all your most recent content.
In my cloud settings I made sure any photos I took were uploaded to the cloud to be downloaded automatically to my iPhone and visa versa.
If you had your photos setup to be uploaded to the cloud they should still be there. You just need to be logged into your Apple ID and your new iPad and I see no reason you cannot access them. Hopefully it is a simple fix.
    good luck.  Jeff

  • Apps disappeared after restored new iphone 4 from back up

I just restored my new iphone 4 from my last 3GS back up, and all of my apps are gone! The folders I created are there, as is my 'wallpaper' and my address book, but none of my old apps.
I had to transfer the back up file (which took FOREVER) from my Mac to my PC laptop, because my Mac is running 10.4.11 and therefore work work with iphone 4. Updating the Mac to 10.6 is not an option b/c it's got a powerpc processor, and rather than shell out 125 bones for Leopard, I am going to replace the Mac (when I can afford to do so).
So does anyone have any idea why my apps didn't make it onto the new phone? Does it have to do with the fact that the phone was synced with the itunes library on my Mac? I will need to sync it to the Itunes library on the PC from now on(which is empty at the moment). Itunes asked if I wanted to sync it with this new library, but seems to suggest that doing that would wipe the phone. I can usually find the guidance I need through a search, but as my situation is a little complicated, I've been unable to find anything related to my specific problem. Any advice about how to rescue my apps would be most appreciated.

I just had this happen yesterday! Ggggggrrrrr. I was trying to update a couple apps on my iPhone 4, and a message kept popping up saying “Can’t connect to iTunes”. After about 3 tries I thought maybe I just needed to reboot the phone.
After the reboot and my iPhone turned back on, there were no more folders (except for one labeled ‘Utilities’ with about 4 apps in it on my home screen), and I had 11 pages of apps!
All my apps were not visible because I have more than can fit on 11 pages, so I had to wait until I got home and synced with iTunes, then all my apps were visible.
I had to manually recreate all my folders. I certainly hope Apple fixes this bug before it happens again – it’s beyond annoying!!

When you went back to the place where you purchased this phone, & asked them, what did they say?
No one here can help you with this, nor can/will Apple. You need to take this up with whoever you purchased this phone from.

I bought an iPhone 4 from a youngster who had put his own Apple ID on it but could not remember the password. I backed it up yesterday and restored to my new iPhone and it copied the Apple ID across too. Now I have 2 phones with it on. Anything I do?

that must be really annoying !!
so this is what you call
FIND MY IPHONE ACTIVATION LOCK Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support
when you start using iCloud on any iOS device and enable find my iPhone, this prevents  a new user from using it, and also prevents anyone from using the phone
as it is locked to previous owners account ,this is also the case if when a phone is lost or stolen.
the only way around this is to have the previous owner reset their apple id by going to  @ applied.apple.com
if they are unable to do this, then the only other way around this is to have the previous owner get  a copy of their original receipt and call apple support who can then lift this lock if they get a copy of the receipt
unfortunately there is no quick fix -> the below link explains what you should do before you sell or give away an iPhone
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • How can I sign out from old icloud email on my device? I changed email recently and by mistake restored my new iphone 6 from old back up with email that doesn't exist. Pls help!

I have changed i cloud email recently, and wanted to set up my new iphone 6 from 2 months old back up. Later I found out that icloud has old email, but it doesn't recognize password to sign out because it is not in i cloud system anymore. Now I cant turn off stupid icloud to reset my new iphone 6
How can I change icloud email or reset and erase new phone 6 if it is stuck on an old apple id which doesnt exist?

The fact that the email address doesn't exist anymore doesn't matter. As far as the Apple ID is concerned, the email address is just a user name. As long as you know the password you used, it should be fine.
If you don't remember the password, start here:
