New iPhone. Should I sync?

So I had my genius appointment tonight and they replaced my phone(*running 3.0.1*) after running a diagnostics. How should I go about syncing it to my mac? If I setup as new phone, and I have already downloaded 3.1 onto my mac through, will it automatically update my phone to 3.1 when I sync??

You will probably be prompted that there is a firmware update available with the option to install the firmware update, or not. Installing a firmware update is not required unless you have some 3rd party apps that have been updated to the current version that require firmware update 3.1.

Is there any way to get my reminders (from the new iPhone app) to sync with something on my laptop (Mail, iCal, some other desktop app)?

Yes, if you have iCloud set up on your phone and computer, then reminders will be synced through iCal.

  • I got a new iphone- went to sync with itunes just to get music and it restored my phone to my old phone's settings. Lost everything I put on it this weekend (including ALL my pics). Is there any way to unsync it so I can get all of that back?

I got a new iphone- went to sync with itunes just to get music and it restored my phone to my old phone's settings. lost everything including ALL of my pictures. Is there any way to unsync my phone so I can get everything back?!!! please say yes!!!!

In short. No, you cannot unsync.  If you had a back up from your old iPhone you cand restore from a back up.
In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Devices > and select the latest back up.
Before you synced your phone did you have it set up with the PhotoStream or iCloud? The pictures would be saved there.  Or if you had them sync to a file on your computer.

  • My iphone was hit by a car, however the back is totally intact as well as the sim card. Is there a way for me to back up my phone to my computer/icloud, so when I get my new iPhone, I can sync all of my old data to it?

Need help with my broken iPhone4s. It was hit by a car, and I need to know how to back up my data to my computer/iCloud so when I get my new iPhone I can sync it to there and still have all my old data, such as contacts, photos, apps, etc.

If you had iCloud backup turned on, and it made a backup - yes.  If you didn't have iCloud backup turned on - but were using iCloud for Contacts, calendars, etc.  You will get the contacts and calendars, etc back.
Purchases made with your appleID can be redownloaded as long as they are still available in the iTunes store.
If you connected your phone to a computer with iTunes, there may be a backup on there as well.

  • Bought a new iPhone 6 and synced from iTunes but vibration doesn't work.

Bought a new iPhone 6 and synced from iTunes but vibration doesn't work. I did the reset option using side and home buttons but in vain. Please don't tell me to set up a new device coz its gonna be a hassle restoring apps, emails, contacs...etc.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • I started using my new iphone 5c before syncing to iCloud and have lost all my messages. Can I get them back? Should I have registered the phone as 'new iphone'?

i got my new iphone a week ago. i started using it straight away, before i knew about icloud and that i could sync all my contacts, etc to the new phone. i then turned on icloud for contacts - this worked fine. today i tried putting my music onto my phone. i clicked 'recognise a B's iphone' in itunes - this has synced music and apps. the only problem is that i have lost all my text messages from the last week. the phone is showing old messages from december 2012 only! can i delete these and get my recent messages back??
    thanks.
    balerina.

You did more than sync the new iPhone with iTunes since syncing with iTunes does not include text messages.
The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or set up the device as a new iPhone.
The former replaces all data on the iPhone that is included with the selected backup for the other iPhone or iOS device. The latter does not.
If a backup for your new iPhone was not created with iCloud or if created and has been updated since the backup was transferred from the other iPhone or iOS device, the previous data on the new iPhone is gone.

  • New iphone 4 and sync to itunes on a Mac

    Hi all,
So, I bought a new iphone 4 today.  I plugged it into my Mac to sync with itunes, and a error message popped up saying that this iphone couldn't be used on this itunes (I had 9.2 I think) and I needed to download the latest version.  I downloaded the latest version, but it said that I needed Mac os x 10.5 to run it - I only have 10.4.1.  I can't seem to download 10.5........
    How do I fix this?!
Plus, in trying to fix this, I have in my stupidity and following instructions from Apple, tried reinstalling Itunes, which has resulted in my trashing my itunes.....along with everything in my itunes - music, apps, everything!  Aaahhhhh
Is there anyway to get it all back?  Or am I doomed?  And I have to start from scratch??????
    Help!

You should update to at least 10.4.11.
Which computer do you have? You should be able to get at least 10.5
Reinstalling iTunes will not mess up your /Music/iTunes/ folder, which is your iTunes library.
What exactly is wrong? It's not showing up in iTunes or it is gone from the computer?

  • Just got a new iphone and am syncing it with itunes, but it will not transfer my new music or voice memos.  Help?

I just got a new iphone 3GS and was trying to sync it with my itunes information from my old phone.  However, I keep getting multiple error messages and after the sync is complete, I find that everything has transferred except my purchased itunes music and voice memos (I record my class lectures).  I am not sure what I can do to fix this.  Any ideas?

    The error messages are:
-"Attempting to copy to the disk 'My Iphone' failed.  An unknown error occured (-69)."
-"The iphone 'My Iphone' cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in itunes library."
-"The iphone 'My Iphone' cannot be synced.  An unknown error occured (13010)."

  • New iPhone no longer syncs with iTunes or charges via MacBook

    Hi,
seen that there are quite a few varied posts concerning iPhones that aren't syncing but none that have the exact problem that I've currently got, which is:
I have a week old iPhone 3GS, I have connected it to my mac a couple of times and it worked and charged fine via the usb cable, however it is now not doing anything when attached, if the handset is turned of it automatically turns on but doesn't show that it is charging or syncing.
I have followed all of the trouble shooting advice via mac support but still no joy, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I was hoping that my new toy was going to be a little more user friendly than this, I'm an experienced Mac user and am a little dismayed at problems so early into the honeymoon period with my shiny new iPhone.
    Thanks

Lovely, working, charging and syncing again, I'm in your debt, thank you.
Just out of interest, I have read that this can be caused by syncing certain podcasts but I've only put a couple of dozen tunes that I already had in my iTunes library onto the phone, any ideas as to why the issue may have happened?
    Thanks again.

  • New iPhone 5s only syncs cloud music

I bought my wife a new iphone 5s to upgrade from her 4s.  The 4s was backed up to the iCloud and we restore it on to the new iPhone 5s - all seemed to work fine except when we attempt to sync the music on her laptop that was not purchased via iCloud, it refuses to sync.  IT looks like it is going to sync, but then completes with no error message.  What can we do to ensure her music collection on her laptop will sync to her new phone without losing any data?
    Thanks
    Wayne

If you are using an LTE signal, the indicator bars will always have a different signal strength than 4G oe 3G.
I would get five bars using T-Mobiles 4G on my iPhone 4S and I get 3-4 bars using LTE on T-Mobile. It's normal if this is what you are talking about.

  • ITunes removes new iPhone apps every sync

I occasionally install a few apps directly from the iPhone's app store while I'm out traveling with my iPhone.
When I get back to my Macbook laptop and sync, though, iTunes removes every single app I added.
Fo example, I added AmericanExpress and WalMart on my iPhone last night. When I get back to my laptop and sync this morning, AmericanExpress and WalMart are removed form my iPhone! The apps are in iTunes, and I can re-sync them back to the iPhone, but it's very frustrating to have to take a snapshot of my iPhone every single time before I sync so I can see what apps are removed.
I have SYNC APPS checked and AUTOMATICALLY SYNC NEW APPS in iTunes.
I erased my iPhone and started from scratch (no RESTORE) last week and the same thing still happens.
Is the iTunes app corrupt? Is there a preference I can remove to see if iTunes is the problem?

UPDATE : After trying the user ID login/logout on the iPhone and iTunes, I went to UTILITIES > GENERAL > RESET > RESET ALL SETTINGS on the iPhone.
After the iPhone restarted, I got the animated new iPhone intro and selected "set up as new phone". After pressing NEXT, I was brought back to the iPhone as it was before the RESET. (Nothing was erased, despite the "set up as new iphone" selection.) The wallpapers had changed, and I had to re-sign in to GameCenter and the local WiFi on startup, but all the apps were still there.
I downloaded a free app on the iPhone directly again. (Cut The Rope Holiday GIft). I plugged the iPhone in to the MacBook, went to iTunes, and pressed SYNC.
Cut The Rope Holiday GIft was removed from the iPhone.

  • Transferring music from old iphone to new iphone without primary synced laptop

i have an iphone 5 that was synced to a laptop i no longer have, i now have a new iphone is there any way to get my music from my first phone to a new laptop to then put on my new phone? please help i have all the apps and photos and contacts transferred but i cant get my music back

Try a synch with iTunes on your computer again.  This time, while the iPhone 5 is plugged in, click on its icon on the left, then the "Music" tab on the right.  Choose the correct music sync option (to sync music and playlists).  Then clock "Apply" in the lower right.
