New iPhone sync painfully slow

I have searched the forums but there does not seem to be a fix for the slow sync issue. I am going to try the airplane mode later and see if that helps. I connected my new iPhone yesterday, completed the set-up and then the sync began. And it continued...
This morning after at least 8 hours of sync time there were only about 300 songs copied over. Is this typical for the first sync? I canceled the sync and will try again. Any other success stories?
Thanks,
Jim

I'm not certain that the iPhone "backup" copies songs/podcasts/etc. (mine doesn't), but I can confirm that there is an issue with backups taking several hours (mine does/did). Since it doesn't seem to be viewed as a problem by Apple, my "fix" was to add some code to the iTunes files to SKIP the backup when copying apps, etc. I recommend doing one (initial) backup, and then turning it "off" or you'll never be able to sync apps, photos, etc. Check the following link for Windows users: http://iphonefreakz.com/2008/07/27/windows-users-disable-itunes-backup-for-faste r-sync/

  • IPod syncs fine, new iPhone syncs but only loads apps/no iTunes music?

My iPod syncs fine but when I connect my new iPhone, it doesn't upload any of the music in my iTunes library. It only loaded the one app I had in the apps section. Ipod loads music library fine. Just don't know why iPhone says sync is complete but doesn't upload any music?
    Help please.

Resolved by clearing videos from sync - apparently too large without notification of attempted sync.

  • HT4236 contacts, photos lost when new iphone syncing with Macpro

Synced my new iphone with itunes, lost all my contacts and photos, etc. iphone was restored to include all my stuff from my previous iphone, how do i fix this to get back all my new contacts and photos, etc

Ask whoever transferred them to begin with. We have no idea what kind of phone you had or where those contacts came from.
Your mistake was in trusting some dweeb at a phone shop to transfer your contacts without understanding what would happen to then if you restored, then, of course, in restoring the phone without a backup of the information that was in it.
Restoring the backup of your old iPhone from a few years ago completely overwrote the data that was in the phone.

  • New iphone, synced with Outlook, but messages remain 'unread'.

I just moved to a new iphone 3gs and even though I didn't' change anything on my computer my iphone email remains marked 'unread' with the little blue dot and notification numbers.
I see people have this problem a lot, but previously when I opened outlook and just downloaded email the blue dots would disappear on the iphone. I could almost see it happen live if I updated the iphone email. I didn't even have to read the email on my computer, it just automatically recognized it was downloaded by outlook and therefore removed the blue dot and notification.
I should note that in my outlook settings I have never had it set to remove email from server right away (I have always left my email on the server for a week to get email on the road and as a backup for HD failure).
So for whatever reason when I set up the new iphone email (had to do it manually) this time it does not know I've downloaded the email to Outlook and does not automatically take the blue dot away. I'm not sure how it did it before but I would like to have it working again.
    Any thoughts?

My iPhone email works with my Gmail account.
Since going to OS 3.0, I've found that the unread indicator on the mail icon is wrong if I delete new messages without reading them first.
I now seem to be stuck with 1 inbox mail unread despite all my inbox mails being read (and there's only 7 of them, not easy to miss).

  • New update causes painfully slow import time

Is anyone else feeling the pain of REALLY slow imports?  On a typical shoot, I may have more than 1,000 images to import.  I never had a problem before this recent update to 3.3.1.  Before, it took, I don't know, maybe 20 minutes to upload all the photos (RAW 12 megapixel files), plus some time for processing.  Now, it takes 20 minutes to import just 75 images.  So last night, I did the import of 900 before I went to sleep.  I imagine it took two or more hours.
I have the previews set to standard, and nothing else appears to be different from before.  It just seems kind of ridiculous.

Your Aperture library may be damaged. I did not notice any new slowness when importing with Aperture 3.3.1. If your Aperture library is causing this, then the import should be much faster, if you import into a new, empty library - you may want to make test import to compare import times.
If it is indeed the library, use the Aperture "Library First Aid Tools" to repair the permissions and to repair the database:

  • IPod sync painfully slow

After upgrading to itunes 7.0 syncing now takes couple of hours instead of couple of minutes that it took with the older version.
Updating to 7.0.1 did NOT fix this problem.
    Anybody else having this issue?

    Ethan, your not alone!
I experience this on the PC side also. I got off the phone with mac support and also thought it was iTunes 7.0.1. Here are some things I tryed that dramaticly increase my ipod sync speed.
•USB 2.0 port use that, if not firewire it's a bit slower but not noticable.
•"Do not use USB 1.0 ports".
    • latest software iTunes 7.0.1 and latest iPod software.
    • Before updating the iPod, in iTunes music library select "Date added" to the latest date, What this does is places the last changes in chronological order in one place for easier iPod search and sync.
    • Manage your iPod syncing manually to only update what you want.
    • AAC and mp4 files sync faster than mp3's
    • Files with a high compression Bit Rate slow down syncing not to mention use more disk space.
    • If your iTune library folder phyically resides on a external drive as in my case, try defragmenting it regulary, ****, defragment everything it's a good practice.
These things have made my syncing faster so far. I have over 14,000 songs most at 128 Bit Rate on my iPod and have been told that might make it slow, but I disagree before updating to 7.0.1 I synced up in second flat.
Hope these things helps, if you find something else e-mail me at [email protected]

  • New iphone syncing problems, causing itunes to crash

I just purchased a verizon iphone yesterday and am in the process of setting up the phone to my liking.  Because of the verizon service the phone came with ios 4.2.8 which I have now upgraded to 4.2.10.  The sync process goes fine as long as i am only syncing apps, contacts, updating software, etc... The problem comes when i attempt to sync music, photos, and videos.  The sync will clear the first few steps of the process fine but will then cause itunes to essentially become unresponsive and crash.  At this point I am given a message saying windows is looking for a solution to the problem. no solution is found and the only option i am given is to close the program.  Unfortunately there is no specific error message given.  Everytime i open itunes again after the crash it will begin to sync again, slowly make a little bit more progress then crash again.  I also have an ipad and an ipod that both still sync sucessfully and do not cause itunes to crash, so im assuming the problem might be with the phone.  I have tried a full uninstall and reinstall of itunes, quicktimes, and other associated programs to no avail.  I have booted into recovery mode and completely started over with no luck.  Now im out of ideas on just what to do.  Any Thoughts?  I'm running windows 7 with the newest itunes and a verizon iphone with 4.2.10 fyi.
    Thanks

Ahhh man mine is the only discussion without any replies! Any help or suggestions welcome please!

  • I updated my firefox yesterday and am now regretting that desicion. The new version is painfully slow and scrolling is even worse. Is there any way to roll back to my previous version?? Please help

All pages are very slow to load. Ebay is among the worst. The scolling is choppy at best, and all check boxes and expandable fields just show up blank. Desperately need to roll back the upgrade.

I'm having a similar problem. Something I've noticed is that the page doesn't seem to advance to whatever I've clicked on without me moving the cursor. I have no idea why that would make a difference.

I don't understand.  Won't the new iphone sync with itunes and icloud, assuming you have provided the Apple ID and password for the icloud?  Serial numbers cannot be used to connect to itunes or icloud.  Or am I misunderstanding your post?

  • My husband just got a new iphone and my notes from my older iphone automatically synced with his phone which he doesn't want.  How do I stop my notes from going to his phone

My husbands new iphone syncs with my old iphone.  All my notes when to his phone.  I don't want this to happen.  How do I stop my notes from going to his phone.  Thanks

Unless as part of a backup, or stored somewhere else, they are gone.
Your son needs his own Apple ID for iCloud, FaceTime & iMessage. He can continue to use yours for iTunes content, but for everything else, he needs his own.
When you did what you did, as far as iCloud knows, this is the same person with multiple devices, and that's they way things are supposed to work: keep everything in sync.
