New iPod, factory installed CD player, NO MUSIC!!

I just bought a new iPod 80 GB for my father for Christmas. I've run into a major problem though...His car does not have a tape player, and the cigarette lighter is broken...So my only options that I've found out about so far are to get the iPod professionally installed for alotta money, or just buy a $20 FM transmitter, which I hear is not a good idea. I hear they don't work very well when you travel, which he does a lot of, because you have to fumble with switching the radio station while driving. UGH! Please give me another option!!

a fm transmitter is not that bad, We travel between the United States and Mexico a couple times a year, it is a 1800 mile trip for us and we use an fm transmitter. It works fairly well. We do not have to switch it often, sometimes in very large cities during the day, but that is rare. The sound is good, and really have no major complaints. That being said, my daughter had her car wired for an ipod and it sounds great, much better then her tape adapter did. So I guess, the best would be to have it installed, then a tape adapter, then the fm transmitter. but maybe your father will be so happy with his gift that he will kick for the proff installation. Hope this helps and great gift, I will send you my kids number and see if you can talk them into giving their father an 80 gig.

  • HT4859 why when i installed my new ipod with icloud did all my music go off my itunes?

I Previously bought a new iPod and I installed it on my iTunes with iCloud but when I recently went onto iTunes most of my music has gone but it's all ok on my iPod because of iCloud, how do I transfer it all onto my iTunes again? Thanks

If you are using iTunes Match, your music should already be in your iTunes library.  If you aren't, you can transfer music purchased from the iTunes store from your iPod to your iTunes library by first authorizing your computer for all Apple IDs used to purchase the music in Store>Authorize This Computer, then connecting the iPod to your computer and in iTunes going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
If you no longer have the old iPod, you'll have to redownload your previoulsy purchased music from the iTunes store, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.

  • How do I get a new iPod Touch to have the same music setup as my old one?

I have all the songs on my ipod touch in my itunes library, but there are also a lot of other songs I don't want, so I can't just sync the new ipod. I could drag them all individually but that would take hours.
I was thinking I could get an ipod-to-itunes music program, and then just do my whole ipod, then transfer all of those songs to my new ipod, then delete the songs I had imported to itunes. But that's expensive.

The post by Zevoneer will offer some suggestions on how to do this:

  • I just bought a new ipod shuffle, how can i transfer music from my old ipod onto the new one

How do I transfer from my old ipod to my new ipod

You can't transfer it directly.  If the old iPod is set to sync to your iTunes library on the computer, everything on the iPod is in your iTunes library.  Just set up the shuffle to sync from your iTunes library as desired.
If the old iPod is set to Manually manage music, AND there are songs on the iPod that are not in your current iTunes library, please post back.

  • Brand new iPod Touch 4g won't sync music from iTunes?

Every time I plug my iPod into my laptop to add more music I get an error saying iTunes cannot read the contents and I need to restore it. Last week I got a new white iPod Touch 8gb 4g. I had the same problem with my last iPod and when I bought the new one I was hoping I wouldn't anymore but I do. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, restarting my computer, hard rebooting my iPod, turning my iPod off and on, deleting old backups, etc. But still it won't sync correctly. Sometimes it will start the sync, but rush through all the steps without actually syncing anything. So I try to sync again and again to see if it will add anything but it just rushes through all the steps without doing anything. And eventually I get the message saying it cannot be read and needs to be restored. I'm using windows, and my iPod as well as iTunes are both up to date. And I have plenty of space left on my iPod. I've even checked for viruses/threats but there are none on my computer. Even to add one new song I have to restore first. Even though it's a brand new iPod. Any ideas why it won't sync or why iTunes cannot read the contents??? I've been having this problem for awhile. A couple months. With my old iPod and my new one.

My understnding is that this may be a Windows related problem or sometimes USB problem.   I have the same issue and I know how to correct it, BUT ( and this is a BIG BUT) ... it will happen again and each time it does you will have to fully restore your I-Pod.  Here is my post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18645554#18645554 discussing a potential one time fix, but the problem happens the next time you plug in the I-Pod Touch 4G.

You need to have those as they are the license to use the music you RIP'd from them.

  • I need to find out how to transfer all the music from my old IPOD to my new IPOD.  Not all of my music was purchased on ITUNES.

I need to find out how to transfer all my music from my original IPOD nano to my new IPOD nano.   I want to keep both and not all of my music was purchased on ITUNES.  Please help!

Your music should be in your iTunes library, that is how it gets synced to the iPod. If that music is not present in the iTunes library, you will need to get a 3rd party software for the computer to get the music off the original iPod and then move it to the iTunes library to be able to sync it to the new iPod. You can see some additional information in this tip supplied by a fellow user. Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • New ipod - "cannot install this hardware" and "access is denied"

Over the weekend I got a new iPod Video. Previously I had an iPod Photo. This new one plugged in just fine on my two computers at home but will not install to my work computer.
It will work as I can play and transfer files through iTunes, but everytime I plug it in I get USB errors:
"Windows cannot install this hardware - access is denied"
In the Device Manager it gives me a "Code 28"
Like I said, it does seem to work, I just want to make sure this isn't going to screw anything up when I plug in each day and get these errors.

iPods use the standard Windows USB mass storage drivers. it is possible for those to go walkabout on a PC. if that is what has happened to you, the techniques from this MarkJones post may be of some assistance:

  • New iPod will not redownload already purchased music

I have had to get a new iPod due to accidental damage on my last one.  The new one has successfully downloaded all my apps, but music is not downloading.  I can see all the previously purchased music on my iPod via purchased section on iTunes, i press the cloud/download button but my iPod is displaying 'unable to download at this time'.   I get the option to press done or retry, but neither of these do anything.  What causes this problem?  What else can try to get it all my music to download?

That message would indicate an Apple problem. I would just wait.

  • My new Ipod classic will only synch purchased music from my Windows 8,1 computer

My Ipad and an older Ipod synch the entire library, but the  new Ipod classic won't see anything but music purchased from the Itunes store. I have used both the entire library option and the manual option, but neither will see anything but the purchased music. Please help!!!

I had something similar occur when I purchased a new I-Pod. Sync did everything except vids I had downloaded from YouTube.( These are placed in films/home films.)
Apple support rang me after about 30 secs and talked me through how to sync these and done within 5 mins. All vids now synced on my I-Pod.

  • New iPod - games install

I purchased a new iPod and on setting it up I can't seem to install any of my prepurchased games onto it, why?

aaah, it would seem that when itunes said that it was copying them off of my ipod, it was in fact not copying them off of my ipod. now i have to locate the backups i made of them since itunes wont actually let you change the location of where games are saved to.
