New iphone software

I linked my 3GS up to a friend's Mac running Snow Leopard in order to download new software for my iphone - 4.2.1 . The syncing was OK, but when I disconnected I found that itunes didn't respond and told me I had no content. But on checking - syncing with my friend's Mac once more, the songs were all there. I then patched my iphone into my own desktop running Tiger (10.4.11) and itunes refused to boot up, telling me to download the latest version which I did, but then it told me that my O.S needed upgrading!!! Honestly - they screw you all ways don't they! So what's the answer unless I do pay for a new OS? Unless I fork out for a new O.S. could I reset and erase all and would that clear the problem???

iOS 4.2 requires iTunes 10.1, and that requires Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6. You will not be able to sync your iPhone to your computer unless you upgrade your OS and then iTunes. Otherwise, your only possibility is to use your friend's system to try and downgrade your iOS back to an earlier version, and that's not supported by Apple and is quite chancy. If you want to try it, though, if you search the forums or the web for "downgrade"(or "downgrade iPhone if you do a web search), you should find instructions.
Regards.

  • I was prompted to download on my iPhone the new iPhone software ap. Upon doing so, my playlists came off my iPhone. They are still listed in my iTunes, but I cannot figure out how to get them from my iTunes to my IPhone. When I switch to synch by playlis.

How do I get my 300 playlists back on my IPhone after installing new IPhone software? The playlists still show in my ITunes on my computer but not in my IPhone. When I switch to synch by playlists and begin checking off the lists, the memory bar fills up. These lists are suppose to be in the ICloud and not go against my memory . I had access with my playlists to more than 18,000 somgs on my IPhone until this new Apple IPhone software update came alg. What do I do?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • When updating new iPhone software I have to use a different computer.

When trying to update new iPhone software I have to use my MacBook instead of my iMac. If I use the iMac I can download the software with no problem, but when updating it gets to the point where it's almost done then it just stops. When I use the MacBook I can complete the whole process no problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Any reason why you have not updated to 10.6.4? On your iMac, navigate to ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates and delete any & all .ipsw files you find. There should only be one, but delete all that are listed. You will most likely have to first turn on show all hidden files & folders to see them. Once done, run software update. Make sure iTunes is up to date. Once done, launch disk utility from your utilities folder, select your hard drive, select "Repair Permissions". When finished, re-boot your computer. See if you can update now. There should be NO firewalls or anti-virus running...none.

The new iPhone software don't connect the all facebook friend with contact

When you go to Settings > WiFi, does it show that you are connected to your WiFi network? (If connected, a check mark will appear next to your network name.)
Where does the "loading" statement appear?  How do you just get loading if you are connected to the Internet via cellular data network?
Have you tried any other application that uses the Internet like Yelp or a bank app? What happens there?
I wouldn't try the 5.01 update until you solve the connectivity problem! It's a very large update.
You cannot compare yours to your sister's. Just deal with yours.
Observations that may or may not help in your case:
    1) Sometimes WiFi doesn't work well even if connected if the cell signal is very weak or "o" (vs 3G) shows.
    2) Sometimes connection via cellular does not work if connected to WiFi but WiFi signal is very weak.

  • Itunes says that i need 10.5 to get the new iphone software, but i already have 10.5 itunes

itunes says that i need itunes 10.5 to get the new iphone software, but i already have 10.5 itunes.  i cant seem to figure out how to get the new iphone software cause it keeps telling me to download updates, and then it does and update search and says im all updated.

I had a similar issue.  I had to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it.  Assuming PC, you have to go to the control panel and use the uninstall applications tool.  Then install it again.  Worked for me.

  • My new iphone software is not compatible with itunes

    Hi,
I recenty up downloaded the new software on my iphone and Ipad. Now I cannot plug into itunes on my Mac. It said the software is not compatible. I have tried to udgrade my itunes and download the lastes version, but apparently my Mac (brought in 2007) is not compatible with the new itunes. Im really not happy about the situation as you will appreciate as now I cannot update music, photo's etc.
Can someone please help? what can I do? I dont think its fair that I should have to spend money on upgrading anything just because I upgraded to the new iphone software.
    Thanks,
    Amanda

  • I upgraded to Itunes 10.5 and attempted to download new Iphone software, now my computer is extremely laggy and it takes Itunes about 6 minutes to open

I am pretty sure my computor didnt begin lagging until I tried upgrading my Iphone software, it was stuck on "Backing up Iphone" for about an hour, an error occured and I had to reset my computer, all aspects of my computor are extremly slow

Had the same thing happen to me when I tried syncing my iPhone this a.m. - talked to Apple 7 hours ago and evidently there's an "issue" with the iTunes server. The Apple adviser told me to try syncing in an hour. Well, rather than do that, I've continued to check Twitter, searching on "itunes sync" or "itunes server" - seems the problem's still going on.
I'm going to wait it out til tomorrow. Or whenever.
The REASON I was synching is that ever since the iOS 5 "upgrade" photos that were in albums synced from iPhoto had disappeared. Not all the photos, just all the photos in some albums. Weird.
Too many bugs in iOS 5 (syncing, Bluetooth connectivity, etc.). They should have waited til it was right before releasing it.

  • I can't get the new iPhone software to install

I have iTunes 8.2.1.6 I am trying to update my iPhone to software version 3.0.1
I have never been asked where I want to download this to. And iTunes happily fills up my OS disk partition and fails #*?&!!!! :-@
Why on earth would I ever want my iPhone software in my PC operating system partition?!?
How do I get it to use my data disk partition instead? Also, how much disk space do I need? Apple refuse to tell me, and they won't help me get the update to work. I may have to ask for my money back....

I realised the location was C:\Documents and Settings\...\iPhone Software Updates
The update I have downloaded (version 3.0.1) is just under 236MB (or 230MiB). I still have 216MiB left on my C: drive after downloading the file, but when I try to install it, it runs out of space.
I have moved all the "temp" directories to a different disk partition, and I'm only installing software to this data partition now. Occasionally I have to uninstall and re-install software to maintain this. I also keep having to move stuff (like these update files) out of "Documents and Settings". Sadly I failed to keep my existing user accounts and their settings when I moved this folder to a different partition, so I had to put it back
What I was asking is how do I change the folder used for either the download or the extracted files? And if this, as I suspect, is not possible, how much free space to I need in my Windows partition?!?

  • New iphone software, no docking compatibility

I have a few ipod docks in the apartment I am renting. with the old iphone operating system, I was able to dock my iphone and play music. Now with the new software, my iphone will not even recognize that it is plugged into something. Is there a fix for this???
    Thanks

    LOL....welcome to the club.
Same problem here..Im sure you will find in coming days that this is not your only problem.
My i_phone was working fine before OS4 (USB in car worked fine / Blu-Ray player accepted my I-phone to play songs / heck the phone even allowed me to accept phone calls!!!!
    NOW HOWEVER:-
USB in car function does not work properly.
Blu-Ray player no longer recognises my I-Phone AT ALL.
When im in the car and the phone rings..the phone LOCKS UP and disconnects!!!!
In other words my I-Phone is now an I-Brick!!

  • Problems synching itunes 9.0.1 with the new iphone software update.

I am running a MacBook pro with OS 10.5.8.
I have upgraded to itunes 9 and downloaded the new software for the iphone 3.1.2.
Now I cannot sync my iphone OR install the new software.
Every-time I try to do this itunes tells me that my iphone "disconnected during the install / sync".
This is nonsense of course! Any clues as to what is broken gratefully received.
PS I looked up the more information page that apple suggests. However this advice seems to be on the level of the "IT crowd". IE turn your computer off and on again; and update your software to the latest version.

Ok, lets try some simple stuff first:
Go to Applications > iSync > Preferences > Reset Sync History
Let me know if that helps, also make sure that permit syncing on this computer is checked.

  • Pairing problems since new iPhone software download

Downloaded the new software onto my iPhone yesterday, but in order for the software to work correctly it had to restore everything on my phone to its original factory settings. Since then, I've been unable to pair my Bluetooth headset with the iPhone. I have a Bang & Olufsen headset. I've tried every trick in the book, but the iPhone will not "discover" my headset. Suggestions from any one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks/scott

Yes! Finally figured out the concept of pushing in my headset switch and holding it down until the light flashed red and then green. Once that happened I was able to pair the head set with the iPhone. Thanks for your response.

  • Trouble downloading the new iPhone software (4.2.8.)

I have an iPhone 4, and every time I try to download the new software it takes about 25 minutes, then as soon as it's done downloading a window pops up saying "Error, network connection has timed out"
I'm not quite sure what that means...am I doing something wrong?
Also my sound for my phone only comes out of the right speaker at the bottom. Is that normal?

Disable the security software and try again, Kaspersky's has been really annoying with this along with a couple others.

  • My new iPhone software is "too old" to backup from iTunes

Hi.  I recently purchased an iPhone 5.  I backed up my iPhone 4 on iTunes, then plugged in my iPhone 5 to restore from the backup.  I got an error message saying the software on the iphone is "too old".  It said I have to install the iphone as a new device and install the latest version of the software.  That's fine, but how do I then use the backup from my iPhone 4, because iTunes thinks the iPhone 5 is a new device and automatically backs it up every time I plug it it.  I'm not very tech savvy so I'm hoping there's an easy solution to this problem!
    I need help

    hey sharis28,
for each iphone or other ios device is a back up created in itunes.
you can connect your iphone 5 to your wi-fi router (settings > wi-fi), than you can update ios software in your settings (settings > general > software update).
or you can restore your device via itunes than is the newest ios software installed.
