New iPhone vs iPod Touch

I want to get an iPod Touch 8 gig to replace my 1st generation Nano, but I saw the new iPhone coming out and am considering waiting to purchase it instead of the Touch. I am currently an AT&T customer, but I don't know if any changes will need to be made to my contract if I buy an iPhone. My phone is only several months old and doesn't need to be replaced, but it seems that the iPhone is the cheaper way to go. What do you suggest?

You should contact AT&T regarding your contract. Any answer you may get here would be speculation at best as only AT&T can advise you on this.
As for the Nano > iPhone I would be cautious of such a leap. You need to look at your monthly charges for your current phone/plan and see if moving to an iPhone is a viable option for you financially. iPod Touch may make more sense financially.
However, iPod Touch pretty much does everything the iPhone 3G does accept it will not have GPS and requires a WiFi connection for data. If having everything in one device is essential then you need the iPhone 3G.

  • IPhone vs. iPod Touch -- question

Hello. I'm in the market for a new cell phone and I think I'm going to buy a 32GB iPhone. I already have a 64GB iPod Touch, and my question is: what are the differences between the two? There is, of course, the obvious answer that the iPhone has cell phone capabilities whereas the iPod Touch does not -- I'm aware of this, but I'm curious what the differences are between the two devices aside from this.
The reason I ask is because the 32GB iPhone and the 32GB iPod Touch are both priced at $299, which I found surprising -- I would have thought that the iPhone would be more expensive than its equivalent iPod Touch. The iPhone can do something the iPod Touch can't (the ability to be used as a cell phone), which I would think would make it cost more money than the iPod Touch, so the fact that they are the same price seems to indicate that the iPod Touch must, in turn, have something that iPhone does not, in order to negate the iPhone's cell phone capabilities and explain the equal price.
So, what, if anything, does the iPod Touch have that the iPhone doesn't? Is there anything the iPod Touch can do that the iPhone can't? Are it's audio and video capabilities just as good? In other words, will music sound just as good through my iPhone as it would through my iPod Touch? Will movies look just as good?
What are all the difference between the two devices?
    Thank you for your help!

The 32G iPhone is $299 because it's subsidized by AT&T. You have to sign a 2 year contract and pay a monthly data access fee for those 2 years. The actual cost of the 32G iPhone is $500-600. The music and video is the same for both but the new iPhone 4 has the hi-res screen that an older Touch will not.
Google is your friend... there are LOTS of iPhone vs. Touch comparisons on the web. Here's one... http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/09/09/iphone-4-vs-ipod-touch-4g-almost-identical-b ut-so-different-the-new-iphone-4-ipod-touch-4g-should-be-so-similar-but-they-rea lly-aren%E2%80%99t/

  • My new 4th gen. iPod touch is not being recognized by my PC

When I plug in my new 4th gen iPod touch, the computer just says that it is a USB device that is not recognized, what can I do? My operating system is Windos Vista.

    Does the iPod work OK?
Have you tied resetting the iPod? Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next would be to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore via iTunes.  If iTunes does not see the iPod then the iPod is not usable. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • I am using new laptop with ipod touch and have downloaded i.tunes.  in the past i.tunes showed all the tracks on my old i.pod.  I can't seem to find the i.touch library to change or delete music. What am I not doing?

I am using a new laptop, windows 7, with ipod touch, hoping to listen to, whilst on line, edit and add music to my ipod library.  I have downloaded i.tunes but it does not show my library.  I know I have repeats to delete too but cant see anything, It does recognise that there is a body of music with the indication bar at the bottom., but does not list anything.  Help

I attempted to back up my old iPod, but in File - Library - back up to disk, it's asking for 15 disks!  I can't just back up to the PC/ext HDD that I can see.
That backing up your iTunes library, not your iPod. You can backup up your library by:
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
First you have to get Itunes to see the iPod. See the following. Notupdating your iPod iOS has nothing to do with it.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
You can transfer iTune spurchases from the iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
You can also redownload iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer.
For other music yo will need a thrid-party progtam like one of those discussed here:
    newer copy

  • New Security update ipod touch 4th gen

I was down loading a few new apps/games for my 32gb 4th gen ipod touch using the ipod it's self  last nite 18-9-2011, after they where down loaded i connected my ipod to my computers itunes i went in the back up stage copying the app's/games to my itunes library, after this was done an message poped up on both my computer and ipod touch saying new Security update ipod touch 4th gen it satrting to download and i could not cancel it, now i know my ipod has the 16 digt passcode set up on it so now everytime i link my ipod to any of my auhorised computer it say itunes can not connect to my ipod as its passcoded which i think is an good thing because if i lose it anybody finding it if i lose it can't restore it. but is there any way of my computer been able to know its pass code with out haveing to enter it in to the ipod its self all the time

I looked at the descriptions for the last three update and none said they did anything about entering the passcode.  The Apple documentation says you should only have to enterthe passcode the first time you connect to the computer.  Specifically:
If you protect your iPhone or iPod touch with a passcode, you will be prompted to enter the passcode when you connect to iTunes. Once you successfully enter the passcode, iTunes will recognize that device as authorized and you will not need your passcode to back up or sync.

  • Do All New 3rd Gen iPod Touches Mome with 3.1.1

I was just wondering if all the new 3rd generation iPod Touches 32's & 64's) come with the new 3.1.1 firmware already installed?

Did you look at the ipod touch page or 3.1 software page on Apple's website?
One of the very first sentences:
"iPod touch comes with the latest software already installed."
    http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/more-features.html
    Also:
"The iPhone 3.1 software for iPod touch is included with all iPod touch models purchased after September 9, 2009."

  • What is new in the iPod Touch 5?

Hello I was wondering what is going to be new in the iPod Touch 5? Thanks!

Apple has not yet made any announcement with regards to the 5G iPod Touch.  It is against the erms of use of this forum to speculate on such things.  Google if you want to see what others are speculating.

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

  • After getting a new router, my Ipod touch is asking for a password.  I didn't have one before, so I don't know what it is

After getting a new router, my ipod touch is asking for a password.  I was able to put in the router's passcode on all my other wireless stuff, but the ipod won't accept it.  I thought I had made too many attempts, but I've reset it and it still won't let me on.  I have no idea what the password is or why it is now asking for one. Help!!

Look at the manual for the router.  The password is on the router.  Then change the password in the router to something other than the default one and use that password when the iPod asks for it (it will only ask once, once it has the password/router combo in its memory, it will remember it)

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, including separate backups. I'd suggest giving each device a unique name, to make things easier.

If you are using the internet then it's eating away at your data plan, irrespective of your Apple ID.
Here's an article about data plans:

You can move the rental between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period. However, the movie can only be played on one device at a time. If you rent a movie on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on that device.
This is a confusing statement. Can really move the rental between devices or not???

If you originally downloaded it to a computer, yes. If you originally downloaded it to an iOS device, probably not; if you want to try anyway, use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes.
