  • New iPhone, new Apple ID. But the built in apps won't update.

I got my first iPhone, when my mom got it for me, she signed in with the family ID when the preloaded apps appeared (like keynote and pages) now these and other apps need updates but I started using my Apple ID when she gave the phone to me. Now these apps need updates, but they can only be updated through my mom's Apple ID. But then I would be locked out of mine on my phone. So I deleted one or two, thinking they came automatically with my phone. When I went back to reload them they cost $9.99 and up! But I had them originally with my phone! is there a way I can get those apps as if I had started this phone with my ID? And does anyone know for sure if it will work?

You never purchased them with your current Apple ID. Their ownership is tied to the other Apple ID. That does not transfer. You will have to re-purchase all purchased apps using your new Apple ID and a new iTunes account.
You can call Apple to see if they will help you out, but not assurances that they will:

  • New iphone & new iTunes wont sync, asks restore phone with no backup option

    Hi all.
I have a brand new Toshiba and Windows 7, with a brand new iphone4 (first time I have had one). I downloaded the latest version of itunes this morning, and went to sync and back-up the two, but dramas started! The device is recognised with my number serial number and offers to upload videos, images wtc, but it wont let me sync or the like.
The error message I get is 'iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone 'iPhone'. Go to the summary tab in iPhone preferences and click restore to restore this iphone to its factory settings.
I dont want to restore as I will lose all data, as it wont allow me to perform a backup. I have been through all the recommendations provided on hte internet this morning, but have had no resolution (turn both devises off, restore iPhone), I just dont want to lose my contacts without being able to back up.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

For managing audio and video contents of the iPod and iPhone you can find some lighter and faster alternatives to iTunes. • New iPhone & New Computer

I have a new computer and a new iPhone4. How do I get my new computer to recognize the data stored in itunes from my old computer.

That's the problem - I don't know how to copy everything from the old computer to the new computer. From iTunes, I tried File > Library > Back Up, but it won't let me download to a thumbdrive. Any suggestions?

  • New iphone, new computer, lost ringtones

I previously had an iphone 4 that lasted me quite a long time, when it shut down unexpectedly and the battery swelled I replaced it with an Iphone 5s. i have everything i have ever purchased as far as songs and shows go. But not one single ringtone I had is on my library and i have not seen many of them available as far as i can see on itunes. They are just gone. i spent money on these and would hate to repurchase them, however some tones just don't show up anywhere. Can i get some help? Please and thank you in advance.

Ringtones (and audiobooks) are a one-time only download from the store (other items are only redownloadable whilst they remain in the store). If you don't have copies of them on your backup of your downloads/library, and if they are still in the store and you haven't moved countries since buying them, then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a redownload : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Syncing music on home network with new iphone & new account.

I am this close from purchasing an iphone from sprint butbefore I shell out the money I want to know if I will be able to still sync anduse music from the shared network (that I use for my ipod) with my phone.
All music on the shared network is on a different account it’sjust that we all pooled our music together on one account since you can sync asmany ipods at you want to the account. Everyone has different computers (on a worelbut we all log in with thesame account/password.    I would like tocreate my own account but still have access to the music.  Is this possible?

With regard to music, your phone will behave as an iPod. Whatever you did with your music and your iPod applies equally to the phone.

  • Any new IPhone announcements today?

Hello there! I got called into work today so I couldn't watch the conference today. I have tried searching everywhere but all I can find is IPad this, IPad that...I think the new announcement has flooded the internet to cover up any new IPhone news.
Anyone that watched the conference, could you tell me what they said about the IPhone? Is there a new IPhone coming this year like the previous three? Updated operating system? etc.?
    Any info out there?
    Thanks!

    Awaiting the iPad forum section also;
has anyone got any details on how the iPad might act more like a computer in allowing editing, saving of MS Office documents? I work with Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and would like to have a gadget such as the iPad that would handle Office.
I own the iPod right now, but no iPhone and would like to have an Apple device that can handle a lot, be sort of a laptop in addition. I don't need the storage, processing of a laptop computer and i like how different this device actually is from a regular computer. If it can handle some basic stuff, if i want to have my resume in Word or edit/ save one of my work requirement documents, it would be a selling point if this can work with all that.

  • My iphone and laptop were stolen!! How do I recover my itunes stuff?

Sorry to bother you guys. A few days ago, my apt was robbed and among the things that were stolen was my iPhone and my laptop!!!
I have renter's insurance thank god and they said they will replace or reimburse me the full cost of anything stolen, so I'm getting a new iPhone and laptop!
My question is, how will I get my apps back onto my new phone. I have 200+ apps (most are free but many were not) and I don't even remember all of them.
Is it a simply a matter of downloading itunes to my desktop, logging in with my user name and password, then connecting my new iPhone to it, with the sim card from att with my phone number on it, and it will work?
Is there any way at all to automatically redownload all the apps I had or do I have to remember them all from memory and redownload them manually one by one?
Are the apps and itunes localized to one specific hardware serial number or something, or will they automatically work on my desktop/new laptop and phone as long as I'm using the same username and password.
    Thank you very much.

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system, as I'm guessing happened in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. If your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of your purchased items, and don't have them on an iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
If you have your tracks on an iPod or have them backed up, post back and someone here can help you get them restored. Otherwise you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.

  • HT4053 can i set up my new iphone 5s using my ipad (because my work laptop wont allow me to installl itunes).?

can i set up my new iphone 5s using my ipad (because my work laptop wont allow me to installl itunes).?

No, but you do not need iTunes to setup a new iPhone 5s. Create an iCloud backup for anything you want to transfer to the new iPhone.

  • Whenever I try to sync my 3gs to my laptop itunes only gives me two options: set up as new iphone or restore to a backup.  I already mistakenly restored the phone to a previous back up and the options are still the same.  I am using itunes 10.4.1.10.

Back in March my PC crashed while updating my Iphone 3Gs.  Both froze and were rendered unusable.  The Iphone had to be restored to factory settings in order to be used.  The PC required more work and was delayed by warranty issues.  In the meantime I bought a laptop and installed the newest version of Itunes.  Itunes recognizes my phone but only comes up as "Set up your Iphone"  with two subsequent options: set up as new iphone or restore from back up.  I have mistakenly chosen the option to restore it back to July 2, 2011 when I last synced.  No big deal, but it will not let me go beyond that screen and I cannot transfer my recovered apps or anything else.  Any help on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

  • My laptop with my iTunes on it has died. I have iCloud and an iPad so can I use that instead? Do I simply log in with my apple id? Also I have a new iPhone how do I sync that up? Will my old iPhone be saved on iCloud? Thanks

My laptop is broken, hard disk failure. It's gone to the hospital but it will require a new hard disk.  I have an iPod. I also have iCloud which everything ( I think) has been backed up to.  I have an new iPhone and need to sync it up. Can I sync it to my iPad? So I can retrieve the back up?  Scratching my head a bit!

  • I recently updated my new iPhone by plugging it in to my laptop. However, it erased all of the texts, contacts and pictures associated with my phone prior to the update. How do I get that information back?

I owned an iPhone 4s a year ago before I unfortunately lost it. I have since then bought the iPhone 5 but had not plugged it in to my computer yet to download any music. I plugged in my iPhone today to my laptop and my iTunes store stated that it registered that it was a new iPhone and asked if I wanted to restore or update my new iPhone with the information that was backed up on my old one. I chose yes, that I did want to restore the old information in to my new iPhone. However, now that I did that, my new iPhone does not have any of the contacts, texts or pictures that I had already on my new iPhone.
I desperately want my information back that was lost on my new iPhone when I updated the phone. Is there any way to get those pictures and information back? I logged in to my iCloud account and it still did not help get my pictures, contacts or texts back.

No such thing has occurred.  iPhones do not backup to one another.
It is not possible to backup a different iPhone from the one being updated.
If the iPhone was restored with a backup from a different device, restore it again from the correct backup.

Pay attention when restoring the iPhone and select the correct backup to restore from.

  • Need to sync iPhone 4 to new laptop; don't want to setup as a new iPhone, want to keep current settings

My previous Dell laptop is crashing and I have purchased a new HP g4 laptop.
I own a 160GB iPod, iPhone 4, and 32gb iPad. I am less concerned about the iPod because that is just my music.
    My problem is:
How can I sync my iPhone 4 & 1st gen iPad to my new laptop without having to set it up as a new iPhone/iPad? I want to keep all my current settings as well as my groups of apps.
    Any advice?
When I setup iTunes on the new computer, I had backed up all the music and iTunes folder to my external hard drive them copied from there to the new laptop. This process did not copy over my playlists (like I was told it would). iTunes is basically setup new and does not recognize that it is just on a different computer.
I set my iPod to sync and it said "was synced with other library...erase & sync?" I said yes, because it's just music. I imported each playlist 1 by 1.
Any help is appreciated; I really do not want to have to re-setup both iPhone & iPad.
    Thanks you,
    lavoie25

Thank you for the advice. I had done the backup of the whole library folder to iTunes, but I did not know I had to hold SHIFT down when opening it. I had already synced the iPod when I posted the previous message.
I ended up trying a few steps that seemed to work out in my favor.
When the iPad & iPhone were connected to iTunes, I first right clicked and chose to transfer purchases from the device to iTunes (I was not prompted by the "already associated with a library" message). Once that finished, I right clicked on the device again and chose to Back Up the device (again, not promted). Once the back up was complete, I went to each device and rechose my music, apps, movies, tv shows, books, photos and then clicked to sync. I was prompted here that the device would be erased first. I was then prompted asking if I wanted to Merge Information - I chose to merge and the sync continued.
Once the siny was finished it was as if I had finished a sync with my old laptop; all my settings and everything were in place - did not have to re-enter passwords in apps or set up mail settings again.
This worked on both my iPad and my iPhone.
