New iphone4! But it will not sync with my itunes "apple mobile devise service is not started"
I just got an iphone 4 - Yay! Have itunes on my home computer, synced with an ipod nano. And now I cannot get my itunes to load on the Ipod on my phone. Whn I plug in it says "apple mobile devise service is not started" Help, please!
Type "Apple mobile device service" into the search bar at the top of this page by "Support".

What does "This ipod can not be used because the apple mobile device service is not started" mean. After I updated my Itunes I get this message when I plug in my Ipod and it doesn't come up in Itunes.
If you are using Windows 7, go to:
Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features
Look for a program called 'Apple Mobile Device Support'
Right-click on it
Click 'repair'
Wait until the repair operation is complete, and voila, your problem should be solved, itunes will recognise your iphone/ipod once more. This worked for me. -

Help, just upgrade the itunes to 10.5 now it says This Iphone can not be used because the Apple mobile device service is not started. I was able to access the it from my second computer without any problem. Phone is running 5.0

How do I start the Apple Mobile Device service? or maybe I shouldn't get it. I recently downloaded a Netflix app thinking it would work on my older iPod running version 3.1.3 and is only a 8 Gig device. Could this be my problem? When i plug my iphone into my computer itunes opens and then i get a pop up message that says "This iphone can not be used because the apple mobile device service is not started"
Prior to this i have had no problems using my iphone with itunes.Right click My Computer.
Choose Manage.
Expand Services and Applications.
Click on Services.
Locate that service and ensure it is started and set to Automatic. -

I think I remember hearing that if you quit iTunes with your device still connected, then open iTunes up again, it should work.

with a little determination, i search the awesome internet for the solution. i found http://senseiphone.com/fix-apple-mobile-device-not-started_itunes-0315129/ which fixed everything.i hope this help any1 else that have the same problem

Although you used the new USB 3.0 port, the actual connection speed is still USB2.0, as the iPod Dock connector, does not have the 10 times faster USB3.0 signal pins, the connection speed is still 480Mbits/s
I assumed that you have tried the other USB 2.0 port to no success..
Can you do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.

You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
