New Ipod - Connecting, then Automatically, uncontrollably disconnecting.

Hello I just got a new 160gb black classic Ipod (just today infact) and I plug it in. It connects...and then immediately disconnects. I just connect, and it disconnects. Both my parents have 2gb Ipod Nanos so I have the newest Itunes, but I have no idea what to do. The computer registers it for a few seconds as a G Drive with 0 byte space and then disconnects. I reset it 5 times in a row and all I got was "Ipod device cannot be recognized" or whatever problem that is. Advice please? I leave for a Month-long trip to Europe in a few days and I got this Ipod specifically for this reason.
Thanks

Hmm, I have my 80 gig classic for more than a half year, and I hadn't encountered this problem so far, but today I encountered it, thus afterward stumbling upon this tread. I copied a file in my iPod which I had to have on another PC, but the iPod wouldn't properly connect with the other PC. When i connected it, the new device connected chime sounded and half a second later - the device disconnected sound. The iPod showed connecting, then ejecting, and the battery indicator was acting a bit weirdly. I tried a few more times with the same results. I was a bit concerned with this, even more so after reading your problem, but when I got home, my computer and the iPod connected as usually, no problems at all. The funny thing, though, is that I had connected the iPod to the other computer several times before without any problems. Oh and my computer has Win Wista, and the other had Win XP. I hope that maybe someone other more experienced can get some hints from this.

  • If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • Ipod connects then disconnects automatically.

Hi. I have a 160gb iPod Classic. I have had it for 9 months without any problems. But now when i connect it to my pc it connects for 3-6 seconds then automatically disconnects itself.
I have tried multiple cables, that is not the problem
I have tried multiple USB slots,
I have tried it on different computers
    I have resotred the iPod
I have a mac and have tried connecting it to this but the same issue occurs.
I have seen a few posts about this before but no one ever really seems to be able to offer a possible solution apart from try a different usb port or cable. I have tried everything thus far but all in vain. It did get recongnised by my mac once and i managed to reformat it but then the same issue occurred. Then the same happened when i connected it to my PC after about 20 attempts.
Any other suggestions would be appreiated or it is off to apple care for it.
    Thanks
    Gary

I am have the same problem. I am using me i Mac, I plug in my i Pod and it says syncing for about 3 seconds and then say sync complete than about 30 seconds later it starts over again, and I never have any music on my i Pod.
I have tried different cables. I hook it up to 2 different computers, one mac pro and one dell, and it will work fine, but will not with my i mac. I have restored my i pod, unloaded and reinstalled the latest version of i tunes. it is acting like it is being turned on and off. I am also running parallels 5 with windows xp on it and when I hook up a web cam while in xp, not using built in cam, it will turn on and off conatantly, wondering if Parallels 5 might be interfiering with the program.

  • My iPod connects then ejects itself

Hello, i've been having this problem for 6 months now...
It's really annoyng and it's startint to drive me nuts...
My iPod classic connects then ejects itself automatically,
i've already tried to put it on disk mode but it ejects itself first and when i suceed, it keeps ejecting itself,
iTunes doesn't even show the iPod sync window and i've already tried a lot of solutions, none of them seems to work.
I've visited various forums, but still, no solution until now...
I even bought a new iPod classic and still, it doesn't sync, i have no f*cking clue about why that happens and
i'm starting to go nuts cause they are useless because i can't simply f*cking sync them with my f*cking computer...
    Sorry, i'm really raging now...

Try enabling the iPod for disk use, this will keep it mounted after it has finished syncing. Connect your iPod and when it appears itunes click on it's icon to bring up the Summary tab in the main pane. Check the box "enable disk use" and click Apply to save the setting.
Something to remember about using an iPod enabled for disk use is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • New iPod connectivity

I just bought the new iPod video, and it doesn't support Firewire anymore. I have a G3 iBook, that of course only has USB 1.1. I also understand that one cannot 'upgrade' the USB ports, but is there an alternative connection so that I can use firewire?

Hi, Tim. About a third of the way down this page from Macintouch there is a discussion about this very issue, and some suggestions for powerbooks without 2.0. Maybe one will work on your iBook, but I couldn't find any specific reference that said it would, and looking in the iPod discussion board, there wasn't any encouraging news there, either.

  • Ipod Connecting then Disconnecting 2 seconds later

Please help, my ipod is connecting to the computer, not showng in itunes and then disconnecting 2 seconds later, ive tried rrestarting and different usb ports and different wires but still no luck!
    Please,

Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?
My iMac's disk crashed also a couple of months ago and I'm still recovering. I have four Apple devices, two of them have failed. Can Apple afford such a ratio?

  • I just got a 3g iphone from a friend and i went to connect it to my wifi, i entered the code, and it connected then it suddenly disconnected then reconnected and so on. the past person had it jailbroken , so should i restore?

    please help me

Probably best to restore to new, but may be worth checking with your friend if it is locked to a carrier.  If you restore it and it is locked you will only be able to use a sim from that carrier.

  • My iphone is frozen on the apple logo. I was downloading the new itunes but then the cable disconnected and now it has an apple logo and the download line. It's been like this for the whole day and none of the buttons work. Help?

    A bit of help please?

Try a force restart by holding the power and home button down at the same time. One of two things will PROBABLY happen; 1) It will boot into iOS as normal. 2) You will get an iTunes logo with a USB cable at the bottom. If the second happens you will need to plug it into iTunes to do a restore. If neither of these happen, force restart again. Once the phone powers off, let go of both buttons and push and hold the home button and plug the phone into iTunes. This will force the phone into recovery mode. Proceed with a restore at that point.

  • New iPod, won't connect

I installed all the software for the new iPod video, then connected the iPod. Then I realized I hadn't hit "restart" first. I disconnected my iPod, which had loaded on two songs, then restart my computer. Now when I connect my 'pod, it flashes the "do not disconnect" method, but iTunes doesn't seem to pick up that it's there. Any help?
    Thanks in advance.

edited: You already fixed your first issue...
    For your second problem:
You have the most recent version of iTunes installed and did you install the full cd that came with your pod? How are you moving the files onto your iPod?

  • Connecting a new ipod to my computer- Getting error message

Hope someone can help me with this one...I am trying to download music from my computer to my new ipod (have another one too) and am getting the following error message:
"The IPOD "SHABNAMS" can not be used because it requires itunes Version 7.0 or later. Go to itunes.com to download the latest version of itunes or install itunes from the cd that came with your ipod."
I have version 7.0 downloaded already and was even able to sync the ipod with my laptop, but I keep getting the message above with my desktop computer.
Any ideas onw hat to do?
    Thanks!

    1. Is there anything I need to do before I connect this new iPod to my iBook and do an update?
    No. Simply plug it in.
    2. Will my iTunes library freakout if it sees a new iPod connected?
No. It will ask if you want to link the iTunes Library to this new iPod. Just say Yes.
    3. Will I be able to name this iPod anything I want and not create a conflict when I plug my own iPod later?[/b
    Yes, no problem.
    4. Would I be better off creating a new user in my PB, then connect/update the new iPod?
Not if you are only gonna connect the iPod one or two times.

  • IPod immediately and automatically ejects when connected

This is driving me crazy! Every time I connect my Ipod Classic (160GB) to the USB port on my Windows 7 (64 bit) PC, it connects and then immediately ejects itself again. How can I stop it doing this? The consequence is that I can never see the Ipod in Windows or iTunes to do anything with it. All of the support instructions just have me going round in circles because they tell me to restore the ipod. However to do that you need to see it in itunes...except that I can't see it in itunes!

    BUMP
exactly the the same my ipod connects then disconnects tried everything reinstalled operating system xp now have installed win7 still nothing.5r's nothing ,thing is my ipod works fine on other computers, works and sync's ! used to connect before itunes 9crap.
o yeah i also done support and email thing Nothing !

  • Share screen connects, then disconnects

I have a stumper. My screen share with my parents connects, then freezes and disconnects after 10 seconds of "innactivity"
I can see the screen, so it doesn't seem likely it's a firewall issue. Thoughts?

    Hi,
Error 20 "No Data for 10 secs" is a message that iChat gives when the connection is lost other than iChat saying "Bye" properly.
The most common of these are things in the Router or modem software that is designed to stop Internet Attacks.
Denial Of Service (DoS) if you have it is threshold based.
When "Too much data comes Too Quickly" it cuts the one port that this happens on.
With modern Internet Speeds and the amount of Video Data iChat can send you can "bump" into this and it will cut the Chat and give you the 10 Secs Error message.
A related Filter for use of a better word is Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI)
This tries to judge if the data is valid.
In Video chats it can get overwhelmed (in a simplistic view) but it cuts that one Data stream to the same Effect in iChat.
I had not heard of the last of these two being an issue for Screen Sharing but they both would be worth checking out and Disabling.
A reason for not even getting Error 20 (You get Error 8 instead) is if the port for the Screen Sharing part is not open.
A iChat Screen Sharing takes two ports - One for the Audio chat that goes with on port 16402 and a random port for the Screen Share itself.
If your Modem if it routes or you router is using UPnP to allow the ports iChat needs then there should be no problem
Port Forwarding the ports in the routing device can be an issue as the Screen Sharing port is random and not likely to be open.
I don't think from your description that this is the case for you but it would be helpful to exclude it.
Of course the issue may be on the other end and their Error log code would give clues.
