New iPhone for $200 less...

I was annoyed to find out that the new iPhone is coming out for $200 less that I paid for mine. I feel taken advantage of!

"I was annoyed to find out that the new iPhone is coming out for $200 less that I paid for mine. I feel taken advantage of!"
This always cracks me up, when in the history of a new technology has a product cost not been insanely high because the gotta' have it people will pay for it and then it drops down?
Anyone remember what High Def TVs were a few years back? I remember almost paying $700 for the SONY Machiva digital camera, I think it was 1MP. I think of that and am so glad I didn't get swallowed in by that rush.
It's basic marketing to get people excited and talking about the product, the gotta' have folks show it off to their friends and get them excited so they will buy when the price drops and becomes more reasonable, like it always does.
I agree that the $200 drop in cost 2 months after it came out was a bit lame, but in the same respect it's when I got mine because I saw the price drop into a more reasonable range. People that buy right away, buy for the status symbol of having the shiny new toy and unfortunately you always have to pay that price.

  • Is it possible to get a 3g iPhone for $200? "used" on the open market?

After I called to check i could get an iPhone for $200 like 4 times, I sold my blackberry last night and went into the store today to buy one but apparently I am not "eligble" to get an iPhone for 200 and they want double.
I'm not paying that price, A) because I cant afford it, and B) I was told I was eligible but they dont care (obviously)
So is it possible for me to find a "used" but new, 3g iPhone for aroudn $200?
If they always go for 300-500 on the open market, I'm not going to waste my time and just switch carriers.
please tell me that i can.
    Thanks guys.
    This is really disappointing.

    PsychedelicWonders,
Anybody selling an iPhone 3G that is carrier locked to AT&T is probably going to be asking for at least somewhere around $400.
Even if they live in a state that has overturned the Early Termination Fee, if you cancel in the first month or so you may still have to payback the subsidy that AT&T paid toward the cost if you don't return the phone. If you cancel after the first month or so, you will still have to pay the activation fee / first bill, and Early Termination Fee in most cases. That is going to add up.
    Hope this helps,

Thanks. I messed up with my husbands iphone because I was told the wrong thing. Now everytime I sync his phone it makes it look just like the other phone I had. Do you know how I can fix taht for his phone? Any settings I can turn off that will prevent all of my apps/contacts, etc from auto populating his phone?

  • New IPhone for a friend but

    Hello-
I see the update for the iPhone came out. I just purchased a new iPhone for a good friend and would like to give it to him with as little to do as possible. he will probably not keep up on things but that is his nature.
About this update, I think I hear it is a security patch. How do the iPhones get their downloads? Does it just hapen when the machine is turned on?
Also, he wanted one that had a chip or something inside that would act like a mini modem so that he could use that to access the web with his new MacBook pro. I am not sure if he explained it right because I was not there, but the people at ATT told him that service should be available any day now.
Anybody know if this is even something that is in the works for iPhone users?
    thanks

you were not there? Oh man, I thought you were the whole time.
Yes I think that is it. I have a usb modem hanging out of a usb port on my MBP and h aid he doesn't need that because ATT told him the chip in the iPhone will act like a modem and he will be able to have internet connection via his iPhone on his new MBP.
It's the same concept as your USB dongle. ATT hasn't released it yet and they haven't announced pricing plans either.
Would you suggest he install this latest download? I heard it was a security patch to deal with some flaws in the google program the iPhone has used so it sounds pretty major. if he does not have his ITunes set-up yet with an account and credit card, do you know if I should check and ,download it and install it before i give it to him. he was concerned about being able to get it and I thought maybe they would download it to all iPhone automatically but that shows you how much I know.
The security update was to plug an SMS vulnerability that was discovered in the last week or so. It has nothing to do with Google. Apple doesn't do automatic installs. It's always up to the user to initiate the process.
He should set up his own iTunes account on his own machine. Once he has an account, he can sync his contact list/calendars/music from his machine to the phone. Prior to any update install, the iPhone will do a backup prior to installation.

  • New iPhones for the Kids

So we got two new iPhone for the kids and sent them money to their iTunes account for buying apps. However they still cant as the phone wants thier account linked to a credit card. If they have money in thier account why is this? Is there anything that can be done other then putting a credit card in thier account? Should it work off the balance of funds in the account?

So they both have 'no payment' accounts and have been iTunes members for a few years. When I want to allow them to buy music I send them gift cards through email. This adds funds to their accounts and allows them to spend. I assumed this would work for iPones apps too. However the apps store does not seem to see the funds in thier iTunes account when trying to buy an app. Each time they try to buy an app it asks for credit card information but does not see the funds in their account already. All other things work fine... such as downloading free apps etc.
So I was wondering is there account settings that need to change or is there other ways of send funds to them for the app store.

  • New Iphone for Christmas present.

Im really wanting to get my boyfriend the new iphone for christmas since he already has a plan with at&t. The only problem is I don't want him to know until christmas and then after christmas we both go in together to get his phone number transferred over to the iphone. My question is, is there anyway to just buy the iphone with out switching the contract over to the new phone or getting a new one? Because right now all I want to do is basically get an empty sell of a phone. lol

Well to get a phone at the price advertised (the subsidized price) you have to 1) be eligible for an upgrade if you already are with AT&T) and 2, agree to two year extension. Thus your boyfriend has to be present to do so as he has to authorize.
Otherwise you have to pay FULL price for a contract free iPhone (a lot more money).
So pretty much need to just print out a nice picture of the iPhone, put it in a card and say you want to buy him one.

  • TS4036 I have been restoring the backup into a new iphone for a week. My pictures do not get restored however. Is there anything I can do?

I have been restoring the backup into a new iphone for a week. My pictures do not get restored however. Is there anything I can do?

Not unless the phone was backed up to the icloud or in iTunes at some point. I know you said it's crushed but can it be connected to a computer? If so you can still back it up in iTunes and then when the new phone comes use iTunes to restore that back up on it.

  • My lock button broke is there anyway i can get a new iphone for free

Is there anyway i can get a new iphone for free my lock button got jammed one day and its annoying dealing with it i haven't had my phone for a year either

Take it in to Apple as only they can decide. If they decide it is a defect covered under the warranty, they will replace it.  If they determine it was caused by something you've done or an accident, then you will have to pay for an out of warranty replacement.  However, Apple will have to make that call, so take it so they can evaluate it.

  • Will apple store transfer my music to new iphone for me

will  the apple store transfer my music to new iphone for me?

    Do this:
Create a separate user account for you. Launch iTunes, then Store>Authorize this Computer. Then:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

So I cracked my back and front screen of my iPhone 4S. I had my iPhone for 9 months. I'm wondering if apple can repair or give me a new iPhone for free. If not how much do I have to pay

Apple does not repair devices, they replace them.
Out of warranty replacement is available, pricing varies by model and country.

  • If I cracked my iphone 4 will apple give me a new one for $200

I dropped my iPhone 4, with a bumper on it, and the front cracked to ****. The phone still works perfectly and everything. I know warranties dont cover those kind of damages and neither does apple care which I have. I have heard I can get a new or refubished one for 200 dollars if I take it to an apple store. This blows but I will pay the 200 if this is true.

  • I just purchased 2 new iPhones for my wife and I and set them up. We want to give the old phones to our kids, with the ability to share all the songs in my iTunes account. How do I want to give new names so our old phones sync with our kids names?

Sorry for the long intro question.  I just bought a new iPhone 5S for me and a new 5C for my wife.
We want to give our kids my old 4S and my wife's old 4.  We backed up our old phones and restored
our info to our new ones, but when we connect our old phones, they still show all our songs and iTunes
settings on them (along with the same names as our new ones).
We want to set up our old iPhones for our kids to be able to have their own names on theirs so that
when we connect to my iTunes computer, it sees each phone accordingly, and has only the songs
that they select (whereas I want to keep ALL my songs in my iTunes account on mine, not just some).
    How do I do this?

    You are most welcome

  • HT201269 I have had my new iPhone for 6 mths and just decided to sync it

I connected it to iTunes and Rather than " set up as new phone" I selected restore from back up of my old phone.  Unfortunately this seems to have wiped all the photos from my new phone. Is there any way to retrieve these photos?

    Nope.
This is designed to be done right away after a purchase of a new iPhone that is replacing another - not weeks or months afterwards.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Had this been done before choosing to transfer the backup for the old iPhone, the photos would not be lost.
