New iPhoto not loading photos from CD or time machine

Our hard drive recently failed and we got it replaced.  When they replaced our HD, they upgraded us to Mac OS X 10.6.8 and iPhoto 9.1.5.  We hooked time machine up to restore our old photos and they initially showed up on iPhoto, then most disappeared (thumbnails are now black.  Photo names are still there, but pictures are gone.  When I click on the black thumbnail, I get an exclamation point).  SOME of the pictures loaded, at least half are gone.  I've tried the tricks of command-option clicking iPhoto and clicking all the boxes and downloading iphoto manager.  Nothing.  Then we tried importing an old CD of pictures and they aren't showing up at all (it says "no photos").
So... What's going on?  I want my pictures back!

5956 photos could not be copied because they could not be found in the original library.  Click the "View Log" button to see which photos could not be found.

  • Iphoto 9.5.1 not loading photos from my SD Card?

iPhoto says "loading" but it has been there forever and will not load my photos. I have 690 photos on the Sd card. Originally I hit import on the 690 photos and every since it has says loading and has been stuck on that.
I have quit IPhoto and reopened it three times. I have rebuilt the Library then quit IPhoto 9.5.1 and still when I go to import the photos it says "loading". What can I do? I really need these photos imported to my iMac? Thanks for your help and/or suggestions.

Sounds like it might need to be reformatted - which you would do with the Camera. However, that will erase the card and you'll lose the photos.
Try bring it to another machine - a Windows one for instance, you might get lucky and be able to access the photos there.

  • IPhoto not accepting photos from iPhone IOS7

I have not been able to copy photos from my iPhone 4S to my macbook 1,1 (OSX 10.6.8) since I installed IOS7.0 on the phone. "file is in an unrecognizable format" and it's JPG.

    Export: File -> Export
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    Copy: Use iPhoto Library Manager
But best to rebuild the library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto not getting photos from Sony Cybershot

I have a Sony Cybershot, maybe about a year or two old, and I am now having trouble downloading photos from it onto my Macbook.
When I used to connect the Cybershot via the USB, it would bring up a volume called NONAME, which would also show up in iPhoto. I could then download my photos from there. I tried several times to rename NONAME with a name that would indicate it was the camera, but was never able to.
A few months ago, TWO volumes called NONAME started showing up when I connected the camera. But they would both show up in iPhoto and I would just figure out which one was actually the camera, and get the pictures off it.
Now when I connect the Cybershot via the USB port, I get three volumes showing up on my desktop:
    1. PMHOME, which says it is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT16), Capacity 22 MB, Available 21.6 MB, Used 315,392 bytes
    2. NO NAME, formatted MS-DOS (FAT12), Capacity 51.1 MB, Available 51 MB, Used 131,072 bytes
    3. NO NAME, formatted MS-DOS (FAT32), Capacity 31.68 GB, Available 31.48 GB, Used 199,426,048 bytes
The last one must be the camera, but I don't understand what the other two are.
Once the camera is connected, the Cybershot gives me the screen saying it is connecting via USB, and then a screen saying 'Power feed with the USB disconnected.' If I click Okay on that screen, the Cybershot will show me the pictures on my camera, and suddenly all three volumes will disappear from my desktop, and I get a message saying "Disk not ejected properly" on my desktop. During this time iPhoto will not have opened automatically; if I open it manually, it does not detect the presence of the camera. Nothing shows up under "devices."
Any advice on what on earth is going on and how to fix it? Thank you.

I guess I am not explaining myself well - although it seems pretty simple and straight forward
Your only choice is to reformat the card - this erases the contents so if you want the photos that are on it you have to get them off first - the options to do that are
Use image capture (in your aplications folder)
    or use a card reader
or use the finder ( most Sony cameras mount to the finder an you can just drag photos off of them)
    Or another computer
The other computer does not have to be at your house or even a Mac - it can be a PC or at an Apple store or at a friends house - but if you want the photos then you must get them somehow
and then you must reformat the card

  • Iphoto not loading photos

so i was in the midst of creating a photobook, when my computer froze. i had to restart it, which appeared to be fine. then later, while working on the photobook, i put it to sleep, and when i woke it, there was a message reading "your computer has crashed, please restart" or something like that.
my computer is fine, however, when i open iphoto, the application loads, but seems to be stuck on "loading photos". i can work all the commands in the menu, including quitting, etc. it just doesn't load the photos.
can someone tell me what is this alla bout, and give me pointers on how to fix this issue? i am using iphoto 5.0.4. do i need to update to iphoto 06?

If iPhoto is your only problem, you should start with this:

  • New HD not recognized as startup disk after Time Machine restore

I installed a 320 GB seagate HD (original drive from my Mac Pro) into my wife's iMac G5 1.8Ghz replacing the stock 80 GB drive. Once I completed the installation, I used the "Restore from a Time Machine Backup" option on the OS X 10.5 installer disk to restore the old data onto the new drive. All went we but now the drive isn't recognized as a startup disk. It shows up in disk utility but not as a bootable device.
    Any suggestions?

Good catch! That's exactly what the problem is. The G5's drive needs to be reformatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled), but before that is done, the data should be transferred to an external, so it can be reloaded onto the G5 afterwards.

  • Howto restore deleted files/photos from aperture (backup =time machine)

Hi there, I'm following up on a thread I posted under 'time-machine' discussion forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12158758#12158758)
Problem: I incidentally deleted some photos that shouldn't have been deleted. I'm using 'time-machine' and wonder how can I restore those images?
As I recall, there is one file (as in database) for aperture that store all photos init. Is there a 'trick' to get yesterday's file and resurrect the lost photos?
    Thanks for any pointers.

    Adriana
are the files in the Aperture trash?
Do you use the vault feature of Aperture or just Time Machine?
If you only use Time Machine the files will be in there, get back to us on the first couple and if it is only Time Machine some one here can step you through how to retrieve the files.

  • HT1338 iMovie will not load photos from iPhoto, how do I fix this?

I am using a brand new MacBook Pro, have read other comments about this problem but found no solution.  What's up with this issue?  I want to make a slide show using iMovie, like I've done dozens of times with my older macs, am having NO luck with this new iMovie.  Paid a lot of $ for this new computer, what's the deal Apple?

I noticed you have a viewer plugin from that site. Could you check whether it is set to "click to play"? If so, you could try having it always activated.
Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Musicnotes Viewer" and if it says "Ask to Activate", change it to "Always Activate". Then return to the site and reload to see whether it works.
While you are on the Add-ons page... I noticed you have an extension named Media Watch that many users consider unwanted software or even a virus.
On the Add-ons page, if you click Extensions in the left column, can you find Media Watch remove it?
If the Remove button is missing, you probably need to remove some software using the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. Click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent additions to the top. This typically will reveal that a bundle of (undisclosed) programs was installed along with something you actually wanted. Remove as much as possible here.
Then you can supplement your regular security software with the scanners/cleaners listed in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].

  • Iphoto not storing photos from CD

Importing photos into Iphoto from a CD or external hard drive only points to that destination.  Remove the hard drive or CD and you can see the preview but if you try to open it, it looks for the file.  Under preferences I have "copy items to the Iphoto library" checked.
Strangely enough, when I import from digital camera or Iphone, it saves the full image on my hard drive.
    Thoughts?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Delete photos in iphoto not deleting photos from iphone

I import photos into IPhoto. Then when Iphoto asked to delete imported photos I click yes however they don't actually delete?
The next time I try to import photos they are all there.
I went into Itunes to check if my photos were synced and they are not. Any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you remove applications from iTunes, they aren't deleted in any device apart from the PC or Mac. That's caused because iCloud doesn't sync removed apps, but it syncs installed apps if you have activated Automatic Downloads. That's the reason why your apps may appear in all your computers and devices when you download one. You can remove the applications

  • IPhoto doesn´t work after trying to load photos from iphone with newer version. Help!!!!!

First, I do not have a recent back-up of my iPhoto Library. (But, I learned my lesson for next time). When I tried to load photos from my super duper up to date software I-phone to my outdated iPhoto on the computer (only version 8.1.2), a message came that I cannot open your Mediateck with this version of iPhoto,. You have changed your mediathek with a newer version of iPhoto.
(in German, because I am writing from Germany "Sie konnen ihre aktuelle Mediathek nicht mit dieser Version von iPhoto öffnen. Sie haben Ihre Mediathek mit einer neueren version von iPhoto geändert").
How can I save all the baby pictures of my 3 kids??Help

    Did you update iPhoto?
    If not:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new iPhoto 08 library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IPhoto 9.6 sees iPhone, but will not load photos

I upgraded to Yosemite and iPhoto would not work. I threw that away and downloaded it again and it started up okay. Moving forward, I hooked up my iPhone 6 and it has been an hour or more now saying it is 'loading,' but clearly, that doesn't seem likely.
Ideas, fixes? Do I need to trash iPhoto yet again and download it?
    Thanks,
    David

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect the iPhone and try to Import the photos to see if the same problem persists. Does it?  Don't have iPhoto delete the photos from the camera.

  • Loading photos from camera to iphoto

I am having trouble uploading photos from my lumix camera to my mac.  In the past it has been no problem.  Now all I get on my desktop is the symbol that the camera is connected.  The symbol with 'no name', but usually it would then open IPhoto and load the pictures.  Now, nothing.
Has anyone else ever experienced this, and what can I do to fix it?
    Thank you

What exact camera? What version of iPhoto? are you shooting RAW or JPEG? is OS X 10.6.8 as reported in your profile correct? What has recently changed? Will Image Capture (in your applications =folder) import them? If you can get them off the card then use the camera's format command to erase and reformat the card
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • IMovie '09 Won't Load Photos from iPhoto

I recently upgraded to iLife '09 at work and at home. My iMac at wok does fine with the up grade but iMovie on my intel based MacBook Pro won't load photos from iPhoto. Anyone else have this problem or can suggest what my problem may be? My software is up to date and other programs are working OK.

Hello, i have also had the same issue. Basically when i click on the photo icon in imovie 09 the library doesn't show,it's just blank but also my itunes library isn't showing up either. The only way i can get photos and music into imovie is by dragging them into imovie but thats not the way the program is meant to work and would also like to fix this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
