New Ipod Classic-how do I install ITunes to External HD

I now have a 160 GB classic to upgrade from a full to capacity 30GB Fifth Gen. I have purchased a 1TB External HD (Seagate)to run ITunes to save space on the home PC. Please could someone guide me through the installation of ITunes straight to the new HD. I've just tried to download ITunes and the application has frozen. Also my existing ITunes library ( held on laptop) does not include all my existing Ipod items - is there a painless way to get my music tranferred from my old Ipod to my new one? I'm sure there is a straightforward solution - I just can't see it at the moment. Thank you in anticipation.

Hello rajrishi,
Simply connect the iPod to your computer and iTunes library, set it up to sync how you so desire, and then sync away.  Nothing else to it.
There is no limit to the number oif iPods you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account.

  • New iPod Classic 2.0.2 and iTunes 8.2.1 (6)

Just bought a new iPod Classic 160 GB with the 2.0.2 firmware (or software?).
I'm using iTunes 8.2.1 (6) after reverting back from iTunes 9 because I couldn't sync my mp3 player with iTunes 9 - they were incompatible.
When I attach my new iPod to my G5, I get this message:
+"The iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 9.0 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."+
But I don't want to use iTunes 9 because I won't be able to use my other mp3 player.
    Question:
Is there any possible way to use my new iPod with iTunes 8? Is there a work-around?
    Thanks for your help!

Yeah. I found that out experimenting a bit. Thanks.
How about this: Can I format the new iPod and install an old software version that's compatible with iTunes 8?
I read somewhere that I could format the iPod using Disk Utility, then restore it. The tutorial stated to upgrade iTunes first, but what if I didn't? What if I restored the formatted iPod with iTunes 8?
    Would that work?

  • New ipod classic won't  sync with itunes on windows 8

I transferred my itunes library (via an external hard drive) from laptop windows xp to new laptop windows 8. I am now unable to sync my new ipod classic 160gb. I have also tried my old ipod classic 80gb but it won't sync either.

  • New Ipod Classic How to update to new Itunes with older Mac

I have replaced Ipod Classic today, old one died. I have my library on Mac. New IPod needs itunes update and Mac OSX 10.5.8 can not support latest update. Classic needs update 9 or later.  How do I download an earlier Itunes to use new IPod?

That iPod classic requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer. Mac OS X 10.6 DVDs are available on the online Apple Store; they require an Intel Mac with at least 1GB of RAM.

  • Brand new ipod classic won't sync to itunes 11.

I just got a brand new 160gb ipod classic for Christmas, and when I tried to sync it with itunes it wouldn't work. I ran the diagnostics and it failed the sync tests, and apple's help/troubleshooting page does not give any solutions to this problem. I have the latest version of iTunes and my computer is a Windows XP. What do I have to do so I can sync my ipod?

I posted as other have that there is something wrong in iTunes going on with the syncing of these classics. First my wifes stopped being recognized in the diagnostics. It says there is no phone, ipod or ipad attached, but iTunes shows its attached. then I called my daught up and had her check her iTunes version and she is also at the latest version online. I asked her how long has it been since she knows she has synced her music...she said a week or so.
I asked her to download any podcast or free music and try to sync. Her Classic 160 did the exact same thing 200 miles apart. Both iPods previously worked with no problems for years. Now neither is detecable in the iTunes diagnostocs. I unloaded and reinstalled a clean iTunes on my wifes win 7 x64 laptop that she has used since the ipod was new (years). No good.
I know Apple is going to find a problem either with the mobile service or something else that is going to be the cause of this syncing or not syncing issue.

  • Brand new iPod Classic will not sync with iTunes.  All my older devices are fine, but as soon as this is connected, iTunes stops responding when it says it's "determining tracks to sync."

Also, the iMac I'm connecting it to is brand new as well - replacing a slightly older one.  My complete library got imported during setup and, like I mentioned, my older iPod classic synced fine, as did our iPhones.  Thoughts??

Is the Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?  If so disable this feature and then try resyncing the device.

  • New ipod classic not always recognised by itunes

I have to take the lead out which is probably causing damage as itunes isnt recognising my new 120GB classic all of the time.
Anyone else with the 120GB experiencing this?

Well, if the iPod is frozen it won't be recognized by iTunes. At the same time, if it's frozen, it's probably okay to be disconnecting it, as it can't communicate with your computer at the time. Odd though, that it freezes as it connects to the computer. Have you been able to reset the iPod (hold Menu and Select until you see an Apple logo) when this happens? You might try restoring the iPod in iTunes if you haven't already.

  • New ipod classic , how do i get movies on it

Hi there, i recently got myself a new 80gb classic and i'm trying to get movies onto it but itunes only recognises about 3 of my movies ( they are all paid for and legit) it says these are in the wrong format as well. Does anyone know any way i could convert them to the required mpeg4 format or recommend a good free converting program.
    Thanks in advance
    John

    Hey there
Should have read the terms and conditions properly, at the moment i'm looking at movies already on my hard drive , i got a free digital download of i am legend when i purchased the special edition dvd so thats already legal and paid for and the other movies are personal ones off my camcorder (handy for showing those holiday videos to relatives) i have absolutely zero experience in doing stuff like this so any help you could throw my way would be great.
    Kind Regards

  • I just got a new laptop.  How do I install iTunes and set it up so that I can still store my 80 gigs of music on my external hard drive?

I would also like to set it up so that if I unplug my external hard drive and take my laptop somewhere else, I can still have access to iTunes on said laptop.  I realize that I wouldn't have access to the music that is on my external hd but I can still access the music that I have purchased from iTunes, right?

If your external drive has the right ports, you should be able to plug it up to your Mac and copy over your photos and wav files. You'll probably (I don't know this for sure as it's been a long, long time since I've dealt with wav files) need to convert the wav files to MP3 or some other format (but I would try opening them directly from iTunes, first - wait a second... yes, iTunes will open wav files).
There are only a fixed number of ways that Windows drive can be formatted and a Mac can read (though not necessarily write) them all. So you should have no trouble with that.
    Good luck,

  • How can I get films purchased from the iTunes store to work on my new iPod classic?

I have recently purchased a new iPod classic, everything works accept it will not play films. At first I thought it was a problem with the films I was trying to put on as they were from my computer; but after purchasing some films from iTunes it still keeps saying that they cannot be played on this device. Please help as I have spent money on films I otherwise cannot watch.
    Any advice is welcome.

    Hey Shelly29,
It sounds like you might be trying to sync HD videos to your iPod classic.
HD videos purchased from the iTunes Store are compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), Apple TV, and computers. You may need to download your purchased video from iTunes in the Cloud in a lower resolution for your device.
You'll want to check out the following article to resolve the issue, specifically the "Download previously purchased content in a lower resolution" section:

  • Ipod Classic No Longer Synchs after Itunes Moved to New Computer

I successfully restored my itunes from old computer to external hard drive to new computer.  Then I tried to sync iPod Classic 80 GB, but was told I couldn't synch it to new computer.  So I restored Ipod to factory settings and tried synching again.  It put on just a handful of songs I never heard of.  Meanwhile my 10,000 or so songs iin iTunes on my computer did not make it to my iPod.  How to get the itunes over to my now freshly restored iPod?

Please be patient, sync issues are time consuming, if you are lucky, just a Hard Rest and Restore will solved it.
    Ok Software Version 1.1.2.
So you can see all your 10,000 songs, in the new PC iTunes, and do you have any problem syncing the iPod using iTunes 10.5.3.3 on the old computer?
Can you do a Hard Reset  as below
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs

On your iTunes please reset alert warnings, so that we can see the errors.

Then connect your iPod to the new PC and sync again.

  • How do I install iTunes on my iPod?

I just bought a new 5th Gen iPod (80 gig, Black model). It doesn't come with an install cd. I hook it up to an iMac at school that already has itunes installed. The iPod appears on the desk top, but not in iTunes, and I get a dialog box that says the iPod "iPod" can not be used because it requires iTunes 7.0 or later .
When going through the iTunes install the select destination dialog box, if I select the iPod it says that I can't install iTunes on this volume. This software may only be installed onto the start up volume. I can't install it on the computer because of it needs an administrator's name and password but I can't get it since this is a university.
I've reset the iPod, and set itto disk mode. So how do I install iTunes on my iPod?

Jeff, he was refering to the school computer, in which he does not had admin rights. Then he said his OWN computer.
If you were able to install itunes, I don't understand how or why you can't get the correct itunes version. If you said you went to the apple website and downloaded it, it should be the current version, here it is again anyway:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
once installed, you can plug in the iPod and it should work now.

  • Just got a new iPod Classic and can only sync 536 songs of the almost 8,000 that I have stored in the cloud. How can I download all my music to the new iPod Classic?

Does anyone have an idea how to transfer music stored in the cloud to a new iPod classic?

You must download it to your iTunes library first, before syncing the iPod classic.

  • HELP! New iPod Classic 80GB Recognized By Computer, Not iTunes

I have a brand new ipod classic, and it refuses to be recognized by itunes so i can install it. The "install new hardware" wizard pops up instead and it thinks it is a USB Mass Storage Device. I've tried everything on the apple support page.
PS I am aware that this sort of question probably has been answered before. I am new to this board haven't found the information i need. thanks for the help!

    Hi,
I'd been really frustrated with ITunes not recognizing my IPod after failed attempts at using the "5Rs" to resove the issue. I just wanted you guys to know that I found a resolution posted under http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1372 and after following the instructions, I "forced" ITunes to recognize the Pod and it is right now, as we speak, syncing my entire library back to the IPod! THANK YOU to whomever posted this solution! I was so lost without my IPod and was about to go on a trip without it! Whew! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Windows XP sp3 + iTunes 8 + New iPod Classic 120GB = Blue Screen Of Death

    HELP
My PC has just upgraded itself with Windows XP Service Pack 3, I have downloaded iTunes 8, and just today bought a new iPod Classic 120GB so I could enjoy the new Genius facility (my old iPod was a 20GB model from 2005). However I keep getting the Blue Screen Of Death whenever I plug in the new iPod, even if I start-up the computer with the iPod connected.
I've read other threads about this topic, but I've only seen people reporting this issue with Vista, not XP.
    - I'm thinking of uninstalling and re-downloading iTunes 8. Will it retain all playlists, album artwork etc.?
    - I'm also thinking of trying to connect with the iPod manually set to disk mode. Will this help to begin with?
Anyone got a fix for this problem yet....Apple?

As a follow-up to my questions above, I've now tried uninstalling and then re-installing iTunes 8 direct from the Download link at Apple.com. I still get the BSOD. I also tried with the new iPod 120GB manually set to disk mode. Again, still I get the BSOD. I also unplugged a couple of other USB peripherals from my PC (writing tablet, card reader), checked for any more Windows XP Updates, but still get the BSOD.
    Anyone got any more ideas?
