New Ipod, Big problems

I just got a new ipod shipped to me due to my other one overheating, I was wondering how do i install my ipod on my comp i am using Windows Xp Pro and ecerytime i plug in my ipod itunes doesnt read it. I lost the cd software that came with my original one wat should i do

Marco,
From the link Bryan provided, you need to download the updater, install to your computer, run the updater program, connect the iPod when prompted (not before), and format it for Windows use.
From your posts, it's not clear (at least to me) that you are doing this.

  • New ipod shuffle problems..

I recently recieved a brand new ipod shuffle (first generation) from school. I went through the steps to install the software, then plug in the ipod. I have tried it in both USB ports on my PC but itunes still will not recognize it. The amber light is blinking, which means it's being recognized as a disk. When I first plug it in my Kodak Easyshare Software pops up as if my digital camera has been connected.
I have tried the "5 R's" to no avail.
    Why isn't this shuffle working?

    Hi Guillermo,
In thinking about your problem, I am wondering if the issue is one of permissions.
Is the account on the old iMac that you use to synch-up both iPod shuffles the same account name and uid as you use to synch the iPod shuffles on the new eMac?
Check and compare a typical AAC file on the old and new machines (ie. one that transfers OK and one that doesn't play at all). Select the file and hit Command-I to get the info window popup on each machine. Select "Ownership and Permissions" in the info window. Compare the owner and the group names listed.
Then, bring up NetInfo in /Applications/Utilities on each machine and select "Users" in the middle window. That will show a list of Users on the given machine. On each machine, select the User indicated in the info window and compare the value in the UID line. Even though you may have created a User with the same name on each machine, the order you created them in will determine their UID value. So you could have "guillermo" on each machine, but with different UIDs. Since what matters on OSX and UNIX is the value of UID, if the UIDs are different, the accounts are considered different.
Post back what you find. We can use the info window to change permissions to existing files, and can write-up an Applescript code to fix the permissions in the files you transfer in the future, if (as it sounds) this is a process you do regularly.
Sorry I don't speak, or write, in Spanish. I certainly recognize the added difficulty in solving this iPod problem that tranlating English into Spanish presents.

  • New computer, old ipod, big problem

I used to have all my music on my old computer, but my old computer got damaged so i can not use it anymore. it is obsolete. I still have ALL my music on my ipod, but now I can't put it on the computer (or maybe I just don't know how??). I have purchased ALOT of music via iTUNES and I don't want to lose any of it. Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can load all the music on my iPOD onto my new computer? PLEASE!!

    Its easy....
Open up iTunes 7. Plug in your iPod. Once the iPod shows up in iTunes select "File" from the top menu. In the list select "Transfer purchases from iPod".
That should transfer all your purchased music from your iPod to iTunes. No software to download or purchase. This is a new feature in iTunes 7.
Then I would suggest backing up your music collection to disc or a spare hard drive for safe keeping.

  • New iPod and Problems with Podcasts

I just got a new 30gb iPod yesterday. I noticed when I was playing my podcasts this afternoon, that I couldn't play them all at once. They would play one at a time and then I would have to go back and chose from the podcast category. I have had a 15GB iPod and this did not happen.
    Anybody else have this problem?
    Thanks!

    2. To make the iPod play only one Podcast (and then stop) you need to put the iPod into shuffle songs mode. What happens (then) is: because Podcasts are set to skip on shuffle, when they are imported to iTunes, there will be no other Podcasts playable because they are all set to skip.
    That was the easy one.
    1. Are you changing the start and stop times of an episode in iTunes? Is it these new times that do not transfer to your iPod?
If I assume (for now) that you are changing these times in iTunes, don't forget that you need to do this before you sync the iPod to iTunes. If you already have the iPod connected, iTunes may activate the transfer of those Podcasts before you chnage the time settings.

  • New Computer, BIG Problems

I just bought a new computer. Loaded my iPod, loaded iTunes, and it won't work! Unexpected error occurs. I've tried every help I can find on the support page, including uninstall, deleting of folders, etc. Nothing seems to work.

  • New iPod Shuffle Problem

Hi guys, I guess this is not really a problem maybe i'm just being paranoid.
When i first plug in the shuffle and dock, itunes opens and i realize while i was setting up, a removable drive icon appears on my desktop with my name and a underscore after it, it was random since i didnt set my ipod to use it as a removable drive and the device name (my name with a underscore) was not what i set the shuffle to be. but after a little while the icon disappears and didnt appear again. is this normal? how did it come up with a random name? thanks guys!

    Name the iPod in iTunes.
You can enable/disable "disk use" in iTunes as well.
If it's enabled, the iPod should show up on your desktop.
I have found though, that even though I have disk use disabled, it occasionally shows up on my desktop.

  • New iPod nano -problem when sharing account with old ipod

my ipod nano disappears from itunes, yet is still connected, so I'm unable to import music. Anything I do import goes to the shared account. I can't update my nano and it's all very disappointing. what can I do?
    toshiba satellite laptop   Windows XP

Go through the Apple troubleshooting steps and see if that solves the problem. Find those here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano4gen/
Also, try charging it over night. Keep in mind that your computer has to be on for the iPod to charge while connected to the USB connection.

  • Berry 9360 - new and big problems...

    Hi
I recently got my new blackberry 9360, very excited about my new phone, only to find numerous problems with it.. I set up email, social networks, bbm and tried some new stuff, but a few days ago the phone was heating up after charging. I took it back o the service provider and the manager reset the lighting and the network to 2GB, but still found that the phone was getting really hot after charging it.  Also every time I updated the profile picture on bbm nobody else could see it... Has anyone else experienced these problems?

no problem! glad you're up and running again.

  • New Laptop - Big Problems

...or rather, prob not. I'm just being a bit useless.
My problem is this - I hope that you can help.
My old powerbook died a death a few weeks ago, but thankfully my music was stored on an external drive.
I've just invested in a new macbook air (woo!) and am trying to set up iTunes to recognise the external drive as the source of all my music files - rather than copying them to the laptop's hard drive.
I know I must be being bloody daft, there must be a simple way of doing this - but I just can't work it out.
    Please - can anyone help?

in iTunes, go preferences > advanced and disable +*copy files to ... when adding to library+*.
next, choose +add to library+ from the file menu and select the folder containing your media files.
when done, you might want to point +*iTunes media folder location+* to the external drive and re-enable the +*copy files to ... when adding to library+* option. that will ensure iTunes is putting any newly added content there.
be sure the external is mounted on your desktop before you launch iTunes from now on.

  • To format or not to format - New computer: big problem

I bought a new PC, installed IPod+ITunes but it prompts to format my IPod when I plug it in. Although I have all my music in my hard drive, ITunes did not load neither my playlists nor my ratings, so I need to synchronize to avoid losing that information. So, I´m stuck here as I guess that formatting my IPod will erase all data in it. Any suggestions, please??!!

    Thanx BD.
As an additional question to the masses: Any pet favorites for HD's? as regards reliability, speed, price? looking at 500GB.
I have an Acomdata I've been happy with, had a Maxtor fail..Thanx in adavnce to any and all input. Keep in mind this drive will travel a little, the two other external drives I've owned lived on my desk...It doesn't need to have a small form factor, just looking for reliability

  • New iTunes: Big Problems

I bit the bullet this week and downloaded Mountain Lion and the new iTunes. Mountain Lion was a piece of cake, but iTunes is causing me no end of problems; in fact I have been swearing at my computer for a couple of days in frustration. I'll detail my concerns:
    1. I use iTunes most days to compile playlists for a radio station. I burn the playlists to CD and copy the written info to a Pages document to use as a script. In the new iTunes I can no longer Command A, Command C and Command V to paste the data into Pages. It just won't do it. When I Select All and drag the data, it now drags the actual files into Pages rather than the data. To work around this issue, I had to copy each file to Pages individually which took about 15 mins instead of the usual 10 seconds. How is this an improvement?
How can I just copy the written data info into a document?
    2. I can no longer drag individual items from a play list into a new playlist or an existing playlist. Yes, I know this is a NEW iTunes but did they have to change everything? And for what reason?
For the first time in 12 years as an Apple customer, I have come across a product that doesn't make it in the intuitive stakes. This new model reminds me of a Windows product; nothing works logically.
Please tell me is isn't just me having these issues and if you can help with the above problems I would be very grateful.

When you get these error messages, you need to try using The Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility to clean up your installer files.
    Here is a method:
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • New iPod; serious problems, please try to help!

In iTunes it says my iPod is full but it is completely empty. It also won't let me restore my iPod so I tried deleting iTunes and re-downloading it but that didn't work either. Can help me??

Before we go on, I'm assuming you've tried a reset of the ipod using the centre and menu buttons?
If you've tried to restore and it failed, you could try to reformat the iPod from Windows, and then restore it from there?
In the My Computer window, right click on the drive and choose format, and perform a full (not "Quick") format to Fat32. From there, try and restore your iPod. Be aware, though, that the format will take a while, and there's no guarantees of success.
Hope i've been of some help.

  • Bought new ram BIG PROBLEM

i bought a 1GB stick of ram to replace my 512. it meets all the standards
    184pin
    400mhz
    pc3200
no more than 16 ram modules
    unbuffered
i put it in....ect.....turned it on, got a beep noise and that was it
    any ideas ?

I think it might be best to take your question along with the original one in the 'Apps closing themselves' thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=251471&tstart=0 simply because this does not sound like a 'normal' faulty RAM issue as being discussed here.
Generally speaking, faulty RAM will cause unpredictable crashes, usually of the entire system, sometimes by a kernel panic (where the screen goes grey and you see a message to restart the system in several languages). Thus, rather than risk you getting multiple responses that may become difficult to keep track of, I'd suggest focussing on the other thread where your problem and that of the OP sound very similar.

  • Old iTunes with new iPod

    Hi,
Here's my question. I have an older iPod from circa 2004. I want to get one of the new 'iPod videos'. If I do this can I use the new iPod with the iTunes that I have on my PC or is the iTunes only allowed to interface with the initial iPod that it was sync'd with.
    thanks guys,
    Dennis

You can use the new iPod without problems. Just make sure that all your tracks are in iTunes (i.e. you don't have any that are just on your old iPod and not in iTunes) and when you connect the new iPod, you'll be stepped through getting it set up, just as when you first connected your old iPod.
If you plan to use both iPods with the same iTunes library, take a look here:
How to use multiple iPods with one computer
    Regards.
