New iphone 5 dfu or restart problem

Hi all,
Ive had my iphone 5 for three days now and its been working fine. Last night woke up in the middle of the night and when I looked at my phone To check the time I noticed the apple logo on the screen. Logo went away and the screen remained on but black, like dfu mode. Tried holding the power button but I kept getting the same thing, apple logo to black screen. I held the power and home button together and it turned off. Held power button again and it turned on. Seems to be working fine again.
Anyone have any ideas of what happened?

I stumbled upon this post as I researched my own similar problem to Psalmy's original one. I've used an iPhone 3gs on AT&T for the past three years and at the same particular intersection in my neighborhood outside Seattle, I'd always load a particular traffic map website for my morning commute and the 3gs had no problem connecting at 3G speed at that intersection. Last weekend I just upgraded my phone to an iPhone 5 and my wife to an iPhone 4s, both of us on AT&T. In the past week, I've never seen either phone display 3G connectivity. It's either at "E" or at "4G" (or sometimes "LTE" in the case of the iPhone 5).
Interestingly at that particular intersection I mentioned, my iPhone 5 connects only at E and struggles to load the traffice map from the particular website I check every morning. I've driven around my neighborhood with both my iPhone 5 and my wife's iphone 4s on the seat next to me. They both either connect at E or at 4G. They never display 3G. And yet for years, my old iPhone 3gs connected at 3g on these same streets. I thus share Psalmy's concern/question. It seems as if these phones, at least at this particular location, try to connect at 4G and if they can't, they fall back to E.
This of course, is pretty lame given that if 3G speeds are an option in this neighborhood (as I found with my old 3gs), I'd much prefer the phones default to 3G rather than E. What I'm observing actually gives credence to what m00nman was told by the AT&T rep.
Anyone have any further insight on this? I spoke with first tier support at both AT&T and Apple and they were not particularly helpful. (Told me to reset network settings on the phones--which I will try, but I'm not optimistic)

    The ! sign before the song means that the actual song is no longer on your computer and/or iTunes library.

  • I have a new iphone 4 but have a problem in that the network reads Sim not provisioned, please advise how to overcome this problem?

    My new iphone has been recognised by itunes, updated the software but unable to connect to a network, on checking "Network" the phone is searching but to no avail. In "About, Network, there is a statement reading SIM not provisioned". I have no idea what this refers to perhaps someone could advise? 

    I've managed to speak to someone who knew what he was talking about and having confirmed the original sim on my iPhone 3 followed by confirming the number on the iPhone 4 Micro Sim he advised that the new micro sim had not been activated. As a direct result we'll head off to one of their support offices to activate and hopefully pass on the iphone 3 to another of our employees after a reset of course!

  • Can't sync new iPhone 4 with iTunes without it locking up iTunes

    Got my new iPhone 4 last Friday. They tell me I need to register it and sync it. Didn't get around to trying that until yesterday. Tried most of the day and night last night, using iTunes 9.whatever it was. Kept on locking up iTunes. Tried deleting iTunes, reinstalling it and trying again. Didn't work. Even trying to register the phone made iTunes lock up.
    Downloaded iTunes 10 last night. Have the same situation, BUT, it finally did allow me to finally register my phone this afternoon. Thought the problem was solved. Still won't allow me to sync.
    Sync starts up (took it off the auto-sync setting) and it says it is going to backup the device - Step 1. Sometimes the progress bar moves 1/4 inch, sometimes 1/2 inch. Sometimes it just has the moving pattern on it. Once or twice, it actually got to Step 2, whatever that is. It always locks up. I've left it running for hours... still won't work.
    Was told to delete iTunes, restart, delete trash and reinstall it. Tried that SEVERAL times, still didn't work. Was told to delete some other files (the IT guy was standing beside me because I have NO clue as to what to do with these files) - at least 1 file from the Library and not certain where the others were. That didn't work either. It just keeps on locking up iTunes and quite often, when I check with Force Quit, it shows that iTunes isn't responding. I repaired disk permissions. Didn't work. I unchecked what to sync - just trying to sync Apps now, and it still doesn't work.
    All software is up-to-date on both the phone as well as my MBP. I'm at a loss. Anyone have any ideas?
    Just tried it again and just plugging in the iPhone caused the beach ball to start spinning. I've GOT to be doing something wrong, but I'm at a loss.

    After purchasing a new iPhone 5S I had a problem syncing iTunes with the iPhone...At the Apple Store, the Service Rep backed up my iPhone to iCloud in order to transfer all data from the old phone to the new phone. At home when I tried to sync iTunes with my new iPhone 5S, iTunes would not recognize my new phone. I discovered iTunes was configured to back up data to my Mac hard drive and the iPhone was configured to back up data to iCloud. There was a conflict, subsequently causing iTunes to not recognize my new iPhone 5S. My solution was to delete iCloud from the iPhone. After doing this, iTunes synced with the iPhone with no problems. No data was lost and syncing occurred normally.
    I recommend these as possible solutions:
    1) The Apple store will back up your phone using iCloud. Make sure that iTunes is configured to back up to iCloud before you plug your new phone into iTunes for syncing/back-up. If your iTunes is configured to back up data to your hard drive, ensure that the Apple Store does not back up your phone data to iCloud. You will have to back up all iPhone data yourself at home on iTunes.
    2) If they insist on backing up your phone data to iCloud from your old phone to your new phone then, be sure to delete the iCloud account off your new phone before you try to sync your new phone to iTunes.
    I used the 2nd solution to solve my syncing issues. Everything works great now. iTunes recognized my new phone and can now sync/back-up data with out problems, error messages or loss of data.
    Hope this helps everyone out! I intend to get drunk to relieve all the stress and hopefully restore my sanity as a result of having to solve this problem while having to act as my own Apple support staff!

  • New iphone 5, Invalid Security Code - frustration !

    I have been buying itunes apps and music for close to 9 years with my visa card. Today, after getting a new iphone 5 last week I bought my first game. That is, I tried to and entered a nightmare. I get a warning for invalid security code, and when I want to give an answer to my security questions it won't let me. I called apple support, and I can't find a way to enter a new credit card or any card. I used to pay with paypal connected to my bankaccount. Now all of a sudden it tells me that iphone 5 does not support paypal anymore.
    I can not find how to change my security code questions, nor can apple support. They can't get into my account because the security code on the back of my card is not matched. Tried with several different cards (which I don't really want to do - I want to continue to pay itunes stuff with paypal like I have done for the last 9 years).
    The apple rep will call me back next week, so for now I can not buy any app nor music on my phone... I can work around it and buy via itunes, but that is not what I want. I want to buy stuff wherever I am, that is why I got an iphone after all, to use wifi and be able to buy stuff on the move.
    It looks like there is a giant bug in IO6 that has to do with paypal, credit cards or debit cards. I do have enough money in my account...
    I do not understand why all of a sudden I need to give in security answers to questions that I never saw before and therefore also don't know what answers to give. The answers I give are the truth but they come back as wrong.
    My visa card comes back with an unmatchable security code on the back with the card number on the front.
    What is going on with visa cards and apple IOS6????
    Also, as long as the apple rep can not pair the card, there is no way to change the security questions, and as I can not give the right answers to the security questions they can not get into my account to change a thing.
    If they can not verify that I am the person who I say I am they can't do a thing...
    Before last week and the arrival of my new iphone 5 I never had problems like that.

    Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. If still problem after the Restore take it to Apple. Replacement iPhone still has Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution.

  • Sound crapped out on the new iPhone 4

    so after using pandora for may be 2 minutes into the new eminem song ... sound just went kapoot ...including ringtones/sms sounds basically systemwide meltdown of sound ...only sound that i get is thru ear piece...just did couple of restores and set it up as new iphone but still the same problem ... tried toggling silent switch a couple of times but does not seem to get it off ... roughly 14 hours into getting this iphone and already crapped out on me ...im afraid to go to an apple store to a genius bar due to all the launch day madness...wonder when i will be able to resolve this issue ... FAIL.

    Go to Settings/General/Reset - Erase all content and settings. the connecto to iTunes and restore as a New phone. Do not restore any backup. If the problem persists you have a hardware problem. Take it to Apple for exchange.
    This assumes that the phone is not hacked or jailbroken. If it is you will have to go elsewhere on the internet for help.

    Thanks for the straightforwardness roaminggnome - I wasn't sure if this problem qualified as deseving a reset. Unfortunately, for some reason I can't explain, your response remained undisclosed to me for a while, the next reply after yours took preference and I ended up doing as Meg St.Clair's susgested and initiated download, installation and syncing of Smartsync which is now taking ages to finish... If problem persists shall do the resetting and restoring.
