New iPod, Don't want synching problems

Wanted to ask this question before problems arise....
I'm waiting on delivery of my new 80GB 5th generation iPod to replace the old one (60 GB iPod) that died.
I have heard about synching problems that happen when more than one iPod are connected to a single account. What precautions can I take to get all the music and audio books from one iPod to another?
Thanks in advance,
Sue in Sunny California

Not sure where you heard this but many people use multiple iPod with a single computer. As you can see from this guide, it's well supported: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

You just need to connect your new iPod. If the songs etc. you had on your previous iPod are still in iTunes they will load onto your new one. Follow the onscreen instructions to register and name your iPod, when that is done you'll be asked if you want it to update automatically from iTunes, choose yes if you do. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like

To restore app data, the apps have to be in the iTunes library of the computer on which you do the restore. The iPod ackup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

Without even knowing if Apple's DRM would permit this, if you are in the U.S. then that's copyright infringement.

  • My new Ipod classic will only synch purchased music from my Windows 8,1 computer

My Ipad and an older Ipod synch the entire library, but the  new Ipod classic won't see anything but music purchased from the Itunes store. I have used both the entire library option and the manual option, but neither will see anything but the purchased music. Please help!!!

I had something similar occur when I purchased a new I-Pod. Sync did everything except vids I had downloaded from YouTube.( These are placed in films/home films.)
Apple support rang me after about 30 secs and talked me through how to sync these and done within 5 mins. All vids now synced on my I-Pod.

  • New computer - don't want to lose my songs

Hey, this is irritating me a LOT, my parents recently got a new family computer (I'm a 15 year old kid) and I plugged in my iPod and it doesn't show my songs up (I had more than 200) and it tells me that I have to sync my iPod. Now I know 200 songs isn't a lot to put on again but I really don't want to do all that, and if there's anyway I can get the songs on the screen (infuriating since its on the screen of my iPod but I just can't get it on the computer lol) and just keep using my old music collection I would love to hear it. Thanks for reading.

Connect your iPod and when you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Brand new ipod touch 5th gen 64gb problems with first power on

I have just received a brand new ipod touch 5th gen 64 gb from amazon. After reading the instructions i tried to power it on but nothing happened.
It was suggested on here to try the recovery start but again, nothing happened.
I then plugged the device in to a wall socket charger to see if the battery is flat, but the apple logo comes on for about 15 seconds then goes off again. If I hold down the home button while the apple logo is off, after a while the ipod goes into recovery start up, but as soon as i unplug it from the wall socket adaptor it turns off.
It will not do anything plugged into the usb soccket of my laptop.
Any ideas or will I have to return this to amazon?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. You can go to an Apple store even if yo purchased it from Amazon

  • New Ipod Nano 7 not synching to iTunes MacBook air

Help!  I bought a new Ipod Nano generation 7 which I cannot synch to ITunes (11.2.1(1)) using my MacBook Air, OS X 10.7.5.  I have iTunes Match.
I read through the boards and tried everything:
    - using a different USB port
    - reseting the iPod
    - Updating Itunes
    - ensuring synch is checked under music
    - trying to synch with just one song checked
    - yelling at the iPod and then crying myself to sleep
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks!

    I have this question too

  • New Mac - Don't want Mail auto downloading all my old emails.

I am getting a new Mac and from previous experience, once you open Mail it automatically downloads all the old emails situated on your ISP's mail server.
As I have got these emails saved on my present computer I don't want all 1,500 of them downloading to my new Mac.
I could prevent it by deleting the emails on my ISP's mail server but I want to keep them there as an independent  backup.
Is there any way I can configure Mail to ensure that it only downloads new emails and not the old ones?

I've been mulling this over overnight and wanted to follow up.
The only thing I can think of is if your email is set up using the older POP technology, you could do this one of two ways:
1/ migrate your mail across, then from within the mail app, delete whats there (ensure your delete from server settings are switched to off - if only for this section).  This will tell the server that you've already downloaded the existing mail and it ill only download new emails.  IMPORTANT: this will only work for a POP Account.
2/ Again, POP only but you could alternatively redownload all the mail, and perform the #1 steps.
As for IMAP accounts, these by nature Sync with the server, so I think you're firmly out of luck.

  • New ipod 60 gig with video problem

I've converted several of my dvd's to watch on my brand new 60 gig ipod and using itunes placed them properly into my ipod. Each one plays for about 30 seconds, then stops, then resumes but with no sound. I have seen other posts related to version 1.0, but my new ipod came with 1.1 already installed. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem. Is Apple working on a fix for this "known" problem that seem to just affect the 60 gig video ipod? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks...

The fix has been out for several months.
iPods with software version 1.1.1 or later no longer experience this problem.
