New IPHONE 5, no sound?

I bought an iphone 5 less than two weeks ago from my local AT&T store (no apple store around). Everything was working fine until yesterday when the speakers stopped working. It vibrates for reminders,calls, etc. but no sound. If I try to play music, my phone looks like it is playing but there is no sound. The speakerphone is not working. The volume is turned up. I've gone through my itunes and iphone settings. I've restarted the phone several times. I have restored it using itunes. I have checked that headphone jack is clear and that the speakers are clean (less than two weeks old and was immediately encased in an defender series otterbox). I rely on the alarms and reminders daily. What can I do?

5 months ago, I lived less than 2 miles away from an apple store. Now, I live 3 hours away from the nearest Apple store so visiting one wouldn't be feasible for a spur of the moment mid-week tip with my schedule (This is essentially why I searched this forum for answers instead of making an appointment at Apple). I didn't realize the AT&T 14 day rule. I had never planned to return the phone. It stopped working on day 12 (day 13 was a Sunday so AT&T was closed). I tried troubleshooting (posting & reading in this forum and elsewhere) for a day before I took in my local AT&T. They do would do absolutely nothing on day15. Apple will only repair the lemon phone I was sold under warranty. The trouble is I bought a new phone and want a functioning new phone, not a refurbished lemon. The only way Apple will replace my new lemon iphone 5 with a functioning new iphone 5 is if I agree to pay for a second new phone and shipping (So I had to buy two iphones in one month plus shipping). Upon receipt of the new functioning phone, I returned the lemon phone. When they receive the return and process the return, then they'll refund $750 for the second phone but not the additional $29 shipping. This is their policy. Within my family we have an ipod nano, 3 ipod touches, 2 ipads, 3 iphones and new 27" iMac. We have always gotten great service from Apple when purchasing directly from Apple. Notsomuch when we have bought from other stores. Apple did ultimately replace my phone but I did NOT appreciate having to buy two new iphones in one month for them to do the honest thing. After all, the fact remains that their quality control should've been better.
I will never buy anything from AT&T again.

    These are computer amplified speaker systems you would hook up to you desktop computer using a mini audio cable usually supplied with the system.  The mini cable ends plug into the old iPhone 4's and the iPads and allow the music to be heard like a good stereo system.  The cable fits into the new iPhone 5, but no sound is played.  Is this any clearer?

  • Brand new iphone 4 - NO SOUND

    I bought my iPhone 4 (Operating system is 4.1 and the modem baseband is 5.14.02.)a week ago in NY Apple store. I bought it w/o an AT&T contract, since I live overseas.
    Since the first use, I couldn't hear any audio coming out of the iphone. Tried changing the sound setting, sound button, restored my iphone usinf iTunes and even tried DFU. Nothing worked, still no sound.
    A few important notes for understanding the exact problem:
    1. When I connect headphones, there's no sound as well, however the iphone recognizes headphones are connected.
    2. When I press the home button for a few seconds and voice control comes on, instead of a short beep there's a short vibration.
    3. When I connect my phone via Blutooth to my computer, all sounds work fine through the computer speakers.
    This is very frustrating.
    What should I do?

    Thank you for all your answers, however....
    1. My iPhone is not hacked.
    2. The iPhone does distinguish between a plugged earphone situation and a speaker one, therefore can't be that it doesn't know if the earphones are plugged in or not. Plus there is NO sound when I plug the earphones in.
    3. I will not be returning my iPhone, since there's going to be an unlock pretty soon.
    Any other ideas..?

    It sounds like Safari has somehow been installed in a user / Applications folder instead of the Macintosh HD / Applications folder where it should be.
    Log in as the user that can open Safari, navigate to home / Applications and drag the Safari icon out of there to the Macintosh HD / Applications folder. Then drag it to the Dock and drop it when the other icons move aside for it.
    You should now be able to access Safari from all accounts.

    I have had this same problem for weeks now with my 4S.  I just got a new 5S after being extremely frustrated and the same thing - no sounds.  After searching posts all over, I couldn't find a solution. I just told my friend of the issue and he asked "Do you have the Do Not Distrub on?"  I didn't even know such a function existed.  Upon looking that was exactly the issue.
    To resolve, go to Settings> Do Not Disturb> Manual.  If it is green, turn it off.  You will now get phone calls and text alerts.
    This functionality is also on your quick access utility menu (slide up menu).  I assume this is how it was enabled on my phone.
    I will post on other sites since I searched for weeks for this solution and didn't see it anywhere.  Good luck!

  • Sound crapped out on the new iPhone 4

    so after using pandora for may be 2 minutes into the new eminem song ... sound just went kapoot ...including ringtones/sms sounds basically systemwide meltdown of sound ...only sound that i get is thru ear piece...just did couple of restores and set it up as new iphone but still the same problem ... tried toggling silent switch a couple of times but does not seem to get it off ... roughly 14 hours into getting this iphone and already crapped out on me ...im afraid to go to an apple store to a genius bar due to all the launch day madness...wonder when i will be able to resolve this issue ... FAIL.

    When I shake my iPhone or walking with it, I can hear that the iPhone are sounds like something or parts inside the phone are moving, or maybe not on the fixed position at all.
    I did the research on Internet, and meet a friend in NZ who had same problem at there, then apple replace a new iPhone 5to him during the sounds.
    How can I know my iPhone 5 are broken or just normal?

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
    iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

    At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it???  I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

    A couple of other things you can try -
    With my 2010 Ford Fusion (and SYNC) I received the same not optimized message a few times. There were several things I had to do but eventually, I got it cleared up. Not sure exactly how this will translate to your Toyota but maybe it will.
    - Try resetting the iPhone via a power off/on or a hard reset where you hold the home and power buttons. Then power back on and plug into your USB port.
    - In my case I had an issue with SYNC in my car where I needed to reset the USB port in my car. Not sure if Toyota has something similar. The fact that you said it won't charge makes me wonder if the USB port got disabled in your car. This happened in my car and an easy reset for me was to remove a fuse for a few minutes and replace.
    - Update your iPhone in iTunes and resync it there. Then try connecting again in yor car.
    - Delete and re pair your iPhone from your Toyota system

    Do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide, Appendix B:
    Restart phone
    Reset phone
    Restore in iTunes using a backup
    Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
    If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware problem that needs evaluation by Apple or whoever provides iPhone warranty service in your country.

    Make sure it's plugged in all the way, because it clicks when it's no all the way In and many users get confused. If not try turning it.
