Will Apple ever come out with a new iPhone, that will be different. I am looking for a new phone that is rugged. I work a lot and make many calls with my phone while working. I was wondering if apple could come out with a new iPhone that was indestructible, shatter proof, and water proof. I love apples iOS system, but I really need a phone, that I can have on me while working. I have thought about it a little bit, that if Apple came out with a new iPhone, such as the iPhonei, which would be the iPhone indestructible. This would be a phone that will get lots of great feedback. As I said love iOS, but i need a rugged phone, so if you combine the you will get a great phone, with great results.

I seriously doubt it. Name another smart phone brand with with an indestructible model. If there were significant demand for such a phone which would need to be in the millions, more than likely there would be such a model available along with being much more expensive.
There are cases available that provide much of that. I had an employee drop his iPhone 4S with an Otterbox defender case on asphalt from a lift at 50 feet and the case had some minor damage but no iPhone damage.

Voice memos in iOS7, on new iphone 5s cuts off recordings

Hi,
Voice memos has always been super reliable in previous versions but on a new iphone 5s with ios7 I'm finding it cuts off recordings very unpredictably - sometimes after less than a minute sometimes after a quarter hour or so.
I've seen other threads where the issue has been described but this has been explicitly on longer recordings or where the recording is finished so wanted to raise this again as an issue on new hardware with recordings of any length where the recording stops by itself.
The bug is making the app unusable at present which is a shame as it looks like it could be a greatly improved app.
Any ideas?

The worse thing about this is that Apple Support does not appear to know about it and steered me in the wrong direction. Today I tried it again and lost another 50 minute recording.
Apple needs to fix this and let users and tech staff know ASAP.
This has now cost me 2 hours of client time, plus 3 hours of tech support. The client information is priceless to me. I will not be able to retrieve the content of those discussions, even if I conduct the meetings again. Too many variables were at play.
I am beyond disillusioned that this issue is being reported in various threads throughout the fall and has not been addressed, and that phone support is unwaware, so more users will end up with the same terrible losses.
It is, in my opinion, highly irresponsible and a show of disrespect to customers to permit this to be occuring without warning users or applying fixes.

How do i find the password to unlock my iphone backup file for a new iphone?

New iphone won't do anything! can't sync, turn on, etc

I posted a similiar reply regarding this in the other thread, but I don't think it is related necessarily to the new upgrade, so I hope someone can help me here. Sorry about the double post, I'd delete the other if I knew how!
I just got a new iphone today and of course it's battery was pretty low. So I shut it off until I got home. I downloaded itunes and registered and got that running, then I plugged in the iphone and it opened up fine in itunes. It asked me to register, etc and that was all fine. Then it told me there was an update for it and did I want to update? I said yes, though the guy who set it up for me in the store said he already had done so with the new update, so I was a bit confused why it wanted me to do it again...but what do I know? I've never had an iphone before. So it downloaded something and then said it updated. Right after this it gave me a pop up window (on win xp) saying the iphone could not be updated, error. So I shut it off, unplugged it, closed itunes, restarted everything and tried again. Nothing. It just kept coming up with a picture of its usb cord and an arrow pointing to the itunes logo. (it would be nice if it used words sometimes, not just pictures...like really!?) Now that's all it does. I restarted everything again and reset the iphone by holding down the home and off switch as instructed by a friend. After doing this, itunes recognized it and told me it had to be restored, so I did this. Then the same little window popped up saying the iphone had and unknown error "2002" and could not be restored. And all it continues to do is show the usb picture, arrow and itunes icon. I don't know what to do!
It doesn't appear to be charging either, but I'm not sure what it looks like when it's charging even. I'm really at a loss. I thought maybe it was because its battery is really dead, but I'm not convinced just leaving it plugged in will help because it really doesn't look like it's charging. I really hope someone can help me! I haven't even had a chance to look at the thing yet and I already am starting to hate it! Argh!

Welcome to the discussions,
Try to connect the phone to the adapter to charge it. If it is charging, you'll see a little lighting bolt in the battery icon in the upper right corner. Let it charge for about 30min. and then connect it again to your computer to restore it. I have a new iphone 5 and cannot get the bugs worked out. Is Iphone5 just a 'dud'? For starters, everytime I have a phone call, there is this loud screeching noise in the phone. Sometimes the other person can hear it and sometimes not. It is loud enough at times I just have to end the call. Also, this phone has problems with staying connected. Is the 4g that much different than the 3g? I have had a Iphone 4 for two years and loved it with no problems. This one has been a problem from day one. Get another one you say? Well, here's the kicker, I did. I sent the other one back because I am on ATT and they allowed me to send it back and get another one. The exact same problems as the first one. I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

I registered my new iPhone 5s to my usual Apple ID, however it isn't showing in my devices when I log in. I tried to register it by adding a new device, but it tells me it's already registered to a different Apple ID. I'm really not sure how to fix this.

When I check on the phone itself (iCloud and App Store settings) the Apple ID is correct. I'm not sure where else to check.
Whilst setting up the phone, it prompted me to register, which I did. Then when connecting to my laptop through iTunes it prompted me again so I registered again. I even got a confirmation email to the email address associated with my Apple ID that the registration was successful.
How can I add my iPhone 5s to the list of devices on the correct Apple ID?

Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days. You can do some of this with Home Sharing. You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID. Change the AppleID on the new phone to the old ID. Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. HT201269 When setting up my new iphone 5 from another iphone 5 (different carrier) I omitted to click on - Restore from iCloud back up. Now I can't see how to do it automatically. Is there a way of doing it after already connecting to iTunes?

After connecting my new iphone 5 to iTunes, I did not choose restore from iCloud Backup or iTunes Back up. I just clicked on New iPhone, because I was installing a new iphone 5 with a different carrier and sim etc. Now I don't have the option to go back. I have backed up my old phone to iCloud, so should I click on - Restore iPhone to get all the saved data from iTunes?

I found the answer in another discussion group, so I have just erased everything through settings on my new iphone and in Backups on itunes, I have clicked on restore back up. So it appears to be working.

Having done a lot of reading today and having found a very good online tablet magazine (will post link tomorrow) there seems to be a few tech bods onto the problem.
The magazine I was reading identified wifi problems within hours of the ios 6 release and have been analysing since then with almost daily updates - the story seems to be:
The apple authenthication transmission is normal, it should slip through event prior to a full handshake with the host network being completed - however if not authenthicated then apple will not permit the device to connect (kills the connection) this is designed to protect apple from counterfeiting. So thats problem 1 if you dont receive a token from apple.
Problem 2 is that ios 6 only supports ipv6 (the new ip protocol) whereas outside silicon valley a large proportion of routers modems etc are still ipv4 protocol.
So youre locked into ipv6 in a world where ipv4 devices are everywhere and apple have not allowed for the ability to handle both protocols. This is like GM telling you your car requires an upgrade, everything will improve etc and as part of the upgrade fits a fuel cell motor and stays silent when their upgraded vehicles are simply parked up because they cannot get fuel.
A very basic expectation would have been dual protocol handling - we know the HW supports ipv4 as all wad fine on ios5.
So its going to be hit and miss with networks - more hit than miss in techy areas like silicon valley, but more miss in places like where I am - a small town in rural Switzerland.
Only apple can fix this with a patch to enable ipv4 protocol handling.
There you go. you just need to buy a new router, I'm sure Apple has one for sale, cause it's not there fault for sure.

How to Use Multiple iDevices with One Computer

Will the problems I am having with slow Safari response times continue if I port the image of my 4 to an new iphone 5?

As in many families, I am ready to upgrade my iphone 4 to a 5 and pass on my 4 to my partner (who has my old 3), BUT I am resistant to do so because I have been having problems with Safari, (very slow response time) ever since I upgraded to the new OS a month or so back. I have completed all the cleaning tips (cookies, individual app shut downs) and hard boot steps with no change. I can sit my partners Iphone 3 next to my 4 and when using Safari it beats it hands down, almost doubling the time it takes on the 3. My 4 is quicker on all the other apps so I don't believe it is a hardware issue. My tests were done using our home wi fi set up the same on both phones after running all the cleaning tips on both.
I actually broke down and called the support line and the first level support told me if I upgraded to the 5 I would likely carry the problem to the new phone. She said she suspected malware or a virus and that for $300 she could forward me to second level support that could scan my phone and see what the problem is on my 4 and support any issues on a new iphone 5 OR for a one time lower fee $79, just help me fix my 4.
Thinking through her options, I chose none of the above. Seems like I should be able to either 1) isolate the issue myself with the help of this forum or 2) upgrade to the iphone 5 and if the problem follows to the new one, get the support via the new device warranty. If the support person is correct and the problem is in the software and would follow the device, then in theroy I could wipe and restore my old 4 with the back up/data of my partners 3 and the problem on the 4 should be resolved.
I really don't want to carry the problem to a new phone if I can fix the issue first. I have airwatch software to push my work email to my phone and that is usually a pain to do when I upgrade anyhow. I don't need to pay for a new phone that has the same problem as my old one. I will get grief from my partner for passing on an issue that will come up with the daily use of the old iphone 4 that I will be responsible to fix anyhow. I have invested too much time already to generate problems on both our phones. Thanks in advance for any tips or guideance about a streamlined way forward.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Has any of this been tried?
FYI, there are no viruses that affect iOS unless the device has been hacked or jailbroken, in which case they cannot be discussed here.

A Problem with Maps in OS 6 (New iPhone too)

I read on abc.com that there is a big problem with the Maps app on the iPhone 5. Not sure if it is in all devices running OS 6 but I would think so. has anybody heard about this? Anybody heard if a remedy is on the way?
I am also wondering if people are sleeping out at the Apple Stores? I do not have a TV so I can't watch the local news. I called the local Apple Store and this afternoon the Apple rep who answered the phone said if you want one you better come and get in line. I askd if they plan to have a workshop (free) for the new iPhone 5 and he said NO. I doubt that.

No, no one has heard anything. Seriously, have you even tried using the Search Discussions box at the upper right of this page? Or just scrolled down the page and looked at the threads about the Maps app?
