New iPhone- old Blackberry contacts

I had to get a new iPhone after I damaged my old one.  It turns out that my old iPhone had never backed up to my Mac since I've had it.  I had the Apple tech move my old Blackberry contacts to my new iPhone.  Now I want the settings from my old iPhone to go onto my new iPhone, and I want my contacts already on the new iPhone to be backed up on my Mac.  Am I restoring? Am I syncing? Am I merging? It is unclear what will end up where...  I've gone through the tutorials but they all assume a basic level of knowledge with the itunes thing (my kids set up my first one for me and you can tell I never figured it out for myself).

Sync the contacts on your Blackberry to something on your computer (e.g. Outlook, Address Book) using Blackberry Desktop Manager,  the free software that Blackberry provides. Then, sync the contacts to your phone using iTunes.
Or take both devices to your carrier and ask nicely if they can transfer them.

What photos are you referring to? Are these photos that are in the Camera Roll and Photo Stream albums on the device you backed up, or are they in different albums? Are you signed onto the new phone with the same iCloud ID? Are the Photo Stream photos ones that have been taken in the past 30 days?
When you set up the new phone did you set it up using that backup?

  • New iPhone / Old Tiger MacBook that can't upgrade to new iTunes - will iCloud save me?

    Hi guys,
Thanks in advance for your advice.  I have a newer iPhone (jailbroken and unlocked if that matters) and an older MacBook 10.4.11 on Tiger.  I tried to link up my new phone with iTunes but got the error that I must have the newer iTunes which is not available for Tiger.  I dutifully tried to upload to Leopard but my computer just stalls at the reboot.   I have made 10g of space on it but it just spins and spins.  It could be my disk drive or maybe more space is needed?   I have two levels of questions
    1.   Will the new iCloud service in the Fall bypass this problem anyway?   I could if needed upload things to my work newer at-work computer if it somehow can upload my iphone content from the old phone and then wait it out until September.
    2.  Thoughts on why the upgrade won't take for my Tiger MacBook?
    Best,
    Summer

You mentioned you had a newer 'at work' computer?
You could sync your old phone to that one and than sync your new phone using the same iTunes account and password.
Your photos, as you probably know, are synced from a photo folder on your computer. If you have this folder shared or on an external drive you could plug that drive into the 'work' computer and sync from that.
An easier method may be for you to back-up your old iPhone on the 'work computer' and then restore the new iPhone from that back-up on the 'work computer'. This would sync your photos, iCal, contacts, etc.

  • How do I set up a new iphone so that contacts, calanders, and mail do not sync to the other phones in my houshold?

I just purchased a new iPhone 4S for my 11 year old daughter. After setting it up today, and entering in our apple ID, all of my contacts appeared in her contact list, same with emails and messages. How do I set it up so that all my garbage isn't in her phone? Thanks

Don't let her use your iCloud account on her iPhone.
On her iPhone, go to Settings > iCloud and select Delete Account at the bottom.
She can create her own email account if she has one, or you can create an iCloud account for her to be used on her iPhone for email account access, syncing contacts, calendar events, and notes.
You also need to sign out of the Apple ID for iMessage on her iPhone as well and she needs to activate iMessage on her iPhone with her own Apple ID.

  • New Iphone / Old Imac

Please Help! I just bought an IP4 which is my third iPhone.
I have a vintage Imac running 10.4.11 which runs perfectly and does what we've always needed it to do. We also have a house full of PC's. I have always used our Imac to activate and sync my previous IP's.
When my new IP4 arrived the first thing I did was download the latest Itunes. Then I synced and updated my old IP3G. When I then plugged in my IP4, I get the message that the IP4 isn't supported by my mac OS (which worked fine for my other IP's).
So then I went to my newest PC and downloaded Itunes. I first plugged in my 3G but it wouldn't transfer any data to put on the new IP4.
What can I do to get my data off my 3g and onto my new IP4 and activate it without having to buy a whole new Mac?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Discussion woxofswa,
You will not be able to do it with your Mac as you have found out.
    Questions are:
    1) What system are you going to end up syncing your new iPhone4 to in the future, if any.
    2) What data are you looking to move?
Contacts and Calendar data is moved to the iPhone from the Address Book and Calendar.app on MacOS, Outlook on Windows. So your best approach would to figure out where you plan on syncing the new iPhone and move your old phone their first, or move the data using MobileMe to the new machine. (I have not done the later myself to a Windows machine)
    System Requirements are:
    Mac system requirements:
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 9.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
    Windows system requirements:
    PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 9.2 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access

  • New Iphone 3 downloading contact from a previous Iphone

I just took delivery of a new Iphone 3.  I have an older Iphone with a contact list that I use with names and numbers that are not the same as the address book in my macbook.  When I synchrornized the new phone with the macbook it downloaded the macbook address book.  I don´t want this list of contacts.  I need the old Iphone contact list.
Question:  1. how do I erase all of the contact in the new Iphone?
                   2. Once that is done, how do I download the contacts from the older Iphone.
    Thanks Paulfromqueretaro concerned.

  • Help, New iphone. Lost contacts!

Hi I would really appriciate some help. My Iphone 4 was broken, so before I took it to the apple store to get a new one I backed up my data and updates my phone on my girlfriends macbook pro. She also has an Iphone 4, which she regualarly updates. When I went to the apple store they replaced my Iphone 4. so when I went to set it up on my girlfriends macbook pro it was only allowing her to set the iphone up to restore from her iphone, and not my own. so we decided to set it up as a new phone instead. but now this means I have lost all my contacts, photos etc. Nothing was really important apart from my contacts. Does any1 know a way I can get them back. My girlfriend has already searched alot of forum sites to check where the back up is stored and my original back up from my first iphone is no where to be seen. Please Help!

Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. This can be with the Address Book on your Mac and is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Were you syncing contacts with the Address Book on your Mac with your old iPhone and if not, why not?
You can't selectively choose which data included with your iPhone's backup is transferred to a new iPhone, or restored on your iPhone when restoring the iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup. It is all or none.
If all contact info that was available on your old iPhone was not included with the iPhone's backup that was transferred to your new iPhone and you weren't syncing contacts with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process, the contacts may be lost.
If your old iPhone is still available along with the contact info, sync your old iPhone with the Address Book on your Mac, which is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences. Follow this by selecting the same under the Info tab for your new iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.

  • New Iphone/old iphone /itunes(2 computers)

    Hi
I am having a issue with itunes
I just set up a new laptop, but still have old one with itunes on it(toshiba) I had an iphone 4 which i used with the toshiba to add music to it.
I bought a new iphone 5c yesterday and set it up using the old the  laptops itunes -toshiba- using the restore setting, so it copied everything (but music for some reason) to my new phone) I think the reason it didnt copy music is becacuse i remeoved all my music , although not off itunes, from my music libary eg computer> user>music folder.
I am going to sell the iphone 4
I have just set up my new laptop(hp), and as i couldnt get music through the old itunes on the tosbia, i downloaded itunes on to the new hp, plugged in the iphone 4, copied its playlist , removed the iphone 4, plugged in iphone 5c and added the playlist on to it.
When i was doing this, i cant remember at what point, on the new laptop, i got a message syaing all my stuff will be erased if synced- so i hit exit. All the data/contacts/music is still on the iphone 5c-- it wasnt erased.
    My questions
    - I no longer want to use the toshiba- should i de-authorise it/ then delete itunes? would this then make my new hp the main one and not delete anything?
    - I have enabled home sharing- should this be removed?
-I am in the proccess of waitng for the old number on the iphone 4 to chnage to the iphone 5c(will be done tuesday) . After thats done, I want to erase everything off the iphone 4- how do i take it out of either itunes?
-Once the iphon 4 is out of the way, and hopefully the toshiba itunes gone -should it be ok?
    - How do i then get it to back up the iphone 5c assumeing everything else is ok?
    - Both the itunes on the accounts are diffrent, eg one has playlists ones dosent,  I have just seen that a nano i had years ago is still regersted to the toshiba- i dont have it anymore, so will i need to remove that as well? Its not registering the iphone 5c on this account(eg the email account i am using now)
I just want one account, that will work with one device-iphone 5c- i want to remove the nano, and remove the iphone 4(either before or after resell)
Sorry this if this is a bit of a mess
    Rachael

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The 5 limit is for computer authorisations, there is a limit of 10 for associated devices, but sure it can be removed, you can do this in your account settings in iTunes on a computer.

  • New iphone old simcard

Hello - My iPhone had to be replaced by Apple due to malfunction. I am hoping to be able to retrieve all contacts/photos/sms etc.
I have placed old SIM card in new iPhone but it is just wanting me to start from scratch by connecting to iTunes etc.
Can anyone please advise me what to do.
    Many thanks...

The SIM card does not store any data. When you sync to iTunes, iTunes does a backup of your phone. To get that back up on your new phone, you will need to do a Restore. During the Restore, you will be prompted to restore from backup.

  • New iPhone 5 syncs contacts to Microsoft Exchange over the air?

Just got a new iPhone 5. It's not syncing my contacts. I've tried everything I can find here. However, there's this one little difference. In iTunes, I'm being told that my contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air. ***? I don't have Microsoft anything on my comptuer!
This is a new iPhone 5. I've imported all my contacts from my previous phone which has never been synced with anything. (Syncing didn't exist when I bought the phone.) I've switched all of the contanct information on, and ... nothing. I've tried syncing via iTunes. I've tried sycning via iCloud.
Any new additions I make will sync via icloud (or iTunes), but none of the old contact information will sync to my comptuer. I know it has something to do with the "syncing with Micorsoft Exchange" message, but I have no idea how or why it defaulted to that setting. How do I change it? How do I get my contacts to sync from my phone to my computer?
    Thanks.

    randers4,
Thank you for your reply. Strangely, the offending email account was the account set up at the store (not Apple store) for an iTunes account. I have no idea why they would have turned on the exchange sync in the fisrt place.
I now know how to turn off the exchange sync. However, I'm not given the option of keeping the contacts on my iPhone if I switch it off. It will delete all of my contacts. Is there a way to avoid this? I'm sure I read something in the discussions here, can you point me back in the right direction? The same thing is going to happen wiith my emails. Unfortunately, I have dozens of emails already...
    Again, thanks for your help.

  • New iPhone, error message contact iTunes support for further assistance

New iPhone today, get it home and can't do a thing. Everytime I go to iTunes/app store it prompts me for I D and password then tells me to review acct info on iTunes and when I do it gives me a red message that says contact iTunes for further assistance. Going on 9 hours and I am going crazy!!

I have did that 9 hours ago. I haven't received an e-mail back yet. I contacted Verizon, they connected me to Apple and Apple couldn't help because it was an error with iTunes. Apparently iTunes customer assistance does not physically talk to anyone but only replies to emails within 48 hours. Frustrating, but thank you.

  • New PC -- Old Blackberry -- Outlook -- How?

I've got a new PC, moved all my old Outlook data to it.  Installed Blackberry Desktop.  I want to synch it, but I'd like it to be able to figure out that all those Outlook items are the same as they always were.  When I try to synch it seems to want to add hundreds of items to Outlook -- which would be bad, because the Outlook items have properties (labels, etc) not supported on the Blackberry, and I don't have the hours I'd need to delete all the duplicates.  How can I do this synch so I don't get double-portions of calendar and contact and tasks and all, one place or the other?
    Thanks!
    Sheldon

Hoping that not too much changed since your last sync (with your old computer): update Outlook with any changes from your BlackBerry, then do a one-way sync from Outlook to your BlackBerry.
Only other possibility I can think of is to export both to an ASCII file, and use some sort of diff/merge tool. Import the resulting file to both.
    Good luck.

  • New iphone 4 outlook contact updates not syncing to phone since i downloaded icloud

Just purchased my first iphone after only using Androids or Blackberry, from Verizon.  At the store they helped me set up itunes on my laptop to sync my Outlook Contacts and Calendar to the phone.
It seemed to be working fine until I was offered the opportunity to download iCloud. Now the calendar entries on my computer still transfer to the phone but the contacts are not transferring. When I went back to Verizon to ask...they suddenly have amnesia and told me to contact Apple.
In settings under iCloud I have Mail, Contacts, Calendars all set to "On". I can't see anything else that should be on.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem with one of my apps. I'm just going to wait it out and I feel fairly confident that this issue will clear itself up in time on its own. If not, I'm just going to delete the app...the app is I Say Free so no big whoop.

  • Why did my new iphone change my contacts area code?

I just bought the iphone 5s.  And when I switched over my contacts info, the numbers appear instead of names when I am trying to text!! Very annoying!!
The actual names still pop up if I compose a text, but all the old ones are just phone numbers.
    help!

Did you switch from a droid to an iphone and have the contacts transferred by your carrier? Could have been an issue in the way they transferred the contacts.

  • New iphone, old Itunes

I broke my old Iphone. Lucky for me my wife just upgraded to the 3G. We still have her old iphone that I want to put on my account. Im wondering how to do that without my contacts and music getting deleted from my Itunes?

Syncing with iphone does not erase your computer.
Contacts are not stored in itunes, they are in your computers contact program.
