New ipod has space taken up...

hello, i am new to this discussion site. i have an immediate question that i hope someone knows the answer to.
i have an ipod that is not new but i bought it as a demo from an apple store about two weeks ago. it is an ipod 60 GB. i don't know what generation it is, but it is not the one that plays videos. it has color and can show photos plus it is thicker than a typical 20 GB. 2005 is labeled on the back of it.
my question is why is that my new ipod that i bought two weeks ago, has 53.56 GB that are available? what happened to the other something 4.25 that were not accounted for? let my tell you all that i have only 2.19 GB used up. i have no photos on it. nothing but music on it. what heck happened to the rest of the 4.25 GB's? somebody please help me out!

It's not only Apple, any computer disk maker is going
to calculate disk space the same way, there will
always be about a 10% discrepancy between quoted disk
size & usable disk size. Another example: a 20GB
ipod has approximately 18.6GB usable space. I have
160GB LaCie external HD, the usable space was
something like 149GB, if I remember correctly.
so, that 60 GB's that are labled on the boxes of the ipods are just a scheme that the manufactures claim and end up getting away with? i am cheated out by the manufactures. i pay for the 60 but only get 53.7...

  • My new iPod has now crashed and is unusable after updating it. Don't update. I just lost the only good thing I have because of them pushing me into it.

My new iPod has been updated. I was pushed into it. So then I thought "it could use one it could improve it". I read as much as the terms and conditions as I could read that was understandable. And now it's been less then two days and my iPod is now practically useless. Don't update your iPod. It was the only good thing I had. I pleded and pleded to my parents for weeks and save up for weeks to get one. And now it's not even a year old and I've lost it. I can't afford to get a new one. And I can't afford to loose this one. i worked hard every day all day For months to be able to even get a quarter of what i needed. And my parents agreed to pay for the rest and it was my Christmas present. i was extremely happy. It's the best thing that I have and I've lost it because of an update Apple pushed me into. Now they won't help me.
my iPod is freezing every 5-10 minutes for long periods of time. It is:
    freezing
the keyboard board is lacking severely
    lags through out ipod
i cannot play games as it lags then freezes.
my screen is pressing where I don't press it.
    it becomes very excruciatingly slow
I Cannot write to fast or it freezes and i have to re start
Im not getting told when I have notifications (such as emails)
i cannot use facebook, games, Safari. Email, messenger and a few others with out my iPod crashing.
i Cannot use the iPod properly at all.
it can take up to 10 minutes for my camera to work. It usually takes 1 minute or more.
the camera freezes or wont take a photo when I press
it freezes on panorama or worn take panoramas.
it has trouble even trying to get the lock screen up.
and best of all of it. I can never tell when I'm going to be screwed by Apple.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • A new ipod has been detected but cannot be identified. [drivers?]

Yes -that again- the reason I'm making a new post is that this is the second time an ipod hasn't worked with me, I would like to know if there's something I can do to my system or whatever to repair it. Here's the situation.
    - Just so ya know, I use Vista on a laptop [unfortunatley]
    - Previously [as in yesterday] I had an ipod touch, it was stuck in recovery mode and nothing [and I mean nothing] worked to recover it, it wasn't being recognized at all. This problem occured when I installed Itunes 9.
    - Today I bought myself a brand new iPod Nano (5th Gen) for several reasons [not just to do with the itouch breaking, I was sick to death of the thing in general], took it home and connected it. 'A new ipod has been detected but cannot be identified' yadda yadda.
    - I tried everything, I have also downgraded my itunes back to 8, still the same message!! Argh! Here's the thing (that I think might be causing the problem) when I open Device Manager and go to Universal Serial Bus Controllers, there is no apple/ipod recognized. There is a 'USB Mass Storage Device' whch has an error symbol next to it, I've tired updating/reinstalling it etc and it doesn't work ):
    - Is there anything anyone can do? I'm so sick of ipods breaking on me. Just so you guys know, I'm not completley computer savvy so i'll need precise instructions, thanks so much to anyone who can help me.

This is how it's displayed: http://i50.tinypic.com/nd7vk7.jpg
And this is what happens when I click properties and 'search for solutions': http://i47.tinypic.com/2iu3vrc.jpg (the box disappears after that, apparently having done nothing, when I search online for software it informs me my computer already has the best/latest installed)
    I use a Toshiba Satelite L350-170, my Vista is a 32-bit Thankyou!

  • Itunes is stating that my ipod has space but when i sync it itunes says i need an additional 1.32GB

Check carefully. Perhaps you are trying to copy 9 GB plus 1.3 GB for a total of 10.3 GB. That would give you the message you see.

  • My new iPod has frozen!!!

I was happily listening to my music on my ipod and then it just stopped. I cant do anything with it. I cant switch it on, on, change music or anything.
Has anyone else had this problem!?
I am very annoyed with apple.
    thanks in anticipation

Yes, I had the very same problem within the first hour of buying the it, I was very ****** off indeed. try this:
flick the hold button to and from hold twice
Then quickly hold the middle select button AND the menu button at the same time for about 8-10 seconds.
give it a try and let me know how it goes.

  • New ipod has died

I bought my husband a new classic on Monday, charged it overnight and he started using it yesterday, everything worked great. Then he put it down for a couple of hours and now nothing at all, the screen is blank like its just come out of the box and when we plug it in to charge there is still nothing. Is it broken or are we missing something obvious?
    Any help greatfully received!

Try Resetting your iPod. Toggle the hold switch off and on a few times then hold down the MENU and SELECT (centre) buttons for five or ten seconds until you see the Apple logo appear then the menu button to go to the normal display: iPod won't turn on

  • I have 3 iPods on my iTunes account. Two of which are my daughters. I have purchased a new iPod touch for my daughter, and want to establish her own iTunes account WITHOUT having all of her music go away when we do this.

I multiple ipods (3 different users) on the same itunes account. All of the music is either from cd's or purchased from iTunes legally. A new iPod has been purchased, and I want to open a new iTunes account for the daughter so I can actually use iClound myself. How can I open a new account without losing all of the music that is tied to MY account, that is hers. I would like not to lose all of that music. Thanks

Content is permanently tied to the account that it was purchased with.
Simply plug the iDevice into the computer and sync the content you want.

  • Bought a new ipod nano and the computer won't recognize it

I just purchased a new ipod nano and have my itunes on Windows 8. I've connected it with the supplied cable to USB 2 and 3 and every time I receive a message a new ipod has been connected but it is not recognized by itunes.
How can I make this ipod work so I can set it up and start using it?

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • When in october will the new iPod touch be available for purchase?

Do you have any idea? rumors maybe?

The new iPod has just begun shipping to people that ordered them online directly from Apple. Expect another 2-3 weeks at least before stores have them.

  • New ipod wont turn on

I've just been given an new ipod nano 2g that was still in its box wrapped up. I've plugged it into my pc and downloaded some music. When it showed fully charged, I unplugged it and it switched itself off, but it wont turn back on, unless its either plugged into the pc or into the docking station. I've tried everything, resetting it, restoring the settings and nothing works. It looks like a battery problem, but how can this be if its brand new??

I am assuming while it was connected to your computer the computer did not go to sleep, as this can deplete the iPod battery.
You might try Restoring the Nano, Resyncing and Recharging and see if that works. If it does not, and this "new" iPod has been sitting around somewhere in the box for quite some time, the battery may have died as they need to be exercised. How long ago was this iPod purchased?

  • Brand new ipod nano will work when attached by cable either to a power adaptor or usb port but stops immediately when disconnected, despite being put on charge with different adaptors. Battery indicator remains constantly on lightning flas symbol and whit

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. When detached, it stops playing and screen goes dark and it will not respond to any buttons, despite being charged several times for many hours on different chargers. The battery indicator stays on lightning flash symbol on white background and has only momentarily shown fully charged symbol once !
I am baffled as to why this new ipod has a similar problem to the old ipod.
Is there a virus out there which can have this effect and which I may have picked up on my Pc and have inadvertently transferred to both ipods when sync-ing ?
My PC has Norton anti-virus software.
    Any suggestions , please ?

Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery.  You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.
