  • My new iPod 80GB is kaput...

Well, finally got my new iPod 80GB Video today after what was an extremely dramatic ordeal with FedEx.
So, I hook the iPod up and yadda yadda iTunes begins transfering my Library to it. Up until about 800MBs, where it tells me that the disk cannot be written to. I have tried transfering both video and audio and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've restored it several times. I reformatted it for UNIX and then back to Mac OS Journaled in Disk Utility. I've Verified and Repaired it in Disk Utility (no reported issues). I've run TechTool Pro's disk tests on it. TechTool is still only part way through its Surface Scan block test and it's found three bad blocks thus far.
Apple Support is closed for the evening.
Anybody know what to do?
    Dual 1.42GHz MDD   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1GB of RAM, 640GBs of S-ATA, GeForce 4 Ti... etc.

    This *****.
Even getting the iPod today was a hassle. It was supposed to have been delivered by 10:30, and I opted to be 45 minutes late for work so that I could be here until 10:30 to take delivery of it. When that didn't happen, I had to ask a neighbor to accept the package when it came. 5pm rolls around and I'm checking the order status from work only to see that FedEx didn't even attempt delivery and took the iPod back to the airport sort facility.
I called to find out why and I was told that it hadn't cleared customs for some reason so I couldn't even pick it up. I called back again and was told that my unit was the only one of a 500 unit shipment that had a customs clearance problem, but it was definitely processed through customs and cleared for delivery, but that the customes clearance sticker fell off. And that if the driver had scanned the package she would have seen that it had been cleared for delivery, but she didn't even make an attempt. AND that if the first person I had talked to had bothered to care at all, she would have been able to find out the same thing the second person was telling me.
So after work I had to drive 10 miles out to the airport terminal to get the iPod, then struggle through traffic to get home with the thing only to find that I didn't have a USB 2 card, so transfering my Library over 1.1 was going to take days. So I tried running around town to see if I could find anybody who was still open after 9pm that was selling USB 2 PCI cards for anywhere near a decent price.
After barely making it in and out at Circuit City before close, I got a card and came home... Only to find that the iPod is defective...
    Sigh

  • Help.. brand new Ipod 80gb not being recognised by Computer or itunes

Replaced a ipod mini that was stolen from my house with a brand new 80gb ipod. Plugged it into the same computer that had been used successfully with the mini and the ipod will not be seen by either the computer or itunes. It will charge through the usb post no problem but when you plug it in it originally came up with the windows new hardware wizard, as apple have for some misguided reason stopped supplying CD's, the wizard can not find the correct driver, and fails to install. When Itunes is running nothing appears. I have been through the 5 R's, or should I say 4 r's as the fifth rely's on itunes recognizing the ipod before you can restore, countless time, so please unless you are sure don't ask me to click the hold button on and off yet again.
Plugged the ipod into an old laptop with USB 1.0 ports and the ipod was recognized which would suggest it is my main comp's usb ports that are at fault, but as two previous ipod mini's worked without fault I find this hard to believe. I think if only I had the correct driver to install I could solve this problem easily. Can anyone send me the correct driver for an 80gb ipod.
It hopefully goes without saying that I have downloaded the latest itunes software and gone through all the post's on the this site. I thought I'd cracked it with the UBSSORT file post but it was not to be....to tell you the truth if it's this complicated I'd rather send it back and buy a sony mp3 or even an ipod nano. At my wits end so please help Obi one, your my only hope

Big Big thank you to Varun at Apple Service & Support e-mailed me the following article and after following the instructions, I'm up and running. Thank you ......

  • Windows Freezes When New Ipod 60gb plugged in

When I plug in my video ipod, my windows xp will slow down. I can click things in the desktop and nothing will happen. Sometimes I cant click the start menu. It shows that the "new hardware" is plugged in. If I unplug it, all the things i clicked on open and windows runs fine. If I leave the ipod plugged in for a few minutes, like 2-5, it will eventually open up itunes and connect to the ipod but I dont like how slow it takes to connect. Does anyone know why this would be happening?

Same Problem with a Dimension 4500 with USB 2.0 so I am not sure that's the problem. It appears to be all about being patient for the PC to recognize the IPOD and get Itunes up and running. The things get better.
When updating the IPOD I get a message after 50 or so MB are transferred that the update has stopped because the disk is not accessible.
My guess on all this is that there is a incompatibility with the USB drivers

  • New iPod 80GB not working on older iHome

I just got a new 80GB iPod and when I went to put it on my iHome the iPod didn't do anything. Didn't try to charge or anything. The iHome works just fine with my old 15GB but not the new one. The iHome is about 2 years old.
Do the older iHomes not work with the new iPods?

There have been many reports about the iHome docks not working with the iPod Classic. Why not contact their customer support for a definitive answer?

  • New iPod 80gb will not display music videos

Bought a brand new 4th iPod last week and it's my first video, an 80gb to make use of the loads of different quicktime stuff i have including music videos.
Had already updated my Itunes and OS using automatic software update in OS X, then loaded and learned that many of my quicktime movies i kept in iTunes needed converting to be iPod freindly which I did using a combination of QT 7 pro, iTunes, iSquint and ffmpegx. If i set them as music video in itunes i can play them but they never appear in the music video playlist on the ipod, if I make them movie they al llist in the movie window but i get no list by artist or artist details and have to play them one at a time, the one video i have from iTMS does not allow me to change the option from movie to music video the button being greyed out..
at first I thought the problem was me but the more and more i look having reinstalled itunes and restored the ipod the problem I believe is increasingly faulty apple hardware, software or firmware as all my videos can now be played through the movie option .. any one here care to discuss am i right / am i wrong? . .anyone out there watching movies through the music video playlist with a video iPod especially 80gb

  • How do I setup a new ipod shuffle? Nothing is happening automatically like directions say!

I am trying to setup my daughters ipod shuffle, but nothing is working as it says.  Does anyone have any other advise to help get started?

    Howdy Cardevbarger,
It sounds like you plug in the iPod Shuffle to a computer and it is not recognized either in the computer or in iTunes. I would try either of these 2 articles depending on the operating system of the computer:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
    or
iTunes: iPod not recognized in iTunes and Mac desktop

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Help with Ipod 80GB (detailed message as to what I have tried) error -50

Originally I had downoaded some music and put it into itunes and synced it with my brand new Ipod 80GB. Everything was fine. I deleted my songs from my hard drive and itunes. A few weeks later I had a new batch of songs that I wanted to put onto my ipod through itunes. There was a message saying there was a new version of software available and I downloaded it and everything haywire.
Now, here is what happens every time I hook my ipod up to my Dell using windows xp.
    1. I plug it in and it tells me my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. I click that option.
    2. I get back a message saying ipod cannot sync with an unknown error occuring -50
    3. I tried apple.com's approach to fixing this error message on windows xp by copying these files into notebook and opening them:
    regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll
    4. after letting that window close it instructs that I now open itunes and hook up ipod and restore things.
    5. After hooking things up i get the same message as before. my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. I click that option again.
    6. I get the same error -50 message.
    7. I repeat the same process of copying those files into notebook and starting all over.
    8. I get the same message "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu. This time I cancel the erase and sync and just try to restore. It tells me it has restored and will start again in 15 seconds.
    9. I get the same message as before "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu."
    10. This time I click cancel and try to update my software from 1.0.3 to the new version of 1.1.
It tells me it has been updated wait 15 seconds and it should be fine.
    11. I then get the same message as before "my ipod is synced to another cpu. Would I like to erase and sync to this cpu."
I am clueless as to what to do now. I was detailed so I could hopefully get some specific advice as to what to do next.

    Finally a solution!!!!!!!!!!!
While I tried every option that was passed along here and none of them worked I appreciate the help and suggestions. I took it to the apple store and they fixed it. They said it was messed up because I probably had plugged it into too many different computers but i only plugged it inti one other computer but who cares.
Here is what to do if you are desperate: Most owners know that if you push the menu and the center button at the same time the ipod will restart. WELL!!!! If you can't do anything with your ipod you need to press the center button and the play/pause button at the same time and this will restart the ipod and put it in disk mode. Connect it to your cpu and open itunes. It will erase eveyrhing and reset it from scratch. All the way back to having to name your ipod again. Just a thought for those who don't mind losing their info and if they already have it saved to put back on.

  • New iPod Touch Issue

I just got a new 64 GB iPod Touch.  I believe it's the most recent generation.  After setting it up as a new iPod and plugging it into my computer, the device doesn't show up on iTunes and an error message stating that I do not have the latest version of iTunes installed pops up.  I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes but when I plug in the iPod, I get the same exact message.  I have the latest version, 64-bit iTunes.  Why is this happening?

Do you have version 11 of iTunes?
    Did you try:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Connect to another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem.

  • New Ipod PLEASE help- skipping sings

This is what happens to me...I have tried the suggestions on the apple site but they don't work- I bought a new ipod bc this is what happened with my last one so I thought the ipod was the problem- but obviously it is something in itunes...Thanks so much for any suggestions!!!
Content you purchased from the iTunes Store won't play your on iPod. The content plays correctly in iTunes, and all non-purchased content (such as content imported from audio CD) plays normally on the iPod. The purchased songs' titles are visible on the iPod but appear to be skipped over without being played.

  • Brand New iPod classic won't turn on.

Minutes after getting home with my new iPod I plugged it into my computer and synced my library with it, afterwards it asked me to install an update and I let it, it told me it was going to reboot, it shut off and now it won't turn back on. I know there's some life in it as when I hold down the reset combo i hear windows indicate that I've disconnected and reconnected a USB device however nothing displays on the screen and iTunes tells me that it cannot recognize the iPod. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an additional note now when the I connect the iPod windows lists a "Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver" in device manager.

  • I just bought a new ipod touch and when i plug it into my Mac usb port nothing is happening I can get the computer to sync other ipod in the same port

I just bought a new ipod touch and when i plug it into my Mac usb port nothing is happening I can get the computer to sync other ipod in the same port

    Try:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
Do not omit the Additional Information paragraph.
Is the iPod that connects an iPod touch? If not that does not mean anything since iOS devices like iPod touch, iPhone and iPad use different drivers than other iPods.
