I am buying my son who is 13 years old a iPhone 5 and I was wondering if I could get some basinc do's/don't's.
I have a policy now for the iPod that it gets left in the kitchen before bed and that I have access to it. Now that he'll
have access to data outside of the house I'll be more suspicious butI don't know that I'll be able to see all that he's
been up to and I really want to know where he's been and done or find a good way of restricting what he's doing or
where he's going.

About all you can do is set what restrictions are available:

particularly those involving purchasing from the iTunes Store. You may also consider turning off Safari and getting one of the web browsers that allow you to filter or restrict content, such as the McGruff browers or MobiCIP. Otherwise, there's not much you can do to control what he does.

new iphone 5 and 4 year old macbook, and for some reason my computer says a later version of iTunes is required. So, i went to ITunes and found i have the latest version availble at this time. iTunes say phone can not be synced because it requires a version of 10.7 or greater?
iPhone 5 requires OS X 10.6.8 & iTunes 10.7 or greater. I suspect you're running Leopard, 10.5.8, correct? If so, you will first have to update your OS, then iTunes in order to sync your phone.

I exchanged iphones last week ,however I am not able to get into my App or iTunes since my two year old original id pops up instead of my current id. I can't retrieve a password as I am with Comcast email not Verizon anymore. My Mac signs into my current account id and password without difficulty.How do I get my current id on my iPhone . Just bought a new iphone 5, i have an old imac computer OSX 10.5.8 and itune version 10 (updated at great cost last year for iphone4) it dosen't let me restore data... any chance of update or do i have to thow away my computer (and never by Mac again?)
You an use your iPhone without connecting it to a computer.
But the product description for the iPhone clearly states that in order to sync with a Mac you must have OSX 10.6.8 or later. That version of the OSX is usually called Snow Leopard. There are two mo recent versions of OSX. OSX 10.7.x (Lion) and OSX 10.8.x (Mountain Lion).
If you can upgrade your computer to at least Snow Leopard I suggest you do so. -
I have had my iPhone for about a year, and I have a photo file from my old blackberry. When I go to back up my photos, it only backs up the camera roll. How do I back up the other album? The laptop where I had those photos broke, please can someone help.

Trying to make my old 3G iphone an iPod for my 4 year old. I have found lots of ways to do so online. PROBLEM: It's been off for 2 years. When I charged it and turned it on it only flashes many different languages. Will only allow me to call emergency number. Any ideas how I can log on to it?
Im pretty sure what you are looking at is Set up Assistant where it shows different languages on the slider. If I am right then just slide to unlock and follow the prompts to choose your language, country etc.

It should be a good choice. I recently got the 5C which typically is $99 with supported carriers. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint provide attractive pricing with a two year contract or it you are adding a line to your current service. I have several friends using the 4S, and they have been very pleased with them.

I just updated my iPad2 to ios7 and everything returned except my movies. Why??? I was trying to ADD a movie for my 5 year old and it said I needed a later iOS. Now he has ZERO movies!!!! Just great!! Can anyone help??
For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

So we got two new iPhone for the kids and sent them money to their iTunes account for buying apps. However they still cant as the phone wants thier account linked to a credit card. If they have money in thier account why is this? Is there anything that can be done other then putting a credit card in thier account? Should it work off the balance of funds in the account?
So they both have 'no payment' accounts and have been iTunes members for a few years. When I want to allow them to buy music I send them gift cards through email. This adds funds to their accounts and allows them to spend. I assumed this would work for iPones apps too. However the apps store does not seem to see the funds in thier iTunes account when trying to buy an app. Each time they try to buy an app it asks for credit card information but does not see the funds in their account already. All other things work fine... such as downloading free apps etc.
So I was wondering is there account settings that need to change or is there other ways of send funds to them for the app store.

New Iphone for Christmas present.
Im really wanting to get my boyfriend the new iphone for christmas since he already has a plan with at&t. The only problem is I don't want him to know until christmas and then after christmas we both go in together to get his phone number transferred over to the iphone. My question is, is there anyway to just buy the iphone with out switching the contract over to the new phone or getting a new one? Because right now all I want to do is basically get an empty sell of a phone. lol
Well to get a phone at the price advertised (the subsidized price) you have to 1) be eligible for an upgrade if you already are with AT&T) and 2, agree to two year extension. Thus your boyfriend has to be present to do so as he has to authorize.
Otherwise you have to pay FULL price for a contract free iPhone (a lot more money).
So pretty much need to just print out a nice picture of the iPhone, put it in a card and say you want to buy him one. -

Take it in to Apple as only they can decide. If they decide it is a defect covered under the warranty, they will replace it. If they determine it was caused by something you've done or an accident, then you will have to pay for an out of warranty replacement. However, Apple will have to make that call, so take it so they can evaluate it.

After backing up my new iPhone with content from my old iPhone, all of my new content (photos, voice memos, etc) was deleted. How do I retreive this?
If you just bought the iPhone today, the first time you connect a new iPhone or iOS device to iTunes the first time that is used to sync with another iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iOS device to the new iOS device, or set up the new device as a new device.
Sounds like you did the former and if so, this did not include backing up the new iPhone first. All data on the iPhone was replaced with the backup for the iPod Touch. The data that was on the iPhone at that time is gone.

Identify Photos with Faces in List view
I have duplicate photos in aperture, I'm trying to clean them up in the LIST view Sometimes my duplicate photo has a Face or place where the other does not. How can I quickly see if the photo has a Face assigned to it so I know which file to keep?
