New iPhoto 9.5 (902.7) much slower and import issues

I have a 2007 iMac and ever since I uploaded to Mavericks/iPhoto there's been issues.
While it seems that a number of people have  noticed 'slowness' and I like other people had lots of crashing with items like Garageband (Fixed with 10.0.1 update), I conteinue to have problems with iPhoto and subsequently iTunes.
When I attach my iPhone to the USB cable, it properly starts iPhoto and the iPhone shows up as a device, but then it just sits there with the Beach Ball trying to load the pictures.
I've deleted everything on the iPhone and tried again but I continually have problems.
I hooked up my iPad 2 to the same way and it only had one picture on it but it took forever to show up but it did successfully load however, I tried again with some screenshots that I took and it hung as well.
This seems to be connected to iTunes sync as well as even when I have no photos on my iPhone so it doesn't trigger iPhoto loading, the photo sync either takes forever or quite often, just hangs iTunes and stops responding.
iphoto once complained about library problems so I tried all the steps except to completely recreate the database.  Still same issues (slow and hanging imports)
This also is happening on my Olympus OM-D EM-1 camera and SD Card reader that I attach so it seems more of a general issue than specific to my iPhone, etc.
Any suggestions?  Recreate the entire iPhoto Database?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect the iPad or iPhone and try to import some photos  to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

I am also up for a new upgrade on my second phone line and was going to get a 4s but now I am thinking it may be the wrong choice I am very unhappy with Apple right now...

WOW! That font is difficult to read. But, see if this support document helps you http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3989. Photos stream is based on date and photos more than 30 days old are removed. Photostream is designed as a temporary storage to allow you to download the photos to the computer.

If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the startup drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test.
Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

  • New iPad Kindle/Distro much slower and jumpy?

  • IPhoto - 8.0.2 (4020 - much slower import of photos

I updated today to the latest version of iPhoto and instantly after installing importing photos in the same way as I usually do from my CF card (Canon RAW files) has become unbelieveably slow.
Are others experiencing this same issue?

    Hi tt,
I haven't had that experience so far on any of my computers. As a test, try with a new iphoto library (hold down the option key while you open the iPhoto program, click new library). If the same speed issue exists with a new library then something changed. If it DOES NOT persist in a new iphoto library than your specific library is having issues.
If the issue is happening with any library I would remove the following to the trash and restart:
/Library/Caches (you'll need your password for this one. Don't dump this on a regular basis but for an import issue it makes some sense)
    ~/Library/Caches
If the issue is happening with a specific library I would follow this article:

    Hope that helps.

  • New Macbook Air i5 wireless is very slow and disconnect again and again. Any one has the same issue or some help??

I recently bought a new 13 inch Macbook air and wireless internet is really slow and disconnect again and again. However I hav another windows laptop at the same place and that never disconects or looses signals? wireless on this mac is too slow that I cannot even use to make a skype call. I am new mac user and getting a bit disappointed because of this bad performance.I googled about this issue and found that lot of people are having the same issue with macbook air. I switched off the bluetooth adaptor but still no progress. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I am experiencing something similar with my MBA 13"/i5/256GB.
To take it one step further, I started up a Terminal session and ran a ping against my wireless router. I see the same pattern repeated over and over: I get about 5 or 6 pings through, then 4 or 5 misses, then it reconnects again. When it reconnects, the first ping or two have times in thousands of milliseconds, where normal is maybe sub-millisecond to 4ms for the remaining few seconds.
I have other wireless devices, including iPhone, iPad, and an older MacBook - all work fine. The MBA is the only Lion device.

  • Running slow and glitch issues.

I have a late '08 MBP. A couple months ago I started having problems with my Mac running slow, and acting "glitchy." Since then I have maxed out my RAM and have over 60GB of free space on my hard-drive. I am still experiencing the same problems. What do I do? I think that I may have a virus, despite the common believe that Macs are not vulnerable to viruses. Someone help!

  • New iMac 3.06 DVD slow and burning issues

I just unpacked my new iMac 3.06 GHz and upgraded to 10.6.2, first thing I noticed: starting time was slower than my 2.66 GHz "old" iMac, I tried to burn a DVD, same speed 8x and it took twice time or more than my "old" iMac,
    Is there an upgrade coming?
    Thank you

Hopefully an upgrade will fix those little problems,

  • Adressbook on new MacBookPro with 10.67 very very slow and so the whole system...help please?!

I already deleted intelligent groups, deleted half of the contacts, deleted preferences and reimported contacts after deleting and so on....no clue the addressbook is slowing the whole system down it seems. What to do?

Nope, it came with the upgrade to 10.7.2.
I've also tried to reinstall Lion yesterday. Nothing changed.
I've not visited the Cisco support site but I did a bit of search and it seems that nobody, except me, has this problem.
Certificates in the keychain file?! I'm just browsing to facebook on https for example... Don't know what you mean exactly with certificates. But anyway, this is not the problem, rather I think that this is just a part of the bigger problem. ;-)
At home each SSL secured website works pretty good.

  • HT4623 Is there any way to get iOS 7 off my iPad? It is MUCH slower and less responsive than it was! Why do you people always have to fix something that isn't broken?

Is anyone else experiencing sluggishness and the need to practically pound the screen to get a response from the keyboard?

    (A) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.
    (B) Reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

  • G5 dual 2.7- 'slowness' and airport issues

Hi, I have a dual 2.7Ghz PowerMac G5, with 4GB of RAM, 2 500GB internal SATA drives, and 2 external FW800 drives (one 300GB, one 500). I use the system mainly for Photoshop work, and a bit of flash web design.
The system's been quirky as of late, and while it's not unusable, it is slightly annoying. Firstly, when the machine's been on for a while, I find it slows down significantly. Restarting it often takes some time, especially for the desktop to reappear. If I turn it off, leave it for a few hours, and turn it back on it usually runs fine.
Also, I have Temperature Monitor Lite running, and I've noticed that while doing some more processor-intensive tasks in Photoshop (eg. lens correction filter), the system slows down greatly while the temperature rises upward of 90ºC on processor A. It seems to be that it only used to get into the low 80's. As I'm typing this, it's a more normal 64.4ºC.
I've run the Apple Hardware Test CD and it says that there are no problems. I found that resetting nvram used to help with some of the slowness, but it seems to do relatively little now. Initially I thought it was lack of RAM, so I upgraded from 2GB to 4, which didn't help. I changed the HD out from the original 250GB to 500, and that didn't solve it either...
The other issue is my Airport connection. I usually get 1-2 bars, with the connection frequently dropping off completely. I've reinserted the card, and moved the antenna on the back of the computer a bit. Given that my 400Mhz G4 sitting a few feet away gets a full signal, as does my MacBook Pro, I'm not really sure if this is normal.
If anyone can shed some light on these problems, it'd be much appreciated.

When did you last do a full clean reinstall?
Do you ever run Applejack? Onyx? Disk Warrior?
How about a backup, erase, and restore? that also works for me, using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (just be sure to run Disk Warrior afterwards).
Corrupt files, whether prefs, cache, or system, and definitely don't want problems with the directory, or with bad blocks.
Why boot from CD? setup an emergency boot drive or partition for running Disk Warrior (and maybe TechTool Pro 4.5.x).
For Photoshop you do want a "lean, mean" and clean OS, a dedicated scratch disk, another drive for data or media. And I'd add PCI-X eSATA for RAID. And keep everything not needed by the system on another drive (just OS and applications). Maybe partition your 500GB drive in half, or even use the two drives in boot RAID.
As long as the liquid cooling is working and keeping things cool.... and it doesn't sound like it is. How about upgrading to Hardware Monitor?
Is the ambient air temp mid 70's?
I would setup and install a fresh OS (maybe FW800) and see how a base system runs first.
Install Applejack, read the notes and use it to clean the cache files (I do that before any OS update). Just run FSCK command, then follow instructions on screen for Applejack - all done in single user mode to repair your boot drive.

  • Got a apple g4 powerbook 867mhz running slow and few issue help

    i got a powerbook g4 867mhz laptop..
and i find tat my laptop is running slow
i try to update the OS on apple site..none of them work
also i dont have the restore disc lost it somewhere when i move.
so in this case wat i can do to restore the whole laptop ?
and wat OS i can install on my laptop? help please

OS X 10.5 is Leopard, not Tiger. 10.4 is Tiger, 10.3 is Panther, 10.2 is Jaguar. If you have an 867MHz 15" Powerbook, it came with Jaguar (10.2.3) preinstalled, and you can use any later (10.3.x, 10.4.x, or 10.5.x) retail installer disc on it. A grey installer disc that came with any other Mac model won't work; the retail discs are black. Also black are the Upgrade discs (they say "Upgrade" somewhere on their labels). Those require that the previous major OS version be installed, or they won't run. A 10.5 Leopard Upgrade installer requires that 10.4 Tiger is already present on the drive where you're trying to install Leopard. If it isn't, no dice.
If your friend is running Leopard on his machine, it's a violation of his license for him to let you install it on yours too. So it's just as well the installation doesn't work. You'll need to buy your own operating system.
Before you do, read the System Requirements for whichever version you want to buy, and make sure your Powerbook meets them. Note that in all cases, the RAM requirement is a bare minimum; performance will be substantially better with more than the required amount of RAM. If your hard drive is the standard 40GB drive for that model, be aware that you should maintain a minimum of 5-8GB of free space on it at all times after Panther or Tiger is installed, or 10-12GB if you install Leopard.

  • Has the new Early 2013 Retina Macbook Pro still lag and display issues?

Hello. I've never had a Mac before and I'm thinking of buying the new "early 2013" 15-inch (2.7 Ghz, 16Gb Ram, $2799) Retina Macbook Pro. I live in Argentina but I'm going to NYC in a couple of weeks and I want to get one there. The thing is, that I can not be returning it 2 or 3 times like I read a lot of peple had to, because I'll be coming back home after 2 weeks and here they will only fix it, not replace it for a new one, and that could take months.
So, I want to know if you guys can help me decide if I should go for it or not, if these image retention and burn in and ui lag issues appear to be fixed with this new model or if it is still the same. If I don't buy this one I'll be getting the new Samsung Series 7 Chronos they showed in CES 2013, still not available in the market. Thanks a lot!

I just checked and I have the LG SJA2, too. I didn't notice any Image retention at first, I tested it with the chessboard test for 5 or 6 minutes, it showed no IR. But with 10 minutes I can see a bit of IR. Nothing that can affect the normal use of the computer, I mean I have to put the chessboard for 10 minutes and then change to grey to notice it, but it does exist and is the SJA2 from LG. If it doesn't get worst, I think it doesn't even matter. I just hope it doesn't get worst.
FWIW, I noticed that until I stopped looking at the chessboard before it switched; my eyes had image retention. But  in that awfully long thread on the subject, some have insisted that if it's an LG, it's trouble so I guess there's no guarantee. (BTW, I was writing this when you tried the test again - ocular image retention?)
Not to hijack the thread, but shortly after I posted that "good news" about SJA2, my rMBP simply refused to start at all; it was totally inert. Charging, not charging, SMC reset, nothing helped. Tech support's only solution was bring it in to be fixed.
On a hunch, and remembering something about magnets in the top of the display activating a reed switch in the base, probably near the trackpad, I lifted the front of the Mac about 1/4" inch and let it drop. Bingo! The Mac has operated properly so far. I suspect the reed switch was stuck in the wrong position, and some evidence suggests it was that way out of the box and my fix corrected it.

  • Mail Flow Central - Slowness and database issues

    Hello,
My MFC database is about 220 gig, keeping 45 days of data. It is running on a large system (Quad XEON Processor HP ML 570, with 6 Spindals for the data drive) and it still gets so busy it shuts down MySql.
Support keeps telling me to index the tables, but they are indexed, and I keep getting errors.
    Is anyone else having issues?
Anybody with a database this size or larger?
    Thanks,
    Mike

From our experience the performance issues with MFC are around the purge process.
Our ugly work around was to set the purge date to 3 months our and to start over with a clean database every 2 months or so. Effective the purge never happens, we wipe and recreate. Like I said it is an ugly kludge. Eight weeks of data ends up being about a 512GB size database in our environment.
Long-term I think MFC has to go to a rolling partitioned table solution, based on date. So then the purge process can be done more efficiently at the partition level.
